very popular filipino bbq spot. i got the sizzling pork chops which had tasty pork chops but its funny how they put 4 green beans and 2 carrot slices on top. was kinda surprised how expensive most of the menu was. also got the sago drink which wasnt what i expected and quite sweet. took much longer for my order to come than expected even though it wasnt busy - wonder how the wait is when it is super packed.
THE GOOD ---------------- + Hadn't been here in a decade, but just as I remembered it all in the past with decent food and solid service + Menu is filled with ALLLLL of your Filipino favorites (e.g. breakfast on weekend mornings and LOTs of pork dishes) + Food was solid and on par with other good Filipino restaurants ++++ Sizzling Sisig wasn't anything spectacular, but was still sizzling good and flavorful ++++ Ihawan Sampler with lumpiang shanghai, lechon kewali and calamares was all very good. It came with 6 pieces of each sampler item ++++ Laing was good as well, very "coconutty" as expected ++++ Halo Halo was spot on and refreshing + Waiters and waitresses were very friendly to us + Dining room is big, but it does get very busy during weekend lunch time, however tables should still be available THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Not much really. Food and ambiance hasn't changed much in their 30 years of operation RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Restaurant hasn't changed much in the last 30 years and is a bit on the rundown side, but I guess it's part of it's allure = You have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get to the dining room = Parking can be a challenge in the area

