My husband and our friends came here one evening for dinner and it did not disappoint!!! Upon walking in, we were greeted immediately and were seated outdoors in about 5 minutes! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL outside with plentiful seating and a perfect view of the sunset on the beach. I ordered the fish and chips, my husband ordered the hot booty ruben, our friends ordered the ribs and chicken wings. For an appetizer, we got the nachos and man, did it hit the spot! You know how sometimes when you order nachos and they come out soggy? This didn't, it was nice and crunchy and after a beach day, it was just right with the beans, pico, jalapenos, and sour cream. The fish and chips were delicious- the fish was nicely battered with a THICK chunk of fish, not skimpy at all and the ribs were nice and juicy and fell off the bones!! Our favorite was the hot booty ruben sandwich- full of flavor, juicy meat along with the tartness of the sauerkraut! Our least favorite were the chicken wings, it wasn't as juicy as we hoped it was going to be but it was a chunky and at least got us the protein we needed. All in all, we are going to come back again. We all agreed that this was a winner. PS, try their house made Maui mules!! All of us tried it and it was so refreshing, especially with the candied ginger on top! Not only did we come here once, we came back again another night to try other foods!
Service is as incredibly friendly and you have views of the beach. Nice to walk around before or after (it's right next to the pool too though so it can get loud if there's lots of people/kids there). Food is good in a tgif/chilis/applebees sort of way ~ we enjoyed it here
IMHO Captain Jack's was formally located on Front Street overlooking the iconic Lahaina Banyan Tree. It is now located on the Sands of Kahana resort property. We made it a priority to visit Captain Jack's this visit. The open-aired restaurant overlooks the resort pool. If I were swimming in or lounging around the pool, I would not like having an audience of diners looking at me...but that's just me. LOL We shared the Calico Jack's Burger, "fresh 6.5 oz. certified Angus beef, bacon, cheddar, toasted brioche bun, lettuce, tomato, red onion, thousand island, mayo, and fries", $24, and an order of Jack's wings, "6 chicken wings, celery, carrots, sweet Thai chili", $18, plus one 22 oz. Bikini Blonde beer, $12. Service was aloha friendly and helpful, and the food was satisfying!
Good Place for drinks and snacks, close to a nice (pretty quiet) sandy beach, next to hotel pool. Parking lot nearby in front. Variety of sandwiches, entrees, salads ... Variety of drinks. Pretty area of Maui.
The food was really good overall. The calamari tasted really fresh and the sauce was tasty. Been here twice and ordered all kinds of things and it seemed like there was not a bad dish. The fish they serve is caught daily. Super fresh. The portions of the food is worth the prices as you will get your filling and possibly take some leftovers back to your housing. Had the same waiter twice and he was nice. Forgot his name. I recommend sitting in the back in the afternoon so you can watch the sunset. Really good for pictures. The actual restaurant itself seemed clean and comfortable. Giving Captain Jack's a 4/5.
Had a great meal at Captain Jack's Island Grill and would definitely come back again. The mac salad side was creamy with just the right tang and kick, tasted classic and comforting. The standout for me was the blackened fish tacos. The fish was perfectly seasoned with bold spices and topped with a spicy salsa that added a nice kick. The portions were generous, the pieces of fish were huge, and honestly just one taco filled me up. Ended up getting two meals out of it! The coleslaw inside was crunchy and fresh, adding great texture. The tartar sauce had a really nice dill-pickle flavor that paired perfectly with the fish and tied everything together. Great portions, well-seasoned food, and super satisfying meals that would keep me coming back again.
Good drinks and food with a pretty stellar view!! Get the steak and shrimp ! Truly amazing and a lot of food. Service is good and prices are very reasonable for Maui.
While on my bday trip, we went to several fancy smancy restaurants but our go-to restaurant that personafied the easy breezy Maui culture was Captain Jack's Island Grill. Located across the street from the first resort we stayed at, this covered outdoor gem sits beside the pool and has amazing beach water views. The food was outstanding for bar food. The BBQ ribs literally fell off the bone and were the star of the show. The crab cake sliders and the tacos were super tasty. The drinks were strong and I've heard for years how expensive Hawaii is, nope, the prices are less than Miami.. No Cut!! If you're anywhere close to Captain Jack's when visiting Maui, definitely stop in, the staff is friendly, service is great and the food is gooood!!
After a long, I mean a LONG, east coast to Hawaii flight, we took a quick walk over to Captain Jack's Island. OMGEEEEEEEEEE We are definitely going to get into it. But let's start off by saying on a Thursday early evening, 7ish, the restaurant was packed! Ding ding ding. That folks is a GOOD sign! Wave the GREEN flag! We were going to wait 15 minutes for a table but seats at the bar opened up, so bar it was! Weather for this outdoor restaurant is fantastic! Locals, lots of them were here. Ding, ding, ding another good sign! (Waves green flag again!) You don't have to green flag me anymore! The menu was pretty expansive and we came to this gem twice in a less than 48 hours, that's how good it was. Let's get into it! Chicken Tacos - OMGGGGGGGG listen these tacos gave Mexico a run for their money! Ask for avocado! Fish Tacos - They were good! But the chicken was better in my humble opinion. Crab cake Sliders - I'm from the DMV so kinda hard to out do a crab cake, good but not a DMV crab cake. Pull pork sliders - Great! Chicken Quesadillas- Delicious!
Went here when I was in Maui. Stared with the ceviche and nachos appetizer. Both yummy. I had the BBQ plate with ribs, pork, Mac salad and coleslaw and rice. The ribs were really good. The puna cola and vibes were great. So full!
We walked in the reservation for seven people and were told it was a 30 minute wait and it was actually less. Our server was great and checked in on us several times. We ordered drinks, they came quickly and were on point. The seven of us ordered our meals which came promptly, hot and were delicious.. It's a casual but cool vibe. Everyone enjoyed their meal, I had the Sirens shrimp! Delish. Wife had Shrimp & fish and said it was the best fish she has had. We are here for a week and already made plans to return...
It's wonderful to see more businesses at Maui. This restaurant opened about a year and a half ago. My hubby ordered a pesto pasta with shrimps. They had so much shrimp in the dish and they were delicious! I ordered the Blackened grilled fish with vegetables and rice. I think they could have used a little more seasoning for the fish. Veggies were done just right and fish was not overcooked. The lava flow drink looked quite different but was also delicious. Lastly, we had the lilikoi crème brulee. I loved it since it was lightly sweet and tangy. One must try it if you like lilikoi. Service was excellent. She was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is casual, with a view of the beach and lots of tv screens for those who live to watch sports. It was a busy night but quiet enough to have a conversation.

