Was staying at the Westin for my recent birthday vacation (visiting from O'ahu) and figured for our first night, we should check out this restaurant. We didn't have reservations and upon arriving at the host stand, the female hostess was snobby and did not want to help us and instead, the male host sat us down at a communal table with ottermans for seats. We didn't feel like crouching down to eat so I went back to ask if we could sit at the bar. We moved to the bar and ordered from the bartender; I got the lobster roll and my husband ordered the poke nachos. We realized there was a musician playing and wanted to move closer to the music. So I decided to go back to the host stand and ask if we could get on the list for a table close to the musician. The female host proceeded to snob me WHILE she drinks from her hydroflask. The male host stated to me that since we ordered our food already, we are not allowed to sit on a table since those tables have servers too. He also had an attitude. I asked very nicely and felt that they thought I was interrupting their deep conversations. The male host reluctantly stated that the tables open up after 9:30pm. Management really needs to school these two on how to talk to guests with more respect. This was on 11/14/25, approx. 8pm. As local kama'aina, we expected more but those two failed miserably. After we finished eating our food, we closed out our tab and moved by the musician. Needless to say, we were nicely greeted by a waitress who asked if she can get us anything. This place could be so much more but our experience with the front of the house was enough for us to not return during our trip. On the flip side, the lobster roll was really good whereas the poke nachos was okay. There's so much more dining options within the Westin's vicinity with great service AND food, like Leilani's Beach Bar (at Leilani's on The Beach) so we would not recommend this place BUT if you want a good lobster roll, this is the place to have it. read more

7/3/24 My husband and I came here for lunch. We shared the vegetable spring rolls. The rolls were nice and crispy but slightly doughy on the inside. The sweet and sour dipping sauce was tasty but typical. I really enjoyed the lobster roll. The lobster was buttery and not over sauced in mayo and the portions were very filling. It came with fries which were crispy and typical. My husband ordered the vegetable yakisoba noodles. They too were tasty but could have used more vegetables and less pickled ginger. We were seated near the walkway over looking the beach. There was a family playing soccer right near our seats which was slightly distracting but overall the view of the ocean was pleasant. Stayed at the Westin and ate at Hale Mo'olelo twice. Entry is right next to the pool - huge bar, TVs, and nice beachy (some sand) area overlooking the water. Had a nice view of the sunset. Drinks were good - Had the poke nachos which were quite good, and the chicken karaage which we both liked. Kids had kids meals which were so-so, the veggies were actually not good, I didn't even try to get them to eat them. Had live music, overall atmosphere was great, we enjoyed it and ate there twice (but no kids meal the second time). What a disappointment. I've been in Maui 4 days now. We've eaten here 3 times. 1st night at at the bar, drinks were served well and my choices for the night were the garlic shrimp and tempura fresh caught fish of the day tacos and edamame. The garlic shrimp was mid, fish tacos were good and the edamame was surprisingly tasty. Second time we ordered in the lanai. Waygu burger was a burger, nothin special but I thought food was better when ordered at the bar. Brings me to tonight and the reason for 1 star. We wanted to stay in and order from the à la carte menu to be delivered to our room. Hadn't ate much today so at this point anything has to be good right? No wrong, ordered the fish tacos again, todays catch was not good at all. We also ordered a pizza and it was by far the worst pizza we've ever had. So besides the crazy swarm of knats that attacked us as soon as we walked in, Hale Mo'olelo is a very cute, trendy outdoor restaurant that can be found beach front at the Westin Hotel. Loved the modern aesthetics while still maintaining the island vibes. The food was absolutely delicious, would definitely recommend trying the wings appetizer. These wings were cooked to crispy perfection, sprinkled with a dry rub that provided just the right amount of spiciness to them. Came to Hale Mo'elelo because we didn't get to the hotel until 7 pm and had a hotel credit that we had to burn. Plus we didn't want to go anywhere else after travelling all day. All I can say is...how does this place have such a high rating? We had $100 of hotel credit to burn, so we got the Thai Sticky Wings to share, Auntie's Coconut Curry with added shrimp, and Tempura Fish Tacos. The Thai Sticky Wings were fine, I liked the sauce on them and the wings were pretty big. But the entrées? Man, these just were not very good. The coconut curry was extremely bland, I don't think I've ever had a more flavorless curry in my life. And the fish tacos were highly questionable. Mahi mahi by itself isn't the right fish to use for fish tacos, but I've had mahi mahi tacos that were passable. The batter on this was flat out terrible. No flavor at all. We couldn't even finish the tacos. If I had actually paid money for this, I would have been pretty furious. Service was fine, no complaints on this front. Again, I'm not sure how this place has such a high rating. Very bland food. You can literally go anywhere else on this side of Maui and get way better food for your money. read more

