What a great restaurant! I've been here for over 15 years and always enjoy my experience here! Tucked away in a side street of Wailuku, Saigon Cafe is a popular local restaurant! Service was super friendly. Calamari appetizers. Good and rice flour breaded. Served over shrimp chips and romaine lettuce. Rice Paper Burritos. Make your own spring rolls with noodles, veggies and herbs. We chose beef and sugarcane shrimp. Delicious. Crispy noodles. So good. It was served with a dark sauce that had umami flavors. I enjoyed this dish. It's a local spot with local style service. Restaurant is clean. Kitchen is fast. read more

I have only good things to say about this place.. They're hot and sour soups are some of my favorites.... But I also love their Pho #number 26. Which is a very authentic Vietnamese favorite. I wish they would add root beer to their drink menu but other than that.. one small item I have never found a bad choice here. And this is a local favorite that has been here for years and years and years. read more

Figured another review was necessary because they are under new ownership. After a recent family gathering of some relatives raving about a few items here, I had to go. It was recommended we get (57) sautéed shrimp & (75) flat rice noodles with seafood. We also got the green papaya salad. The salad was so crispy, crunchy , & fresh. Just the way I like it. The shrimp came lightly battered with onion, garlic, & ginger on it. The perfect savory combo. At first glance, I was wondering where the seafood was because I just saw a few shrimp. I later realized there was calamari as well. A very flavorful dish. Service was good, despite them mentioning they were short staffed. I even recognized our waiter as I remember him working there before the new owners took over. read more

This is a brilliant restaurant! It is in old Wailuku and is a favorite of the locals. The food is delicious, the service is hyper friendly and welcoming. We had the scallops, papaya salad and some fresh spring rolls. Honestly, the scallops were marvelous. The sauce was sweet and savory. The scallops were done to perfection. The papaya salad was perfectly balanced. A little sweet, sour and just a hint of heat. The spring rolls were indeed fresh and I loved the dipping sauce. If you are looking for the best Vietnamese cuisine on Maui then look no farther than A Saigon Cafe. Double highly recommend. read more

Casual and authentic! A Saigon Cafe is a local spot that keeps to its Vietnamese roots. The food is cooked with less salt, so definitely pair to taste! This restaurant fulfilled our craving. Everything we ordered was enjoyed by all. We called in advance for fresh steamed fish. The restaurant served us a whole opakapaka. The owner/server had a sense of humor as he took our order. Pleasantly made us feel welcome. The restaurantis next to a motel and parking was somewhat sparce. Inside was very spacious, including a full bar. The location is out of the way from any resort but we'll worth the drive. read more

Another one of our favorite restaurants on Maui. It's casual dining and they have indoor and outdoor seating available. Some of our go to is the Sautéed Shrimps, Crispy Chicken (Family Style) and Chef Long's Bok Choy. I like to have Thai Ice Tea with my meal. Good friendly service. Charlie works on Sundays who makes dining entertaining with his jokes. Must go when you're on the island. read more

We've probably been here, 10+ times, and every time has been a hit. We've ordered multiple things on the menu, and everything has been yumtastic. I would say one time, the lemongrass chicken was a little bit too salty, but overall... it is a very fun experience, with so many menu items to choose from. Please decrease the salt! There is never a long wait. Food comes out quick. Portions are good. Prices are fair. Service is fun and memorable. Shrimp wontons, do-it-yourself spring rolls, lemongrass chicken, Vietnamese, crepes, claypot dishes...These are our favorites, but we have been with multiple people who have had way more choices who have also enjoyed theirs. I don't think you can go wrong here. This is a fantastic hidden gem. read more

I had the #40, Shredded Pork & Grilled Beef vermicelli bowl. I thought it was quite good and the bowl was quite full (and filling). There was no skimping of the meat here and I actually couldn't finish it all. We've eaten here several times on past trips and never have been disappointed. The owner/manager comes around and he's always a bit of a jokester but he's always also right on top of things too! read more

Papaya salad here is still great - just a wonderful flavor profile. Duck noodle soup was also good - huge duck leg. The pho broth was not our fave - not as complex a flavor as we've had elsewhere and was a bit too sweet. It had a generous portion of the meat though. We got the combo and there was lots of each. read more

Very comfortable food. I was feeling so tired and all my. energy returned to me after I eat the pho!

