Such a hidden gem! I let my husband choose where to go for brunch after we did the sunrise over the clouds and he chose Island Fresh Cafe. I was driving so I went in blind. Didn't look at reviews or photos, we just went for it. The location is easy to find and we got parking no problem. The walkway and décor outside were beautiful and I just had this at home feeling. We sat at a nice big table by the tree and just felt at ease. Our waitress was friendly and kind. With how busy it was we didn't have to wait long to be seated or receive our meal. I got the Upcountry and my husband got the banana bread French toast. Both of our meals were delicious and fresh. We tried the salsa on the table. I think it was their homemade pineapple salsa. Honestly, I was hooked! It tasted so good and we loved it. We tried buying some to take home, but unfortunately they don't sell it. They do have a little gift shop with other items and fruit that you can purchase. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area and you definitely have to try their hot sauce!

Matcha Smoothie Bowl

In my experience, nearly all service in Hawaii was slow, but this one takes the cake. We waited about 45 minutes to be seated, despite that only 1/3 of the tables were occupied. Interesting seating system that's beyond my ability to understand. Even if the actual preparation of the food were slower, I'd prefer the opportunity to sit down. That being said, they've got loads of items on the menu that wonderfully highlight Hawaii's fresh fruit. Would definitely recommend any of their juices (particularly the coconut!) as well as the matcha smoothie bowl. Overall, it was good, but I'm not sure I'd say it was worth a 2+ hour endeavor.

Weak Latte

Paia, HI. This visit yielded a very average to below average experience. The lattes were weak. This was remedied by a purchase of a double shot of espresso that we added to our lattes. They were quite good after that. The avocado toast was good but nothing special. The paniolo omelette was very disappointing. It was supposed to have bacon in it. There was none. There was supposed to be Portuguese sausage in it. There was, sort of. It was finely chopped and a bit of it was cooked in with the eggs. Very little flavor emerged, not even garlic. Most of the flavor was egg and salt. The only actual internal ingredient in the fold was a slice of cheddar. I was able to make it more palatable by adding tomato's donated from Steph's avocado toast and dumping a bunch of hot sauce on it. The potato's on the side were the only thing acceptable this morning. Oh, and zero on the service, we had to order and pick up at the counter. Meh.

Banana bread French toast

French toast - small portion with ok flavor. Loco moco - good option for this dish but not as good as other versions of this dish in other restaurants. Good shopping available for Hawaii related gifts - shirts, magnets and stickers etc.

So nice we went twice! Certainly a hidden gem and off the beaten path but worth the ride. Staff was super nice and relaxed. Food takes a bit of time but is great. The macadamia nut banana pancakes are perfection. Light fluffy and packed with nuts inside. Loco moco was a hit. Cute outdoor cafe

I was very excited to eat here as the reviews were very encouraging. It was not good at all. When you walk up, it's so cute but the service and food were not it. It took 15 minutes for them to take our order and it wasn't even busy. When we finally ordered, the food came out pretty quickly, but the food wasn't warm/hot at all. I ordered an upcountry with overhard eggs, Portuguese sausage and rice. The eggs were oily, the sausage was probably my favorite part of the meal but only 4 little pieces???, and the rice was cold and tasted day old. There were so many flies at our table - at one point there were ten! The cup we got with coffee had cracks and it looked as if it was never washed. I wouldn't recommend coming here.... Very sad to be writing this review!

Breakfast burrito with wailua pork
Molly J.

Stopped by this brunch spot on our way to Twin Falls. Ordered a breakfast burrito to take on the road and it was the best decision we made that day. It was a greasy goodness of a burrito with egg, cheese, potatoes (you can choose rice if you want), and added a protein of wailua pork. It was very filling but messy because of all the grease. They opened the farm stand after we were there. People are kind and seating is outdoors if you wanted to eat there.

Kalua pork sandwich

My family and I came here for the first time. I ordered the kalua pork sandwich, my mom got the banana bread french toast and chocolate nirvana smoothie, and my aunt got the BLT and some type of smoothie. I didn't like my kalua pork sandwich. The pork was bland and unseasoned. The pineapple slaw wasn't tasty, I wish it didn't have onions. I liked the french fries though. I tried the banana bread french toast which was really good. I'd recommend it to people. My mom's chocolate nirvana smoothie was watery and lacked flavor. We have made much better banana, peanut butter, and chocolate smoothies at home. My aunt seemed to enjoy her food. I didn't ask about or try anything of hers. There were A TON of flies even though we were seated inside the room. They have spinning devices they put on the table that barely help. The service was ok. She didn't really check on us that often, but she was nice. We were sitting for a while waiting for the bill when we eventually asked and she said we need to walk up to the counter. I wouldn't come here again or recommend it to anyone. The food is edible, but there are much better restaurants elsewhere.

The most amazing spot! We had to come back twice. The best iced tea on the island and the loco moco is to die for. MAHALO!

