We visited with a large group and were pleasantly surprised that we were seated within about 30 minutes of arriving. The restaurant was clean, spacious, and able to accommodate our party comfortably. My husband and I went to this place for breakfast while staying in Maui. The decor was bright and we were immediately greeted and brought to a table. I ordered the tall pancakes (3 pancakes) with chocolate chips and a side of bacon, while my husband got the Hawaiian pancakes with a side of Portuguese sausage. If you make your own pancakes it's $10 for a 8 oz bottle of batter (which only made 4 small pancakes) it's $3 or $4 for each topping you order and it's a small serving. We were staying at the Westin Kaanapali Ocean Shores and wanted to walk to breakfast. This was a 20-minute stroll along beach and through a parking lot. The restaurant has a modern vibe. We were seated quickly on a Saturday at 8 am. We ordered the Elvis pancakes and the seasonal Benedict, which was carnitas with a lilikoi Hollandaise sauce. The pancakes were nothing special and needed more of the bacon, peanut butter chip and banana topping. The butter provided at the table helped a little. I don't order eggs Benedict often but thought it was very good. I'm a passion fruit fanatic so I appreciated the hint of flavor in the sauce. The micro greens on top were a nice touch too. And you can't go wrong with a side of crispy potatoes, though they were pretty basic and could have used some seasoning. The alcoholic drinks were tempting, but we went with water, which our waiter was great about refilling. Not sure about you, but if I go out it's because I don't want to cook, so the pancake griddle tables weren't for me. We've been coming here for years and I just realized I never submitted a review. We've been calling this place Slappy Jacks for so long (that's the name our toddlers gave it the first time we visited) that on our most recent visit, I forgot the actual name was Slappy Cakes, hah. This time we opted for two tried and true options, the griddle table for make your own pancakes for the kids (ok adults too, lol) and the Loco Moco. The Loco Moco has a nice smokey flavor to it and sits on a large bed of white rice topped with brown gravy, an egg of your choice, and green onion slivers. I could have used more gravy because it's definitely not swimming in it which is my preference - so if you like gravy, ask for extra or you'll be licking the plate for every drop. Big enough to split if you're also enjoying pancakes, but it'll you're hungry you'll want to eat the entire thing. ;) The kids enjoyed the buttermilk pancake batter and we opted for whipped cream, blueberries and chocolate chips as toppers for this visit. In the past we've tried the chocolate batter and other toppings but the chocolate chips and whipped cream are our go-to favorites. Our family doesn't really use syrup so it doesn't bother us that the "good stuff" is at a premium price like a few others have mentioned. The pancakes are solid and are a fun activity and memory to create with the family. There are some real artists if you check out the photos but we're just amateurs who like to eat good food, lol. The restaurant is large and an open concept. Nicely decorated. Staff is efficient and kind, kept checking back on us. There are regular tables and booths that have a griddle to cook your own pancakes. We arrived at opening time and were promptly seated at a table with a griddle. The waitress explained how the menu worked and gave us a few minutes to decide. The coffee was weak and bland, which took us by surprise! I asked if they made espresso and she said no. Bummer. A place like this that packs out with people should have a good French roast to start, at least one would think so. We ordered the loco moco, basic scramble with potatoes and ciabatta, DIY pancakes with lemon curd and side of Portuguese sausage. Everything came out pretty fast and hot. Unfortunately, the taste was mediocre at best, with the exception of the Portuguese sausage. The patty on the loco moco, although having grilled marks, seemed to be frozen and not fresh. Rice was good, as well as the gravy. Green onions gave it some freshness and color. The egg scramble was basic, and honestly, it's hard to mess up. The bread didn't seem to be toasted, but if it was...it was so light that one couldn't tell. The pancakes were decent, yet nothing to write home about. Lemon curd was ok, too. We were really excited about going here and ended up disappointed. Honestly think they can do better in terms of quality of coffee and food, esp for the amount of people that come to eat here. read more

We came in for breakfast early morning at 7am and ordered a dragonfruit chia bowl, grand slap, and mushroom scramble. The dragonfruit chia bowl was pretty good, just the ratio of the actual dragonfruit (puree) and chia pudding was about a spoonful of each in comparison to the actual fresh fruit. It was really off. The grand slap was basic with overcooked scrambled eggs, plain potatoes that tasted frozen from a bag, and dry toast. It didn't come with butter or jelly so we asked for some. The pancake was okay. We did ask if there was another kind of syrup available other than the maple syrup that was there at the table. Our server offered us coconut syrup which was brought out ice cold. On top of that there was a $3 charge for it which the server didn't mention and I didn't see it listed on the menu. The mushroom scramble was also dry and plain. I had high hopes for this place, seeing that the restaurant itself looks bright and inviting, but unfortunately the food overall was less than mediocre. read more
