Very underwhelming experience. It started off with our reservation at 5pm, which we arrived on time for, and yet it still took about 10 minutes for them to seat us at the table, even though there were plenty of tables available. I didn't quite understand why there was a wait. It also took a long time to get our menus, have the waiter come over to take our food, etc. I also was not a fan of the table we were at, since it was closest to the beach, and the sun was right in our table and faces, and it was blazingly hot. There was no breeze. It also took some more time for someone to come over to our table, and ask them to give us water. Anyway, the food was very mediocre. We ordered the Steamed Pork Buns, Pad Thai, Nico Cham Chicken wings, Lahaina Fried Soup, and the Malasadas. I barely remember the food. I don't think anything was horrible, but nothing seemed special to me, and definitely nothing delicious for me to recommend to anyone. Also the food was quite expensive for what it was. I think our favorite dish was the malasadas for dessert actually, and even those were just average, nothing special that we can't get on the Mainland. I was just very disappointed in my meal here, and would deter you from going to this gimmick.
Service and ambiance both excellent. Star Udon broth not as 'rich' as advertised. Garlic noodles tasty but a bit salty! Ramen spoons so shallow you can't get more than a half tablespoon per scoop. Adobo ribs, excellent! Great green beans, and steamed pork buns wonderful. Hapa Ramen was also a hit.

We came randomly on a Sunday with no reservations. We ordered whiskey sours which were watered down and didn't taste amazing. I ordered the hapa ramen and my partner ordered the hot and sour. Yes, the hand made noodles were good. It was more like soba noodles. But it didn't really go with the items in the noodles. Soup was decent. My partners hot and sour was very salt, and soup came like warm. She tried her best to continue eating it, but had to ask for hot water to concentrate it down. The nice waiter came back and said the chef can remake it. The remake was good. So we were fairly happy with that. Overall like I said, not really my type of restaurant but the staff was really nice and attentive.

Service tonight was good, Andy took good care of us. Ambiance is so-k, as what makes this place shine is when there is still some sun light. But you can't go wrong with any of their dishes.

