Our server Jeffrey was amazing and so genuine! We got the pork buns and Kaanapali and hawaian roll. Both amazing! Green tea and a mango cocktail! all delicious options. Oh and the views of the sunset ! You can't beat that! Highly highly recommended
Great ambiance! Went for after dinner drinks and dessert. So yummy! We sat at the bar but the seating areas looked super inviting as well. Love this new space. The bartenders were very friendly despite being very busy.
Nice location in Hyatt Regency, and if you're seated in the right spot, a great sunset. We showed up an hour before our reservation to have a couple cocktails at the bar, all was going great until another couple showed up wanting to have dinner at the bar and the bartenders tried their best to get us to leave for what I guess they expected to be a higher ticket. They even had the hostess approach us and ask if we'd checked in. 20 minutes before our reservation, so we had not. She told us a table would be ready soon. All too weird. At our scheduled time, we were called and taken to a table. We got a great spot and excellent service from Carrie. As others have nentioned, prices are pretty high, but quality was very good. Curry Dusted Calamari was super tasty but were really tiny pieces. Otoro Sashimi was excellent. Swordfish was very good, but plating was pretty bland. Still, a good dish. All in all, it was a good meal. I wish they hadn't made it so weird at the bar, but I'd go back.
Excellent service. Easy to book online during our stay at the Hyatt. Really nice views of the ocean. Amazing sushi and chirashi don. I ordered the lychee pineapple drink they made it less sweet for me. Then we go the malasadas with the lilokoi syrup and the macadamia nut sauce omg -- so good!!!

Shrimp, lobster, and hamachi kama were good. View is gorgeous obviously since it overlooks the water. However, not enough lighting at night. I could barely see my food and needed to use my phones light. The little table lights they have weren't enough. Most of our food didn't take long to come out but two items took a long time, which should have been the easier ones (lobster tail and grilled fish which both cook fast). Most of our table was done eating by the time I got my grilled fish.
Japengo delivered on every level. Stunning oceanfront views from the Hyatt Regency resort, incredibly fresh sushi, and flavorful Asian-inspired dishes that were delicious. Service was friendly and on point, and the cocktails were perfect for sunset. Pricey, but absolutely worth it. A must-do Maui dinner.
I went to Japengo with a party of 13. We had made reservations in advance. A couple of thoughts: - Sushi was good, fresh and tastes great - Dessert was epic and would recommend - we were seated at two separate tables which lead to different kitchen timing for Adults vs Kids table - Service was not great.. 2-3 stars at best. Not everyone was offered drinks when we sat down, when we did all finally order them (in 3 seperate waves due to the servers inability to ask us all the first time), it was about 20 minutes into the meal and 25 min after sitting down to even order I would overall recommend and hope we had a one off service experience
Really nice dinner spot in the Hyatt Regency. The oceanfront views are beautiful and the vibes are set with the dim lighting and chic décor. We started with some salads that were deliciously fresh and opened up the appetite. My bf and I split the 5 piece omakase, 2 rolls, and the garlic noodles. We were surprised by how full we ended up leaving, the rolls here are ginormous! Even though they are a staggering $30 a roll, I did feel like the size of them justified the price. Of course all the fish was super fresh and buttery, and every piece of the omakase was delicious. The chu-toro was a standout, it was really melt-in-your-mouth and rich. Other orders at the table included the shaking beef noodles and the special fish of the day, which all got great reviews too. We had a delicious bottle of sake to wash everything down, and ended the night with the ginger crème brulee. We really got to enjoy dinner and weren't rushed at all, I think we got to enjoy a good 2 hours of great conversation and food. It's definitely a splurge to come here but I think the quality and vibes make it all worth it!
I stayed at the resort and stopped by for a quick bite and drink. I didn't make a reservation and was seated at the bar. The ambiance was very intimate and beautiful views. Service was excellent, my server super attentive and fast. I tried the Ube Sour, a gin-based cocktail that was strong but balanced with the sweet ube. The fish was fresh, which I appreciated. However, the poke block missed the mark for me. The rice was hard and fell apart easily, and the poke itself didn't feel authentic. For the small portion, the price didn't feel justified. I'd be open to giving the place another shot next time.
Japengo is at the Hyatt Regency Maui and located at the lobby level and overlooks the hotel pools. We made same day reservations and was able to get a table for 4 later in the evening on a Wednesday. There was a line of people trying to make reservations also so book before or earlier. We arrived a few minutes early for the reservation and our table was ready. The restaurant is much bigger than I thought. Large covered dining area plus the dining on the newly renovated and extra large deck over looking the pool. Evening time was dark inside but the table lights were bright enough at the table and added the nice ambiance. Our server was so friendly and patient and I saw that she was on top of every request and order from all the tables in her section. Amazing skills! We ordered the white lotus mocktail, a OJ, kids Mac and cheese, curry dusted calamari, Korean seafood pancakes, pork belly bao, Rainbow and Shrimp Tempura rolls, and the blackened tuna roll. The dishes and sushi rolls are generous portions and we didn't understand or were starving. We ordered too much for the table. Even the kids Mac and cheese came in this huge bowl enough for two kids. All the sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. They were topped with this wasabi tobiko. I've never had anything like that, and I wished I had more to top other dishes. The Korea seafood pancakes were really crispy on the outside and light and doughy on the inside with the seafood. The sauce on top was great. If they had called this seafood hush puppies, I would have been happy with the order. Each piece was ginormous but didn't have much green onions. I was expecting the pancakes to have a lot more green onions. The pork belly bao buns had a nice pickled salad on top. The buns were not very fluffy but serviceable. The dish was ok. The curry dusted calamari was also just ok. Calamari was fried well and crispy. The curry dust was just not the flavor we liked. And it came with these grape halves around which didn't really go well with the calamari or flavor in my opinion. I think if we ever come back, we'll stick with the sushi menu.