On a Friday evening, walked in and was seated right away for 2. Staff were friendly and loved that they sold merchandise there as well (I love to support the small businesses). Ordered the Lumpia Shanghai, Pancit Palabok, BBQ Chicken & Pork Meals with rice, and they provided one complimentary bowl of sinigang. The food was delicious: the bbq was succulent and juicy (not dry!), same with the palabok, not dry; and lumpia was also delicious (one note is because of the leaves it is served on, some lumpia became moist). The iced buko juice was sooooo yummy!!!! Friendly and attentive service by Chesca, Oliver & the gentleman wearing the Pogi shirt.
Decided to try something new since I was in the area. Super homey vibes, I loved it. First time having Filipino food and it was amazing! I got the lechón kawali which came with rice and an order of pancit that had shrimp, meat and veggies. So good! The young coconut drink actually had coco chunks and it was great. Our server was a delight as well!
Since moving to NY and even moving out, Ihawan is my family's go to Filipino spot in Queens. Everyone is always so attentive and their food delicious. This recent visit, my boyfriend and I did the Kamayan platter for two as our "brunch". We DEVOURED this platter. It was definitely the right portions for two people and everything included is always a hit! My only wish is that they would allow you to customize the platter with various choices of dishes to choose from instead of preset. Regardless, will always come back to this community staple!
Cuisine: 7 Service: 6 Decor: 5 Value: 8 Overall: 7 This was my first Filipino food experience almost 30 years ago. It was one of my regular haunts back in the late 1990's and early 2000's because of the inexpensive but filling meals. Since then, I have found myself generally preferring cleaner and lighter cuisine like Japanese and Vietnamese. I'm also a huge seafood guy, so all the pork did not appeal to me as often, especially since much of it is fried. With that said, every once in a while, the craving strikes. Anyway, over the decades, I now have specific Filipino dishes I prefer at various restaurants around NYC. However, nobody does a better Pork Barbecue than Ihawan, and that's what I came for a few nights ago with two friends. Yum! Every bite brings back the nostalgia of wonderful memories. I'm also a fan of their Pancit Palabok, which has smooth rice noodles in a delicious shrimp sauce, though what happened to the pieces of chicharron that use to adorn this dish? Please add them back. As for the rest of the meal, the Chicken BBQ and Sizzling Sisig were both decent, but the Daing Na Bangus was slightly over fried and somewhat dry. I stead of the Milkfish, we should have ordered the Crispy Pata. You really can't go wrong with that. These are all items that I do prefer elsewhere, but it wasn't a bad way to round out our meal. Once again, maybe the memory of this place for me is even better than the actual food. Most of which is not bad, but nothing really special. The only thing I must have from here would be the Pork BBQ. Luckily, I can simply order them downstairs to go.
3.5 stars overall. Service was good as the wait staff was entertaining and attentive. It was hard to not round up to 4 stars (especially because they played a birthday song for me and provided a whole flan to celebrate). But there was some misses with the food and the pricing of some food items threw us off a bit. It seems some meals are prepared on order by weight/volume so you're charged by quantity, pieces, or volume. That was similar to a market price model or "per pound" but not described in the menu. I didn't expect that for my Kare Kare dish in particular. (Unlike a seafood dish where the fish had to be weighed first or it being seasonal). As the waiter explained, it varies on the # of oxtails given. We ordered the lumpia which we enjoyed, the egg with eggplant and pork, and grilled eggplant (which was also charged per piece). Those are recommended. For entrees however, it was a hit or miss for my party of 4. The grilled pork chops was suggested by our waiter which is their most popular grill item. It was paired with white rice (no substitutions allowed for garlic rice but you can swap it for an additional cost). My friends both ordered the Filipino style noodles with chicken and shrimp in one and the other was a stir fry yellow noodle. It was bland and underwhelming. We ordered the crispy pig to share for the table which was inconsistent. Per other Yelp reviews, they are known for their pork but it didn't happen for us today. It was totally dry in most parts and the meat was hard to get to, not easily off the bone at all. And the crispy texture was there but dare I say too crispy where it was not enjoyable. My Kare Kare dish had about 4 oxtail pieces of medium size. Some eggplant, bok choy greens, and string beans. The sauce had only a hint of peanut butter for me. I would've preferred more. It was good but not memorable. It needed just a little more thickness to it. The flan that was served for dessert was very good! I enjoyed that a lot! The music and Birthday vibes provided by the restaurant was so sweet-- we were thankful and I was surprised by their humor and hospitality. Thank you!
Shoutout to the staff because we had a large party (nearly 30 people) and they were all so kind and patient with their hospitality. This spot is known for their Kamayan style dinner and one of the best priced options I could find for a large group. My partner is Filipino as well as many of his friends and we organized a large group dinner here to celebrate his birthday and the process was pretty easy. They have different priced platters that you can choose between. The food was quite delicious and there was a nice beautiful variety and spread that everyone really enjoyed. The one downside we had was that it was not in the traditional style we had expected. Typically, the way it is set up, is that the bamboo leaves would cover the table all the way with all the food laid out. You can think of it as a long rectangular table with food that you can just grab. However, since the pandemic, they had to change certain procedures including the kamayan setup. Now the kamayan comes in separate platters. I was a bit disappointed at the change, but the food was still beautiful and delicious. I think that what we were missing was a way to connect all the tables together so that everyone could face each other and talk to everyone instead of being separated. I would still love to come back another day and try individual items! Everyone seemed to really enjoy the food and even had some leftovers. Excited to return someday!
Amazing Filipino cuisine is being serve here. It's one of the best Filipino restaurants in this Little Manila of NY neighborhood. You can't go wrong with their Kamayan option. There a big improvement in service for this popular package. It comes now in ready pack, easy to put on or remove from the dining table. We tried their Kamayan package for 6 people. Quantity is right . We had 2 dishes on the side as add-on, the sinigang soup and the lechon sisig. The combination is just perfect . We came in busy Sunday afternoon so I called in 15 minutes arrival to make sure of a reserved table, they don't recommend but what's the harm if calling in. We still get our table ready when we arrived. Food and drinks are delicious and our cravings has been satisfied. Our dining experience was superb. They met our expectations and was. It reappointed. The service is top notch!
Want good filipino BBQ? Come here. Beyond that... not sure I'd recommend it. Sure I'm comparing it to my family's homemade cooking as a baseline, but here are my biggest complaints. Garlic rice? Portion was reasonable but rice was overcooked and the rice not nearly garlic-y enough. Palabok? No. Bland, not saucy, etc. (Jollibee Palabok is better ). Ihawan's saving grace was their BBQ. Portion considering cost was reasonable. Taste though was pretty darn good. Grabbed a BBQ rice plate to go for a friend it was that good. Quick tip. Order a side of longanisa if you're here. They grill it and the burnt ends of the sweet little sausages were the chef's kiss. If you're thinking about visiting this place... look for a small sign on the side of a building and walk upstairs. First time coming hear I almost thought it didn't exist or I had the wrong address. But for a Restaurant in this part of queens it was very spacious. Great spot for larger groups and families.
Came here for a friend's 30th birthday party and it was certainly worth the drive. It took approximately 90 minutes to get here from New Jersey. The workers here were extremely friendly and attentive. Water was always filled up, extra napkins were always provided and orders were always taken in a timely manner. To start, I had the Iced Buko (not pictured here). The sweetness was perfect and it was extremely refreshing. Although all the food on the platter was delectable, my favorite items were the lumpia and the crispy pasta (fried pork leg). Overall, great environment to share a meal with friends. read more
Came here on a Saturday morning. Only one table was being served.We ordered our food and two more tables were filled by people. Everyone else got their food except us. The two tables who came after us got their food and still we did not get ours. When the food finally came, it was cold. One of the tea cups they gave us had stains on it. One of the water had a black spec floating on top. Got breakfast and the egg was cold and hard as well as the rest of the food. There are many Filipino restaurants in the area and this will not be on my list to go to anymore. Seems like the quality has gone down. The staff was friendly, but what happened to the quality and cleanliness? They even added 18% gratuity on our tab, there were only 4 of us. read more
I came here with some friends for some 4th of July lunch!! The entrance is a bit hidden. The first level is for takeout orders only, and dine-in service is on the second level. This Filipino restaurant gave very cozy home vibes. I liked the simple decor and wooden floors. I ordered the pork belly meal as my main entree. It comes with rice and a lemon juice dipping sauce. I thought the side meaty part of the pork belly was too tough, but the rest of the meat was super yummy! The pork belly was flavored in a savory way without being overbearing. The grilled meet enhanced the flavors too. For dessert, I ordered a mango royale drink which has mango bits, ice, and milk. It was sooo yummy, I finished the whole thing in one sitting. Asian mango desserts are the best. I will definitely want to come back to try more dishes in the future!! read more

