Just stopped by for breakfast before the airport, but I'll for sure stop back in to try some other items on my next trip. This place is the very definition of Mom & Pop, with little old ladies manning the counter, and hand written signage. It's hidden away behind some kind of office building, and waiting area is mostly filled with junk. Ambiance is about a zero, but that's part of the charm. The menu is kinda vague, but the prices are GREAT! Super cheap, and the food that arrived was plentiful and tasty. A family operated business that you just might miss because it's tucked away in the backside of a building. On the plus side, there is lots of parking and you can be in and out pretty quick. Aside from the Okazuya items, I love that they make your food to order so it's hot and fresh. I've mentioned before that I'm a brown gravy snob and I love their brown gravy! A true, legit brown gravy not turkey gravy or watery light brown gravy. Their luscious gravy topped on their food just warms your heart for any local. Workers are nice and so far I haven't been disappointed with anything I've tried. My favorite choice would be the breakfast bowl. The menu is rather limited, which we always appreciate as a positive because that means all items are made very well. Oyako Tei does not disappoint in the quality. How we came two hours prior to closing there were a lot of items that were already sold out. We really wanted to try the Oyako Don for some reason they were out of chicken. We settled for the salmon, which was very good. We also had several servings of nishime which was excellent that is a definite suggestion. The pro tip here is to call and order WAY in advance. It's hard to clean communicate how long it takes for the food to be made to order. 45 minutes for just one salmon don. We enjoyed it although.... It definitely is not worth a 45 minute wait. read more

I've lived here since 2018 (from Oahu), and have eaten things from here but never ventured in...until now. They used to be located near the Maui specialty chocolates, if I'm not mistaken, and moved to this current location near Lono Ave. it's located in a small two-story building, right behind a Tesoro gas station. Parking is plentiful in the back, tho the stalls are a bit small. Cute little mom and pop okazuya. Small hot and ready bar with things like dry mien, fried rice, Teri hotdogs, hash patties. I came later in the day so most was out, but they have menu to order things like loco moco, fried rice plate, spam musubi, etc. They also sell punaluu bread and take credit cards. There is a small area inside with chairs to either wait or eat. The reason why I docked a star was because once I got to the car and ate, I noticed the hot line items weren't hot (warm at best). read more

This is one of my fave places to grab a tasty and hearty breakfast in Kahului. Oyako Tei never disappoints on the flavor and portion sizes of their meals. On many occasions, this is our first stop as we land in Kahului. It always takes us a minute or two to decide on what to order, since everything is so "ono". The ladies who work here are so friendly and accommodating. I feel like I'm eating at one of my aunties houses. On this visit, we ordered a Big Breakfast, a Piggy Breakfast, Da Loko Moko and a Breakfast Bowl. We always order different items, since we're going to share back at our condo. Cute little mom and pop shop but they did take a while for our order. There's 2 parts to this restaurant - one is premade food that they just scoop for you and one that is made when ordered. We got a couple breakfast plates which came with 2 eggs, rice and 1 choice of meat which we got spam and Portuguese sausage. We also got a side of saimen which was part of the premade menu. The breakfast plates took about 25 min to make (I think they were really busy with to-go orders). It was pretty good - eggs cooked well, huge scoop of rice and grilled meats. Nothing different than a simple homemade meal which made it good. The noodles were a good texture but needed a bit more flavor. Pretty much a locally family owned and operated take out spot. Not the fastest but they're consistent on the quality of food. It is run by mostly older kapuna but they're consistent get the job done. I finally returned to Maui after a long hiatus due to the pandemic. Of course, my trip would not be complete without a meal at Oyako Tei, my favorite local restaurant on Maui. I noticed that they had moved to a new location on Lono Street. While it's a new location, the owner and staff are the same passionate and friendly people that I met on my last visit. The food is just as good as I remember. Same great breakfast options including "da piggy breakfast," and "da loco moco," both local indulgences. I was in the mood for a bento, which was so delicious and super filling including all my favorites (spam, hot dog, beef teriyaki, portuguese sausge, daikon, and lots of rice. So good and absolutely hit the spot. I also noticed that they are also selling Punalu'u sweet bread, which I had the pleasure of trying. It was so soft and flavorful. I think this would make a great french toast, or sandwich. I am so glad Okyako Tei is still the same great local restaurant it was after moving to a new location. Placed a phone order for one DA loco moco. Arrived at the store only to find out a regular loco moco was made for me. I explained to the worker that I said DA loco moco on the phone and she was very upset and proceeded to argue with me saying that I said a regular loco moco. I told her that I will purchase the regular loco moco and one DA loco moco and they made my order pretty quick. One of our favorite spots in Maui - we came here multiple times during our trip! Oyako Tei had the best spam musubis that we tried - it was no contest and we tried a few other places. The spam musubis were also easy to take with us during our Road to Hana trip. They stayed delicious even while sitting in the car. The perfect snack after a long waterfall hike. Our favorite dish here was the piggy breakfast - sub the white rice for the fried rice for extra piggy goodness! They have spicy spam musubis on Mondays and Wednesdays. We were excited to try them but they sold out super fast (I think we tried at like 8AM). Def a cool hole in the wall. This place is take out only, however. We arrived at 9 and there was no wait. I think we missed the locals-going-to-work crowd. So let me rave about the food and service. I love Hawaiian rolls and my French toast was the perfect slightly crunchy exterior and pillowy soft sweet interior. Pair that with a salty protein like Spam or bacon and you have the perfect marriage of salty and sweet. Big Breakfast includes French toast, eggs, bacon, Spam, and Portuguese sausage. We did a guided and somewhat strenuous hike to waterfalls in the morning and were starved for something to eat afterwards. I wanted spam musubi and we found this place just as it was closing, after calling ahead for an order. It's a tiny little tucked away storefront, with lovely friendly women staffing it. Our spam musubi were so good, and we also got two sandwiches (grilled cheese and tuna salad), served on soft white sandwich bread, as well as POG. Everything tasted amazing and it was SO inexpensive. I slowly regretted ordering a mini after seeing how big the large was but eyes be deceiving because the mini was plenty of food! food was amazing and especially more amazing eating on the plane up in the air eating such a lovely, home meal. I saw a cute grandma preparing the bentos and meticulously placing the sausage on the bentos and I already knew this was the jam without even trying because they forgot to include the secret ingredient that was in the bento: love. however, I would recommend to have better time management than I did and not come less than two hours before plane takes off since cute grandma is carefully preparing your goods! read more

This is always one of my favorite go-to spots when I visit Maui. My family and I returned to Maui about 4 weeks ago, after not going the last few years due to health issues and Covid. From talking to one of the "aunties", she mentioned they had to relocate since they lost their lease on their old location. They are only offering take-out at this new location. The location might be different, but the grinds are still ono! And they still don't skimp on portions, so you gotta make sure you've got an appetite. We parked in the back, which is actually where the entry is and there's a good amount of parking in the lot too. As you walk-in, they have the menus posted on the wall. We already had an idea what we wanted, but we still surveyed the menus nonetheless. We decided to order a Da Loko Moco, which came with a hamburger patty, portuguese sausage, bacon, spam, eggs and gravy. The hamburger patty is fresh and not a frozen patty like other places use. We also ordered a Big Breakfast, which came with a slice of french toast, bacon, spam, portuguese sausage, eggs and rice. Both breakfasts were awesome and quite filling. This was a great way to begin our vacation on Maui. The staff were very friendly and the nicest people.
