So I was trying to decide between this place and Miso Phat, and somehow decided to give this place a shot. What drew me in was pictures of the uni which looked super good and overall reasonable prices. Uni was fresh enough but just lacked that bright brininess that I was hoping for. It just tasted kinda bland. I wanted to order the Aloha roll which was supposed to be albacore outside, spicy tuna inside. But they were out of albacore, so I had them make the seared tuna roll with seared ahi outside and subbed spicy tuna inside (normally has imitation crab which I don't care for) which they upcharged me for. On a side note--a lot of their specialty rolls have imitation crab which is kinda weak in my opinion. Anyway I guess the upcharge would have been okay but the rolls were super small! I have never had rolls this small before. I had to order another roll, to get somewhat full. I probably could have had a 3rd roll without getting super full but I didn't want to throw good money after bad. They should call this place Miso Phit, because there rolls are super thin! read more

A co-worker and I were talking about our favorite Sushi places today and they recommended M Sushi. I have been meaning to try it and have heard good things from a few people. I could see how the location and vibe would seem a little "sketchy" to some. It's definitely not a pretentious LA style joint. But I personally prefer quality and experience over status and esthetics. There's lots of parking right out front. We walked in around 6:30 with no reservations. We were greeted and told we could sit anywhere. It is BYOB. There is a liquor store across the street and a gas station not too far away that you can stop at. We ordered a few things and it all came out quickly and was so good!!!! I don't know how I've never been here before and I was really glad we got to check it out. We'll definitely be back. My husband and I decided to have dinner at M Sushi before attending a show at the MACC. Upon arrival, we noticed only two other parties dining, so we were seated promptly. The sushi was reasonably priced, of good quality, and the service was quick. The interior was a bit dark for my taste, but it didn't bother us much. We ordered the hamachi carpaccio, which we absolutely loved; it was well-balanced, and the jalapeños added a nice touch. I also tried the ankimo, which wasn't what I expected and would not order again, and their omakase. My husband wished they served alcohol or beer, but other than that, we had no complaints. The variety of traditional sashimi, maki and nigiri are similar to other sushi restaurants, but they also have some unique rolls - some that don't have rice! Luckily, we were able to get a table without any wait as walk-in. This is truly a hole in the wall located in a basement right next to the parking garage. The interior was dark and a bit dated. As there was only one waitress and one sushi chef, everything took a long time and required a lot of patience and waiting. As for the food, everything was ok but nothing to write home about. There's plenty of sushi restaurants on-par, if not better in the Bay Area. Thus, if you are a tourist with precious meal quotas, I'd recommend skipping this restaurant. Highly recommend this place on Maui! So impressed at the sushi here! We were at home hungry but didn't want anything too heavy for dinner (since Thanksgiving just passed). Looked on Yelp and saw that they were open and decided to check it out on a whim. We called just in case it was super busy at around 8pm. She said there were seats, so we left the house right away! It wasn't too crowded at this time (8pm) on a Saturday, which we were grateful for. Parking is right outside of the restaurant in the "garage". Got seated right away. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share. Marilyn Mon Roll special roll (cute name I know!), seared tuna garlic roll, hamachi Kama, and omakase sushi. All of which were super good. The fish was fresh. First time at M Sushi and wow... I am speechless. This hidden gem is tucked away in Wailuku on Lower Main Street. The restaurant is clean and the ambiance is very welcoming and cozy. My friend and I chose to sit at the sushi bar, but let me tell you... the counter space for this sushi bar was HUGE (pictured below). So much space! It was amazing. We had front row seats to watch our sushi being made and we had extra space for a comfortable eating situation. We ordered the sushi omakase and it came with 12 pieces for $50. $50 for omakase?! That is unheard of and M SUSHI delivered that. Usually omakase can range from $150-$300. The omakase was comprised of 12 different pieces of sushi and all were so flavorful, soft, fresh, and it truly melts in your mouth. Not only was the food amazing, but the service was even better. The food was amazing probably one of the best garlic salmon rolls I've have thus far. The service is amazing as well very attentive and accommodating as well. The otoro was really fresh and the ama ebi was soo sweet and delicious. The prices were great as well. One person from our group is allergic to shellfish and they were able to modify the rolls to substitute the California filling for spicy ahi instead. Terrible! Service is so slow. Cleanliness 0 and prices are crazy. Had reservations for 715. Got seated right away but no one came to take our order for 15 minutes. Then we noticed there was only the chef and one server. She came to check our vax cards then left. Took another 15 minutes for her to actually take our order. When she finally came back one of our friends ordered edamame. The server came back with and an empty bowl. She looked at the bowl and freaked out. There was something growing in the bowl! It looked like a dirty bowl with spider eggs or something growing in it. Disgusting! She told the server, she apologized, rinsed it and brought it right back. And it was still all wet! My sushi roll was ok. Honestly my appetite left when I saw that gross bowl. And the crazy thing was they didn't even remove the edamame from the bill! We'll never come here again. An impromptu dinner date while the little went to the trampoline park. It's been awhile since we had sushi and we decided M it is. We hit jackpot that the sushi bar area was open and grabbed two seats and immediately ordered two nigiri sets of uni and bluefin toro. We also order a rainbow roll and waited while we sipped from with our yeti filled refreshments (it's a BYOB establishment). It was a short wait and our order was handed over by the sushi chef. OISHI!!! That uni was buttery and ohhhhh the toro just melts in the mouth. The rainbow roll was classic and well made. It definitely did not disappoint. We realized we were really hungry and ordered two more rolls: Salmon skin and baked salmon. Once again, chef quickly made the rolls and hands over the salmon skin roll...I love salmon skin...at first glance one may think it's small. But I knew...this will be delish! Inside out rolls and that crispy skin, YUMMMMMMM!!!! My boyfriend looked at me and I just said, I'm so happy The chef then hands over the salmon baked roll with such a kind tone warning us that it's hot. And although he warned us and I could see the steam rising off of the roll..I wanted to devour a piece. I waited for a moment and finally gave in. That warm salmon with Mayo/unagi flavor the chef had to know we were extremely happy because we did not hold back our comments. You know food is good when you're dancing in your seat. We didn't stop dancing from the first set of sushi. We were getting full but I saw on the menu Japanese mackerel....I looked at the mister and said want some saba? We couldn't resist adding the last order to cap off our night and as I glanced up I saw the chef looking at me. I sheepishly say, "saba please". He just nodded and grinned. Within minutes a plate of two beautiful pieces of Saba was handed over to us. We both grabbed a piece and cheered our Saba and as it touched my palate I immediately let out a mmmmmmmm. The perfect balance of sweet , salt and vinegary cured mackerel that melted was theeeee perfect way to end the day. All for roughly $140 with tip, I have NO complaints. Service was superb and quick. Originally had my heart set on omakase at Koiso but reservations were booked out over a month(!) in advance so I was happy to find this lesser known locally recommended spot with a similar $45 omakase special. Highlights were the perfectly seared unagi, fatty bluefin toro, creamy butterfish and two cuts of melt-in-your-mouth hamachi. I'm a huge uni fan but was slightly disappointed that it was a bit too fishy, meaning likely not the freshest. All of the other pieces were excellent in terms of freshness and quality though, and I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of the chef's choices. This was the first omakase that I've had where everything was served all at once instead of being brought out piece by piece. It was kinda fun being able to select for ourselves the order in which we navigated the tray, but I would've appreciated knowing what each piece was as I was consuming it, something that I personally consider a vital part of the omakase experience. Overall solid sushi restaurant run by a mother-son duo with prompt service offering a lowkey, no frills omakase that's absolutely worth it for the price. read more

