Unassuming place at a strip mall, but fantastic food! We stopped here for dinner on our way to the airport before flying back home, and I'm sorry I couldn't take my leftovers! I had the kalbi plate which was one lb of ribs on a bed of rice and a side of macaroni salad. We also got the kitchen Bento plate which was Spam musubi, tempura, teriyaki chicken and beef, and chicken katsu. PLENTY of food for the two and a half of us! There are only a few tables inside and if you're lucky to be seated, they'll take your order and serve you. Otherwise, order at the counter and hope to find a spot outside: first come, first served. We got there right around 530 on a Friday and got lucky, the place was packed before we knew it! I also didn't realize they were featured by Guy Fieri which might partly explain the crowds...though I suspect the delicious food and the fast and friendly service might have something to do with it too. Can't wait to come back!

Da Kitchen knows how to deliver variety. They offer several combo plates that are tempting. Last time, I had a hard time deciding between the Mixed Plate and the Bento Plate. Both options have a lot of food and I swear I planned to share it with my bestie. They both have teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, katsu chicken and rice & mac salad. The Mixed Plate comes with breaded mahi mahi. The Bento comes with Spam Musubi and shrimp tempura. I know that the shrimp comes from Costco, so I prefer the mahi. So I ordered the Mixed Plate and a Spam Musubi to go with it. It was ready as soon as we got there to pick it up. Every bit was delicious! We each got 2 meals out of this feast.

I don't think I've ever eaten as much rice as I have anywhere else. Each plate had rice and they even gave rice with their side dishes. Nonetheless, the food here was amazing. I tried eating as much rice as I could because it did pair well with both the loco moco and kalbi we got. The kalbi had this amazing char and the flavor was sweet and savory. A little pricey, but worth it on vacation. I never had loco moco, but it was definitely a great first experience. It was very saucy and the meat was cooked well. The egg makes it creamy. We also had the deep fried spam masubi and it was decent and not too heavy as an appetizer.

Stopped by on a weekend night for loco moco and they are busyyyy. The good thing is they have outdoor seating (but it's not full service). We ordered the loco moco, which was a hefty portion and decent tasting (but by no means the best loco moco we've had). We also ordered the fried spam musubi and we loved the concept! The crunchy breading was a great touch and you dip the whole thing in a sweet soy sauce glaze/sauce. Only complaint is the rice to spam ratio...there was way too much rice.

We were visiting Maui and always like to try the "Da Kitchen" chain places on the islands. This one is amazing. It seems consistently busy. The three of us ordered different dishes. My daughters eat gluten and dairy free. This place accommodates their dietary requirements. Staff is very friendly, Service is fast. It is a small place, but there are a handful of tables outside. Can't wait to try more dishes.

I stopped by here 2 days ago with my father for lunch. He had mentioned wanting some traditional Hawaiian food, so I fired up Yelp and found Da Kitchen. We headed over to the strip mall with Longs Drugs and had to circle a couple of times before spotting it tucked away in the corner. Da Kitchen has both indoor and outdoor seating, with indoor seating for dine in and outdoor seating more geared toward takeout. Inside they have surfboards on one wall and a giant chalkboard menu on the other. For lunch on this day both my dad and I went with a mixed plate. I had thought about ordering the deep fried musubi as well, but it would have been a lot of food and I was already getting plenty. The menu described the mixed plate as teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, chicken katsu, and breaded mahi. When it arrived, they were not kidding about the portion size. I started with the mahi since it was on top and really enjoyed it both plain and with the tartar sauce. The fish was hot and glistening and the breading was crispy with a nice flavor. Next I tried the teriyaki beef. The flavor was decent but I found it to be a bit dry. Somewhere along the way I also finished all of the mac salad, which had potato in it and a good overall flavor. After that I moved on to the chicken katsu, which was thin and crispy on the outside. The katsu sauce paired nicely with it. I did not finish everything and ended up saving the katsu, chicken teriyaki, and rice for later. The chicken teriyaki reheated well and broke apart easily with a nice sweet flavor, although the skin did get a bit rubbery which I will chalk up to it sitting in the fridge. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My dad said the mahi was his favorite fish he had on Maui, and I was impressed by the portion sizes. I would still like to go back and try that deep fried musubi.