Contrary to the yelp status this restaurant is open! It's feb 2024. Restaurant is located in the Westin resort. Beachside seating and covered but open outdoor seating too. Food is delicious here! The fries are exceptional. They arrive hot and they're super crispy. There's got to be a special seasoning layer that makes them this crispy. The chicken karaage is so good too. It's a type of Japanese fried chicken nugget with tasty seasoning. The Kobe burger comes with fresh veggies like sliced onions and fresh green lettuce. We grabbed a seat closest to the ocean and the views with the backdrop of the picturesque resort was just perfect. Food is resort prices and to be expected but it's not much more expensive than non resort places we visited for food on the island. Local drink favorites that aren't on the menu: Lava flow which is a pina colada with strawberry Miami vice which is a blended strawberry daiquiri mixed with pina colada, and a pineapple slice to boot! You get 20% with your Westin vacation club card for dine in food. It's a card we got at check in at the Westin and I think it's part of the Bonvoy Marriott perks. read more

I shouldn't have come, I should have come, I shouldn't have come! I stayed at the Westin Maui Resort at Ka'anapali and was given a voucher to spend on each stay so I decided to grab some crab cake, oysters and a dessert with my boyfriend to end our second evening in Maui. The crab cake was flat and dry and the oyster was filled with wakame and ponzu sauce so I didn't get much of the oyster taste. Around midnight, three to four hours after eating at Hale Mo'olelo, my boyfriend and I woke up to a severe case of food poisoning. We were both up in the bathroom for over 8 hours, couldn't even go out to buy medicine or get anything for our pain. I notified the front desk and they did nothing to help, afterall we got sick from one of their restaurants. Luckily, my boyfriend and I were able to place a couple orders on doordash for some charcoal pills, water, Gatorade, and food that we could barely touch. This was my first time getting food poisoned and I didn't go to the hospital hoping that we would get better. I had to cancel our submarine tour and luau during our third day in Maui and our flight was the following day. We have eaten oysters so many times before and had never gotten sick once. If you're a tourist... this is a tourist trap! I used to live in Honolulu for years so my standards for local foods are probably higher than a typical tourist visiting the Hawaiian islands.. It is located at the Westin and looks nice but the food is awful... we ordered the North Shore Garlic Shrimp since the server even insisted that it's really good and "local style". The shrimp had no hint of garlic at all. It was just fried shrimp that was similar to coconut shrimp. The rice is drenched in aioli and disgusting. Also, my rice had blue fluff in it! I brought it up the guy collecting our plates who seemed like he could care less even after I showed him the blue stuff in my food. The waiter Ray (or Roy?) came back to ask about it so I told him there was blue fluff and he said "I will tell the manager about it" but still handed me the bill charging the garlic shrimp... pretty disappointing. read more

We did not realize it was just Tropical Disneyland for mean tourists and their screaming children. Tourists who go to Kanapali are the people who are too scared to even go to Cancun. Overwhelmingly, everywhere we went was packed with White clientele who were treating the non-White service staff like garbage. That said, this restaurant was the best one we went to on the sliver of coast dominated by resorts and hotels. The view, the ambience, and the overall vibe were the closest to Hawaaiin laid back you could find. They had live music and the food itself was pretty good - we had drinks, the crab cake, and the ahi nachos. The nachos were good, the crab cake was delicious.