This is my first time trying out Filipino foods. Damn!!!! I am fallen in love with it. The food is light yet very flavorful. You see a lot of Filipinos are eating there meaning that it is authentic. Weekend lunch can be quite busy so prepare to wait or get a reservation. The only one made us annoyed is the attitude of the host girl, which is kind of rude. She kept trying to avoid looking in case we might ask something and don't respond when we say " thank you". Need to learn the basic courtesy. Other than that, everything is very well made. I wanted to try Halo Halo but maybe next time. read more
I absolutely love Ihawan - it has great Filipino BBQ for a great price. Although busy, all the times I have went, there was excellent service. According to some filipino friends, the flavors served here brought them back to their childhood - some awesome local tasty goodness! We ordered the party platter for 2 this time around for 3 people and supplemented it with extra bbq sticks and pork belly. Super delicious and it came down to only a little over 20$ per person with tax/tip. I recommend calling in advance to reserve a spot especially on weekends. The wait can be long if you don't. Also, grab a group of friends/family to family style the tasty food so you get to try more of the menu! read more

Ihawan, oh Ihawan! Eating here is like visiting your favorite Filipino friend's house where the uncles and aunties fired up the BBQ grill. The open smiles, colorful plates, and utilitarian cutlery can only mean one thing - you're about to eat like a king. Lechon kawali (crispy pork belly), fried whole fish, and menudo are excellent. Whatever we try, we always order the crispy pata (deep fried pork knuckles). That crunchy skin. That tender meat. That liver sauce. You can dip anything in that liver sauce. Perfect place for a family meal, especially with large entrees to share (ie the kamayan) My favorite dish was the Ginataang Gulay. Jackfruit sauteed in coconut milk, shrimp, and chili pepper makes a deliciously rich treat that goes great with rice. We tried the iced calamansi after learning they're a home specialty. Refreshing, but too sweet for me until I mixed it in with water. read more
3 stars is average. Not amazing food and definitely not bad. It was my first time back in the neighborhood after a few years and I was happy to see it was still there and doing well. I couldn't wait for my gf who never had Filipino Food to taste it, unfortunately she was not impressed. The food came out looking delicious ... but the taste was not as good as before. Kate-kare was just ok, both the pork belly and bbq pork looked juicy but we're actually a dry and the tofu pork were over fried. The best part of the meal were the avocado and coconut drinks. Came here on a Filipino coworkers recommendation, and was blown away. This spot features super authentic Filipino food, and the vibe feels very family style and chill. I got to try a lot of food I haven't had before, and really enjoyed eating food with my hands. I'd recommend coming with a group and getting one of the big platters to share. We had a group of five and still couldn't finish everything pictured, so come hungry or with another person or two! The food was also very affordable, and the staff were so funny and nice. This place is definitely friendly for folks unfamiliar with the cuisine as well, the staff are happy to explain each dish. Overall, highly recommend! read more
Ihawan is a fine representation of classical Filipino cuisine. Their menu is a good introduction to Filipino food for anyone who wants to experience it. The setting is comfortable and spacious with practical furnishings, and not much has changed since I came here about 10 years ago. The staff here is friendly and accommodating, with a great sense of humor. We ordered the ihawan platter for 8 (4/5). It was a variety of food in generous amounts. We enjoyed the inihaw na baboy (grilled pork belly); it was fatty, marinated, and smoky. The crispy pata (fried pork leg) was crispy and succulent. The tortang talong (eggplant omelette) was satisfying. The lumpia (pork spring rolls) will always be good. The sinigang (sour soup with pork) was rejuvenating. The fried bangus (milkfish) was crispy and properly seasoned. The tocino (cured pork belly) was a tad bit rubbery and dry; you can always opt to switch this dish. The shrimps were quite standard. The calamari was tender with a well seasoned crispy batter. Overall, it was a melange of flavors and an experience that reminded me of home. read more
It's very traditional Filipino food. Upside: decent bbq and lots of meat. Too much. Downside: long wait. For food and for table. They take rsvp for larger group. Food - they are good. Either grilled and packed with sweet. They can't go bad for that. You will end with a sugar high easily. Beside that, portion is a lot. Love the noodle and seafood. Grill pork is very easy to get addicted to. Ambiance is casual with family friendly environment. Service is friendly but they get busy. read more

