Another amazing bento special! Somen salad, California roll, shrimp tempura, calamari katsu, spring roll, and sushi.

Food was great! If you dine in on the left side, it's a bit warm. We were only checking in on once by our waitress. She sat us down, took our order then came back at the end when we were done eating. We ordered the combo A, katsu don, soft shell sushi roll and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was great! Especially the salted cabbage as your side. We'll definitely be back.

Finally dined in Restaurant Matsu. Local spot for bentos, plate lunches, and sushi. Usually seems to be busy for dine in and take out. Expect wait times but food comes out delicious! We have gotten fried chicken, teriyaki salmon, unagi don, ramen broth, and sushi. They have more options to choose from the menu. Warm and inviting atmosphere!

Matsu never disappoints! Great food! My favorite place to get Japanese food. Consistent and full of flavor

A good comfort food spot, the food/service is decent, but not as great as I expected. The staff is very friendly, but I wish they could clean up and organize the place a little better.

Landed from the airport and went straight here for a ma and pa meal! The food was okay. I noticed that their rolls were mostly rice rather than protein and one of my rolls was just drenched in spicy mayo. I wouldn't recommend a sushi fix here, but the cooked food options are made with love! The bento special was pretty good for the price. The chicken curry katsu was very crunchy and I enjoyed the curry taste without all the extra seasoning and salt. Service is really friendly and sweet! Ambiance is very cozy. I notice a lot of locals come eat here and most of them order soups. Maybe I'll come back for a warm bowl of ramen :)

My GMAs favorite for Japanese food and now my favorite too! Staff was so kind and friendly. We ordered some sushi tonkatsu gyoza and more... it tastes so good!!!! Will always be coming back to this place! Only downside is be careful of the table. You will hit your knee when trying to get up from it.

My favorite restaurant find for this trip. Will not forget this one.

After not eating at Matsu for about 5 years, I decided to come back. We are so happy that we did. The chicken karaage was delicious, cooked exactly the way I like it, plus potato salad that was excellent. My wife had beef tofu, which she loved. The nice thing about this place is the prices are very reasonable, as well as a smaller portion. I don't need the extra large portions. The customer service is great with Carl and Annie. This place is the best.

Yum yum yum. You want local food that's been around and knows what they are doing? Try here! There's parking in the front and back of the restaurant. Open seating or take out options. If you are doing take out, I recommend placing a phone order. My mom and I like to come here. It's convenient and the variety of food is awesome! You want sushi? Or Teishoku style? Or just some local food? Up to you! Try this place out. Order at the register and sit to eat. Easy!

This was a Bento box sold in a cute paper and plastic line. Bento box might be fun for kids, birthday lunch

We got there right after opening and there were a handful of diners seated ahead of us and no wait. My perception was that it's a mom running it with her sons but I could be totally off here. The food is incredible, tasty, hot, flavorful and even customizable. And WOW IT IS GOOD! UMAMI the food is so perfectly crafted together. I had a spicy soup no egg, my husband a customized ramen, and my best friend had something or other. Pork bun was nice and I enjoyed the mayo ratio. Gyoza? So, last week we wondered what became of The Ichiban and so we just went by to see what was happening. To our surprise, the former owner's daughter decided to try her hand at running the restaurant. Yesterday evening, we had dinner at the Ichiban. We were not disappointed. Mary had the Special A teishoku, while I had the pork katsu entree. The tempura and katsu were cooked to perfection (not greasy at all). The portions were so huge that we had more than enough food for a dinner at home the next night. As we understand it, the Ichiban serves dinners on Wednesday and Thursday nights, and sushi on Friday and Saturday nights. Whether you like a teishoku, bento style dinner or sushi, the Ichiban is a nice, laid-back affordable restaurant in Kahului for everyone.

I wanted my steak Medium Well and it was perfectly done and the teriyaki sauce was a good balance of tangy and sweet. Pour a few drops of Shoyu on the Sashimi and dip it in the Hot Mustard sauce in the middle of the tray. The star of my tray is the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. They fillet the shrimp so it was a HUGE shrimp tempura piece along with strands of carrots in tempura batter, tempura asparagus and a tempura eggplant. It was so crispy and tasty. I've been to Japan and this is Japan level tempura and the best on Maui, hands down.
