I would be willing to pay more for an inch of haupia and an inch of Ube. My kids did really like it however and the filling was perfect for them. Always check the app for deals like the large spaghetti is good for kids. I always like their plate lunches like Korean chicken and fried chicken. Zippy's is a casual Hawaiian fast food joint with multiple locations across multiple islands. This location is in Kahului near the airport which is where we grabbed some food at the end of our trip. We arrived and stood in line to order, but you can order ahead of time for pickup and grab your food from one of the lockers that keep it warm. It's also a bakery with pies and other desserts. You can also dine-in. We ordered the loco moco ($14.40), the chicken trio ($19.35), and the spam musubi ($3.85). Some of the dishes had a mini and regular size, but the chicken trio did not. For the loco moco, even the mini was a huge portion. It came with two burger patties, and although they didn't look the best, they tasted fine and the gravy was good. For the chicken trio, the Korean fried chicken was good, the chicken katsu had more outside coating and a thinner chicken layer, and the fried chicken had a crispy exterior and was juicy but a tad salty. The spam slice was on the thinner side and the rice was a little mushy. The food was comforting but compared to the other food on the island it's okay. And a host station seating diners in more comfortable booths and tables to the other side. I think some items are just slightly more expensive in the full service side? They have great breakfast all day I think, fried chicken, signature chili(like Nalley's canned only more "Zippy" with seasoning) , and plate lunch style offerings. Some people like their baked goods like malasadas and some cream puff types of things. This isn't the best version ever of these foods but a very reliable quality and portion size at very good prices for Hawai'i. Often more locals than us Haole tourists. Inside was pretty clean, but nothing special. We ordered online, and it was ready quickly. I also got the lilikoi drink, which was really good. When entertaining out of town family, this is a must go to place for good local service and food. With friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere, it's a great place for a relaxed dinner. Our one problem tonight was one of the orders we placed was wrong. A couple of yummy pancakes is not the same as a Belgian waffle, no matter how good. Zippy's is such a reliable local spot. Hubby got the Zip Pac Deluxe, and I got the Chicken Trio, which is perfect for when you can't decide between Korean chicken or chicken katsu. Why choose? Get both, plus a piece of their classic fried chicken. The last few times I've gotten the chicken katsu at Zippy's, I've been pleasantly surprised. The chicken was tender and the breading was crispy. Sometimes you go to a plate lunch place and the katsu is all skin and no meat, but not here. Everything came with the usual rice and mac salad, and it hit the spot. One note: normally we eat on the restaurant side, but this time the host seemed to be in a mood and wasn't very friendly. I know it's a chain, but you HAVE to visit Zippy's if you're in Maui. Their Loco Moco was the best that we've tried on the island (and we tried a lot). Loco Moco is a sort of "comfort food" that is a hamburger patty on top of a bed of white rice, topped with a fried egg and brown gravy. It's like a hug in a plate/bowl, so you have to get this if you're anywhere in Hawaii, at least once! We even loved it so much that we used TWO of our meals in Maui visiting Zippy's and having Loco Moco. The interior design of Zippy's is very classic, like a grandma's house almost, with beige walls, and cute Hawaiian themed paintings all over. I'm sure they have lots of other items aside from Loco Moco, but that was the one and only thing we got there, so I definitely recommend it! read more

Zippy's is a nostalgic place for my girlfriend in Hawaii. So we stopped for lunch after taking the Maui pineapple tour. Zippy's is often busy and our trip was no exception. But after about 20 minutes we were seated at a booth. Our server took drink orders and returned with the drinks to take our food orders. This was one of our favorite meals from our trip to Maui! Unpretentious, straight-forward, and solid. Reasonable prices, quick and friendly service (shoutout to Sarah, our waitress!). This beat some of the other more "popular" places in Kihei in our opinion. This is a must try if you're visiting Maui! This review is for a dinner time visit on June 25th (probably 6pm-ish). I've been to Zippy's before, but it was my first time at this location. Searched on Yelp to see if there was a Zippy's on Maui, and was surprised to see it only had 3.5 stars. I was like, "But why? Zippy's is so good!" When we got there, someone in our party greeted the hostess and told her our group size. She scoffed, "Well, I don't see a name!!" I thought to myself, "Ohhhh, that's why." Apparently you have to type in your name or else the hostess will let her pettiness out. Go get a massage or eat a Snickers or something. Jeebus. Rude hostess aside, our waitress was great. Sorry I didn't catch any names. Food was also great. Just like the Zippy's I'm used to. People saying this is Hawaii's version of Denny's or IHOP are doing Zippy's a bit of a disservice. It's a diner, yes, but the food quality is much better. Plenty of seating on a Thursday night. Parking lot had lots of spaces available too. I'm sure it's busier on the weekends. read more

Which I hope was true but our group of three decided to just go to the take out side and chose the dine in option. We came at around 9 am on a Sunday and waited a few minutes to be seated (it wasn't crowded but I assume they had limited staff to tend to all the tables). When we were seated, we placed our orders and got our food in probably 5 minutes or less which was impressive. The coffee was ripping hot, not the best but did the job. We got the April special which was Korean fried chicken and chili for $14-pretty good deal and a won ton min. For us, the won tun min was the real star. The broth was super clean yet flavorful, and the large had a ton of dumplings in it too! Service was nothing super special, but enough to get what we needed in a timely manner. They were able to accommodate and sit my family of 6 as well as another family of 6 that was flying in from Oahu. The server was so patient with us while we waited and continually checked in on us.
