We were not able to make a reservation because of how large our group was, but they are very accommodating as they seated a group of 12 right before us. They allow you to get drinks at the bar if you have to wait and they seated us within a reasonable amount of time for how crowded they were. Our server was wonderful. She was knowledgeable, took her time, and chatted with us throughout dinner (we are a chatty group haha). The food was incredible. Everything tasted fresh and was well presented. But instead of getting regular burger, my mother in law (who has a small appetite) wanted the kids meal burger, but the server said he would not take that order and the kids menu, which was on the regular menu not a kids menu, she couldn't order that item. Located in Whaler's village. Park in the nearby garage is the most convenient and most restaurants offer a couple hours of parking validation. We did try their famous Mai tai with the lilikoi foam and it was good however I like the one at another place better. For that location, please see my other reviews. They also have excellent cream pies. Do not skip dessert is all I have to suggest. We didn't have any food because we had a reservation at another restaurant later that evening. The only BIG negative is they did not have any TVs playing current professional sports. During our visit, the NBA final was happening and it was a tight game. We were so disappointed that they didn't have it playing and they said they didn't have any smart TV capability to play it even after we asked. We had to resort to our phone to get updates. Great dinner! Suggest to come early, as the crowd becomes sizeable after 5:30ish, even mid-week. They have a digital waiting line, though, so you can browse the shops before your table is ready (must check in at the desk first). Our family had the fish and chips (husband, who said they were better than at Hula Grill), avocado and cucumber salad and poke tacos (me, both were satisfying), and noodles with butter (my kid, who are the whole bowl). I also had a Mai Tai which was enjoyable, the lilikoi foam in particular. One of the prettiest places we dined while in Maui. We were lucky enough to get a table with an incredible view. I was surprised how fast we got seated and even more surprised how quickly we received our food. All the food was great, and our server was fantastic! The Kalua Pork and Pineapple pizza is one of the best things I ate while in Hawaii. The flavors blend perfectly! For years, we've been coming to grab a bite at Monkeypod Kaanapali when we're up in the area. Although we've haven't been here for some time, the restaurant seems to have faltered a bit in food quality and food prep. Of course we understand that operation costs have increased, yet the prices were a bit steep for what one receives. Location, location, location. The Ahi Tuna Tacos had a very minimal amount of ahi on top of a large quantity of cabbage tucked into the small wonton shell. The ginger was missing and the shoyu wasn't noticeable at all. The Lobster Deviled Eggs were well prepared with plenty of creamy egg filling, but the very small sliver of lobster topping each of the four egg white halves addded zero flavor. The lobster meat was used more as a decoration than a main ingredient. The total flavor of the rich, velvety texture of the filing was excellent, but again, the slivers of lobster added zero flavor. Pete's Fish & Chips was quite delectable with the daily catch of today's offering using mahi-mahi fish. The tempura style coating was a bit flat in taste and crunch, but overall the fish and coating was not greasy and was enjoyable. The fries served with the fish were quite limp, but had a good flavor. The pizza oven, however, was out of operation waiting for a part. The service from Zachary was spot on. He was very friendly, and attentive during our meal, but was not intrusive. It was quite warm inside the restaurant, so we sat on the outer patio area, which still allowed us to enjoy the live music, which plays daily between 11am to 9pm. When we come to visit Maui, this is our go to for Mai tai and lunch. This Monkeypod is located in the Whaler's Village. You can do a little shopping and stop by here for lunch. They have a parking garage for Whaler's village. You can get a validation from the restaurant when you dine here. All the times I have visited, the food is pretty good. I really like there poke tacos. It's a yummy little appetizer. The poke is fresh and has good flavor. Their fish and chips are always good. That is always fried to crispy outside and the fish is cooked just right. The fish has good flavor and the fries are pretty good, too. I do like their fish sandwich. They are known for their Mai Tai drinks. My husband always orders one when we are here. LOL. You can't go wrong dining here. The owners are the people who own Merriman's. That place is good too. We had a friendly server, I really don't have any beef with him. The chairs are not made for everyone, I did ask a waitress if I could swap it for another chair... after some attitude that was flaking off she agreed as long as "I put it back" (right)... I wanted a burger, today is day 2 for us here in Maui... the Dukes 1/3 burger is haunting me (gonna have to get it after this burger) I wanted an Apple Cider... they offered cider, but the menu wasn't clear in its layout. I took Apple... have to say, as ciders go, it's on the rounder, softer side (a menu note would have saved me from ordering) and since I've never had a Maui Cider, I'd give it a shot, lesson learned! My beef (no puns intended) is the burger. When I first ordered a "King Kong" little did I know I was in the children's section. I told my waiter I wanted an "adult sized burger and fries". I wanted my burger well done (they got that right out of the gate) but the fries were also overcooked! When the table ribbed me that I hit the child burger, and the second one came, it looked the same... ON THE SMALLER SIDE! I was hungry, and hunger makes the best spice. I will tell you, the Ahia Tuna melt looked bigger than my burger! For what you are charging, I'd expect