I learned about this spot after watching YouTube videos of Maui recs. I am so glad I listened to this one. This spot is delicious! They literally have a sign along the highway. We made a reservation about a week in advance and I highly recommend doing that because it was packed the night we went. I think they may have bar seating first come, first serve. I really liked the celebration cocktail and my husband enjoyed the Kamuela Fizz. We ordered the pork steam buns, which I loved the most. Pro tip: ask for four if you have a party of two or four. They won't charge you extra and you'll have an even number so no one is fighting for some. We also enjoyed the hot and sour soup and the Look More Funn noodles. Everything we ate was delicious. Our server was stellar. I recommend asking for their spicy chili oil, if you like heat. It paired well with everything we tried. Parking was very difficult right by the restaurant but someone at our hotel mentioned they always park in the Longs Drugs parking lot and we did that- no issue. read more

We had a very disappointing experience at Star Noodle. We arrived early for our reservation and walked around to kill some time. About 30 minutes before our reservation, we returned and attempted to order non-alcoholic drinks for our kids while waiting outside. We were told that this was not allowed--apparently, children cannot even have water or soft drinks in the outdoor area. This was an extremely strange and unnecessarily rigid policy. Even more confusing, we were told the bar area was reserved exclusively for walk-ins. Because we had a reservation, we were not allowed to sit at the bar and have a cocktail while waiting. The whole situation was bizarre and made what should have been a relaxed start to dinner unnecessarily uncomfortable. The food may be good, but the customer experience and inflexible policies left a very poor impression. read more

Star Noodle felt a bit overhyped to me. We came for the dim sum lunch, and unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations, especially considering the price. I initially hesitated to make a reservation because I don't love being tied to a specific time, but we ultimately decided to do a walk in. I also didn't realize the was a different menu compared to dinner. We ordered most of the dim sum items, which came with three pieces per order. The cheong fun was much larger than I expected since it was wrapped around shrimp tempura. I just wish the shrimp tails had been completely removed--the shells made it difficult to eat. The short ribs were also overcooked, which was disappointing. The standouts for me were the pork shumai, shrimp shumai, and crispy shrimp. Those were easily my favorite dishes and the best-tasting items we ordered. Service was a little mixed. Our waiter was nice, but I honestly felt like the busser took care of us more throughout the meal. He consistently checked on our table and made sure we had everything we needed. At one point, condensation from our water glasses was getting all over the table, and he noticed and brought us coasters without us even having to ask. I really appreciated how attentive he was. The best part of the experience, though, was the ocean view. It was beautiful and definitely added to the overall atmosphere of the meal. Overall, I'm glad we gave Star Noodle a try, but with the prices and the hype surrounding it, I expected more from the food. Was really let down by this viral spot. We arrived right on time for our reservation and our table wasn't ready. I brushed this off when the hostess said she was going to try to sit us at one of the waterfront tables. After waiting for ~10 more minutes she apologized and said she couldn't find us a water front table but had something else ready for us. She proceeded to sit us at arguably the worst table in the restaurant. It was directly next to the kitchen so we were constantly being brushed by servers delivering food and it was facing the sun so my husband had to wear sunglasses for the entire meal. When we asked our waiter for a new table he joked around that the sun would eventually go behind the clouds. For the food, it's all so overpriced. The garlic noodles are fine but it's just noodles and garlic, I don't understand how it's $18. Our waiter was raving about the pork buns but we found them to be very dry and low effort with huge slabs of raw carrot inside. The miso butter fish is good and the saimin was our favorite dish. The food also all came out within a few minutes of ordering and I felt we didn't have time to truly enjoy the meal. Especially with the sun glaring in our faces. Had dinner here with my son and Aunt. This updated review pains me.... Food- my cousin told me that Star Noodle had changed, that it's only dim sum for lunch, that the dim sum is super expensive and not very good. I have always had delicious meals here and thought I'd stick with dinner. Turns out, it didn't matter. Dinner might as well be dim sum too. Food came out way too fast. I actually timed the table in front of us, from the time the waitress left the table to the first few dishes coming to the table, just over 3 minutes! There were some dishes I enjoyed (miso butterfish and pohole salad), but two former favorites were huge disappointments (bao buns and the garlic noodles), two dishes I didn't care for (shrimp tempura and adobo ribs), and one that was just meh (string beans). The table to our right didn't take any of their leftovers and they had quite a bit too. Was very disappointed overall. My aunt enjoyed her meal, but I felt bad she didn't experience the Star Noodle from before... normally our first and last meal in Maui, but I cancelled our second dinner for next week! Great find! We were super lucky to be visiting Maui during a low week and were able to get a table as a walk in and even caught a sunset from our table. It's a beautiful restaurant, right on the harbor. Meals are family style and our server walked us through the menu, which was helpful because we would have definitely ordered too much if she hadn't. We shared the Hapa ramen, Tempura shrimp, Singapore Noodles, and Pork buns. The food was all great. I did find the drinks to be pretty pricey but to be fair the selection was very high-end japanese bourbons, and that's wasn't why I was there so spending $20-25 on a cocktail didn't entice me. While I highly recommend, I do think it was rare that we could seat as a walkin so be sure to book a reservation. They do charge, which is what turned us off since you never know how a family vacation day can go! read more

