We have been by this and the Lahaina location do many times but never had the time to try it. My wife really wanted to try their crispy patta so I agreed to go try it. While I adore and often cook a lot of Asian food I'm not such a fan of Filipino food yet around it more than any other food with family. Bad choice. After driving there from Lahaina for lunch, this dish was unavailable?? Even yelpers rave about it! So we ordered the pork belly and wanted chow fun but they only have the chicken variety? So there is a reason why the Asian restaurants we usually dine at make beef chow fun. The chicken version was bland and wanting for something else to complete it! But surely edible and nicely cooked noodles. The pork belly was ok but not slap your momma I'll go back for that good. The Mac salad was awful compared to much more affordable plate lunch places. It was flavorless, overcooked pasta, and a gritty texture! Weirdly the chairs there at the tables are low and you feel like you are at the children's table at Thanksgiving. So much so that us and two other groups including the ones that moved after ordering to our vacated table moved from the regular tables to the ones at the window with a bench on one side. We had fun joking with our replacements about that! So for the most part here it appears to be tourist clientele and not many Filipinos but my wife. I think that these exceptionally high prices for basic dishes and burgers (she asked why would people go to a Filipino restaurant and order a burger) are why not many locals eat here. And frankly most aunties make better Filipino food better at home. Glad we tried but not again. Checked off of our try try list. We came here twice on our Maui trip, mostly out of convenience and the food was good. It's pricey. Yes it is. But, a solid showing. You order at the front and they bring the food to you and you can order drinks separately at the bar. The fish tacos were great. Like really good. 3 meaty tacos with a wonderful slaw. My son got the smashburger which was equally delicious, athough you did have to order $7 fries separately. The fried rice looked good and a huge portion, but sadly when we went for dinner at about 730pm, they were sold out. The poke was solid. The noodle was ok. A little bland imho, but very fresh. The food and service is actually a 5 star. The garlic shrimp was actually good. And the lady who took our order was very nice and efficient. However, the price was kinda high. I think the garlic shrimp was $27 plus tax and service charge. There were only 5 shrimps. So it was like $6 a shrimp. I stopped by here 2 days ago by myself for lunch. My father and I had been seeing the sights of West Maui when lunchtime snuck up on us. So I fired up Yelp and found Joey's Kitchen Napili. It's located in the Napili Plaza strip mall right off the Honoapiilani Highway. Originally I was going to order in person but the line was moving pretty slow. So while I was standing there I placed an online order for the garlic chicken, which quoted me 30 minutes. The inside of Joey's Kitchen is on the smaller side with most of the space taken up by tables along with a bar. After ordering I walked around for about 20 minutes before heading back. My food ended up being ready around the 25 minute mark, which beat the original estimate. The menu described my garlic chicken as rice flour and egg coated chicken breast pieces deep fried with sriracha aioli and sweet soy glaze, served with white rice and macaroni salad. Once I got back to the car I dug in. The chicken here felt more like thighs and was cooked really well. It had a nice crispy exterior while the inside stayed juicy. The sweet soy glaze brought a salty flavor while the sriracha aioli added creaminess along with a little kick and some nice umami. Unfortunately about halfway through I started to feel like the chicken was too salty for my taste. I still ate about three quarters of it but couldn't quite finish. The rice was fine but nothing special while the mac salad was actually pretty good and one of the better ones I had on this trip. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. While the salt level got to be a bit much, I did enjoy the meal overall and would be interested in trying more of their menu. read more

We came here on a Friday night and it actually wasn't too crowded. You place your order at the cashier on the right then find seating (half the tables are communal). We got the kale salad, fish tacos and the pork adobo. All of it was good--kale salad was really big, slightly too much dressing for us but still good. We also got the Crispy Pork Belly, super crispy on the outside, though the pieces were on the fattier side (great if that's your preference). It was very busy when we got there around 6:30 pm on Friday. It's a small restaurant with lots of noise and a few tables inside. It was pretty hot and humid inside, and the smell reminded me of the small homes in rural South Korea. By the time we got to the host to order, she said it would take 45 minutes to get our food, which makes sense since it was so busy -- with a line out the door. We said it was fine, grabbed our number, the stopped by the market near the restaurant to grab some snacks for the weekend. When we got back, we were able to grab a seat near the door. It had a funny booth where you needed to scoot the table to get seated. We ordered the garlic chicken and pork adobo fried rice with a Sprite: The garlic chicken came out first. I give it a 2/5. It's a breaded chicken with spicy mayo and some sort of soy-based sauce on top. It was not very good and not saucy enough (like a typical orange or sesame chicken). If you like Korean fried chicken or typically well-coated Asian fried chickens, skip this one. The host came to us around 7:30 pm and delivered the Pork Adobo fried rice. There