Went there for lunch today despite some of the recent bad reviews. I called in my order ahead and had no problems. My order was ready to go and everything tasted great. I got my favorite plate which is the mini BBQ chicken, no rice- so you get 3 ban chan side choices. I chose bean sprouts, Kim chi and mayo potatoes. Then I added on side of mandoo which includes 4 pieces and then I ordered a SIDE of rice which was just 1 scoop. I love me some white rice but 1 scoop is good enough for me these days. I usually change up the sides but this plate filled me up today. I've ordered before and I will continue to. And you're welcome for the tip lol. Just kidding. Check them out.

Go to spot for Meat Jun and Fish Jun. I noticed the Combo Plate for Meat Jun and Fish Jun was just a dollar difference from ordering each plate individually so I chose the Combo. My four sides were Mac Salad, japchae, kimchi and wakame Salad. The whole Plate was excellent. Delicious and very filling. A little over $19 but worth the price for all of that. Ladies at the counter were friendly and everything looked clean and organized. I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so when I can.

My fiancé and I came across pearls Korean bbq when we searched meet jun on yelp. The restaurant is located at the Queen Ka'ahumanu center on the second floor, located on top of Starbucks and next to panda express. We ordered the meat jun and chicken barbecue combo, and the meat/fish jun combo. Both combos come with four choices of vegetables, and two scoops of rice. When we got the food, we were surprised on how much it actually came with. The box was packed to the very top and fed our party of five. The fermented vegetables tasted fresh and added a nice touch to the meal. The meat and fish jun tasted just as we thought with the thinly sliced meat cooked to perfection It tasted sweet yet savory along with the soy dipping sauce. I'm giving this restaurant two stars because either the manager or the owner was pretty cheap. To me, service iseverything despite how good the food tastes, whether it's a McDonald's to a Michelin star restaurant. I told him we had a party of five and asked for three small plates to share with my family and he said I can only give you two. Seriously? What's one extra paper plate to your business? I asked for a small cup of ice, and they also charge for that. I do recommend this restaurant to try the meat Jun but don't be surprised of the frugality that the restaurant offers. Also, sit outside. It gets super stuffy in the indoor seating area.

Place was really good about a year ago, every time I've gone there lately it's declined in quality. This time I ordered bulgogi and it was just dry beef with rice, no sauce or seasoning at all. Nasty.

People you are missing out if you haven't eaten here. My goodness it's great! Lots and lots of food for you to enjoy.

Pic of the chicken I ordered from the weekend with no sauce on it.

The owner is RUDE. HE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. HE IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, AND HE WOULD NOT GIVE ME HIS NAME WHEN I ASKED FOR HIS NAME. For clarification, I have been a customer of Pearl's for the last 25 years. You become a repeat customer because of the food and service. I LOVE the staff there. The girls are amazing and friendly. Recently, a new owner took over the place. I have always bought the same thing. A BBQ chicken plate or a Meat Jun/BBQ chicken combo. I LITERALLY grab a plate lunch from there at least four times a month. This past week, I happened to go there four days in a row, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and today, Monday. I ordered the same thing each day for a family member, a BBQ chicken plate. There were no problems with the plate on any of the days except today. Today, my order was a bit different. There was a sauce on top of the chicken. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but the person I bought it for does not like sweet foods. So Teriyaki sauce is a no. For people who don't like certain foods, something as small as a sauce can ruin an entire meal. This is also a $20 plate lunch. Anyway, I called the establishment because initially I thought they made a mistake and made me Teriyaki chicken, not BBQ chicken, because of the teriyaki sauce. When I called, I was transferred to the owner and told him what had happened. He proceeds to tell me, "That's not possible because we started putting sauce on it a month ago." Then I told him, "oh well, idk what to say, I've had it these past four days and ordered the exact same meal, and this is the first time there's sauce on the chicken." Mr. Owner got really defensive and said, "no, there was definitely sauce on it every day you came because we've been making it like this for a month already." I tell him again, "Well, im sorry, but there was no sauce these past three days because if there was, I would have asked for no sauce today." MR. OWNER says, "No, there was sauce on it cause I made it myself." I said, "Oh, you did, did you? What time were you there this past weekend, and what days?" .... "Well, I don't know what time it was at!", and I say, "You have no idea what time you were cooking at, but you're so certain that you made my food, "...he says.. "Yeah, I did." Then I ask him what his name is....he tells me, "I'm not giving you my name." I ask again, "You're not going to give me your name?" ... "No, you're not getting my name." It's also not just about what he said. It's how he sounded when he said it. He was very accusatory. MORAL OF THE STORY.... All I really wanted was to be able to let them know and see if i could swap my $20 plate lunch for one the same on I've had all weekend without the sauce *I have pics to prove it. This entire situation was completely blown over. Had the owner been nicer, more professional, apologetic even, and handled the situation like any professional business owner would. It would have been the end of the conversation. Instead, he accused me of lying, got immediately defensive, and didn't offer a solution. If I was the owner I would have said, "I am very sorry you don't like the way we prepped the chicken and I am surprised it wasn't on your order this past weekend when you visited us because we recently changed it up and started applying sauce on it for about a month now." But instead of de-escalating the situation, he accused me of lying, and that is where the problem started. Funny enough, I have pics from this weekend's order after getting home and separating the food, putting my mom's portion in a container for later, and sending her a pic to show her. Pictures below are just a comparison for Mr. OWNER to see I definitely was not lying, and there was absolutely no sauce on my previous orders. Two pictures are from over the weekend with no sauce and two pictures from today with sauce.