The ambiance is amazing. You get to hear the nice powerful wave breaking on the rocks. This sound just adds amazing white noise. We came here for lunch and there is only brunch menu. Some of the dishes were very interesting and pretty good such as pork Shumai $14.5 and shrimp shumai $16.5. These are all of the positive side of things. The other dishes we ordered were lacking and definitely not worth the price. The green bean was undercooked and the rest of the food is overly salty. The black pepper short ribs just taste like ribs with a lot of soy sauce. The garlic noodle is lacking flavor. The green salad is an over powered with vinegar and soy sauce. For the lunch dimsum, it a big thumbs down. I heard the dinner is good but they don't allow you to order during lunch time. Totally forgot the service portion. On our first dining experience at Star Noodle, we were initially impressed with our previous takeout order around 4 years ago, particularly the Pad Thai. However, our recent visit on a date night was far from satisfactory. We made a reservation on OpenTable, but the only available time was 8:45 PM. We arrived promptly at 8:40 PM and waited for 25 minutes before being seated at 9:05 PM. Our table was located at the far end, closest to the old Lahaina luau. Unfortunately, our waiter's demeanor was unfriendly, and we felt rushed, especially considering it was nearing the end of the evening. Despite the initial disappointment, we were eager to try the diverse Asian fusion menu. One dish that caught our attention was "Hapa Ramen," which I ordered due to my hapa heritage. Unfortunately, I gave it a 2/5 rating. The broth lacked flavor, appearing bland and lacking in taste. The noodles were also hard and thicker than usual. The pork was flavorless, and I personally make better ramen. The garlic noodles, recommended by the server, were hard, dry, and salty. (Rating: 3/5) The adobo ribs were satisfactory (Rating: 4/5). The white butterfish was soft, flaky, and delicious (Rating: 4/5). The sweet sake was enjoyable (Rating: 4/5). Overall, our experience at Star Noodle was disappointing. The customer service was subpar, and the quality of the food did not justify the high price. In hindsight, I would have preferred to dine at Joey's Kitchen. The service was pretty average, with pretty good speed and service. Additionally, the ambiance was average with a nice seaside view, but the atmosphere of the room was a bit tense and did not match the vibe. Sadly, the food was extremely disappointing. Many of the food that we ordered were out of balance and the flavors did not match. From the pork buns, the pickles EXTREMELY caused a sour aftertaste and diluted the flavor of the crispy pork in general. Our servers at the bar were wonderful. We had later reservations but found ourselves ready for dinner much earlier and were glad they could accommodate us at the bar. Surprisingly one of the best meals we've had on the island. We've been to quite a few places and this one plus mama's fish house stand out as our favorites. Came here with the wife - we could only get a reservation at 7:30 PM so couldn't enjoy what I would guess would be a great view (not the restaurant's fault, but something you should consider when making a reservation yourself). We ordered the Miso Butterfish, Garlic Noodles (heavily recommended), and Hapa Ramen. The cheapest cocktail was $20.50, more expensive than all but two of the noodle entrees - that didn't seem worth it so we skipped the drinks. The Ramen was pretty standard, didn't really impress or disappoint. The Butterfish was pretty good, mainly because of the miso sauce, but we did notice a table next to us got a significantly larger portion of the same dish. Finally, the Garlic Noodles - maybe I need to stop taking recommendations from this specific friend, but it was super underwhelming. It tasted like salted butter noodles with some garlic added, super salty. I love salt, but this dish just seemed like something I would eat at home when I don't feel like cooking. I guess it is what it's advertised as, I just expected more as it seemed to be an internet (and my friend's) favorite. Service was alright. We were seated right away even being 5 minutes early to our reservation, but then didn't see a server for at least 10 minutes - not a huge deal and we used the time to decide what to order. Food came out very quickly after ordering. I needed a water refill (on account of all the salt) for about 6-7 minutes before anyone even walked through our area that I could flag down. Everyone was very nice but the place seemed somewhat understaffed. TLDR: cocktails are very pricey, food was underwhelming and salty (skip the garlic noodles), and service was fast but servers were hard to find. It started off with our reservation at 5pm, which we arrived on time for, and yet it still took about 10 minutes for them to seat us at the table, even though there were plenty of tables available. I didn't quite understand why there was a wait. It also took a long time to get our menus, have the waiter come over to take our food, etc. I also was not a fan of the table we were at, since it was closest to the beach, and the sun was right in our table and faces, and it was blazingly hot. There was no breeze. It also took some more time for someone to come over to our table, and ask them to give us water. Anyway, the food was very mediocre. We ordered the Steamed Pork Buns, Pad Thai, Nico Cham Chicken wings, Lahaina Fried Soup, and the Malasadas. I barely remember the food. The seasoning for every dish was very good, the portions for most of the dishes is small. There were four of