Well, I was feeling Vietnamese food and was introduced to this very well established establishment. The food was delicious and well served. Customer service went far and beyond..even after I didn't receive my shrimp for my vermicelli bowl(but it came). And the ambiance was splendid. Great location with easy parking. Indoor and outdoor sitting..at the end of it all. I was plump and fulfilled. Great place to try when in Maui. I will be back.. Thank you-A Saigon Cafe!!! read more

The service was terrible/ non-existent. The Sriacha bottle was full, but browned and disgustly tacky to touch, with a crusty, crappy cap. New owners apparently. Server bussing 4 water glasses with his fingers inside them, and coming to us. GROSS. Same menu, but only ok now. Sad, loved Saigon since Lower Main days - 30 years. read more

Ordered for pick up, my son wasn't feeling well and thought some Pho would be just what he needed, so i ordered No. 23 for him and the crispy noodles with tofu for myself. We both were very pleased! The place looked very cute and comfortable, i even noticed a full bar! I would definitely return and do highly recommend! read more

Came here before and the food was awesome. Came here a few years later and what a difference. In the bad way. Clay pot was just warm soup, the sauce wasn't caramelized. The mushrooms were still raw! Same for tofu curry, they didn't even cook it long enough to make the tofu hot! And the onions were raw, it actually hurt to eat it. I hope their old cook was just out for the day. Ambiance is old diner style but clean. Seats are harder than they look. Service was fast tho. I am ok with the quick and gruff Asian service but my partner did not like it one bit. Took the menus away while we were still looking at the drinks after we ordered the food. I was like cool, now I don't need to spend $9 on Thai tea. The parking is in the same lot as an apartment? So be careful and make sure to park on the restaurant side by the dumpster. Yep. read more

This is our go to place for good Vietnamese food. This place is located in the former Naokee's Restaurant location. There is usually plenty of parking available either in their lot or on the street. They have an extensive menu and everything is so good! I usually order the Vermicelli noodles with spring rolls and grilled beef. But today I tried the Naokee's Steak. It's served sliced and sizzling on a hot iron platter with sautéed vegetables and a bowl of rice. The server showed me how to pour the sauce from the vegetables onto the sizzling platter for extra flavor. It was AMAZING! The steak was tender and grilled perfectly. The added sauce not only made it more flavorful but also made it so juicy. The steak is one pound so I ended up sharing my meal since I couldn't finish it all myself. One word of caution- you will end up leaving with a lingering scent of the steak. read more

My favorite place for PHO! The staff are so great, venue is what I feel like eating in a street market in Vietnam would be like. Service is super fast too! read more

Wherever I travel, finding a local pho joint is always a must, it's a staple in my diet! While visiting Maui, I noticed there aren't too many pho spots around, so I had to check this one out while in the area. Combination Pho: My go-to order. I'd rate it a 7.5/10. The broth had a darker color but, unfortunately, didn't pack the flavor I was hoping for. Missing that rich aroma and depth you usually expect from a solid bowl of pho. Seasoning was just okay. On the plus side, the noodles to meat ratio was pretty decent, and once you add your sauces, it's had an ok bite. Spring Rolls: These were big and visually appealing, 8/10. The filling was a little on the mushy side with a heavy vermicelli base, but the dipping sauce helped balance it out. Not bad at all. Grilled Pork Chop: Now this was the winner of the meal, 9/10! Super tender with a delicious smoky char. Came with rice and veggies, making it a well rounded and flavorful dish. Would definitely order this again. Overall Take: The food was decent, not mind blowing, but there were some hits. The grilled pork chop stood out, and the pho just needed a little more love in the broth. On the bright side, our server was friendly, funny, and made the experience even better. Would I come back? Hmmm, maybe for that pork chop. read more

After more than a week of dining exclusively at five-star establishments during our trip, my wife started craving something comforting--Pho. We decided to take a chance on a place in Maui, and to my surprise, it didn't have the usual island twist of pineapple or lei garnish. Instead, this spot offered what was hands down the best-rated Pho on the island. The broth was exceptionally good, rich in flavor without being overwhelming. The soup struck a perfect balance--not overloaded with noodles, with just the right amount of protein, and a serving size that left us satisfied but not stuffed. If you find yourself missing a good bowl of Pho during your vacation, this place is definitely worth a try. They also offer a variety of Thai dishes and plates with protein, rice, and a fresh salad, so there's something for everyone. read more

