Cane & Canoe at the Montage Kapalua is a must for anyone looking for an elevated dining experience with absolutely stunning views. The setting alone is worth the visit, but the food takes it to another level. We started with the freshly baked bread served with whipped butter, honey, and olive oil, warm, soft, and everything you could ever want in a piece of bread. From there, every dish impressed in its own way: * The seared Maine scallops were incredibly fresh and paired perfectly with a bright, citrusy sauce. * The charred octopus had great flavor, though I wish it had been sliced thinner to really enjoy that charred edge. * The Lei salad was a standout , the mango vinaigrette was so good I could've sipped it like a drink. * The Kahuku sweet corn agnolotti had beautiful pasta texture, but the filling leaned a bit too salty for my taste. * For entrées, the roasted prime filet was absolute perfection, while the tempura whole Tai snapper was delicious, but the plating lacked the elegance you'd expect at a five-star resort, a bit more refinement could take it to the next level. We ended on a high note with the pineapple upside-down cake, served warm easily one of the best desserts I've had in a long time. Now, as for the service: we were seated right away and landed the best table in the house. However, there seemed to be some confusion around who our server was, which led to delays in taking our order and getting water refills. We had also noted in advance that it was a birthday celebration, but that unfortunately wasn't acknowledged, likely due to a communication gap between the host team and servers. I understand the resort is still finalizing some construction and operations, so hopefully with stronger internal coordination, the guest experience will fully match the level of food and ambiance they offer. With just a bit more polish, this place could easily be one of Maui's best.

Cane & Canoe is a gorgeous fine dining experience in the Montage with a view of the ocean and fresh air. The restaurant is quiet and offers relaxing setting. The staff is wonderful and takes care of you the whole time. My favorite dish was the sweet corn agnolotti. You could taste the sweet corn and truffle which worked perfectly together while topped with tender warm crab, I could eat this dish everyday it was so good. The house made tagliatelle in the shrimp scampi was cooked exactly how I like it, a little al dente, and mixed with an amazing sauce. All of our dishes were amazing, I loved the creativity of the menu.

We were super excited to try this restaurant at a sister hotel property. Ambiance is beautiful. Open air restaurant. Beautiful ocean views. Breathtaking sunset. Wine pairings were on point from our waiter who gapped to be the sommelier too! Food. Sadly we were disappointed. Apps: lobster bisque, Wagyu special, and a third we can't remember. Good but not spectacular. Entrees: scampi, seared ahi, Wagyu filet and fish special on smoked mash potatoes. All were good but took a long time to come out of the kitchen. Mash was cold, scampi had kind of congealed and the ahi was cool (which I didn't hate but unclear if that was intended temp). Filet was best in show. Service was slow overall with two large parties kind of jamming up the staff and kitchen. But only a few other tables to manage so ??? Overall a 'meh' rating

Short rib. Portion was huge. Smoked potatoes was out of this world

After being horribly treated by the hostess at the next door restaurant, we left our cocktails on the bar and walked here. We had no reservations but welcomed and given a front row seat. Had an amazing experience: service, ambiance, drinks, wine, food. As it should be. Hats off to Cane and Canoe!