a larger patty. I'm not asking for a Los Angeles sized patty like you get at Lawry's, or a WeHo burger like the Palm serves, or even the burger at Cafe Bijou in Agoura Hills... The Diet Coke was flat too... Monkeypod has been on our list every time we've gone to Maui, and we finally got to during this most recent trip. This location is located inside Whaler's Village, an outdoor mall in the Ka'anapali area. We made a reservation for 9 PM (it was the only time left) but we ended up getting to the mall a few hours early so we just wrote our name to the list and they texted us when our table was ready about an hour later. Everything we got was great. We had the deviled eggs and one of the salads for appetizer, the fish & chips, fish tacos, pesto gnocchi, and of course, the famous Monkeypod mai thais. These mai thais live up to the hype - that foam is SO good and this drink alone makes the trip worth it. Pricing is definitely on the higher side. Tip for parking: if you park in the mall parking garage, they will validate your ticket here - make sure you remember as the rates get pricey. We ordered the truffle fries, mushroom pizza, mahi tacos, and ahi poke tacos. They also offered complimentary macaroni with cheese and red sauce for keiki under 3, which was a thoughtful touch. My husband and I love the original Merriman's restaurant, and were excited when we heard about the more casual, sister restaurant in originally Wailea, but now also Ka'anapali. I've actually been here two times now, kind of left with similar impressions. Everything is decent, but nothing really standing out, and very expensive for what it is. We got the poke tacos, which was decent, but $27. It was very expensive for an appetizer to share. My husband got the Maui Cattle Company Cheese Burger, which was $23. It was on the medium side, and didn't come with any fries. I don't mind paying $23 for a burger, but it better be substantial, extremely good, and/or come with fries. For my entree, I got the Fresh Island Fish sandwich ($28), in which they change up the fish daily. I think mine was the Mahi Mahi that day. It tasted fine, nothing amazing, but was also small. It also, similarly to the burger, didn't come with any fries or side. It just seemed so expensive for a tiny fish sandwich that didn't even come with fries. I'm not going to let them live down the fries! I'm glad we got the appetizer, and a side of fries to share, because we would have still been hungry otherwise. In addition, I noticed there was no difference in the lunch or dinner menu. For dessert, we got a slice of the Banana Cream Pie, which was so delicious!!!! This one was amazing. It had something called apple banana in it, which was some local fruit - tasted amazing. The pie in general tasted amazing. This was worth getting. I'm looking at the Happy Hour menu now, and it's very limiting. $4 off the cocktails sounds great, but when the cocktails are regularly priced at $20, yikes that's still expensive. The appetizers are half off, except seafood?! I will say that the service was excellent. Our waiter was particularly accommodating, especially with our toddler, who was sleeping in a stroller during the duration of the lunch. I also really enjoyed the interior of the restaurant, which was kind of how I imagine most Hawaiian restaurants to be, indoor with no windows some half outdoor in some sense with the breeze coming through, live music, and warm and inviting, yet casual interior. We didn't have live music during our lunch hour, but I noticed on their website that they do have live music daily for dinner. We ended up leaving the restaurant feeling kind of ripped off. I can't say I really loved the food here, but the experience was decent. Just an average experience over all, not my favorite. This was a huge bummer because I really enjoy the regular Merriman's restaurants still. I would return perhaps only for happy hour, only for a cocktail and a slice of that Banana Cream pie, hopefully hearing some of that live music. read more

I was going to give it a 4 today because our food didn't come for awhile but man, bartender Megan to the rescue!!!! Our fries didn't come and she personally went back and got our fries while simultaneously taking care of dozens of other clients. She recommended food to us and greeted us right when we arrived and never made us feel rushed even though she was helping a ton of other people. This place is also packed! and for good reason. It was a great sunset view, probably the best table in the restaurant! Our server was so sweet and helpful and friendly. We ordered the lobster deviled eggs and the poke tacos. The eggs had the teeniest piece of lobster on them and weren't anything special- would not order again. Poke tacos were alright. My friend loved the pork tacos and I thought my gnocchi was amazing- would definitely order again. The Mac nut mahi mahi was very dry and the fish tacos were so so so spicy- my husband couldn't stop coughing. He ended up taking the beurre blanc sauce for the mahi and dousing them in it to make it palatable. The strawberry pie was amazing as usual. You should eat here. Or at least get a Mai Tai. You might think that Monkeypod at Whalers Village is a bit touristy and a bit tacky -- it's part of a mall -- but you would be wrong (but also right). Whalers Village is touristy, sure, but there are solid shops, and there is Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman. Open-air, high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling views facing west. The sunsets are superb. Staff were conscientious and considerate -- present when you needed them, gone when you didn't. I saw couples, families, kids, singles. It's a place for everyone, and it feels like it. But honestly? The real draw might be the drink. Their signature Monkeypod Mai Tai (pictured) features a honey-lilikoi foam -- "lilikoi" being the Hawaiian name for passion fruit. The conventional wisdom is to sip the foam first to get the full flavor, then mix it into the rest of the drink. Doing this is ... *chef's kiss* delicious. Handcrafted cocktails run around $20, and they have 25+ beers on tap at $10-11 a pint. The coconut corn chowder is delicious in its own right, though it's begging for some seafood protein or bits of island-sourced pork belly to push it to entrée territory. The daily fish was locally caught mahi mahi -- a common fresh catch here, and worth asking about as it rotates. The ribeye is served with sautéed baby bok choy and jalapeño mashed potatoes. Fun fact: the jalapeño mashed potatoes are green from puréed spinach, and the jalapeño flavoring is herbaceous but not terribly spicy. Lots of flavor packed into every bite. Also a pleasant surprise was the Saimin entrée, with locally crafted noodles from Paia. Full of flavor, garnished with what I suspect (or hope) might be Virginia peanuts, it tasted like it had steeped and stewed all day for such full flavor. Entrées range from $23 (Maui Cattle Company Cheeseburger) to $74 (Prime Ribeye). Quite reasonable for Maui. The wine list is respectable, and I'd recommend the Napa Valley Peju ($88) for a full-bodied, ripe, generous companion to red meats and flavor-forward foods. It's a restaurant in a Maui mall. Wow, people weren't kidding when they said Monkeypod Kitchen has the best Mai Tais in all of Hawaii! And quite possibly on a personal note, the world, if I might add. Exclusive to the Hawaiian islands, the restaurant has multiple locations across both Maui and Oahu and features farm-fresh, local ingredients within a regional island-inspired menu. Situated right along the beach, the ocean-view and open-air setting of its Whaler's Village location doesn't get any better than this. The restaurant gets busy but we were lucky to do a walk-in and only waited around ten minutes. We started with the Monkeypod Mai Tais, of course. What makes these cocktails stand out from the rest, aside from the perfect balance between its ingredients, is the light and airy honey-lilikoi foam topping. We also ordered the roasted chicken wings and the Bourgeois pizza which featured white sauce with fresh lobster, mother farm oyster mushroom. The wings were solid but basic; nothing really stood out about its simple seasoning of garlic, local rosemary, and red pepper. But the pizza was delicious, generously sized and its flavors complemented one another perfectly. Overall the food that we had was good except two things that I'll share at the end. All three pizzas that we had were delicious. I especially like the kalua pork and pineapple pizza since I like pineapple pizzas. Don't judge personal preference. The monkeypod mai tai was tasty as many have described it to be. We tried both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic, both were good so if you prefer no alcohol, you can choose that. There was a live band when we went which was nice and lively. What didn't go so well: 1) the chicken wings served were partially charred, charred that it tasted bitter that we started scraping. Surprised that they think it was reasonable to serve that. 2) even if you wait in line for them to call, it's assumed you should check in with them even when they haven't called you since we couldn't be seated on our first attempt in a timely manner until we asked (which they then readily said they could seat us now) but we were too annoyed by such treatment that we just left. Second time was better. So, tip to management, something has to be done to be consistent among the employees staffing the check in desk. read more

Had a great time at Monkeypod Kitchen at Whalers Village. We visited twice and wasn't disappointed either time. The whole place has such an open, fresh vibe with a beautiful atmosphere. Our blue/purple-haired server was amazing. Friendly, quick, and gave great recommendations. Guided us through the menu. We accidentally booked the wrong Monkeypod location on a completely different island, but the front desk ladies were incredibly accommodating and welcoming. My partner adored the sweet girl with pigtails, gave us ice water while we waited in the insane Hawaii weather and made sure we got a wonderful table. The food was great, portions were good, and I'll definitely be thinking about the strawberry pie and legendary mai tai on my flight home. We ordered the broccoli salad ($17), kalua pork and pizza ($23), and the seafood special ($55 - Monchong with lobster mashed potatoes and unagi truffle brussel sprouts) The broccoli salad was pretty good. Interesting flavor and unique blend of olives, cranberry, and lemon vinaigrette. I asked for the dressing on the side, but the waitress recommended against it so we got the salad as is. However, the dressing/sauce was a bit much for me, so I would have preferred it on the side. The kalua pork and pineapple pizza was tasty especially with the pesto! It would have been better with more pork and a crispier crust. The crust did taste fresh and house-made The seafood special was delicious. It was fun to try a local Hawaii fish (Monchong). It was a white fish that was pretty tender. I was surprised we got a few little lobster pieces in the mashed potatoes. Their cocktails are pretty strong compared to a local restaurant within the vicinity. Happy hour pizza is $16 except for the bourgeois. There was some shrimp bacon on white cream sauce that was not on the menu, but was offered as part of the happy hour per our waiter. That was salty and I would have skipped on that had I known. Not much shrimp, mainly a cheese and bacon pizza. The Kailua pork pineapple with fresh sliced jalapeños was delish. Their rosemary red pepper wings off the appetizer menu were pretty good. It had a lot of flavor and balanced well with their yogurt feta sauce. Half off appetizers that are not seafood which leaves you with not much to choose from. Loved our experience here!!! Our server Mariel had great energy, was super knowledgeable about allergies/ gluten intolerance for our friend, and we felt so welcomed. My cattle company burger was so good. It doesn't come with fries so I upgraded to the garlic truffle fries for $5 and it was worth it. Nothing was left. I ate it so fast. My party had the chowder, flat bread, saimin, and pork tacos and no one had any complaints.
