It has been several years since we ate here. Today, we met friends for lunch. As we entered, there were several local families and a group of older Korean women having lunch. It was a good sign that the food would be good. They used to have a huge menu of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean dishes. That menu has been scaled back significantly. We followed the recommendations of the friendly and courteous waitress and ordered the soon dubu tofu soup, regular size spicy squid, and L.A. kalbi. The menu is extensive with Korean & Chinese dishes. It's was $40+ for sweet & sour shrimp. The plate was ginormous. Could feed a group. The sauce was perfect. The shrimp were XL jumbo large with tail on. The breading was too thick it had wet doughy inside. If they used a smaller shrimp with tail off would have been much better taste wise & easier to eat. The food here is made family style so definitely a great to eat with a larger party. The combination plate I believe has 2 options and is available at lunch only. Sushi rolls also very large. The menu has korean, Chinese, Japanese and local. Something for everyone even the kids loved the chicken nuggets and french fries. The crispy pork was extra crispy just how I like it! The kimchi fried rice could have used some spice but it was still good. Sure it may have still came out on the sizzling plate, but it lacked flavor, was borderline raw and the portion size was 1/2 of what it used to be. Miko's is quite the hidden gem located next door to Sam Sato's (I pass it each time I check if Sam's is busy)! It has been YEARS since I last dined here and I am impressed with how much things changed. The parking lot was deceiving as it was PACKED, but upon entry, there were a few open tables. I was immediately greeted by a server who offered various options for my group (3 children & 6 adults) to dine. The staff assisted in arranging for a high chair and booster seats for the kids and immediately took our drink orders. Our server was busy with other tables (there were 3, no more than 4 employees working front of house), but he tended to our needs and responsive when we called for him between tables. Food and menu wise, I'm impressed with the wide variety of food and drink they had to offer. There really was something for everyone! I was surprised that they only had OJ or cranberry juice listed on the menu, however, when asked, our server was able to provide apple juice! Several food items were sold out, unfortunately (see tips below), but overall, we were able to get items we wanted. We ordered: shrimp fried rice, lemon chicken, gyoza, the boat, a sushi roll (can't recall, sorry!), and a noodle dish. Each were delicious, family style portions that filled us up! During our meal, we had the pleasure of experiencing a few birthdays! My group and I LOVED the celebration; the Happy Birthday song on speaker, tambourines, clapping, and dessert! We're definitely coming back to celebrate the next birthday! Tips from the manager: check out their Instagram, @_mikoscuisine ! Came here for a dinner date with my other half and we just love it here so much! It is tucked away in the industrial area of Wailuku and is for sure a true local spot for good eats at affordable prices. Their service is awesome, I always come here with my family and they're always welcoming and friendly. Their booths I feel are pretty small, four people to a booth is like the max to me before we run out of table space (either that or we just order way too much food). They start off with banchan, a couple of side dishes to get the palate going for what's to come! If you want more banchan they are more than happy to give you more if you ask. We started off with the gyoza which was good. 7/10 for me, it was hot, crunchy, and lots of pieces in one order. Then we got sushi, it was pretty big, good to share with two people. Sushi was a 8/10 for me. Their sizzling rib eye steak literally came out sizzling on a bed of veggies with a tomato on the side, 10/10 for me! Came here because it was recommended for sushi. We for sure wanted the boat because it was a variety. The chef choses the rolls and nigiri so if you are ok with random, get it. I honestly have no idea what rolls he gave us, wish they would say. I feel both of them were California rolls, 1 had chopped tuna on top and the other had unagi sauce. We really like the thick pieces of sashimi and the nigiri had a large piece of fish atop. We also ordered a bunch of other sides, we got soft shell crab (highly recommended) two other rolls and veggie and shrimp tempura. Ate here for the possibly 6th times already and tonight was the worst. To begin with , we had a good service and thought it would be for the whole entire night. We had 11 people , and they only gave us free two people worth of ban Chan. Which is ridiculous and unfair. I guess when they first started they needed to bring in more customers so they kept giving? Also their portions is not consistent . Some of the dishes is so small and some is like HUGE HUGE! Beware , the sweet and sour pork can feed 10 people. Customer service is bad, you can see there's favoritism. Shaking my head. No one came back to ask us how we're doing or even cared to serve everyone drinks. This past week while I was on Maui, I was gonna go to Sam Sato's for lunch, but when I got to Sam Sato's there was a long line outside of the restaurant, as folks were waiting outside to get a table inside of the restaurant. Since I was limited on time (some people gotta work Yo!) I proceeded to go with plan "B", which turned out to be - Miko's Cuisine (just next door from Sam Sato's). Miko's Cuisine appears to be some kinda restaurant / bar kinda place. The restaurant serves an array of foods like - Chinese, Korean, Japanese, & American fare. As I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted and seated in a booth. Menu & water was dropped off to me quickly and upon looking over the menu, I decided to get the "Fish & Chips" for lunch. With my Fish & Chips lunch, I received free "Ban-Chan" from the restaurant. My Ban-Chan consisted of taegu, potatoes, kim chee, choi sum, & bean sprouts. What can I say about the grub? The free Ban-Chan items was outstanding! I really love taegu, as a lot of Korean restaurants don't give out taegu anymore, as taegu is quite expensive. The other Ban-Chan items were fabulous, if you like Korean food..........the Ban-Chan items are pretty much your standard fare. As for the Fish & Chips...........my Fish & Chips plate came out piping hot. The crinkle fries were great, but my fish was kinda disappointing. I guess I was expecting the fish to be a little bigger & moist. What I got was just "oversized" fish sticks. Lol! The fish came with some kinda mustard mayo concoction to dip with..........I prefer malt vinegar, but I didn't see that they offered malt vinegar here. Service - Service was attentive, and I appreciate that my waitress took my order quickly, and got my food out quickly...........that way I could grub up, then hit the road again for work! Parking - Miko's has a private parking lot, so finding parking is not an issue. If for some reason the lot is full, there is available street parking. The day I came here, I had no issues finding parking. Overall, a good dining experience.........I think when you come here, you just gotta pick the right item to eat. I liked the service I received here, therefore the (4) star rating. Food wise, I'd probably about a (3.5). Still worth the trip to check this place out for some grindz! read more