was a little miscommunication about whether or not they had any remaining servings left for the night. Despite the miscommunication, the fried rice was the standout item of the night for us. It had a nice, well-rounded smoky taste and tasty pork bites in every scoop! I would definitely recommend this one for anyone. We had a little mix up with one of our dishes, so it wasn't the smoothest of experiences. They also tend to run out of dishes if you get there too late. One group ordered ahead of me for dine in, another group came after me for a takeout order as well, a few minutes after I ordered. The dine in group got their food quick. The group that ordered after me got their order before me. I waited about 30 minutes total. I waited 5 to 10 minutes more for my order after the group who ordered takeout after me walked out with their order. The buzzer I had never rang and the lady who took my order thought it buzzed a long time ago. We needed to go next door to the Napili Market and after checking out their menu decided to stop in at Joey's for breakfast. I got the Local Breakfast, as a tourist I don't really know what locals eat but I liked this one. It came with a couple of eggs, spam, Portuguese sausage, and a scoop of white rice. That spam was salty and flavorful and it reminded me of meals my mother served so many decades ago. Nowadays spam is forbidden by my wife and doctor, that made it especially good. The namesake is Chef Joey Macadangdang who opened up another location in the Kahului area near the airport. We ordered a ton of food for 10 people: lumpia, kale caesar salad, garlic chicken, crispy pork belly, pork adobo, pork adobo fried rice, pata, and garlic kauai shrimp. Out of all this food, what I really liked were the pork adobo fried rice and the garlic chicken. What I thought was good were the pata, crispy pork belly, and pork adobo. What I thought was okay were the lumpia, salad, and garlic shrimp. Note that they're closed Sundays and Mondays. We walked around the adjacent Napili Market while we waited but it wasn't a long wait at all. We dropped in on a busy Thursday in late March and snagged a spot for three at a shared table. The vibe is lively and bustling without feeling chaotic, and the service is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food came out incredibly fast. We started with the Brussels sprouts, which had that perfect level of caramelization to bring out the sweetness while staying tender yet firm. For the mains, the fish and chips were a standout. They use mahi mahi (dorado) with a light, crispy batter that does not mask the fish, and the tartar sauce is delicious. The garlic chicken appears to be twice fried, giving it a serious crunch while keeping the meat moist. The absolute star of the show was the loco moco. That was the crispy pork belly. Once we got to the car we figured it should be tried prior to leaving the parking lot and we immediately turned around and gave it back to them. Dry, no seasoning and not worth the price. The food trucks we have been eating at for the past week have been way better than this over priced, joke of a restaurant. My boyfriend and I went at 7:30PM. It was definitely packed. They have to order your food and they will give you a table number. Also bathrooms are outside and pretty clean. We ordered the garlic chicken, fish tacos, burger. All the food came out under 10 mins. The garlic chicken is a MUST HAVE. It was so crispy and the sauce added a nice umami and sweet flavor. The fish tacos were delicious! The only thing I wish it was doubled tortilla because when I picked it up, it does fall apart at the bottom. The burger was okay, what you can expect from a burger. My kids LOVED the kalua pork and cabbage! So much so they ordered a second helping! The garlic chicken was not as expected (fried) however it was cooked well and the sauce was a nice touch. The poke bowl was average and lacked flavor to be honest. I wish it was a tad more salty or had a kick or some option or side for a sauce. However it was fresh ahi and no fatty pieces. Hubby enjoyed the Crispy Pork Belly for his entree. My carnivore cravings were happy with the big chunk of Braised Beef Shortribs (boneless). After the Lahaina fires, owners Joey and Juvy Macadangdang turned the restaurant into a community hub, serving over 1,500 free meals a day for 18 days straight. They even slept at the restaurant to keep things going. Their GoFundMe has raised over $114K to help support staff and families affected by the fires. Found Joey's in Napili on Yelp last year while on vacation. First time we tried to eat there, the line was 40 minutes deep. Decided to come back earlier another day and waited 30 minutes. Loved it and ate there a second night which was even better. The restaurant was packed all three times we came by. Last night we were in the area and I wanted to check out the wait time as we planned to eat there tonight. There were six people eating inside and no line (odd). Cut to tonight. Called in small crispy pata and pancit. "Great 20 minutes to pick up," perfect. Got a call two minutes later saying they were sold out of the small size crispy pata so we substituted lechon kawali. There were about 10 diners tonight (hmmm, where are the crowds from last year?). We opened the lechon to go container in their parking lot because, 1. You must protect the crispy and condensation kills crispy; and, 2. Gotta try the goods while it's fresh. No! Little to no crunch factor and it too was tasteless. Major bummer. Last year we ate at this location twice while on vacation and loved it. Tonight's dinner was super disappointing. Last year the pancit was a mix of canton (egg) and bihon (rice) noodles, absolutely a stand out. Tonight it was all canton. The shrimp was dry and over cooked and I could count the veg on one hand.