Dishes were hit or miss (and very pricey)! Tofu stir fry should be completely skipped - very bland; seafood udon was super yummy (but also $50 for a relatively small portion). Ginger crème brûlée at the end was very refreshing
Very fresh, delicious sushi rolls with a spectacular view at sunset from their patio seating. This place is very popular! So definitely make sure you make reservations ahead of time if possible! Service was fast, friendly and took care of all our menu questions and request. Note, the sushi kitchen gets busy, so if you forget to order something with your main order, you might be waiting a long time to get it. So plan ahead! Highly recommend.
Gorgeous place inside the Hyatt. View is spectacular. The view is not free. Some of the highest sushi prices in Hawaii it seems. pork bao buns are nice and soft. We don't like mustard but this has just a hint of it. We ordered a few sushi rolls. There is not alot of choices for rolls but the ones we had were nice. Tasted fresh. Decent sizes. You go here for the views (and convenience if staying here). The food is good but not out of this world. read more
A tried and true resort-style staple of Kaanapali. I've been here every time I've visited and haven't been disappointed. I do miss some of the more varied menu items of years back (they used to have much larger omekase style platter) but the quality remains at the top. Dining on the terrace at sunset is a must. The views and the weather are otherworldly (I overheard another table describe it as "looks like AI"). I assure you it's real. Our server Misti was wonderful, as was Delfino. The sashimi was immaculate and the rolls all had the right combos. My one complaint (but not one worth a star deduction) is that that Hokkaido Old Fashioned came with normal ice... at this kind of establishment and for the price, a single large rock should be standard. read more
Japengo is located inside the Hyatt resort and was an easy, short walk from our stay at the Westin. The outdoor patio alone is worth the visit -- the view is absolutely breathtaking, especially around sunset. We ordered the Unagi Roll ($29), Shaking Beef Noodles ($48), and the Kanpachi Kama ($37), which wasn't actually on the menu. They had run out of the Hamachi Kama (I overheard they only get about 3-5 per day), so they offered Kanpachi instead -- and it ended up being a great choice. While the prices are definitely on the higher side, that's expected at a five-star resort in Maui. Service was excellent, the atmosphere was stunning, and the food was delicious all around. For the views, quality, and overall experience, it was absolutely worth it. I'd recommend Japengo to anyone visiting Maui! read more

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency so this was easy for convenience purposes but I would not eat here again. The food was simply okay, the service was also average. We ordered some drinks that had a heavy pour from the bar - if that is your preference, you'd love it. But for us they were too strong. I will say the view and the vibes were nice though! read more

We made reservations here for the last night of our 10 day stay in Maui. The hotel/resort is beautiful, and we had great experiences at the other restaurants and bars on this property, so we were very much looking forward to dinner at Japengo. Sadly, we were pretty disappointed. The views and ambiance were wonderful, but the food was lacking, and our waitress was lackadaisical at best. The bao buns were tasty but the fried rice was super greasy and barely had any chicken in it, and the sushi rolls were ridiculously thick, which made them hard to eat (and I am a huge sushi fan!). The sushi rolls also didn't really have much taste to them. We ended up with 3 orders of the Japengo fried rice that were barely touched and the waitress didn't think to ask if something was wrong. For the price of this restaurant and the numerous other great options all within walking distance of the Hyatt, I'd pass on this. 5 out of 10 at best. read more

We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our meal. We always go to the same places while in Maui but this trip we decided to venture out. The Yelp ratings looked good so we made a reservation. We were greeted and seated promptly. We were seated on the patio. There was another patio a bit dither out that would've been a bit better of a view but ours was still great. We ordered a coupe of drinks that were great. The Jalepeno 75 had a good kick! We started with bao buns and then a salad. Both were great but the salad was delicious. Followed that with the surf and turf roll and the Kaanapoli roll. The surf and turf was ok but I wouldn't get it again. The Kaanapoli roll was delicious! read more
Hands down, Japengo was our favorite meal of the entire trip -- and it just so happened to be our last night on the island, which made it all the more special. We saw online that there weren't any reservations available, so we called to check on walk-in options. The hostess was super helpful and let us know they had bar seating open -- and it ended up working out perfectly. For drinks, we tried the 1944 Mai Tai, Ube Sour, and an Old Fashioned. The standout? The Ube Sour. Easily our favorite drink of the whole weekend -- beautifully balanced and unique. Now for the food -- we went all out and ordered the Korean Seafood Pancake, Cajun Seared Hamachi Sashimi, Omakase Sushi, Aburi Nigiri Trio, Rainbow Roll, and Hotategai (Scallops). Every bite was fresh and full of flavor, but the Korean Seafood Pancake absolutely stole the show. I'll be craving it long after we've left. Japengo delivered on all fronts: ambiance, service, drinks, and unforgettable food. Highly recommend making it part of your Maui stay -- bar seat or not! read more

