Most overpriced restaurant in Hawaii for the food you get. (And we have been to all the best restaurants on the islands.) Had the short rib for $67 and it was a chunk of 90% fat with three 1" diameter "puffs" of whipped potato (3 bites) and three tiny stalks of broccolini (3 bites). My husband I shared the $17 coconut tart which was 3 bites each. What a horrible disappointment. read more

Tropical (pineapple, papaya, lilikoi, banana, orange) - Mmmmm Baked Cinnamon Roll - DELICIOUS, by far my favorite cinnamon roll ever. Perfect texture between the softness on the inside & toasty part on the edge. Warm cream cheese (frosting) was on the side, which is great so one can adjust the sweetness. Papayas with Lime - refreshing light starter Pitaya Bowl (dragon fruit, strawberries, toasted coconut, granola) - perfect for a warm day, beautiful presentation Hawaiian French Toast (banana, rum caramel, candies pecans) - it was a bit too sweet for my taste, even without the syrup. The bananas mellowed out the sweetness. Good wine selection. Here are something weird- you pay extra for bread service, but they didn't even bring enough pieces of bread for our whole party of 8. We had to split up pieces of bread- which is really strange for a nice meal. The prices are high, so you expect an elevated menu. There were some things that were good- the lobster mac and cheese, the salads and were lovely. My husband's ribeye with au poivre sauce was fantastic! The filet steak was great. But some of the other items were just good, but not great. The fish of the moment was not seasoned well (and no salt at the table) and there was no sauce that came with it to jazz it up. The shrimp and fish entree was good- but the shrimp were not great. What saved this dish was the green curry sauce that came on the side. Came for brunch after snorkeling in Kapalua Bay. The restaurant was nearly empty at 11am and I had zero expectations because the prior yelp reviews were mediocre at best. That said, we were seated at the table with the best view and the tranquility of the quiet resort was sooo nice. What was even more surprising was how delicious my lobster Benedict was. The location was quite nice and servers were friendly enough Mocktails/cocktails were average. Food was unfortunately quite poor. Appetizers were nothing special and the kids didn't even like the the Mac and cheese . Fish of the day was over cooked, dry and flavorless - the 4 people that ordered it didn't finish theirs. The wagyu beef was over seasoned and nothing like the equivalent cut you get in other cities in the states. My experience with Cane & Canoe so far has been really incredible. I am hesitant to give out 5 star ratings on Yelp, but Cane & Canoe definitely deserves this high rating. We flew in to Maui last night and after a long flight and not so great airplane food, the two course prix fix was incredible and much appreciated. They started us off with a spoonful of tomato gazpacho, which was very refreshing and had a great taste. For my first course, I ordered a Caesar Salad. This is easily one of the best Caesar Salads I have had in my life. The lettuce was very crunchy and fresh tasting. They used a perfect amount of dressing, not too little, but not too much. I love the mini baguettes as croutons, and the Parmesan crisps make it automatically better. This salad had anchovies, which I am not the biggest fan of, but they gave a good amount. My main course was the Kona Kanpachi and Kauai Shrimp. Hands down one of the best dishes I've had in awhile. The star of the show was the fish. It had the most perfect crispy skin and it was cooked perfectly, like it melted in your mouth almost. The shrimp was good, but nothing compared to the fish. The green sauce was actually a curry-like sauce and it was SO GOOD. It went so well with the fish and the rice. To finish it off, we were too full to order dessert, but they brought us over tiramisu truffles, which were so rich and had a hint of coffee taste. We also came the following morning for breakfast. There were so many different options. I didn't take any pictures, but my family ordered the green smoothie, the tofu scramble, eggs two ways, and eggs Benedict. They were all incredible and we were thoroughly satisfied. A pre-breakfast appetizer were these banana bread muffins, which were extremely tasty and had a good texture. I do want to mention that this place is a bit pricey. However, the food tastes wonderful and the portions were very generous. If you're staying on site, it's an extremely convenient location, just steps from where you are staying. The view was great and service was relatively quick. Went here for my wife's birthday. The view was incredible. The food was second to none. We've eaten at many high end places over the years, and I've gotta say, Our server Vai, was probably the best server we've ever had. He was very efficient with our orders and was very knowledgeable when it came to food and our wine. He had the best attitude and personality. He really made us feel like family. My favorite restaurant! In HI....Great service and ambiance. We started out with shrimp cocktail that was incredibly fresh and big. The variety of bread they bring you I can make a meal out of that alone! Only complaint was two people at the table wanted the ribeye and they were out. I had the filet and it was very flavorful. Broccolini was prepared very well and one friend had the hassle back potato and wow did it look amazing (a meal on its own) give me the bread, broccolini and huge loaded baked potato and I'd be happy! My husband and one friend both ordered the steak medium rare. Our friend's steak came our perfectly, but my husband's was definitely well done. He mentioned it to our server and she came back a little bit later with a new one, this one barely cooked. At that point the rest of us were basically finished with our entrees so he just ate it.The presentation of the second steak was very minimal - normally a restaurant of this calibre will do a better job even on the second plate. We both walked out of there enjoying the evening - we were with friends, had a very delicious mai tai and wine with dinner and the dessert was good. We were sincerely excited about the prospects of dinner at this Maui landmark (though it was quite a drive from our homebase in Kihei) . Sadly, I've never been so disappointed! The pros: the hotel was elegant and classic Hawaiian. The atmosphere is nice with open air dining. The staff was friendly. My husband absolutely loved the Caesar salad saying it was the best he's ever had. The cons: We sat at the table for a good 15 minutes prior to being approached by the waitress (and the restaurant was not really busy though it was 7:30 on a Saturday night. This should've been our first clue...). My mai tai was average - a little overly sweet. I ordered French onion soup (which was pretty good) to start. Then the 7oz fillet ($72) to be cooked medium. Unfortunately, it was delivered undisputedly well-done. I had to seek the waitress out to report the error as she did not check back to make sure we were satisfied with what was delivered. By the time my meal was re-delivered back to me, the other three guests were completely done with their meal, and their plates had been cleared. To give the devil his dues, the steak was cooked properly the second go around - though the texture and flavor were both very average. Surprisingly, we were never approached by the manager about the quality of our meal (which came in right at $500 for 4 of us) nor were we offered even so much as a dessert to make up for the disastrous meal, let alone a comp for my steak. Afterwards, the other three guest with me rated their overall experience as "OK". Overall, I can not recommend this restaurant. For a good steak on Maui, you are better off going to Ruth's Chris or Duo. Merrimans right down the road is also a much better option. read more

