Had a great experience at Tajima Ramen Maui in Kihei -- this place lives up to the hype! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is casual and welcoming, with a fun mix of modern décor and Japanese (lots of anime/manga) touches that make it feel like a cozy ramen hideaway. The staff were friendly, fast and attentive, which always helps elevate the meal. Their signature tonkotsu broth is rich, creamy, and packed with umami -- you can tell it's been simmered with care. Hubs ordered the White Ramen and it was perfectly balanced with tender chashu, a soft-boiled egg, and fresh greens -- all the ramen classics done right. The Black Ramen with burnt garlic oil was another standout, bold and flavorful without being overwhelming. We also sampled the toro-taku maki (fresh), then the takoyaki and karaage off the happy hour menu-- both crispy and well-seasoned -- and might i say-- it was great to have a Happy Hour menu with tasty bites to start. Atmosphere was casual and fun without being loud. Great spot for lunch or dinner -- locals and visitors coming and going. Tajima Ramen Noodle hits on all cylinders -- service, food quality, and cleanliness. We stopped in for lunch and were seated immediately, which set the tone for a great experience. Looking for legit Ramen in South Kihei? Head to Tajima for a yummy selection of Ramen, more recently Sushi, and Curry/Rice Bowls. Went with some friends today and they offer Lunch Combo Meals. Our table got the Carnitas Ramen with a Mini Chashu Bowl (the cutest little bowl ever!), Tajima White Ramen is a classic with bok choy, egg, and corn and I tried something new, Gyokai Tonkotsu Tsukemen (dipping ramen). It had this nice balance of pork bone broth with the yuzu. If you love gyoza, theirs is a nice balance of crispy bottom to steamed wrapper. My friend and I enjoyed a refreshing White Peach Oolong Tea and a Strawberry Matcha Refresher. This is actually delicious for vegetarians! I've been trying all the spots with good vegetarian/vegan options and by far this is the best tofu. We had the tofu fried rice and the vegetable ramen. We unexpectedly dropped by here for our last dinner in Maui on the recommendation of our uber driver who was also a local. Needless to say, we were blown away!!! Tajima is an underrated, quaint spot in Kihei serving up delicious hot bowls of ramen with the softest chashu I've ever had!! The meat literally fell apart as we picked it up with our chopsticks. Wow so amazed by this restaurant! We got there around 4:30 on a Sunday, and service was remarkably quick. Our waitress was so kind and brought a plastic bowl and utensils for our toddler. Very clean and neat inside. The cleanest booster seat I've seen at a restaurant haha. The white ramen was so so tasty and true to Japanese ramen. They gave a very generous, melt in your mouth piece of pork belly. The broth was creamy and rich, not overly salty. We also got karage, which was crispy yet juicy inside. The gyoza was pretty standard and yummy, and the takoyaki were also flavorful! We loved everything we ordered, and when we left we saw ramen noodles being made fresh from a machine! I think this is one of the best ramen spots on Maui. My family has made this our regular ramen spot. The White, Red, and Black ramen's are all excellent. With the Red Ramen being my personal go to. We had a party of six and we all loved the Ramen! What can I say, I was surprised to find this place in a strip mall area in Maui. First of all, I was impressed by the large Japanese whiskey choices. Everyone had a different ramen and all of the broths were savory, delicious, and the pork they used in the ramen was exceptionally flavorful, thick, and melted in your mouth. We were looking for Japanese food and Yelp led us here. It's located in Kihei near Cool Cat Cafe. It's been open since June 2024. They just got their liquor license and they will start serving sushi soon. The restaurant is bright and clean with anime decorations. Seating includes five 4-seat tables, ten 2-seat tables, and six bar seats. The tables can be pushed together for larger parties. They have a regular menu and seasonal specials. We ordered the curry tonkotsu ramen, pork tonkatsu special, Uji Matcha green tea, and the melon cream soda. The tea was really refreshing and the melon soda was creamy and perfect! The ramen was spicy and included lots of toppings. The tonkatsu was a bit over cooked but really crispy. It was actually a side item so we ordered rice on the side. The service is fast and friendly. Located inside the Kihei shopping center, right next to the Coldwell Banker offices. It's a small place, about 8ish tables and it looked like a few bar-style seats. Service was great and attentive. They greet everyone that comes in aloud, which we've come to find is very common in similar cuisine restaurants. Menu is simple and solid. Appetizer options are expected, edamame, gyoza, etc. The server did suggest the black ramen and when it was brought to the table next to us, it looked great! We opted for the white ramen (because I couldn't make the spicy one less spicy, so white ramen with a side of the spice paste was the best option to control heat) and the curry ramen. Plus shrimp fried rice. Both were solid! The only downside was the white ramen was more simple and it didn't have mushrooms in it. My brother and sister love coming to Tajima when they come to Maui, and I finally made the trek from NYC to Maui and had to come with them to the ramen spot they have hyped up over the past few years! I ordered the Tajima Black Ramen and it did not disappoint! The both was so flavorful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. I added on Fried Garlic ($1.50) and the Braised Takenoko ($1.50 - bamboo shoot). The takenoko was hard to eat and very fibrous that it got stuck in between my teeth. The Fried Garlic added a nice crunch and flavor to each bite. The decor inside was also cool and retro - loved the art around the restaurant, the