I came all the way to Hawaii, and I wanted to try it all. That included Hawaiian food. Da Kitchen delivered. The staff were so nice and friendly. They helped me decide what to get. I learned that one "plate" is enough food for 3 people. We had leftovers for days. My husband ordered fried spam musubi. It certainly looked cool. I tried lau lau. I learned that I don't care for lau lau, but that's on me. I'm glad I tried it. He got something that had everything--all the meats. I tried his kahlua pork. Staff were so nice and excited to help us try local cuisine. While it might not be my thing, I recommend Da Kitchen if you want to try the local specialities while in town.

This place has the best food. I called and ordered to go the mixed plate and a musubi Said it would be ready in 10 min. This place is easy to find very close to Longs drugs with lots of parking close by. They have a few outside and inside tables. I was greeted as soon as I walked in my food was packed up and ready when I arrived. Everything was delicous. Was enough food for 2 to eat with leftovers. I'll be going back again soon.

Tucked away in a busy plaza, this classic Hawaiian plate meal joint is certainly busy even later into the night when I came. It's bustling inside, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to handle the crowd. However, service was definitely on the slower side and it could get confusing as they have a line each for dine-in orders and takeout orders. The staff were nice and accommodating, which helped make ordering straightforward. The food was decidedly ok. I went for the katsu and kalua combo, which for $24 is alright and can definitely feed 2-3 people. There's a healthy amount of carbs with a couple big rice scoops and a big mac scoop. The katsu chicken was a little dry and didn't have too much flavor to it. A lot of times I felt I was tasting more of the breading than the chicken itself. The kalua pork was a let down- it was very salty to the point of being overbearing, even when served with rice. I could not get myself to finish it, even though it was juicy and tender. The saltiness was more than what I expected, even after trying other pulled kalua pork on the island. Lastly, there was only one small katsu pork sauce cup. Given the portion size, a larger sauce cup would be a nice touch. Overall, it may not be for everyone, but if you're looking for good value and portions, this place is worth a try. However, it wasn't for me and it was just ok at the end.

Arrr, brah -- Captain 619 here, hangin' ten on the shores of Maui and cruisin' into Da Kitchen for grub! Me and me firstmate (the missus) shared a plate o' teriyaki chicken an' rice with a side o' mac salad, and we came back again -- twice, aye -- so ye know it's worth the voyage. The chicken be seasoned just right -- that teriyaki sauce slaps, salty-sweet like a sun-kissed wave. Would've loved a few pineapple slices to give it that true aloha tang, but still tasty as a treasure chest. The macaroni salad be creamy and solid, the perfect sidekick. Good spot, quick service, and a proper place to get yer teriyaki chicken fix. Yohoho and a plate o' rice -- five stars from this seadog-surfer.

3.5 stars Da Kitchen is tucked in the corner of a plaza and serves classic Hawaiian fare. It's a casual spot where you walk up to the counter and order. They don't allow you to sit inside until you're dining in but there are some tables outside. We ordered the deep fried musubi ($6.99), kalbi mix plate ($31), and katsu moco ($26.50). The deep fried musubi was different than what I'm used to but it was decent. I liked the dipping sauce but you could taste more of the deep fried part than the spam musubi part. I would've preferred the spam to be thicker to stand out a little more. The kalbi mix plate included both kalbi and chicken which were both really good. The katsu moco is their most popular and had a large patty but the inside was a little mushy. The chicken katsu was decent but could've used more sauce. Out of everything we ordered the kalbi mix plate was my favorite. I also tried some of the garlic noodles which were good. They had large portions but it was just okay.