Had a dinner date with my husband on a Saturday night. Called earlier in the morning to make reservations, but it wasn't too busy when we got there at 5:45 pm. If you valet park, they will validate. We were coming from the spa and left our car parked above since the spa was closed. There's a pathway to walk down from the spa down to the restaurant. The host was welcoming, and immediately turning to the left you take in the breathtaking view. Last time I dined here, it was later in the evening; so I wasn't able to appreciate the sunset. Live music of a talented guitarist playing and singing throughout dinner in the background. Our server John was friendly, informative on the current menu, made suggestions, and was very attentive. We started with Maui onion soup and lobster mac and cheese. Dinner rolls came with 3 dipping options of honey, olive oil, and whipped butter with black sea salt and were served with a creamy kombucha coconut amuse bouche shooter. The soup had sourdough croutons and gruyere cheese. My husband found the soup flavorful but a little salty. My lobster mac and cheese was delicious. Creamy, cheesy, and generous chunks of lobster throughout. For our entrees we ordered, the Double R Ranch 10 oz ribeye with broccolini and mashed potato puree and the fish of the moment- opakapaka with broccolini, wild mushrooms, on a bed of smashed garlic potatoes in a creamy green curry sauce. The ribeye was marinated to perfection and cooked medium. The broccolini and potatoes were a nice accompaniment. The fish was flavorful, flaky, and lots of texture with the spices of the curry sauce, and the crunch from the veggies gave this dish a lot of dimension. We opted out of dessert, but creamy dark chocolate candies were brought over with our check. The food was delicious, service was on par, and live music was pleasant. I understand that this a resort restaurant and the clientele are primarily tourists, but that also made it feel a bit pretentious. Definitely opt for an early dinner to enjoy the view, since you're paying a premium for dinner. I appreciate the generous kama'aina discount, so hopefully this will attract more local people to give Cane and Canoe a chance. If you have a large enough party, you may want to request dining in one of the two cabanas for privacy. I wasn't aware of the ambiance last time around since we were in our own little bubble. Thank you for a delicious meal. Would be interested in coming back for brunch to see if it feels more relaxed.

The restaurant. The only good thing about the dinner.

First I want to say that I had called the restaurant 2 days prior and asked if it was a pre fixed meal. The answer was not on Christmas but only Christmas Eve would there be a pre fix. I asked her 3 x to be sure. When I got there I was so disappointed to find out that that was incorrect it was a pre fix. Not wanting to go to another restaurant on Christmas night we stayed. Wrong move, should have left. The first course was ravioli it was cold sauced in some kind of oil and not cooked all the way. The main was fish that was small and very delicious or special the ribeye was very fatty hardly any real meat other than fat. The dessert was, just plain, not good or delicious at all. I spent a lot of money for food that was not good. The restaurant was beautiful. That's about it. One of the worst Christmas dinners we 4 had. They should have done better this was nothing more than a mass production of bad food.

The butter and bread were super yummy. Even better to wile your bread in the lobster ravioli sauce. See next photo

Spent a very enjoyable date night here a few weeks back. The service was excellent and the vibe was very cool. Live music was a plus. The server was very attentive as were the entire staff.

Heard about this venue from a friend that stayed at the Montage (a must visit for another trip) and had nothing but great things to say. In an area that should have great dining opportunities, this is one of the few that actually delivers. The layout, view and entrance are second to none on the island; you will quickly realize that it's a full experience curated by a patron genetic culture. I would suggest a reservation but it may not be necessary depending on the day of the week. The food is amazing. I typically take time to snap photos but did not have a single disappointing but. The filet was perfect and accompanied by memorable veggie options. We sampled the asparagus, Buffalo cauliflower and lobster mac... All hits. This is the only bar on any trip to Maui that can produce a great Old Fashion. Can't wait to work my way through the menu on a subsequent trip.

(Ryan Reynolds voiceover) The vibe is signature restaurant w/ the best view of the ocean! Jaime warmly greeted us! Told her we were on island time and had to forgo our 7AM appt as we strolled in at 9.... So warm & accomodating Matt served us Amuse bouche. Banana muffin avec trois Le Must jams (Produit de France). Délicieux! Roger the sous chef even came out at our request as the ladies absolutely loved the food! Lobster Benedict Signature dish. Perfect! 70% crab claw. Wow! The custom Tofu Scramble. Off menu style with 2 poached eggs! Splendiferous! Crab Omelette! Fantastic! Especially with a dash of Tobasco! Fried rice! Wow! The Fresh Fruit Smoothie was divine! The Kona Coffee and Hawaiian only blend was great with no acidity! And we finished off with fresh juice of one whole Pineapple! Matt also went above and beyond and offered to be our photographer. Way above and beyond! WOW! Signature dishes at the Signature table w/ some of my fave folks on planet Earth! Would order everything again! Woohoo!