manga wallpaper in the bathroom and the figurines along the main bar. Solid!!! Party of 4 and every one was happy. Spicy sesame ramen was pretty close to perfect. Good heat, chock full of ground pork, curn, bok choy, wood eared mushrooms, and 1/2 egg. Also had the garlic edamame which was very tasty and served hot. 2 others had the gyu don and when it was served, you could tell by the smell it was going to be good! Service was great and there's plenty of seating and ample parking which is a plus in Kihei. All the noodles are home made onsight as well as the broth for all the ramen. It's BYOB for the time being. Tajima Ramen was founded in 2001 in San Diego, CA. This is their sole Hawai'i location. ATMOSPHERE: Located in Kukui Mall, they've taken over the former Thailand Cuisine spot. Counter and plenty of low top seating, in a modern and bright design. An open-view room off to the side proudly displays a processing machine for their homemade noodles, though it wasn't in action during our dining. MENU: Izakaya-style apps, ramen in two broths, rice bowls and desserts. BYOB. FOOD: Takoyaki (8 pcs.) Of the two pieces I had, one had the tiniest piece of octopus inside while the other had nothing. The majority of the insides were a pasty fish cake-like filling that seemed to be underdone. Gyoza (6 pcs.) Though not the thickest of dumplings, they had a good sear to the skins and moisture-rich filling. Pork Chashu Fried Rice This recipe is definitely in my top 5 of best fried rice dishes. Crazy flavorful with savory bits of chashu, frozen mixed veggies that worked and silky rice. Highly recommended. Tajima Black Served piping hot, the creamy broth had a flat taste, with the burnt garlic oil not adding any enhancement. I almost nixed the corn but glad I didn't as they were sinfully buttery. The thickest chashu ever to don a bowl was also flavorless, but the half gooey egg was the best of any ramen shop on Maui. Lastly, the thin "HM", or homemade noodles, I'm guessing, not my favorite as they lacked that eggy flavor I crave. The spouse and I call these kind of noodles "spaghetti" due to their similar flavor profile. SERVICE: Immediate and welcoming greeting (and farewell). Saimen choices were enjoyed by my friends, thought they were excellent, but Tajima make their own noodles and they use wheat so I can't eat that. My gluten free option is rice so I had the chicken teriyaki bowl which was very good. Service attentive and responsive to questions. My husband and I went to Tajima Ramen on Friday night around 7 PM. It was really busy, but the restaurant was clean, and the music made for a fun atmosphere. Our waitress was super accommodating when I asked for a bigger table, which was nice. We ordered the Katsu Bun, Gyoza, Tebasaki Wings, Carnitas Ramen, and Spicy Sesame Ramen. Everything was good! The Katsu Bun was my favorite--so tasty. The wings had great flavor, though I thought they were a bit too breaded. My Carnitas Ramen was really good, but the flavor was lighter compared to my husband's Spicy Sesame Ramen, which was bold and rich (though I did notice a pork smell in his broth that I'm not a fan of). Unfortunately, my ramen came out about 10-15 minutes after my husband's, but they comped our dessert, which made up for it. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back! read more

Note that the menu also offers carnitas ramen, which showcases the Mexican dish of slow-cooked, seasoned, shredded pork. As the restaurant locations are in San Diego and Tijuana, this appeals to those that live in this area. You can order from the happy hour menu daily from 2p to 5p. Staff was super-efficient, very accommodating, and friendly. As we came for an early dinner at 5p, there was only one other family there, as we understand that it gets busy much later. Our orders were promptly served, water glasses refilled often, were checked frequently if we needed anything else, and payment processed when requested. The restaurant interior is very spacious, clean, and bright. Very tasteful Japanese décor that makes you feel that you're in Japan. Japanese pop music, although a little loud, is playing in the background. Large groups are welcomed, as tables can be pushed together. Hours of operation are from Mon to Fri 11a to 2p for lunch, and 5p to 10p for dinner; Sat & Sun 11a to 10p. Located in Kukui Mall in Kihei with nearby businesses of Cool Cat Café and Maui Sweet Shoppe, there is ample parking in the private lot that is shared with other businesses. Note that a 4% kitchen fee is charged, which I have strong opinions of this principle and will not digress from this review to discuss it. Also, a 20% service charge is added for parties of more than 6 people. Tajima Ramen also has a popular sister restaurant, Izakaya Genbe, also located in Kihei in the Azeka Shopping Center. What a great find in a ramen restaurant and perhaps the best in Maui, in my opinion. It's a fine place for locals and tourists alike, as we enjoyed our dining experience there. After continously seeing this place across social media, I finally got to try it! I went with my parents & between us we went with the black & white ramens. The black ramen had a more subtle flavor, but the garlic flavor was prevalent, which I liked. The white broth seemed stronger, even though I think the base of both were the same. Both were very much so strong umami flavor. Can't beat the freshly made noodles! It also comes with thick piece of pork. Service was great & place was nice & clean. This was our second time eating here. The first time was good and the service is always great. However, this 2nd time, we left very unhappy. The ramen was OK. The sushi was terrible. It had brown rice (this is not mentioned on the menu). I attached a picture of how the roll is presented on the doordash menu. Our roll that we received looked nothing like it and didn't even have unagi sauce. The chicken katsu bao bun is literally a piece of chicken katsu and yellow mustard.