Got takeout to take up the volcano for sunset. The fried shrimp was just no good (my fault for choosing seafood though). Tasted like absolutely nothing and rubbery. It does come with these big puffy crisps that were good though. The soups were fine, not as good as they sounded. Came with lots of fixings which was great! Spring rolls were mediocre. I wouldn't return. read more

Have been coming here year after year for Vietnamese food. This time we came for a late lunch. We ordered fried tofu for appetizers which was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Dipped it in a sweet chili sauce. Then we ordered the Vietnamese fondue with beef, shrimp and calamari. It came with the fresh herbs, veggies, and sauce. You cook the protein quickly in the broth and put it in a rice paper to make a tasty burrito. Healthy flavorful and delicious. The service is wonderful and the place is spacious and clean. We left full. Oh and they have a decent alcohol list. read more

Made a recent visit here a couple of months ago when our company bought out the whole inside dining area one afternoon to celebrate the staff for a job well done. They set up a table with a spread of appetizers like spring rolls, crispy calamari, fried chicken wings, noodles with beef and a few other dishes. It was then I was reminded how tasty some of the dishes were here. The fried chicken wings are seasoned with bay leaves, garlic, and butter -- absolutely delish with a nice crispy outside. The noodles with beef were also flavorful and the beef was very tender. The owner was also there making sure our big party was taken care of. She was very friendly and even packed up a to-go box for me to take home since there were so many leftovers still, lol. All in all, this is a good spot for some Vietnamese fare and one of the few places to offer pho as well! It was nice to try them out again after not having visited for 5+ years. They are off the beaten path, located right next to the Waiale Drive Bridge that carries Kaahumanu Avenue across Waiale Drive. They have a small parking lot with street parking also available. read more

The charming owner asked, "Are you Vietnamese?" Totally flattered, "I'm not," I replied. "I just know how to speak the language of food!" I totally love this place and thank Yelp for pointing me here so many years ago. If I can fit it in, I come to Saigon Cafe EVERY TIME I am on Maui. I always plan to try something different from the humongous menu but inevitably end up ordering one of the two dishes served with the Nem Nuong Vietnamese "sour" pork. I don't actually find it sour at all, more like eating a cross between char siu and spam -- ground pork lightly seasoned with sweet SE Asian seasonings, grilled until firm to the bite. The only difference between the two nem nuong dishes is the type of noodle (bun = with loose vermicelli noodles and eaten from a soup bowl, or banh hoi = pressed vermicelli sheets served with do-it-yourself summer roll wrappers.) Both dishes are served with lots of fresh veg and yummy fish sauce as a pour over. In a rush this time, I ordered my food to go, sped off to the airport, dropped the car, and sat outside of TSA and dug in. I must have looked happy since three people asked me where I got my food! :p read more

Great Bún Bò Huế (Oxtail Vietnamese Soup) with lots of meat, lemongrass and herbs. And the staff were extra friendly and polite. So glad we stumbled on this restaurant. I'm visiting and I came here for dinner because of great reviews on Yelp. We were seated right away for a party of four. Parking was hard to find but we found street parking on the side. I was disappointed to find out they don't have bun rieu. They also don't have lime. Instead they give you lemons. That's already a bad sign that Pho isn't going to be good. The broth is on the sweet side. Honestly if you had Pho in LA, this is probably the worst one you'll ever have. I was looking at other tables and I should have ordered something else that isn't Pho. The waiter also took the order wrong and my friend had to wait longer for his food to come out. Overall, don't get Pho here. Perhaps try other items on the menu. read more

Buddha rolls and build your own rolls are my go to. They give you multiple options for proteins and fresh herbs along with rice noodles and tons of veggies w/ fresh mint and Thai basil. Clay pot is a must, comes to the table sizzling. I recommend you let it sit till you no longer hear the sizzling then fold from the bottom up. Gives you the perfect crisp rice bowl. Large container of Sambal on every table if you love spice like I do. Servers are the friendliest and greet you very kindly, seating almost never takes long. Efficient and friendly staff. Lovely seating they have outdoors with nets if you want more airflow or indoors if you don't mind the sounds of a busy restaurant. Sorry, I did not take pics. It's that good I always forget to take a pic before digging in ^_^ read more