We ordered the miso butterfish, nuoc cham chicken wings, adobo pork ribs, clams, green beans, vietnamese crepe and two noodle dishes. The standout stars were definitely the miso butterfish, vietnamese crepe and the nuoc cham chicken wings--they were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. On the other hand, the two noodle dishes (look more fun and garlic noodles) missed the mark for me; they weren't too salty, but lacked of flavor overall. The clams, adobo ribs, and green beans were just okay. Even with a few mediocre dishes and the reservation fee, the wings, the crepe and butterfish made the visit worth it! Plus I like the chill but somewhat high end ambiance the restaurant gave.
NOODLES themselves are exceptionally fresh. Very modern twist with versatile dishes catered to a family style experience. However portion size and the amount of protein in each noodle dish was very minimal for the price. A single dish is not enough for one person. LAHAINA FRIED SOUP (not soup) was worth a try for the texture of the flat noodle and gave a bit of a padseew feel. Just no meat. SINGAPORE NOODLE was pretty good. SERVICE at the bar and front desk was fantastic and the mixed drinks looked very interesting. Some of the most unique options with an Asian twist. Great spot on a girls date to pick at a variety of things but not a spot to take a bunch of growing boys on a budget.
I am amending my 2023 review! I think they were still adapting to the new location back then. We had a wonderful experience last night, rivaling the food quality from the previous location of the hill. We enjoyed the Vietnamese crêpe (my fav), steamed pork buns, ramen, green beans, and garlic noodles. Our server, Andy, was terrific. And we had an interesting conversation with the charming manager, Andrew.
Three years later, we came back to Star Noodle. Some people have said that the service isn't great, but we were very happy with the service. We had to wait about 10 minutes past our reservation time to sit, but after that, our waiter was very nice and helpful, and the food came very quickly. The menu is nice in that it's relatively small. Everything on it looks really good. We tried the chicken wings, adobo ribs, the green beans, the haba ramen, and the garlic noodles. The food was very good but didn't blow us away. Maybe it's because it sounds so good, but it's got a high bar to me. In the end, it was a very nice dinner, though the cost does add up if you get a couple of cocktails and four or five things to share. It's gonna be $200. Still definitely enjoyed it and would come back to try other things.
Trying out the new dim sum menu they offer on the weekends 10-1pm. Would recommend you make a reservation because it was pretty full. The interior and exterior of the restaurant is very clean. Great outdoor view of the ocean very relaxing. Our server was great excellent service fun to talk too. Starting with strawberry soda is was good could use a bit more flavoring. The dim sum was overall pretty good the pork shims had good flavor. And the shrimp shims had lots of shrimp packed in there with a good truffle sauce on top. They paired really well with the chilli crisps. The har gow was unfortunately not that good the outside wrapper was tuff and chewy and the shrimp filling inside was felt hard. Besides from that the fish sauce wings were okay could use more flavoring since and coating on them. The garlic noodles were really good. Overall pretty good experience and would go again!
This was maybe one of the best meals I've ever had. My husband called for a reservation the day before and just so happened to score a 6 pm reservation for two. Parking seemed to be tight but we still found it easily in between two restaurants. There were rocking chairs on the porch that looked so inviting but our table was ready immediately. They walked us to a table with a beautiful view, right on the water. Incredible. The server recommended the pork buns and the garlic noodles. We ended up getting the ahi avo and pork buns for appetizers and they were some of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. The ahi was so fresh, it was so smooth, like butter. The lemon oil complimented it perfectly. It was phenomenal. The pork buns had a perfect balance of salt, acid, fat and heat. They were incredible. These two are must orders!! We got the garlic noodles and the pad Thai also. Both were good, id be likely to order either again. Incredible experience. This will be a must visit every time we come back.
Excellent experience, we love the new location closer to the water. I remember the pork buns being a little better (more pork) in the past but they were still acceptable. You can't go wrong with the Garlic Noodles and they are a must have for each of our visits. The Espresso Martini was phenomenal! Our waitress was great and the food came out fast. Star Noodle is a must visit place when on Maui!
We made an 8 PM reservation for two on a Thursday night and proceeded within minutes upon arrival. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed. As a vegetarian, I asked the waiter what I could order and they said they could make pad Thai, Singapore noodles, garlic noodles, vegetarian. We ordered the green beans, appetizer and the Singapore noodles vegetarian both were excellent!! The Singapore noodles are a bean thread noodle with egg and tofu and bell peppers and tiny limes. I think were calamansi-- just delicious!! The green beans came with crispy, garlic, and spicy Fresno peppers on top and we're cooked to a chard perfection. Would definitely return. You can park in the Safeway/canner row parking lot and walk over. read more
Food was ok, nothing bad but also nothing fantastic... just good. Service was great, quick and efficient. Helpful with menu choices. The interior design was very nice, modern and spacious. Mostly indoor seating with a few patio spots. If I had to wait more than 5 minutes, I would go somewhere else. If you do go, get the bao that was probably the best dish. read more

We found this place while looking for the most reviewed spots on the island. We walked in without a reservation but the staff were super kind and helped us with a table with minimal wait, even when they were sold out for the night. Their garlic noodles are the star and something to die for - very flavorful and savory. The ramen on the menu was great as well. They were very accommodating of our dietary restrictions as well. Coming to the ambiance, it is like heaven on earth! Magnificent views of the ocean and natural sound of waves just make it the prettiest place on the island. read more

We did not have reservations, but tried our luck with a party of 5 a little after 5pm and were able to sit at the bar (even with our 5-year-old). The food was amazing - I think the best we had in Maui. Our favorites and things we would definitely order again: 1. Miso Butterfish - our server recommended this and it was all of our favorite dish 2. Cantonese Green Beans - so good with a little heat 3. Garlic Noodles - yum! We could have easily ordered a second bowl. 4. Malasadas - We should have ordered one for each of us because they were perfectly cooked and delicious! We also had the Pad Thai, Tempura Shrimp, and Pork Buns, and they were all good too. Cocktails and mocktails were all perfectly balanced and fresh. Next time we'll make a reservation in advance to sit in the dining room, but we'll definitely be back! read more

