Great laid back spot for a meal. I would love to go here on a Sunday to watch a game. I came at 6pm and just missed the happy hour. Food is pretty simple. Got the jalapeño poppers and the pulled pork sliders. You can't go wrong with it. My only issue were the bun on my sliders got a bit spongy. Service was good. so this is a very hard review to do because in general I've came here a couple times when I come to the island and the bartenders are always extremely attentive and kind. I only sit at the bar so this was probably my third night in a row, I have had the jalapeño poppers which are amazing. I was there on Saturday night. Had a couple rounds. All of a sudden a wedding party comes in and the managers kicking everybody out extremely rude no explanations just telling people "get the fuck out". I found it to be so distasteful and abrupt to the environment. I was not returning. I Did want to return on Sunday to see if there would be any apologies, however after experiencing what we're experiencing really left a sour taste in our mouth the manager I hadn't seen there in the last couple days. Food is good. Service is terrible. I told myself I wouldn't leave a bad review if the service was better. Unfortunately, nothing has changed and I have messed up orders and service was the slowest of anything on the island. I wanted to give them another chance after our last disaster of just sitting waiting for food, especially since we had guests joining us. It is super understaffed and when putting your order in, they somehow mess it up and you have to wait another 20+ minutes for them to fix it. I hate leaving bad reviews unless they deserve it. A gem next to the Kaanapali resort area. Best food in town, of the entire week we were there. Everyone enjoyed their choice. Great service, casual dining inside and outside table - but high end ingredients. First time visiting Happy Fish while on vacay in Maui and WOW, this place is awesome -- especially for a late night bite!! We unfortunately left it to 8:30pm to find a dinner place (had a full day) and many places were closing soon. I came upon Happy Fish during my research and looked at the menu, everything sounded good. Upon arrival it was ~9pm and they close at 11pm, so still have a few hours. It was actually kinda busy for 9pm. Folks at the bar and a few tables. It was seat yourself though so we grabbed a spot and our waiter came within a couple minutes to greet us and bring waters. I already knew what I wanted: TROPICAL MAHI RICE BOWL: mahi filet over a bed of rice with slaw, mango salsa, poblano sauce, sour cream, cilantro & lime. The mahi was grilled and delicious!! I asked for a side of hot sauce and that completed the dish. Absolute !! The service was really great, I enjoyed Michael and his conversation. He was so interesting and definitely made the experience 5 for us. The other thing I really appreciated about Happy Fish is that they didn't bust your wallet. The prices were competitive and because of that, I'll definitely be back. I saw they have a happy hour menu too 9-11pm, I'm going to try that before I leave along with black light bingo Wednesday nights!! Hubbs had promised me brunch so we swung by HF as we knew they served Bennies...however we forgot it was Labor Day Monday and breakfast is only on the weekends :| Our mistake. The server took our order at the table instead of at the front desk and I plumped for my usual: Shaka Shrimp - small morsels of crunchy goodness topped with a lavalava sauce that adds heat and makes is even moreish, YUM Roast Potatoes - good, could be crisper, but well cooked, served with ketchup Mai Tai - huge with a lilikoi foam, tangier than usual today, and strong! Hubbs ordered: Lil'Ginger - delicious blend of ginger ale and lilikoi which he really enjoyed (going to be recreating this one at home) Smash Burger - juicy n big, we nicknamed it the murder burger as it came with a sharp knife stuck in the middle :) Hubbs demolished it, literally inhaled it, so 10/10 We sat at the hi tops next to the bar but there is plenty of other seating choices on the covered patio and bar. Easy parking outside, no sea view but this is a lively locals spot with a great vibe and good solid menu choices, and great cocktails. The name of this place sounded like a poke spot to me but it's really not and fish is actually featured in less than half of the menu. Lots of nice versions of bar favorites. Come during one of their two happy hours (I think it was 9-12 and 5-11pm) It's a nice spot with a breezy and private covered outdoor patio adjacent to a dining area and bar that opens to outside. It's in a strip mall but this spot is really nice. It feels neighborhoody, other groups were clearly a broad range of local residents. This would be a nice place to hang and chill after work, plus they're open til midnight. Non happy hour drinks were fairly priced. Food was good. My fish tacos with mahi were excellent, served with a great pickly slaw. Fish and chips were crisp and piping hot with a decent tartar. The fries were excellent! Theres some patio seating too with visibility to the tvs. Buffalo cheese chicken sliders were decent. Toasted, with light blue cheese. The poke bowl was dry, and they don't have any good sauces for it, so that was disappointing. The loaded tail gate taco bag, which is a game day special was awful. Says it comes with waygu beef but it was really just a few dry ground beef crumbs and a few other toppings in a smalll fritos bag. Can't believe they charge $15 for it. The spicy margarita and espresso martini were delicious, and they have a good draft beer selection. The espresso tasted fresh. Tried the ahi BLT with tater tots. It was nice to try something new. We normally get the fish tacos. The ahi BLT was fantastic. Everything is better with bacon. But what made the visit special was the great service from Shane. He took care of the special requests that my niece and wife made. They had the tropical mahi rice bowel. We spent our last night in Maui and had the best meal of the week. We ate at a couple of the big and popular trendy restaurants and we were not impressed by the ok & over priced food. We were happy to find a smaller local place with great servers (Claire) and delicious food and prices that you would find back home. Happy Fish is a major disappointment, especially considering how busy they seem to be. The food is simply not up to par. The fish was incredibly dry and overcooked, completely lacking any freshness or flavor. The sides were no better, as the roast potatoes arrived soggy and cold. The service makes the experience even worse. The staff is painfully slow, completely inattentive, and unhelpful. We had to wait forever just to get water, and trying to flag someone down for the check was an exhausting chore. Best happy hour on the island! We discovered this place halfway through our trip and wish we would've found it sooner! Happy hour is from 11-5pm so you can get a great deal for lunch or dinner. The food was amazing. We highly recommend the chicken wings, cobb salad, and keiki menu. Probably the best, crispiest wings on the island! Also, their Mai Tai's are a generous size and delicious!