I have been here many times before with different company over the past few years and it's definitely a solid Filipino spot to try in Queens! I've tried their kamayan platters, breakfast combos, appetizers, BBQ, soups-- and have been fairly happy with everything during every visit. The photos in this review are from my most recent visit for breakfast with friends on a Saturday. They offer breakfast combos with 2 meat/entree options of your choice, two eggs, and their version of fried rice, which also comes with the option of hot coffee or tea for about $12. I got the chicken BBQ and pork tocino, which was pretty good to me! But I will mention that their tocino is more similar to the pork used for BBQ spare ribs and not the red bite sized chunks most people are familiar with for tocino. Their chicken BBQ is also usually served as a chicken thigh filet and not on a stick. Regardless, both still tasted as I expected them to! We also tried their soup of the day on Saturdays, which is their pork sinigang. The soup itself was very flavorful and served in a fairly large bowl that was more than enough for the 3 of us. It had a good amount of tender meat and vegetables. Overall, this hit the spot and I would order this again! I give this place 5 stars because compared to many of the other Filipino spots on Roosevelt Ave or Queens in general, this is one of the few that have always been consistent in terms of quality and service. A 10/10 takeout spot! We ordered lumpia Shanghai, pinakbet, chicken and pork bbq, and pancit bihon to go on a Sunday evening and our order was ready within 20 minutes of ordering online. The BBQ was superb and the pinakbet and lumpia were so satisfying. Also, the total was around $60, which is great value for the amount of food we got. I'd come back if I was craving Filipino food staples or to try kamayan here! read more
Came here because of Tik Tok and so glad we did! Such a great little hole in the wall place with great Filipino food. We ordered some Lumpia, Pancit, a Pork Skewer, Lechon Kawali, and Sago to wash it all down. The lumpia and lechon were crispy, crunchy, and delicious. The BBQ was very tasty and flavorful. One of New York City's most special restaurants, this is a gem in the Little Manila neighborhood in the heart of Woodside, Queens. Ihawan has been one of my go-to's for almost four years. Their sizzling pork sisig with egg is my all-time favorite dish. I stopped by last evening for another sisig (was too swept away in the moment to take a picture) and their incredible barbecue and was once again blown alway. What makes the restaurant truly remarkable is the wonderful people behind it. General Manager Jackie Bacani is one of the kindest, sweetest souls you will ever meet and it is apparent that the team has taken on her energy. Gerome, Oliver, VJ, and Joel can always be counted on to greet with a warm smile and provide exceptional hospitality. I always look forward to visiting this wonderful establishment. read more

Five years later, and this place is still serving up Filipino goodness like it's on a mission! The sizzling pork? A flavor explosion that'll make your taste buds dance the tango. And don't even get me started on the crispy lechon kawali--crunchy enough to make a chip jealous! The staff is friendlier than your favorite aunt, even when the restaurant is buzzing. Omg. I was craving some bbq skewers and this place does not fail. They're about ~4 for a HUGGGGEEEE skewerr! I feel like a skewer and a bowl of rice and you're set for the day (exaggerating) but that's how big it is... it's like the perfect combination of charred, sweet, and salty. These were super fresh (hot), had to wait for them to prep a batch and it did not disappoint. I want to try dining in and ordering their other options but this was still 10/10. read more
Came here to get the Pork BBQ skewers after hearing how good they were from social media. They were honestly okay. The first few bites were pretty good but as you eat more and more, it was just overdose of meat. It would have been nice if there was a side of veggies or something that come with this pork BBQ meal. We did see a ton of items on the menu though so maybe we will find something we like the next time we come back. read more