Located in the mall food court upstairs next to Panda Express. Food is served fast casual style, like Chipotle and Panda Expres. I ordered the BBQ chicken with cucumber kimchi and mac salad. Reminds me of the food we ate growing up at Korean church cookouts. Great comfort food!

    Seaweed Soup

The portion sizes are HUGE! There are plenty of banchan (side dishes) to choose from. The bean sprout side dish is one of my favs! We came 15 minutes before closing and they were able to get our food out super quick! Note that they actually close at 8 pm and not 9 pm. Shoutout to the janitor who let us stay past closing to eat.

It's definitely on the pricier side but there is literally no other soon tofu soup options so it's still cheaper than flying off island when a craving hits. The service was great! Aunty was literally like one of my my aunties. We showed up at 12p with a reservation but there were only 2 other parties but it was also a Monday so it worked out. The food was very tasty. Never tried cold noodle soup but that tricked my mind like crazy. The broth looked clear and flavorless but it was so delicious. I really enjoyed that with the chewy noodles. The La Kalbi made me see the birth of the universe. That thing was ridiculous. I'm still dreaming about it. I've never had Kalbi so soft and disintegrated before even chewing. We also tried the vegetable stir-fry with shrimp because my wife wanted to balance out all the meats but I'm not a vegetable guy. It was still tasty. The reason for coming was to try the tofu soup but we didn't even try that so we'll have to come back. I wanted to knock the rating down for pricing but I can choose whether I go here or not and I know the cost of doing business is crazy especially hawaii. overall, we had a great experience and the leftovers fed us for 2.5 days after our visit.

Literally took 45 minutes from sitting to getting our food. They were out of some stuff and we were told that they couldn't make some stuff because it would take too long. I guess there was only 1 cook too. Definitely not what I expected from a Korean restaurant. Kind of disappointed with the selections available and my bulgogi and japchae turned out to be a soup, which kind of bummed me out. No taste to the bulgogi and it was glass noodles with no taste of either listed dish. I threw it away. Kim chee fried rice was also blah. We had a party of 9 so I wanted to make a reservation ahead of time, but no one answered the phone. I ended up going in to make a reservation. Parking is located in back of the restaurant. We parked in a space marked Hemi's because that used to be the name of the business. They use portable, electric grills instead of the built-in gas grills usually used in KBBQ restaurants. The electric grills don't smoke as much as the gas grills. Many of the items on their menu are pre-cooked. The only thing we ordered that we cooked on the beef brisket. It was one or two workers running back and forth to fulfill all the orders. One of the auntie's at the restaurant advised us to just take a seat anywhere and that's what we did. The chairs are a bit high, so we weren't seen right away, but once they saw us they got us a menu, water and asked us what we wanted. We chose from the menu: soondubu, kimchi jeon, and kalbi (which we didn't get but I'm sure they were overwhelmed and didn't notice since there was a big party). Just by observing the place and the orders placed by the bigger party, if you look around the restaurant there are other food items that you can order. We didn't know and just stuck to the menu, lol but a note for next time! Again, the seats are very high so we were waiting for our food for quite a while. But once they noticed that we didn't have our food, they apologized and got our food right away! First came the banchans, I really enjoyed them! My favorite was the fishcake and radish kimchi. Kimchi pancake had other vegetables mixed in, not just kimchi. I wasn't expecting the other veggies, but it was good nonetheless. Then the grill and meats came. It is a portable grill and each table has an extension cord to plug the grills in. Once the uncle came to our table, he got us started with the grill and meats and cooked for us a bit! The attentiveness and effort was there and we really appreciated that. We then got our soondubu. It was very warm, refreshing and not too spicy. Our once empty table was now filled with banchans, sauces, meats, and lettuce! Once all our food came, the nice auntie came over and apologized again for the long wait for our food. She had said she would give us the kimchi jeon as a "service" which kinda means "it's on the house" as an apology. We understood the busyness with the restaurant and short staffed workers, but we're grateful for the effort and attention they had once they realized. Overall we enjoyed our experience here at O BBQ! We left full and satisfied, but not over bloated! I know Oahu has all you can eat KBBQ, but all you need is some good food, good meats and good company to enjoy KBBQ on Maui! We are glad we chose to dine in and try this new spot on Maui. We'll be coming back again!

I just wish they hadn't put so much of the cream sauce on top. 3) Korean chicken and tutu karen okra's dry mein 5/5 - the chicken was on point and the noodles are (as listed) a bit on the drier side but it all goes well together. I would definitely go back and try the other dishes + their lunch menu!
