Having seen the reviews for the malasadas we needed to come and try these. It was a couple of hours to closing so I hoped they hadn't run out. When asked by the grumpy owner how many I wanted, I said two and she said, they don't sell two and pointed at a sign. I glanced quickly and said, I needed to buy a dozen? No is all she said. Okay, it's minimum of three. Told it would take 10 minutes which was fine since they are made to order. The place is a throwback to better days based on the design of the menu board. We arrived in Maui early and were starving and my friend found this place. I don't understand why anyone would want to eat here. The service is nothing special and the place was not very clean and since the door was left wide open, flies were everywhere. We ordered the french toast which was so dry and there was no flavor. The butter and syrup did not help so we didn't bother finishing it. The Loco Moco was bland and even with salt it was just okay. We kept having to swat the flies from getting in our food. Super sad to say... food was terrible. Our favorite place around the corner was packed so we decided to try this place. The French toast was made with thin white bread. Yuk. Over easy eggs were well made. Omelette was made with something resembling velveeta cheese.. awful. The bacon was good! So was the coffee... for me. My husband didn't like it. The utensils were plastic!!! I guess they haven't heard about single use plastic impacting our oceans and rivers. The owners (I assumed ) are wonderful and nice with pleasant service. Ambiance is outside dining (with paper and plastic) in a strip mall but anywhere in Maui is always better than anywhere not in Maui! All in all, we won't eat there again :( read more

I don't see how this place gets so many stars. The food was prepared ok but the portions were very small, they charge you for any extras, you will leave hungry. After ordering you have to get your own drinks, including coffee. We were going to enjoy our breakfast there, all the tables were dirty with food on the floor except one. So we sat there. Another bigger group came in after us, but the lady hadn't cleaned up anything so they chose to sit outside. The lady never even came and asked us how our food was. She made no effort to take care of the locals, so why would she take care of the tourists? Everything was served on paper plates, plastic forks, knives and paper cups. With so many great places to eat in Kihei, they should be stepping up their game and making it more attractive for customers. I definitely will not be returning for a meal there. read more

Nothing super fancy, just good comfort breakfast. 1) ($6.75) 5/5: Breakfast Sandwich (Corn Beef Hash, Egg, Cheese, with mayo, mustard, on Wheat): Added some extra flavoring to the corn beef, the sandwich is actually more like a soft, fluffy hamburger bun. Not dense at all. The egg is fully encrusted around the bun. 2) ($6.75) 3/5: Breakfast Sandwich (Portuguese Sausage, Egg, Cheese, with mayo, mustard, on Wheat): The only complaint is that the PS is cut into 3 slices the short way and placed in a triangular placement on the bun/sandwich. We did a run and our destination was this place :) placing the order was straight forward and the malasada was fresh to order. They also came in plastic brown bags that you can shake the sugar to make sure it's even mixing, pretty authentic haha We got 2 plain one and 1 creamed filled. They were piping hot and soft and good. The cream filled was my favorite as the cream was still hot and smooth. You do have to order a minimum of 3. These aren't like typical malasada, they are more like yeast donuts. Ten years ago, pregnant with my first, we tried Home Maid Cafe. We loved it. Ten years later, we came back with our children, ordered what we loved; French Toast, Loco Moco and Malasadas. The French Toast was so good. Not soggy and so fragrant. Their Loco Moco was the best. The sauce was tasty and not too salty. Even my daughter who's not a meat and rice eater ate the entire thing. This is a small no frills cafe that is run by the owners. The prices are reasonable. We came here for the loco moco. It was a large serving and the burger was tender and the rice was cooked perfectly. I had the shoyu chicken and it fell off the bone. The food is served in to go boxes.