I first visited Miko's when they had just opened and made another stop there shortly after that for a to-go order. This was 2 years ago, but never bothered to review. Why? Mainly because service wasn't all that great and it honestly wasn't worth writing about after it had left a bad taste in my mouth. Their menu was all over the place. Blacked out here, crossed out there, item not actually available... Yeah. Wasn't impressed. So here I am, 2 years later and finally gave them another shot after getting tired of the same ol' same ol' all the time. The restaurant was pretty empty when we walked in. One of the workers just pointed to a table where we could sit and our waiter came by shortly with menus. The menu has since been updated, but still extremely extensive. It makes me wonder how efficient/how fresh everything can truly be with SO many items on there. We stuck with Korean that evening and went with tteok guk (mochi soup) and kalbi jjim (braised short ribs). The kalbi jjim I've ordered on previous occasions and absolutely loved. This time it was still good, but not as tasty and tender as I remembered it to be. The tteok guk just tasted ok to me, but my husband seemed to like it. The banchan was just ok as well. I enjoyed the fishcake & the potatoes! The portions are still as generous as ever, as in huge! I kind of wish they would offer smaller portions for cheaper prices. We'd probably be more inclined to try more dishes. I knew beforehand how large the portions were so we stuck with 2 things. The food came out pretty quick and the service was better this time around. Not sure if we'll make it a regular stop, but overall, it was ok. Nothing really stuck out. Not great, but not bad. If you have a large group with varying tastes, this might be a good place to try as they have a little bit of everything (literally). read more

Decided to try the Love Boat for a family dinner. It's impressive and perfect for sharing with about 6 people. It includes shrimp and vegetable tempura, bulgogi, kalbi, bbq chicken, teriyaki salmon, California roll, and gyoza. Basically everyone's favorites! It comes with 2 bowls of rice but we also ordered fried rice and house noodles. Everything is served on a bed of lettuce and cabbage so we asked for some salad dressing to enjoy some salad. A birthday party brought me back to Miko's. The place still looks the same and they still serve Korean, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. FOOD: BBQ Kalbi - $19.95 This was by far the best kalbi I've ever had. The meat was not only tasty, but buttery soft with hardly any fat. It was served on a not-sizzling sizzling plate over a bed of half-cooked onions. Still, highly recommended.   Beef Broccoli - $17.95 Looks can be deceiving. The dish looked amazing... Dark brown gravy, bright green broccoli, tender strips of beef. But, the gravy was very salty (even for me who loves sodium) and gritty, like they mixed in too much cornstarch to thicken it.   Crispy Sautéed Shrimp - $16.95 Nothing can beat the benchmark version at Saigon Cafe just down the road. While Miko's concept is similar, the flavoring, or lack thereof, is what made this fall flat on its face. Plus, the shells were still attached which made for a difficult eat.   Sweet & Sour Pork - $28.95 I'm not a fan of sweet and sour anything, but this was pretty good. The chunks of battered pork were tender, covered in a thick gravy, along with pineapple chunks (yuck), onions, and red & green peppers.   House Special Noodle - $16.95 The noodles were wide like fettuccine and stir fried in a light gravy, topped with chicken and a medley of veggies (cabbage, broccoli, zucchini and red peppers). Good but I've had better.   Mushroom Chicken - $17.95 My second favorite dish right behind the kalbi. Tender pieces of chicken, mushrooms, onions, zucchini and red peppers we're drowning in a dark brown sauce that was perfectly seasoned. Add jasmine rice to that and I was in heaven! Highly recommended. SERVICE: All the staff were on top of everything regardless of the party's size. OVERALL: Big menu selection with a few hits but more misses. read more

Being the only place that was seemed to be open after 12 on holidays we stopped here. They serve a lot of food family style. It wasn't too busy inside so we sat at a booth but they also have a sushi bar available. Also they have karaoke TV set up. I've never seen anyone up there but I'm sure at night it can be quite entertaining. We just ordered a few appetizers and sushi. Before the meal they also serve miso soup and tiny appetizers my favorites are kimchi and tofu. The tofu was sliced thin and chewy. Our appetizers were shrimp and vegetable tempura and kalbi. This first time I ordered the sushi by the time it came out I stuffed from other food. So only ate couple bites of crunchy roll which came with eel sauce. Came for Father's Day dinner and they did not disappoint. Since it was my first time eating here I wanted to try a bit of everything. They offer Chinese, Korean, Japanese cuisine. Since it was a holiday, reservations were recommended - and it's a good thing since the place got packed and some families were turned away. Orders were taken quickly and waters were refilled throughout the night. My family of 4 ordered crispy chicken, deluxe dragon roll, chicken chow mein and a love boat. The love boat would have happily fed the 4 of us but like I said, I wanted to try a little of everything. Crispy chicken was crispy outside but tender inside. The chicken chow mein had a smokey taste and the noodles were thicker than traditional chow mein noodles but it was delicious! At the end of the night, they gave our entire family complimentary desserts in celebration of Father's Day!