Everything was excellent! Steamed pork belly buns were otherworldly! Tempura shrimp were gigantic! The Hapa Ramen with roasted pork belly was a combination of veggies, soft boiled egg , hearty broth, and perfect ramen noodles! I totally emptied the whole bowl. The Malasadas? Who doesn't love hot dough?! Right on the water and Max, our server, was especially pleasant and helpful. Having been to the previous 2 locations, this is surely the best! read more

First time visiting here, and I came based on a recommendation. I was excited to try it, but overall the experience didn't quite meet my expectations. I made a reservation for lunch and didn't realize it would be a dim sum-only menu, so that was a bit of a surprise. We ordered the garlic noodles, Lahaina fried soup, and har gow. The garlic noodles had good flavor, but were a bit too salty for my taste and slightly dry, which caused them to clump together. The Lahaina fried soup was an interesting and unique take on chow fun, though it also leaned on the saltier side. The har gow was decent, but didn't particularly stand out compared to other places I've tried. Overall, I can see the creativity behind the dishes, but I think some adjustments in seasoning and texture would really elevate the experience. Glad I gave it a try, but not sure I would return given the price and expectations. read more

Loved everything about this place! Came on a Sunday and they had a Dim Sum Menu for lunch. Service was great from beginning to end. Ambiance was perfect with the outdoor ocean view setting and indoor feeling at the same time. Food was delicious. My favorite was the Nuoc Cham Chicken- Chicken Wings, Peanuts, Mint, Cilantro! Can't wait to come back and try the dinner menu! Definitely recommend if in Lahaina! read more
I recently took a trip to Maui. I have not been since COVID, but the last time I ate at Star Noodles. the food was so good. The portions of the dishes reasonable sizes for Sharable dishes. This time I went, I found out the original location is not the Mixed Plate Restaurant & Star Noodle took Mix Plate old location which is across the way. Both Restaurants share a very small parking lot & there is very little street parking. You can go across the way and find parking at the Lahaina Cannery Mall. For food the quality & taste of the food was still good. The dishes are still sharable, but a lot smaller more like appetizer size, but the cost is the same as if you ordered a full plate. I like great food at a reasonable price & amount. Hopefully this temporary until Lahaina fully recovers. read more

Hate the 3-star rating but this place is mid at best. I've been to a lot of Asian restaurants, especially in NYC, so maybe my standards are high but the flavors here really fall flat. Maybe a cause of trying to do too much? For the long wait times to get a table, the cost, the value was just not there for me. We only sampled a small amount of the menu so I hope others have better opinions of their dishes, but I can't really recommend the two noodles dishes we had. HOWEVER!!! Pork buns were glorious and their mango dessert was delicious! I could be convinced to go back for those. Ambiance is right by the water. We went when it was dark but I'm sure in the daylight it's gorgeous. read more

The miso butterfish was hands-down the star of the night - perfectly flaky with that rich, savory glaze that had us scraping the plate clean. Don't sleep on the garlic noodles either; they're thinner than what you'd expect from a typical garlic noodle dish, but it was good flavor. The Asian short ribs were another highlight - tender and saucy. The green beans were the one miss for us - nothing wrong with them, just unremarkable compared to everything else on the table. Stick to the fish, the ribs, and the noodles and you're in for a great meal. read more
Star Noddle was our last restaurant that we visited during our trip to Maui and the best tasting vegetarian dishes! What was surprising was that the prices are great for the location and the views! We had an ocean facing table. Our server did a fantastic job recommending best dishes for vegetarians. The green beans are too good, I'd highly recommend!! read more