If you're having doubts about eating here, let me put them to rest. Go. The service was great (Omar was a g, super nice), we enjoyed people watching everyone at the pool. But the food? PHENOMENAL. We shared the BBQ plate and fish and chips. The fish was so fresh and flavorful. I had to take a moment to process the magic that had entered my mouth. But my number 1? The absolute goat? THE RIBS. Those ribs were the best I've ever had. They fell off the bone and the crispy exterior was so freaking good. I have no words. I can never eat ribs again. Truly a life changing experience. If you come here, order the ribs. Please. Let me leave you with this. God is real and his name is Jack. Captain Jack. read more

We entered a lively place, with some merch where we waited for a table. They were able to seat us in just a few minutes. This is an open air restaurant which tied the restaurant and a pool area together, giving the place that fun outdoor vibe. I had checked out their menu beforehand and ordered the Calico Jack's Burger, what turned out to be a pretty standard bacon cheese sandwich except it included thousand island dressing. That added a hint of sweet. For my side I got the coleslaw, a very large bowl that almost dwarfed the burger. But I began with a cup of their Me Hearties Clam Chowder. The first taste was salty, after that my taste adjusted and it was delicious. Not sure how much clam was included but I liked the creamy flavor. Our server did a great job and he easily handled unusual requests from our table. We had a fun time and we're happy we visited. read more
Holy hell this place is a hidden gem! The food was off the charts delicious and our waitress Yna was the best. We have visited some places that people say are "must go to" places while on our visit to Maui and Captain Jacks Island Grill blows them out of the water. The drinks are true pour drinks and the food was delicious. The price is great for the quality and exceptional taste. The ceviche and crab cakes are delicious. The bar is a nice size and the dining room has plenty to of space with a nice breeze coming through! I highly recommend Captain Jacks Island Grill and will visit on my next visit for sure! read more

Had lunch here one day while staying at Sands of Kahana. The revamp of the dining room is nice. We were seated quickly and they took our order swiftly. The food here is just "ok" in my mind. I shared a Taro burger, and had a few bites of the fish and chips. The taro burger needed more cooking time in my opinion as it was slightly mushy, and there was not enough of the pineapple salsa on top. The batter on the fish and chips tasted oily, so I ate the fish and discarded the batter. The service was great, no complaints there! Perhaps they just need to fine tune things in the kitchen. read more

