    Wagyu Curry with Pork
    Rachel C.

Keyakiya is a food truck located along the coast, it's an orange food truck - very easy to spot on the road. I was recommended Keyakiya by a local and it was absolutely amazing. The pork katsu was so cripsy and flakey and the curry was so flavorful. Be sure to read the hours and days that they're open. Also it's important to note that they don't have any seating but there is a park nearby to sit and eat.

Chicken Katsu Don - $11.25 Comes with a small bowl of miso soup that was actually very good and included bits of aburrage inside. This version was good but not the best I've had. I was hoping for some crunchy pieces of katsu but they were all soaked and soggy from the sauce and egg layer. Flavor was adequate but it was missing that sweet-salty boldness that the version at Nuka (in Haiku) has. A small pinch of pickled veggies came to the side though I wish there was more. Portion size was average but with an over-abundance of rice at the bottom. OVERALL: Still a fan and will return to try more dishes!

O my goodness. We're on our way home from doing some essential shopping and I was hungry for lunch. It was about 120pm and i decided on calling Keyakiya for some chicken katsu. I always seen pictures and always drive by but never stopped and today we did. Called in and spoke to a friendly girl. She took my order and told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. Okay no problem. We drove up parked the truck at kahului harbor and waited. We saw people waiting in line so we knew it would be a little wait. We waited about 45 minutes but the thing is it's fresh and it was hot. I couldn't wait to dig in. Chicken katsu tasty tender pieces of fried chicken. These taste was there. That's the best chicken katsu I've ever had. It came with green sakad and seaweed yummy. Oh and I like the katsu sauce it was perfect. Chicken keyakiya. That was yummmmmmy to I tried a piece of chicken but that wasn't my plate di I couldn't eat more then that. The taste was delicious to. As we were eating our food the nice gentleman that cooked it saw us and ask if everything was okay. It sure was. Friendly service. Long wait, but it was worth it.. Support local at this time of uncertainty. Oh we gave them 30 bucks. Not sure how much it was. But a few dollars for tip.. Will be back again to get me that delicious chicken katsu..

Every time I pass by the Keyakiya truck, I think of Dragonball Z, with it's bright orange colors and black lettering. It's certainly eye catching when driving past them at Kahului Harbor which is their normal haunt from Wednesday through Sunday. A couple of months ago, I finally made my first stop here. I was on a mission to try their Keyakiya drumsticks, but they were unfortunately sold out by the time I got there. I was totally bummed, but the nice couple told me that the Keyakiya chicken was really similar and so I went with their recommendation. If a business name's a dish after themselves, it's gotta be good. Now let me tell you, their keyakiya chicken did not disappoint! Flavorful, moist, & just all around tasty. I savored every bite. And while the serving seems on the smaller side at first, it's actually quite perfect. It also comes with rice with a side of small salad. My follow-up visit I was finally able to get the keyakiya drumsticks and I would definitely recommend if this available. Yum! Delish. Absolutely delish! The spicy sriracha mayo-ish sauce that it comes with takes it to the next level. It's not meant to be a full meal, but moreso an appetizer, so order something extra if you have a big appetite. I also got a chicken katsu donburi which came with a miso soup. The donburi was pretty good, but just lacked seasoning for me. It needed a bit more salt or shoyu and wasn't a standout like the other dishes. All in all, their prices are a little higher than average, but the quality of the food they're putting out, I think is pretty top notch. Not a Japanese cuisine connoisseur eithet, but it seems pretty dang authentic! The couple that runs the food truck both speak Japanese and are also really nice. I will definitely come back to try more of their menu in the future. I'm coming for you braised beef udon!

My sister's husband ordered something from here while all of us were waiting for our order at Geste's Shrimp Truck. We didn't know he was going to order something, he just wanted to take a look, but he ended up ordering the tsunami fries! He came back to sit with us, then the gentleman working the food truck walked over to us with the tsunami fries. That was the sweetest thing ever--talk about CUSTOMER SERVICE. Not to mention, the tsunami fries were savory and the fries were crispy, as opposed to soggy, despite all of the toppings! Wish I could've tried the fried chicken.