DA Kitchen in Kihei is an absolute gem!!!From the moment we walked in, the service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming -- basically, they treat you better than your own family (sorry, Mom). The portions are great -- I'm pretty sure my plate had ambitions of its own. Every dish was bursting with flavor, cooked to perfection, and plated so beautifully it almost made me hesitate... almost... Hands down, DA Kitchen serves some of the best "packs" I've had in all of Maui. I came for the food, stayed for the deliciousness, and seriously considered moving in. If you're looking for amazing food, stellar service, and a place that makes your taste buds do the hula, this is it. Do yourself a huge favor: go now. Your hungry stomach will repeatedly thank you. - Jordan

Da Kitchen was so good we ended up going twice on our vacation. The Hawaiian platter with the kalua pork and pork laulau was amazing! Super flavorful and tasted like classic, homemade local food. Everything had that comforting, traditional vibe you hope for. The kalbi mix plate was also a win. Loved the variety with the short ribs, fried chicken, and tempura. Everything was cooked just right and super satisfying. Huge portions, great flavors, and just all-around solid food. Definitely a spot we'd go back to again.

Do we have to make reservations or is it walk in?

    No reservations needed

    Delivery?? Available at Maui schooner

No I don't think so. Everything tells me sit down or take out only.

Do they make fried saimin? I saw they had regular saimin with the soup but what about fried saimin?

I didn't see it on the menu, but they always have specials... Saimin is dine-in only.

No more Kahalui location? Is this Kihei location still an Express?

There is some indoor seating and a couple of tables outside. Very limited. Still great food at the new Kihei location

Is msg used in the food? I have a severe allergy and have to ask.

Only the staff would know. Call & ask the speak w the owner or manager

    Is there outdoor seating?

    no outdoor seating

Do they have any gluten free options?

Just went because a lot of the reviews claim many gluten free options. However, there are only two GF options - the Kalua Pork and the Laulau plate. There is no separate GF menu.

Is there a Happy Hour? If yes, what does it include?

No they don't have happy hour

What is current status of Da Kitchen In Kihei? Piko Cafe?

Da Kitchen has completely taken over the space. Not sure what happened to Piko Cafe..

What are the hours for the reopening on 12/10?

    Is this location closed?

    Nope

    Is a reservation required?

Can we make rsvp for 10 tonight Saturday any time ?

    What is ur hours?

Last I checked, it was 4pm to 8pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Is the last day for open 7/22?

Yes, unfortunately their last day is 7/22. Hopefully they'll reopen in the future!

Is Da Kitchen Cafe open on Christmas? Would love to stop by then.

They will be closed Christmas Day and New Years Day! There's a sign on the front door.

    Is there a kids menu?

Not that I'm aware, but plenty of kids go there with their parents so I'd suggest asking the servers. ALSO, the entrees are very large---plenty large to split with a child or between several children.

Is the Uber soft serve dairy free?

    I don't think so

What are some good vegetarian dishes? Would they sub the loco loco with a veggie patty (we don't mind if the gravy isn't strictly vegetarian)?

I was there yesterday and saw more vegetarian items on the board menu. If I remember it right, I think I saw an item called "tofu poke with quinoa". So be sure to look at it! I did see that they have taro burger on the regular table menu.

Walked in before 5:00pm with no reservation for a party of four. Well, that was a mistake. Despite idle wait staff and maybe only five occupied tables out of 20-30 total they made us wait for about a half hour. The reason was other people made reservations and were expected. When they finally sat our party the restaurant was still 2/3 empty. There was really no reason to keep us waiting that i could see. When you see someone in the party is disabled and using assistive devices you should be more accommodating. It kind of felt like we were being punished for not having a reservation. Also, expect a 3% service charge for the back of the house. Really, for the prices they charge for mahi fragments you could pay those people without a surcharge. Portions here are tiny. My mahi fragments were dry, over spiced and served with two unseasoned baby bok choi leaves and a slice of grilled tomato. For the price of almost $40.00. The beer was good and so was our server so they got one star for that. Otherwise, this place is touristy, overpriced and the maitre d' is slow on the uptake. Overall, there are plenty of great restaurants on Maui, recommend you try one of those.
