My wife doesn't enjoy sushi, but her baked fish was amazing and she was more than happy! Not pictured was a fresh, off menu roll I also enjoyed that was a daily special. Nico was attentive to guests needs and the service was very fast. Ambiance was overall laid back and inviting. The House Special (the one Guy Fieri put on the map) lives up to the hype -- bold, rich, and perfectly balanced. The TNT roll brought the heat in the best way, with crispy shrimp tempura and ahi poke on top that just worked. The Miso Phat Roll was a standout -- spicy tuna and cucumber inside, topped with broiled unagi, avocado, tobiko, and that sweet unagi sauce... every bite hit. The 007 Roll (their "secret" one) felt like a greatest-hits combo with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and avocado layered over a California roll -- super fresh and satisfying. The shrimp-topped spicy tuna roll was another win -- simple but done right. The poke (ahi + hamachi with spicy mayo and sriracha) was next level -- hot rice, cold fish, insanely fresh that melted in your mouth. That contrast in temperature and texture made it magical! Definitely coming back when back in Hawaii. A solid 5/5.

Best sushi of our sushi snob lives! Over the years, we've…read moreturned into Sushi snobs. Not only that, but we nearly always have to get the Omakase ("Leave it to the chef") wherever we go. Until we came to Oao, our favorite had been Nobu, down the road in Wailea. Well, I am here to tell you that, hands-down, there is a new gold medalist in town! The quality, presentation and taste--every single course--knocked it out of the ballpark! And, much to our surprise, the last Main course of Wagyu beef was a veritable grand slam! We came for the Sushi, but never in my life have i tasted such heavenly steak! The exceptionally aloha-friendly staff, such as Ronson and Iggy, were above and beyond helpful. Add to my snobbery my pallet for a good sake. Well, Iggy was able to steer me to an exceptionally perfect Daiginzo brew to complement our Omakase feast of the evening. Be sure to include an order of mussels, and you can't go wrong with anything Hamachi, such as the carpaccio. The atmosphere is somewhat traditional sushi bar, with an aloha flair. It is not very spacious, and will fill up in both guests and noise. Tune those out and you'll be fine. By the way, be sure to make reservations! A Word of warning, this is a sushi bar in the heart of Maui, and is it priced accordingly. That said, it is well, well worth the splurge!

BUT, seafood here is over the top, my wife had a white fish like ONO, but too long a name to spell. Over mashed potatoes and grilled veges Mine was Blackened and seared Ahi over sticky rice and asparagus spears. We both had a nice small Caesar. The sushi bar no longer is here. Completely removed and replaced with about a dozen or more tables for four. Really , if you want a treat at sunset , come here. Great service.

Walked in before 5:00pm with no reservation for a party of four. Well, that was a mistake. Despite idle wait staff and maybe only five occupied tables out of 20-30 total they made us wait for about a half hour. The reason was other people made reservations and were expected. When they finally sat our party the restaurant was still 2/3 empty. There was really no reason to keep us waiting that i could see. When you see someone in the party is disabled and using assistive devices you should be more accommodating. It kind of felt like we were being punished for not having a reservation. Also, expect a 3% service charge for the back of the house. Really, for the prices they charge for mahi fragments you could pay those people without a surcharge. Portions here are tiny. My mahi fragments were dry, over spiced and served with two unseasoned baby bok choi leaves and a slice of grilled tomato. For the price of almost $40.00. The beer was good and so was our server so they got one star for that. Otherwise, this place is touristy, overpriced and the maitre d' is slow on the uptake. Overall, there are plenty of great restaurants on Maui, recommend you try one of those.

Traditionally, sushi chef put soy sauce and wasabi in the between the fish and rice, and it's part of the flavor. I don't remember how it was done last time, but that was not the case this time. I had to awkwardly flip the nigiri pieces and dip the fish side in soy sauce, and then they fall apart. Ugh. Also, I didn't appreciate the size of the rice. It was impossible for me to eat the whole piece in one bite, but it's kind of rude not to under the traditional Japanese etiquette. The fish quality was.....okay. TBH, I had better in Sacramento/Roseville for way cheaper. I had more elegant, delicious, and satisfying omakase in San Diego, New York, Shanghai....you name it. For the price (even adjusted for the Maui premium) and the capability of the owners, I truly believe they could do better. Sending love!

We each ordered the Omakase Sushi "A", and because the meal was so good we ordered 2 more rolls to share -- the 6 piece California roll (with real crab), and the eel and cucumber roll served with warm, just cooked eel and a sweet eel sauce. Make a reservation by SMS text, with the number on their website. It's a small place, though a walk-in two-top was able to get a seat the Thursday night we were there around 7 or 8ish. We were also able to make day-of reservations a few hours before they opened for dinner service. I'd go again; and I'd also get their recommended two-bottled-beer drink again (a mix of a chocolatey dark malt with a dry light beer) -- I'm not a big beer fan or drinker in general and I found this very tasty with the meal.

We were just about to leave our resort when I put it in Google Maps, but AI said they may be closed! Checked my confirmation...no, date is correct. Called the restaurant, left a message. Googled it: which took me to their instagram page: they're closed for renovations from 2/15 through 3/4! Maybe the storms the previous week caused this? Instead, you show up for your $100/plate omakase (or, God forbid, $185 20-course dinner) and find out you can pair it "with anything from Long's Drugs next door." Or, hey, they have Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite. It might still have been worth it if the sushi were great, but it wasn't. It was pretty good -- better than most places -- but not great. There was nothing particulalry creative about the nigiri, and it wasnt technically outstanding, either - one of us found a scale and another a bone. It simply wasnt worth the price, even on Maui. We drove down from Kapalua to eat here: I would absolutely not do that again. Left feeling disappointed and mildly ripped off. Shout out to the single waitress who handled the entire front-of-house; she was working hard.