I was craving some Chicken Katsu Curry today, and when it was time to get my grindz on, I promptly opened my Yelp app. and looked for a "Curry House" on Maui. Unfortunately for me.......Curry House does not exist on Maui right now, so I had to search for a plan "B", and that's where - Keyakiya came into the picture! Where can you find Keyakiya? You can find this wonderful food truck parked along Kahului Harbor (in the same area as Geste's Shrimp Truck). Look for a bright orange food truck, you really can't miss it! They are open from Thursday to Monday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and they are closed on Tuesday, & Wednesday. For a little food truck, they sure do offer an array of items (see my menu pic), but I came here mainly for the Chicken Katsu Curry! What can I say about the grub??? OUTSTANDING my friends!!! I was totally blown away at how good the Chicken Katsu was! The Chicken Katsu was breaded lightly with a panko mix, and it was deep fried to perfection! The Katsu tasted so light, and it was not oily at all......one of the better Chicken Katsu's I've ever tasted! As for the Curry......I noticed it was on the lighter side, as colored of the curry was yellowish, unlike Curry House's Japanese curry where it is of a dark brown color. Either way, both curry's are delicious! I can see why the good reviews of this food truck, as Keyakiya is legit!!! Looking for some ono Japanese grindages? Give Keyakiya a try! Buggah is ono!

One of the newer trucks located at the harbor, you can't miss this bright orange one! Serving up some authentic Japanese cuisine, this is not one to miss. I had passed this truck many times & after hearing raving things from friends & family I finally made it over there. I will be the first to admit that this Japanese girl was saying the name of their truck wrong this whole time. Decided to go with the Keyakiya chicken as I figured something named after them must be their specialty. Walked over to look at the goodies from another truck & by the time I went back, it was ready. From the smells alone, I knew it would be good. Opened it up to a huge portion of chicken, rice, a salad with their homemade dressing & pickled vegetables. This plate was full to the brim. The chicken was so soft & bursting with flavor. It was a perfect combo of sweet with the little bit of salty from the furikake, cooked to a nice crispy texture. The cute couple running the truck were so nice & very grateful for stopping by. Even just all the details about their truck were cute, from their chalkboard menu to the Japanese container that holds the utensils. Please do not let the prices scare you away, it is worth a try. Yumm, I will be back!

Wow, this food almost made me homesick (collegesick? Maybe nostalgic is a better word). After having lived in Japan for four years, the karaage was on par. It's hard to find places that fry food as well as Japan. This food truck is run by Japanese people, and the lady I talked to was really kind. Along with the karaage we also had oyakodon, katsudon, and braised beef Udon. Of everything, my family liked the oyakodon the least, I think this is because oyakodon is a fried dish in egg, this causes the fried part to be soggy, and while accurate may be a let down for people unaccustomed to this style of food. Other comments were that the Udon did not have enough braised beef chunks inside. But I'd say the noodles were nice and firm and I liked the texture a lot. Overall I'd come back. Especially for karaage. Yum

After reading all the great reviews of fried chicken on Yelp, I had to try this place out. During my first attempt, my flight arrived too close to Kayakiya's closing time of 4pm so when I arrived at the food truck after 4pm, the man kindly told me that they'll open at 11am the next day. After a Haeleakala hike the next day, I made a point to stop at Kayakiya while passing through Kahului. Here's what we ordered: Keyakiya Drum(mettes) $5/6 pieces Black Pork Katsu Don $11.50 Karaage Chicken $12.50 Braised Beef Udon $12.75 Our favorites were the Karaage Chicken and Keykiya Drum Sticks. The Braised Beef Udon was flavorful and the beef tender, but one of my dining companions said, "There's not enough beef." Although, Keyakiya makes for an ideal stop before and after a plane flight, the hours of 11am - 4pm and closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays limits our options.