Do you need a reservation for brunch?

It depends. For example, during busier times where higher percentages of rooms are booked at the Montage, it may be wise to make a reservation. However, I believe they do accommodate walk-ins if space permits!

The place is beautiful and modern, albeit loud inside. Also, I'd say it's not the most Hawaiian vibes, if you're going for that specific vibe. The food was really good. It was expensive, but to be expected. I went with the double fish entree and it escapes me what two fish, but it truly was delicious and maybe the best meal on my limited trip to Maui. The ube bread was dough and delicious smothered in their compounded butter. The cocktail was good. My kids ordered ice cream sandwiches, which we were told were small, but they were actually quite big, to the kids happiness. The service was slower, but the place was packed. It was busy at the bar but not to bad for the main dinning. I checked in and we were seated right away. The girl asked us to follow her to our seats seemed to be looking at the open tables and decided to put us in the middle of the room at a 4 person table. I saw that the entire section with booths was empty. I asked her if we could get a booth and she said "well those are for booked people." uhm I booked a reservation. She waited a second and walked back to the reception desk. Soon she came back and sat us at a booth which was a table for 2. So weird. Our server was really nice and laid back. He knelt down and told us the specials. SO as far as service it was very good. My wife wasn't very hungry so she was looking for a small dish. She got the Caesar salad and it was good. She also got the Parmesan Risotto. It was actually a side dish. When it came out it was tomato based and didn't have any parmesan on it. I asked the server and he said it was infused with lobster sauce. which wasn't want she wanted. He asked to take it away but my wife said no and didn't want to bother with it. I really think it was the risotto that was connected to a special dish and not the side. I started out with the steamed clams. They were good flavor and I liked the sauce with it but some of the clams didn't open which is bad. they were a nice size to. Next was the pork chop wrapped in bacon. It was cooked and tasted ok. I just expected more from this place. The server came back and was apologizing about my wife's risotto and offered to take care of the dessert . So we got the chocolate lava cake. It was really chocolaty. This place was just ok.

Our waiter took our order, never brought my wife's glass of wine; then after we had waited 25 minutes without getting anything, he stopped by to ask us how things were going so far. We were baffled: "We haven't received any food or drinks yet." Another 10 minutes later, he showed up again, apologized and said the restaurant's manager had said their order-entry system had gone down and that our order would be one of the first to go in w/the tech running again. Then another 25 minutes passed, other tables got their food, and we sat empty-handed. Two of our party finally complained to multiple staff; our waiter said to calm down and that our food would be ready in another 10 minutes (seriously?); and very soon thereafter, our food finally arrived. No apologies from the restaurant, no follow-up on why the order took another half-hour after their system was allegedly running again, no sign of our appetizers or wine. We were OK w/those last details because after waiting more than an hour, we were ready to leave. Our order finally arrived more than an hour after we had placed it, and the food was fine. After the meal, I asked three employees if I could speak with the manager; each was evasive or said he's hard to reach. Finally, our waiter claimed (no idea whether this is true) that they had no more kitchen staff, the owner was cooking all the food, and the restaurant was due to close in the next few days. That was in late December 2025, so if Kitchen 5315 is still open in 2026, save yourself the misery and avoid this restaurant!

But surely edible and nicely cooked noodles. The pork belly was ok but not slap your momma I'll go back for that good. The Mac salad was awful compared to much more affordable plate lunch places. I think that these exceptionally high prices for basic dishes and burgers (she asked why would people go to a Filipino restaurant and order a burger) are why not many locals eat here. And frankly most aunties make better Filipino food better at home. Glad we tried but not again. Checked off of our try try list. They didn't even have a signature dish available that we went particularly to get.
