My family friends brought me to Oku's for the first time and they were raving about its simplicity but quality. All 3 of us ordered something a bit different. My sushi loving friend ordered a few Nigiri and we shared the rolls. I didn't try the Tobiko and Uni Nigiri but it looked super fresh and my friend savored each piece! The Salmon Skin Roll was great and the Shrimp Tempura Roll is the BEST I've had on Maui hands down. It's not the typical Shrimp Tempura Roll I've gotten at most sushi restaurants. Chef put care into it. I mean crispy tempura shrimp but with lots of fresh cucumbers, carrots and sprouts. I'm not sure how they got that outer rice layer sealed and crispy but it was delicious! My friend got a Veggie Dynamite which I got to sample and it was creamy vegetable heaven lol! I sampled the mushrooms and onion and it was melt in your mouth. My Japanese Beef Curry was up there in quality like I had in Japan. I preferred this Japanese Style Gravy they served. There were big pieces of carrots and potato that I ended up slicing them smaller so I can enjoy each piece with my rice and beef. This was soul comforting Japanese Food! SO GOOD. My boyfriend and I loved this place. We had the baked california roll, unagi, and spicy tuna roll. The waiter was super nice and gave us great recommendations the food didn't take too long for it to come out. It was super nice being able to see the sushi being made near us. read more

Stopped in for lunch and waited about 10 minutes for a table. No reservations, walk- in only. No take-out orders. My favorite is the scallops dynamite- that sauce over rice- YUM! We also enjoyed the rainbow roll, unagi role, shrimp tempura roll, baked California roll, beef curry, unagu donburi, tako sunomono, and tako poke. It was plenty for the four of us and we took some of our sushi home. They have some new hot items since our last visit. Chicken cutlet with gravy and hurricane chicken. On our first visit, an elderly couple took care of us, and the experience genuinely made us feel like we were back in Japan--warm, attentive, and authentic. YES! YES! YES! Finally tried Oku's. So glad I did! The outside looks very simple. The inside is very simple. But the food was absolutely fresh, delectable and heavenly! The price is reasonable and the ambience, very comfortable. There are only 6 tables, and after treating the reviews, we came early at 3pm, so we didn't have to wait in line. And gladly, it wasn't busy at all!!! Perfect time for early dinner. Love love love the dynamite scallops, and ordered a second dish of combination dynamite (scallops and shrimp). Love sushi and have had some delicious sushi all over the world including Japan, and this was some of the freshest sushi I've ever had! Had nigiri (hotate, hamachi, and maguro) as well as the spicy yellowtail roll. All was super delicious and fresh. One of my kids got the Japanese chicken curry and loved it. Service was fast and friendly. They made sure our water glass was full. Just one server and one sushi chef but still got our food pretty quickly. Came on a Friday night around 3:45 and no issues getting a table. Clean and tidy space with room for maybe 16 people total plus I think some bar seats. Authentic sushi spot with a grandpa preparing your sushi and grandma taking orders. We didn't have to wait and they don't do takeout orders. We tried the oku special/ omakase which had large slices of sushi reasonably priced but don't expect toro or premium cuts. It was fresh. We also had the tako appetizer which was good to try. Worth the 45 minute drive in traffic from kaanapali beach. This hidden gem in a strip mall features lovingly hand-crafted sushi and Japanese specialties. The restaurant is tiny, with only 4 tables and a sushi bar, but was clean and felt authentically Japanese. The service was genuine and friendly. We went mid-afternoon for a late lunch around 3pm. Ummmm Wow. What a surprise. Let me start with a caveat. This is a tiny little hole in the wall. Absolutely not fancy. Like seriously, not fancy. There are three tables in the whole place and they decide when they stop serving. I think they usually want everybody gone around 8 PM. So go early. I do not believe they do take out. Here's why. It is run by a couple. And they are not young. But wow. The food is unbelievable. Looking at it, it's very unexpected. They turned away. A lot of people are over there. They simply wait on who they can handle and that's what they do. So if you are lucky enough to get in, you will not be disappointed. Definitely order the $39 8- piece sushi plate. Fantastic selection of raw sushi. If you prefer cooked options, one of their specialty items is the Dynamite scallops. It's a casserole style dish with a cream sauce. This would never be anything I would order but someone on our table did , and it was so fantastic that we ordered another plate for the table. All of the rolls were fantastic. Every single one.