us, we were told a group that size order 5-8 dishes. Kind of pricey place with small portions. Most people around us, we saw had to order multiple dishes. So mostly downgraded their star rating due to portion size and price. Also, not many plant based items on the menu. We pretty much tried all there was on the Sunday lunch menu. They have a separate brunch menu that goes til 1 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. May need to make reservations it seems. For the food, the garlic noodles were good but not wow, the cheong fun was good, the green beans lacks absorption of the garlic and flavor, the kimchi was decent but not the best I have ever had (and pricey). Don't really understand the hype, and not my type of restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the decor, and the staff was amazing. But the drinks were mediocre, over priced, and the noodles were just meh. We came randomly on a Sunday with no reservations. We ordered whiskey sours which were watered down and didn't taste amazing. I ordered the hapa ramen and my partner ordered the hot and sour. Yes, the hand made noodles were good. It was more like soba noodles. But it didn't really go with the items in the noodles. Soup was decent. Caveat that we are vegetarian, hence we were informed that fish sauce is in just about every dish upon arrival, no mention on their website or menu. However any other restaurant we visited in two weeks through the islands has always had ample options or modifications to present. With that said, our waiter was plain awful, zero effort, assistance, or accommodation in any way. Would not inquire on any possibilities of what could be done for our orders with the chef. The only modifications that were done were whatever we could think of or ask, even then it was salvaging a meal versus anything enjoyable. However portion size and the amount of protein in each noodle dish was very minimal for the price. A single dish is not enough for one person. Three years later, we came back to Star Noodle. Some people have said that the service isn't great, but we were very happy with the service. We had to wait about 10 minutes past our reservation time to sit, but after that, our waiter was very nice and helpful, and the food came very quickly. The menu is nice in that it's relatively small. Everything on it looks really good. We tried the chicken wings, adobo ribs, the green beans, the haba ramen, and the garlic noodles. The food was very good but didn't blow us away. Maybe it's because it sounds so good, but it's got a high bar to me. In the end, it was a very nice dinner, though the cost does add up if you get a couple of cocktails and four or five things to share. It's gonna be $200. Trying out the new dim sum menu they offer on the weekends 10-1pm. Would recommend you make a reservation because it was pretty full. The interior and exterior of the restaurant is very clean. Great outdoor view of the ocean very relaxing. Our server was great excellent service fun to talk too. Starting with strawberry soda is was good could use a bit more flavoring. The dim sum was overall pretty good the pork shims had good flavor. And the shrimp shims had lots of shrimp packed in there with a good truffle sauce on top. They paired really well with the chilli crisps. The har gow was unfortunately not that good the outside wrapper was tuff and chewy and the shrimp filling inside was felt hard. We found this place while looking for the most reviewed spots on the island. We walked in without a reservation but the staff were super kind and helped us with a table with minimal wait, even when they were sold out for the night. Their garlic noodles are the star and something to die for - very flavorful and savory. The ramen on the menu was great as well. They were very accommodating of our dietary restrictions as well. The food was amazing - I think the best we had in Maui. Our favorites and things we would definitely order again: 1. Miso Butterfish - our server recommended this and it was all of our favorite dish 2. Cantonese Green Beans - so good with a little heat 3. Garlic Noodles - yum! We could have easily ordered a second bowl. 4. Malasadas - We should have ordered one for each of us because they were perfectly cooked and delicious! I recently took a trip to Maui. I have not been since COVID, but the last time I ate at Star Noodles. the food was so good. The portions of the dishes reasonable sizes for Sharable dishes. This time I went, I found out the original location is not the Mixed Plate Restaurant & Star Noodle took Mix Plate old location which is across the way. Both Restaurants share a very small parking lot & there is very little street parking. You can go across the way and find parking at the Lahaina Cannery Mall. For food the quality & taste of the food was still good. The dishes are still sharable, but a lot smaller more like appetizer size, but the cost is the same as if you ordered a full plate. I like great food at a reasonable price & amount. Hopefully this temporary until Lahaina fully recovers. read more

Hate the 3-star rating but this place is mid at best. I've been to a lot of Asian restaurants, especially in NYC, so maybe my standards are high but the flavors here really fall flat. Maybe a cause of trying to do too much? For the long wait times to get a table, the cost, the value was just not there for me. We only sampled a small amount of the menu so I hope others have better opinions of their dishes, but I can't really recommend the two noodles dishes we had. HOWEVER!!! Pork buns were glorious and their mango dessert was delicious! I could be convinced to go back for those. Ambiance is right by the water. I am amending my 2023 review! I think they were still adapting to the new location back then. We had a wonderful experience last night, rivaling the food quality from the previous location of the hill. We enjoyed the Vietnamese crêpe (my fav), steamed pork buns, ramen, green beans, and garlic noodles. Our server, Andy, was terrific. And we had an interesting conversation with the charming manager, Andrew. read more