We have been wanting to try this sushi place foreverrrrrr but never seemed to get around to it. The YMCA had a parent night out thing from 4-7pm so we dropped our son off to have fun and make new friends and the better half and I went to eat sushi! So excited! We love to eat dinner early (if it's after 5, it's getting to be a little late for me) so since M Sushi opened at 5, can you guess where we were at 4:45?! Um yeah, in the parking lot, waiting for it to open. At 4:55, the OPEN light came on so my husband jumped out of the car was like "let's go!!". And I said "it's not 5 yet!". But he tried the door and it opened so we got an early start! Of course it was just us in this early and we got to choose any table we wanted. There's about six 4-tops, a 6-top, and about 9 seats at the sushi bar. I'm glad we came early because when we were leaving, 3 other tables were occupied. We ordered: Seared ahi garlic roll - DELICIOUS! And 10 pieces!! Garlic chips sprinkled all over the plate too, so yum! 911 roll - spicy and delicious, 10 pieces for this too. Not too much rice too which I like! There was also a spicy sauce on the plate you can drag your piece of sushi thru. Just what my hubby did lol. Superman handroll - no rice in this one but the soy paper is so soft and this roll is also...delicious! Spicy tuna roll - cannot go wrong with old faithful spicy tuna roll. Edamame - love my edamame! Butterfish - this was on the specials board and whenever I see butterfish anywhere, I have to order it, it's my favorite. Wasn't what I was expecting tho, it was like butterfish nigiri. Luckily my husband didn't want any because I really didn't want to share. The butterfish was small but it was melt in your mouth yummm. Japanese egg - this also wasn't what I was really expecting but it was still really good! We also were given Japanese cabbage, ginger, and wasabi. I loveeeee tuskemono and I whacked that pretty fast. My group of 4 arrived during peak dinner time and without reservations, we expected to wait. It was approximately a 30 minute wait at that time, however it was WORTH IT! FRESH sushi made to order at this family run restaurant. The casual yet trendy atmosphere set the mood for a fun time with friends. Our group's fave was definitely the hamachi and miso butterfish, SO ONO! "Aunty" as we lovingly called her was so attentive to our needs, despite the fact she is the only server around. I may have this opinion because I am used to more traditional Japanese sushi and in my opinion this sushi was more Americanized -- so please keep that in mind. The hamachi kama was great, but I would recommend nothing else of what we ordered. The hamachi carpaccio was okay but the orange zest threw me off in the flavors and I wasn't sure if I liked it and how it went with the fish. The seared tuna roll was wet as if there was water on the bottom of the plate before they plated the sushi, so that ruined the flavor for me -- mushy rice, yuck! The Marilyn mon roll did not have flavor and the soy paper was weird. The service was slow but one good thing is BYOB! I saw people even walking in with their coolers. The restaurant has a darker lighting ambiance -- a little hard to see more so for dates or intimate meals. read more

Even though we had reservations, we still had a short wait because that's how busy they are. To my understanding, the restaurant is ran by a mother and son duo. It's not the fastest service but it's friendly service. There is sushi counter seating and several tables to accommodate small to large groups. One thing I liked about how they spaced out the tables is that you've got ample space between them. Each order comes with two pieces and we made the mistake thinking it was one so we ordered too much sushi. It was a struggle to finish at the end...especially after countless sake shots.
