Miso soup - good, nice serving, nothing to write home about Spicy Tuna Sushi rolls - no spice whatsoever which was a huge disappointment. Tuna was a little "fishy" so not sure how fresh it was. So. Much. Food. Normally we (my husband and I) order 4 rolls to share. Im not sure if we were both just not as hungry as normal or what - half the rolls came home with us. The volcano roll was especially amazing - presentation and flavor. Service was super quick, very polite and efficient. Location is adorable with less than 6 tables and 4 bar stools. Definitely glad we got here when we did. Open air - technically would qualify as outdoor seating. Our 15 year anniversary and we didn't know where to go. We stopped by a different sushi place about 15-20 mins away from here and it was an hour wait. Honestly, we were all so happy it worked out that way. They were such kind people at this place. There was a cool little outdoor seating area they sat us in. It was a nice large table which was perfect cause we ordered quite a bit of food. We ordered edamame, the sashimi deluxe platter, spicy tuna hand roll, salmon hand roll, Cali roll, and a crunch roll (I think a few other things also, but that's I recall, lol. The food came out pretty quick, which was awesome cause we were all really hungry. Food was fresh and tasty. They brought everything out in portions so it doesn't flood the table. We enjoyed every little bit of it. Service was great also! Literally service with a smile. The chefs to the host to the waitresses all were smiling and so happy. I totally recommend this place. Lahaina Sushu Ko is excellent. We haven't been back in Maui since COVID19 pandemic hit. Our most recent Sushi Ko dinner was in Thanksgiving week 2019. Given our numerous previous experiences we choose to grab a "to go" meal for our group of 4. We ordered our favorites from previous Yelp postings. Bottom line even through this is a petite Cafe tucked off Front Street, it's service, sushi is exceptional. As "Sushi Snobs" from San Francisco we KNOW great Sushi. This was the first day Sushi Ko was opened in 8 months and we expected and accepted some delays. However, as I fetched our car down by the Banyan Tree a few blocks away our teenage son delt with a rude women customer who was yelling and screaming at the servers and staff. After she dropped the $@%@^@ bomb numerous times he told her to "chill lady you are in Maui" he then verbally attacked him and others. Another couple tried to calm the young lady down. Needless to say, my son was very upset and want us to give beyond our 20% tips given our server "Cookie" had taken so much abuse. We did. Sushi-ko is slightly tucked away inside the Laihaina strip and not directly part of the bayside frontage. The space is technically outdoors but well covered and comfortable. There are no reservations you can make from Sushi-ko and seating is relatively limited due to the small space (+ COVID). We were able to grab the last seats on our walk-in ~6:00pm but would have a Plan B if you plan on showing by later in the evening. The fish and sushi itself is very good - fresh and soft. Instead of ordering by the piece, we opted for the Sashimi Platter which also had a great bang-for-the-buck ($30 for 50 pieces). To add some savory warmth and a bit of rice, we opted for two of the Unagi Hand rolls which did not disappoint - the Unagi was richly savory. There are a mix of parking spots (free public, paid private) - at the time there was a $5 and $10 lot adjacent to the restaurant. read more

Friendly staff and no wait, we sat at the bar and watched the magic happen. Sake to start, we chose an unfiltered Nigori, Sho Chiku Bai. After perusing the menu we chose a couple rolls and six nigiri. The yellowtail and salmon nigiri were uber fresh and melted in your mouth. We also enjoyed the yellow dragon roll made with shrimp tempura, avocado, cream cheese topped with fresh salmon and salmon roe. Snow White was our last roll, shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado topped with white tuna and tobiko. Very nice presentations and quality food. This is my favorite sushi spot in Lahaina. The food is very fresh, and is the definition of great veg sushi! I got an Inari, veggie roll, and a avocado roll veggie hand roll. I've been here in the past when I are fish, and can tell you the fish items here are great as well- and though most most people will probably get fish sushi, but I came here to say that the veggie sushi here hits the spot too! Located in the middle of an outdoor mall, there's not much privacy but it is pretty cute. Not a lot of seating, maybe around 4 tables for four and a bar top. We walked in on Friday night about 8:00 and waited 5 minutes for a table. It was explained that alcohol can only be served in the patio but not inside, despite there not being any real physical divider between the two. No problem for us, though. The two ladies were working hard but very efficiently. I've learned that when you smile and are pleasant you will usually receive the same in return. We ordered a caterpillar roll and the chirashi bowl (by which I judge Japanese raw fish restaurants). The food was served fairly quickly. The fish was fresh and well presented, the roll was pleasant to look at and tasted very good. I found the sushi rice to be a bit off in flavor. That might be attributed to a vinegar different than what I'm accustomed. Not a deal breaker. I will have no problem returning to this restaurant. read more

While strolling around old Lahaina we came across this spot in a secluded alcove, the smell of sushi rice and tempura wafting out to the street. It's a very charming place, basically a small counter with a handful of tables. They are open for late lunch and dinner. Expect a short wait. They were busy the whole night and keep a small staff. We put our name in and went and got a scoop of ice cream just down the street while we waited. They will call you when your table is ready. I would recommend going with 4 or less people in your party but they can accommodate a larger party as well. We ordered a few rolls and some nigiri. The fish was super fresh and soft. Pieces were large. The rolls here are massive and easy to share. I recommend the Spider roll and the SushiKo roll. read more

I tried to drag out the tasting with each sumptuous peace, my favorite plate of 2020. Also ordered: a spicy tuna roll and a Hawaiian spicy roll with jalapeño -both were fantastic and highly recommendable too. I could taste the spice, the sauce - and more importantly, the fish. At a previous location on this trip, I ordered a plate which was warm, colorful, elaborate but out of sync. The chef here clearly knows how to bring all of this complexity together and make it appear extremely simple. A bowl of miso with simple yet full of flavor and vegan; the inuri [tofu-style sushi] with something I have never seen before the really enjoyed. A salad of avocado and ginger sauce and sesame seeds, straightforward ingredients but holy nutritious and flavorsome.