We had an wonderful dining experience at Star Noodle. Our dear friends who have been here before could not stop raving about this place, and now I can understand why they love it here so much! Made it just in time for our 6:30pm reservation. We were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. This quaint open and airy resto had bar seating, as well as, ample tables and chairs inside. We came just in time to see the amazing sunset. The service was wonderful and our food and drink orders came out in a timely manner. All their dishes were bursting with next level umami and beyond! Similar to others, we were influenced into coming here thinking it was one of the most popular spots on Maui. Definitely overhyped. We had made a reservation but waited about 15 mins past our reservation time since it was pretty busy and they were short staffed. We ordered the Garlic Noodles, Lahaina Fried Soup, and the Miso Butterfish. Garlic Noodles: Didn't like the type of noodle they used, it was too skinny and I'm used to garlic noodles being thicker. Noodles were also a bit dry. Portion was decent except for being a plain noodle dish, but you can add protein for an extra charge. Lahaina Fried Soup: Didn't really like the noodle on this one neither, texture was a bit gummy. I feel like it needed a sauce. The bean sprouts were also too raw. Miso Butterfish: Definitely the best dish of the night. The fish was perfectly flaky, moist, and evenly cooked all the way through, and somehow even the middle of the fish had absorbed the miso umami flavor. The inside was nice and trendy and probably has amazing views when it's light out (we had a late reservation) but overall wouldn't recommend. read more

Food was still stellar: -Udon with Pork Belly: smoky broth was yum on this one. -Miso Butter Fish: super fresh super buttery - Shrimp Dumpling: firm bite, shrimp seasoned well Service moved quickly tonight. Our food was out quickly. Not in bad way, just trying to get as many hungry folks fed. My favorite taste of the night: Sunday Night in Kyoto. This is a must try drink. Fresh apple cordial, oolong tea and Japanese whisky. It is on the sweeter side but the oolong keeps it fresh tasting. Very drinkable and dangerous! Star Noodle remains our fave! read more

Kimchi was excellent. All the mocktails were good.. not too sugary but a bit expensive for the quantity. Garlic noodles had a beautiful delicate flavor. The pork shumai, Garlicky green beans were all superb. For entrees, we shared the Hot and Sour Ramen, and the pork Udon- both were fantastic. The Pork was so succulent it literally melted as you ate it. Prices were a bit steep for the place. The decor was a little wanting for a 4 dollar sign place. Also, we had booked the place on Open Table - and mentioned we had a birthday to celebrate - and they didn't even bring it up. Completely lacking in attention to detail. read more

Is the walk up availability?
Yes, walk-ins are available but I would highly suggest to get there and line up before they open (30 minutes before they open) because they will only have bar seating available for walk-ins.
Does this restaurant serve gluten free pasta?
Yes since they do offer rice noodles in some dishes . All pastas are made fresh by them
Anyone know when they will reopen?
They hope to open at the beginning of August. Keep an eye on social media for their announcement in the next two weeks.
How is the restaurant? Was it affected by the fire? Is it open for dine in or take out? I have since learned via their Facebook page that the restaurant is in tact but will remain closed until further notice. Thanks.?
Check out their FB page - they've made a few recent posts. It sounds like their structure itself survived, but it's not clear if it means it was unscathed per se. Mane of their employees were impacted, so they've started a Gofundme.
Is there a kids menu / is this family friendly?
Family Friendly for sure, didn't see a kids menu. But a lot of the menu items are served family style.
How far in advance are reservations accepted?
You can make reservations at least 30 days in advance. Which I highly recommend. I went back one week later and all the best time spots were booked.
I made a reservation for 14 people months ago. We will be celebrating after a wedding ceremony and I'm told they can't guarantee we can all sit together. Not sure if they are…

They have vegan options, yes, just ask upon arrival or call ahead if you want to know the exact options
Does the restaurant take walk in?
Yes but I recommend walking in as early as possible before the dinner rush starts. Unfortunately I think that's at 3:30 pm.
Is MSG used in their food?
Aloha Mike! Star Noodle does not add MSG to the food. There are some sub-ingredients that already contain MSG so there are trace amounts in a few menu items. The service staff can assist you in making selections to avoid it all together.

Aloha Vicki! Star Noodle offers some gluten-free options and modifications. Your service staff will be knowledgeable and can help you through the menu.
Do you have takeout?
Yes. If you cannot get a reservation, the hostess will give you a menu to order take-out. They are really accomodating. You can sit at the bench in a peaceful area to wait for your order.

Is proof of booster needed to dine at an outdoor table?
For outdoor dining in Hawaii Vaccinations are not required. Just masks to and from the table, and until you have food or water.
