    Dead bugs in the corner

I honestly don't know how this place has such a high rating. If you make your own pancakes it's $10 for a 8 oz bottle of batter (which only made 4 small pancakes) it's $3 or $4 for each topping you order and it's a small serving. The iced coffee was no good, I couldn't even drink half of it. My 2 year old liked it, though. I wouldn't return to this place if I visit Maui again. I tend to look for a more authentic, local place to eat. On top of all this, the place didn't look too clean. There was food residue on the griddle, crumbs on the seat from the previous party. we were sat at a booth that had dead little bugs in the corner. On the plus side, The server was nice.

Delicious food and coffee! I came for breakfast and sat at the bar. Really helpful bartenders and loved the fun colors and decor inside. Would definitely come again. Got a cinnamon roll cake and it was delicious

Quick and friendly service, the decor is super cute and the restaurant is clean. I ordered the loaded potatoes with bacon and absolutely LOVED it. Super filling and very tasty, the peppers in the potato mix were a great addition. My husband got the grand slap which he enjoyed and my girls shared pancakes. The strawberry jam is DELICIOUS!!!!!!! We have gone back two more times as we liked it so much!

I was really looking forward to Slappy Cakes but it did not live up to the hype. They are extremely stingy on toppings. I ordered the Elvis pancakes and I didn't even receive half of a banana. Mind you the small pinch of bacon and peanut butter. The taste of the pancakes was decent but I'm not sure how you can really go wrong with pancakes, for $16 id expect a lot more. I'd recommend trying out some other small cafes for pastries and coffee instead of Slappy Cakes.

The best place to go for breakfast if you have kids. There is griddle in the middle of your table and you make your own pancakes. You pick your batter flavor and all the toppings/ingredients you want. Everything else like eggs and side dishes are cooked for you and brought to your table. They even have a nice little merch section at the front desk

This place opens early in the morning for breakfast, especially for those travelers traveling east. They have a hot griddle on each table to make pancakes live (make your own) which probably is a great experience and tasty as well. We although went for their avocado toast - not what they are known for and neither they should be. Nothing extraordinary there, but micro greens make it look fancy at the least. Ambience is good and service decent. Not every place on the island that's highly rated is great and this serves for a great example.

The pictures do it no justice. Slappy cakes was awesome!!!!! Came here for breakfast and wanted loco moco & pancakes to fuel us before we hit the beach. Husband and I were really happy with the food & service. Loco moco was one of the best I had on the island and the perfect portion for breakfast. The pancakes were so yummy too!!! . We came right as they were opening and got seated quickly. Clean & huge inside. Staff were so friendly and overall great dining experience. 10/10 food 10/10 service

The place was busy at 9:15 am, so we opted to sit at the bar. We were a party of 2 and seated in 5 minutes. Our server John was fantastic! Friendly and helpful. Food was tea good and came out quickly. The brown gravy on the "Slappy Moco" was so good as well as the sausage gravy for the biscuit. The place is decorated in brown, orange and purple with a retro feel. Great place for any size group and family friendly. Would revisit and recommend.

This place is a vibe!! Walking distance from our hotel. It's centered around pancakes. They have a choice of the kitchen making the or you can make your own pancakes at the table. Everyone is super happy and welcoming. We were sat right away. I got strawberry pancakes and my husband got the regular pancakes which totaled $50. Both came with 3 pancakes each and were made in the kitchen. You do get charged 3% when it is made in the kitchen, that they don't tell you about. For the pancakes you can make at your table you choose a type of batter then you choose some fixings to put in it. They make 4-6 pancakes. Coffee was decent. Would try again.

Must stop when the nephews are here to visit. They love making their own pancakes. Gotta keep a close eye on them at 5 & 8 with a burner on the table but we always have a lot of fun. It's great for families with kids, quick pace and loud (so you don't have to worry about kids making noise). I always get the breakfast burrito and they get pancakes with fruit. We all leave full and happy!

We ate breakfast here on our 2nd day in Maui. Food was great but expensive! We decided to eat here instead of the buffet at Ritz. Ordered: 1) Hawaiian pineapple pancakes - husband and I enjoyed this, ate about 80% 2) strawberry shortcake pancakes - kid liked this but could only finish half 3) crazy loco moco - husband got this and said it tastes better than the one he had at Oahu 4) chorizo omelette - this was tasty, potatoes were a bit dry though 5) eggs, bacon and potatoes plate - decent Overall we liked the food here and did not choose to cook our own pancakes as it's too much work haha.

I've seen lots of mixed reviews. What should I expect going here in June - July 2025?

Just plan accordingly. It's busy on weekends, but usually there's no line if you show up right when they open. If you're from the mainland a visit to Slappy Cakes is always worth it. Get the griddle table, create some fun edible art and if you're… Read more

So you have pancake batter without eggs?

Yes! They have the best gluten free & vegan pancakes!

We are a party of 9 (5 adults, 4 small children). Do they have adequate seating for that?

    Yes

    Can you make reservations?

I don't believe you can. And they did have limited space seating when I was last there. We had a very short wait before being called in to sit. And it was DEFINITELY worth it!!

    Are there vegan options?

There are a few vegan options. You can check out a menu on their website.

    Do you need a reservation?

No reservations aren't required, but it gets busy and you may have a line of people in front of you.

Can the loco moco be made gluten free?

Probably not as you can remove the onion straws but the gravy almost certainly has some flour in it.

Do they have vegan or egg-free batter?

Yes!!! They have vegan & gluten free batter & it's DELICIOUS!!! Definitely try it!

    Are sundays busy?

It seems like every day is busy, but if you don't mind eating at the bar then you will gwt a seat a lot faster. So worth it!!!

While I adore and often cook a lot of Asian food I'm not such a fan of Filipino food yet around it more than any other food with family. Bad choice. After driving there from Lahaina for lunch, this dish was unavailable?? Even yelpers rave about it! So we ordered the pork belly and wanted chow fun but they only have the chicken variety? So there is a reason why the Asian restaurants we usually dine at make beef chow fun. The chicken version was bland and wanting for something else to complete it! But surely edible and nicely cooked noodles. The pork belly was ok but not slap your momma I'll go back for that good. The Mac salad was awful compared to much more affordable plate lunch places. It was flavorless, overcooked pasta, and a gritty texture! Weirdly the chairs there at the tables are low and you feel like you are at the children's table at Thanksgiving. So much so that us and two other groups including the ones that moved after ordering to our vacated table moved from the regular tables to the ones at the window with a bench on one side. We had fun joking with our replacements about that! So for the most part here it appears to be tourist clientele and not many Filipinos but my wife. I think that these exceptionally high prices for basic dishes and burgers (she asked why would people go to a Filipino restaurant and order a burger) are why not many locals eat here. And frankly most aunties make better Filipino food better at home. Glad we tried but not again. Checked off of our try try list. They didn't even have a signature dish available that we went particularly to get.