Maui is fortunate to have such an amazing restaurant to cater to their guests. We are visiting from LA and let me say WOW! Everything we ordered was a treat and delicious. From the sushi. Appetizers, and filets everything was amazing. Many restaurants and Japengo has been the best by far. Jimmy and Mike catered to us so well, from being attentive, courteous, and professional. Kudos to the chef on the wonderful Filets, cooked to perfection. Thank you to the staff of Japengo and we're coming back tomorrow night.... read more

Lucky enough to enjoy head sushi chef Masa omikase dinner experience tonite! And what an experience it was oh my! Began with truffle vichyssoise with sea urchin. Appetizer plate was oyster, octopus, monk liver, salmon belly, blue fin. Followed by blue fin tuna toro and kampachi sashimi. Then a delicate and beautiful chawanmishi egg custard with scallop and shrimp and ikura roe. Then lobster with Pohole fern. Next up was miso butterfish with egg omelet. Then the nigiri! First the most decadent wagyu beef torched to perfection with uni on top! Next was blue fin tuna and big eye tuna from Japan. Golden eye snapper torched lighting and giant clam nigiri and sweet raw amoebi shrimp to end the nigiri. A beautiful negitoro hand roll and beautiful clam miso soup to end the astounding meal! In case we weren't full a beautiful dessert platter by the dessert chef consisted of the house macadamia ice cream fudge pie, a mango cheesecake, a fudge pie and a matcha cookie! Masa is an artist in sushi! I have known him for over 17 years since he began at Sansei and he has only gotten better! Mahalo nui and don't miss this dinner if u r able to go and enjoy! read more

First and foremost, Japengo is a true 5-star restaurant in Maui, located at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa! It was my wife's birthday celebration destination -- and it would be my choice too! From the valet attendants to the concierge, the front desk (special thanks to Felma), the restaurant host, and the iconic staff at the "Circle" bar (Jen, Chris B., Mick, and Chris A.), we were always warmly greeted and taken care of. When you combine the freshest seafood with the perfect ambience, music, and design, you're truly in paradise in Maui. Thank you for making my wife's birthday celebration so special -- and we look forward to celebrating our upcoming anniversary on November 27th with you as well. We will always come back! read more

Japengo ended up being my favorite restaurant I visited during my time in Maui. The ambiance, the view, and the food were all outstanding. I was served by Jen, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and made the entire experience feel special from start to finish. To start, I ordered the Bang Bang crab dip, which was absolutely phenomenal, along with a Birds of Paradise cocktail. Both were a fantastic way to begin the meal. For my main course, I had the uni nigiri and the Cajun seared hamachi sashimi. The uni was wonderfully sweet and melted in my mouth, pairing perfectly with the rice and seaweed in the nigiri. The Cajun seared hamachi sashimi was equally delightful -- beautifully presented and full of flavor. Dessert was difficult to choose because everything sounded amazing, but I ultimately went with the ginger crème brûlée served with lemon cream and anise cookies. It was the perfect ending to the meal, and I finished every bite completely satisfied. The cuisine here is exceptional, especially if you enjoy pan-Asian flavors like I do. Combined with the absolutely gorgeous ocean view, Japengo offers an unforgettable dining experience. Without a doubt, this was one of the highlights of my trip to Maui. read more

Enjoyed a beautiful dinner at Japengo after a great day on the water fishing. I wish I remembered what everyone ordered but I was too busy enjoying the sunset and moment with family Service was top notch, view was amazing If you have the opportunity to visit Japengo in the Hyatt I highly recommend you do. We've been to the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa several times (one of our favorite places). We hadn't dined at Japengo so this time decided to have try it. We were not disappointed. We had an amazing and breathtaking view overlooking the ocean. The food was delicious. The garlic noodles are a must. We had a vegetarian roll - also delicious and well-prepared. We also tried the filet mignon - cooked just right. Everything was so tasty. I would be remiss if I didn't talk about the service. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. Carrie served us - so nice and Pleasant. If you are in the area and want some really good Asian Fusion food, to enjoy an amazing view and have great service, Japengo is your spot. read more

Sorry we usually just go to dinner and as such I do not know. Easy to check the oln line app or call the restaurant. The bar Looks very nice, big area.
Do they use real crab for the california rolls?
Is there free parking?
There is a "beach access" parking just outside the Refency Hyatt that always had a few open parking spots. You can park there for free and walk a short distance to Japengo (just inside Regency Hyatt).