We had a great dinner at this restaurant. It is located at a resort so the signage was not very clear, but we found it without too much of a problem. Usually restaurants in resort hotels are just okay, but Cane & Canoe was very, very good. On the plus side, the resort didn't appear to have many guests, so the grounds were quiet and tranquil. The dinning room is open air, so if you don't like excessive air conditioning, this is for you. I usually do not eat much fish unless I know its fresh, so I always over-do it in Hawaii. The fish was some of the best I had on our vacation. When we return to Maui, this will be on our list to return to. And the view is amazing, so plan your reservations for 30 minutes before sundown. read more

My husband and I attended an event here out on the patio of Cane & Canoe. With live music playing in the background and comfy chairs, the outdoor patio area is the perfect setting to hang out, have a few drinks, and mingle with the crowd. The evening consisted of us steadily working our way through bites of delicious pupus & the occasional libation. We had the surfing goat cheese tempura, kauai shrimp & grits, ahi sashimi, lamb chops/lollipops, & chicken (curry, maybe?). The goat cheese tempura and shrimp & grits were my favorites of the night! Also, I don't normally like lamb or anything undercooked, but I decided to be adventurous and I have no regrets. The lamb was perfectly tender and seasoned to perfection! I was really pleasantly surprised that I liked it so much. Definitely do give it a try! They are running a great special right now for the whole month of July -- purchase one entree and receive the second one complimentary from 5pm to 6pm daily.