Nice spot with good food and local vibe in the Kahala area. A short walk away from parking down to the restaurant. Fish and chips were slightly overcooked but loco moco, grilled fish with shrimp, and fish sandwich were all delicious. Really nice open air, patio style dining with water views. read more
We came here for happy hour. Beware that the restaurant is right next to the pool and the kids were jumping in and splashing customers. There was a member of the staff that told them to stop splashing us three times. We ordered the crab cakes, shrimp tacos, blackened fish with mashed potatoes and the tuxedo chocolate mousse cake. Really enjoyed this place during happy hour of the NFC football game. Got one of the last available tables on the sports bar side. Service was great. Very prompt and follow up was good. Had their sliders, chips and salsa, and a couple of drinks. Their prices are in line with other restaurants in the area. Fairly affordable for a resort restaurant. We also ate breakfast here. I like the variety of choices on the menu. Highly recommend this place! read more
We came in the evening and it wasn't too busy, which made the whole vibe really relaxed and nice Our server was super friendly and attentive from the start...just easy, welcoming service without any rush. Everything was honestly delicious The ribeye was perfectly cooked, juicy and flavorful. The SHARK BAIT SALAD was so fresh, and that dressing was a highlight for us The ceviche was also bright, fresh, and really tasty. Just a really good, easy dinner overall. On travel from Southern CA, wanted to go to their new location after the fire (they used to be on Lahaina's Front Street). They are now located inside Sands of Kahana Resort. It was a nice location, right next to the pool, ocean-front, the ambiance was nice. The service was nice, too. The best part was the food. I ordered their infamous fish-n-chips, my husband ordered the tacos trio. Both choices were excellent - highly recommend. Unlike mainland fish, the whole fish filet chunk (not pieces of fish glued together by batter) was nicely breaded & oh so crispy! Loved the freshness of the fish, too! The tacos tasted great, too! They have happy hour from 2-4 (ck the hours to be sure) & most drinks are 20% off. Come & give them a visit.. & hope you'll enjoy it, too, as we did! read more

Service was great! Close to fantastic! (free would have been the only other step up)! Tacos were very good but when i used the sauce and pico de gallo from the Davy Jones crab cake, it kicked this dish way up in flavor! The Macadamia Nut crusted Ohno was slightly disappointing-it could have used more flavor. We're not sure if it's just this fish..or if more spices and seasonings would have made the difference. The Ohno fish and chips were "run of the mill fish and chips". Nice atmosphere-friendly staff. read more
So glad they moved into the Sands. We stay at the Sands regularly and we were so sad when there wasn't a restaurant/bar on site, so we've been hoping a good spot would move in and we're very happy! We went a few times this week and all of our servers were excellent and friendly! All of the food was awesome and the happy hour deals were solid. The sweet Thai chili wings were amazing and the spam Moco for breakfast was delicious! Also loved the banana mac nut French toast. read more

This place was good for a sports bar / grill vibes. Went here to watch the Cowboys play while we were in town and service was great and food was ok for bar food. My fiance loved the fish tacos and my wedge salad was ok! Would def recommend for location vibes and a decent meal. read more

Captain Jack's location is definitely its strongest feature just a few steps from the ocean with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, the dining experience did not live up to the setting or the price point. I ordered the Jack Philly, and the menu clearly stated a choice of home fries or toast. When I asked about it, the server abruptly corrected me and said, "No, it's choice of potato." The interaction felt unnecessarily rude and uncomfortable, as if the frustration was being taken out on paying customers. Honestly, it felt tense enough that I thought the server might punch me while taking my order. The food itself was just okay. My omelet, which cost $27, came out burnt, and the "home fries" were simply potatoes. Add another $4 for iced tea, and the pricing felt very inflated for the quality and service received. To make matters worse, the actual pricing did not even reflect what was listed online. Overall, the oceanfront location is beautiful, but the poor service, inconsistent pricing, and underwhelming food quality made this a disappointing experience. Surprised, to say the least. read more

First time in Maui, last day at Maui- we decided to have dinner here at Captain Jack's after an afternoon at the beach nearby. We had the siren shrimp ($30) & philly cheesesteak. Expect lots of cheese on the philly cheesesteak, respectfully. Service was great & attentive. Pools are on both sides of the restaurant. The restaurant is kind of like a bar layout, very nice. Please help waiters with organizing the plates if you're seated at a small square table :) read more

We were on our last day in Maui and really trying to find something in a lower price range (eating out on the island definitely adds up!). They have happy hour. We'd explored most of the island earlier in the week, and since our flight wasn't until 9:35 p.m., we decided to drive down through Lahaina and look for a good spot without the high prices. We found Captain Jack's by chance. It's tucked inside a hotel, kind of hidden. You pull into the hotel driveway, and after asking the girls at the desk, they directed us down a pathway that leads right into the pool area where the restaurant is located. It is open to the public. The view is stunning ocean breeze, beautiful scenery, very peaceful. Now the food... absolutely delicious. We ordered the fish of the day so tasty and cooked perfectly. I ordered a salad with super fresh ingredients and a really good vinaigrette (no protein, just veggies, but very flavorful). I also ordered the ceviche plate, and WOW. I asked for serranos on the side because I like spicy. Hands down, absolutely amazing. We also got a ribs plate that came with potato wedges, and those wedges were delicious. We ordered two drinks, a Bloody Mary and a michelada. They weren't bad, but the tomato mix tasted more like a concentrate. I was expecting a fresh tomato base, especially since the food was so good. Still enjoyable, just not as fresh tasting as I hoped. Overall, this is definitely a place we'll return to when we come back on vacation. If you're looking for really tasty food with a gorgeous view and a lower price point compared to most places on the island, Captain Jack's is a great choice. read more