Shrimp Benedict, upcountry, loco moco, banana bread toast, and pancakes

We are here for breakfast on our last day on the island, really cute place with adorable music and vibes, super accommodating and even though the wifi was down we still could pay through Venmo. The food was phenomenal, we had the banana bread toast pancakes, shrimp Benedict, loco moco, upcountry. Everything was so good the pancakes were moist and delicious and the perfect crunch to moist texture inside and out. Highly recommend so glad we tried it out!

Slightly disappointed with this place. It is very cute, they have indoor and outdoor seating. They have a little store as well. The staff was pleasant. We got there within the first hour of opening. It took them a while to take our order and make our food. I was expecting a little sooner since there was only one other party of 2 there. I had some pancakes and unfortunately, they were not my favorite. They were dry and flavor was lacking. The tacos were ok. Tortillas were cold. The smoothie we got was very tasty but expensive for a small glass. I was expecting something larger.

Fun place to have Breakfast in Paia! This is a Historic Train Depot Building. They have lots of merchandise for sale as you enter if you are visiting. They also have Art paintings for sale. There are different seating options outdoors as well as indoor seating available. It was a little windy outside so we opted for indoors. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. There was a long wait for the food but we were not in a rush. I had the Breakfast Sandwich which I shared with my husband and the Banana Bread French Toast. Both were tasty. Good place to visit and eat at the same time!

Back at this place after 4 years and this is our first stop again after landing. The weather is nice so it's amazing to be sitting and eating outside. We got assisted right away and food are served within appropriate time. As always all the foods that we ordered are good. They just didn't have the Monte Cristo that I had before.

Whenever people go online, it seems like more and more reviews are on the negative side, but I have a raving review for Havens. Firstly, they have the best smash burger that I've ever had, and I've been eating there for the last three or four years, with 100% satisfaction- without any disappointing experiences. Not only is the establishment popular because of the food, but the service, the caring kindness exhibited by every employee that I've encountered at Havens, makes this food truck, second to none! If this is of importance to you- I highly recommend Havens. Especially if you're hungry for a really good burger, or a real delicious simple spicy tuna roll or a tempura roll or a California roll wrapped - to check this place out, because once you go, you'll be back, for sure. Thank you to all of the workers at Havens, for the food and also for the service, which just makes everything twice as good! Happy new year to you all and thank you again for the warmth in your dedication to the service and the delicious food. Aloha!

Slightly expensive as it's around $20 a burger, but that's inline with pricing in Maui. The burger was ok, but slightly dry. It needed more sauce to overcome the dryness. While not the worst burger I've had in Maui, it's not in my top 5. Burger - 3/5

Instead I hit 'Paia Coffee and Bar' , this absolutely did the trick!! Very cool place with an infectious vibe and hip staff. It has a walk up coffee bar area right from the street & outside shaded seating which is difficult to find in this town anywhere. So I once again ordered a 12 ounce double shot whole milk latte and it was excellent.. second best rated cup of coffee I experienced in all of Maui . I can also see why on Google alone this place has 1.2 k reviews, It's really kind of a hybrid location as it serves coffee along with alcohol and food etc.. Give it a whirl, I'm definitely going to go back when I'm in town next.

We hit up Paia right before our flight back to LAX. It's not very far from the airport and I was bummed we hadn't been told to explore this area in addition to lounging out in Lahaina. There was a line formed even before the restaurant opened but things flowed pretty quickly. While waiting to order I'd pretty much convinced myself that I was going to be disappointed because the menu felt a bit basic. But boy was I wrong. The fish burgers are just absolutely exceptional. I got the snapper and my wife got the ahi. Both pieces of fish were cooked to perfection and were well sized. The bun was top notch and the coleslaw - a dish of which I am generally not a fan - was simply exceptional. At first I thought was a bit weird that they included cheese on the sandwich but that actually worked too! Go here for a no frills, reasonably priced, delicious AF meal if your travels take you into the area. Can't wait to go back on our next trip to Maui!

We arrived a little early for our reservation at a table in the back room, but were seated immediately and our server, Rocco, greeted us pretty quickly to take our orders. He was polite and attentive all through the appetizers and main course. We ordered the ceviche and mochiko ahi bites to start and Bangers and mash (substitute rice) and Kalo burger with regular fries for entrees. We opted for non-alcoholic drinks since I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and my husband can't drink. Everything was made to perfection and we were very pleased. Then we ordered dessert and the experience changed. We decided on the yuzu cheesecake and the chocolate torte with a scoop of ice cream. Then we waited and waited and waited. After about 1/2 hour of watching our server go from table to table, we flagged down the hostess and let her know our situation and asked for the desserts to go and the check. About 5 minutes later, Rocco shows up with our desserts on plates, without the check or an acknowledgement of the time we waited. It was such an unfortunate way to end an otherwise lovely evening together. At the very least, we could have gotten an apology. At the best, comping the desserts would have left a better taste in our mouths. We may or may not return next year for our anniversary celebration.