We came here because we saw somewhere online that their meat skewers were to die for, but honestly, I think the star of the show for our table was the deep-fried pork knuckle. You gotta be a little adventurous but it was honestly the best piece of roast pork that I've ever had, even beating out those of famous cantonese barbeque places. I think I even made my two friends sit there for an extra 30min as I slowly worked my way through the deep fried skin goodness. But let's break it down: Meat Skewer: PROS: - HUGE quantity. I mean HUGE. If you're a meat lover, this will do it for you. We ordered 1 skewer and were still unable to finish because of the ginormous pork knuckle - well seasoned (almost overly seasoned) - meat was tender, not chewy CONS: - none. Need to get some rice though bc it is on the heavily flavored side. Roasted/Deep Fried Pork Knuckle: PROS: - THE BEST EVERRRR - super crispy skin - comes in one block of hunky meat, need to dissect with knife - shareable, definitely shareable - well flavored, they seasoned the meat I believe before deep frying or roasting it. CONS: - it is FATTY. Not for the healthy and not good for the heart. Maiz con hielo: DESSERT! PROS: - very generous with their toppings (see picture) - not too decadent for dessert but just enough to take the heaviness of the meat we just ate CONS: - none I would definitely come back for the pork knuckle. To note, we came on an off hour right before dinner really kicked off. It was easy to get a table and also service was good, never had to wait for anything. read more

Came here to try their pork barbecue. Ordered it for take out. Didnt have to wait too long. Overall it was fairly good. Taste reminded me a bit of the Vietnamese pork chops. They also have a watery sauce that you can drizzle on the pork, I wasn't really crazy about it. It was a bit sour/bitter. Pretty filling with the rice. read more

Was super excited to try this place. Seen great reviews about how tasty it is. Great lumpia Shanghai. Just a supposed.flavorful experience. Sadly, it wasn't. Food: Lumpia was sub-par. Lacking flavor. Kare Kare was tasty but they didn't clean off the fat properly & that made it off putting. Chicken Adobo was good but I've had better from smaller- less known establishments. The pancit Bihon lacked flavor. The steak was good - but yet again - the fat wasn't rendered down properly & was off putting. The "garlic" rice lackedany flavor of garlic. Crispy Patya was ok. The worst thing was probably the "banana" drink it was not a banana but a half ripe plantain. There's a big difference there. Decor: clean. Nothing amazing. Chairs aren't that comfy Service: it was ok. They weren't very attentive to us. Didn't even come back to ask us if we wanted more water / Drinks / food etc. Overall: wouldn't come back. Parking is terrible around here. read more
Great kamayan feast for my party of four. I also had the sago drink, which was different from what I imagined but very tasty. If you like a sweet refreshing drink with jelly, give it a try. Great service and we were serenaded with a Christmas chorus/ carol that came in from outside. read more

It has been a while since I was here, we were seated quickly and we had the grilled octopus stuffed with onion and tomato, Lechon Kawali which is a deep fried crispy pork with liver sauce on the side and white rice. Pork wins all day long, crunchy, tasty, the liver sauce is tangy and adds a bit of acidity to each chuck of deep fried pork. The stuffed grilled octopus was ok, since it was a specialty items it was the most expensive individual item on the table. Overall a nice change of scenery and food as Bayside does not have Filipino cuisine restaurants. Since it was just 2 of us, we could not order more food, i need to come back with more people. No alcohol at this place :( read more
This place feels like a family owned restaurant - feels very homey. Everyone is really sweet and kind, and they really made me feel comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend getting the combo so you get to taste everything that this place has to offer. I also recommend getting the avocado sago drink, because I've never had it anywhere else. Remember to come here early because it closes at 8:30! The food was fantastic and the service was phenomenal. We actually got there close to closing time around 8 and they let us stay a little past 8:30 so thanks to the workers. The food was fantastic our personal favorites were the fish and the fried pork. All the sauces were pretty good but I personally enjoyed the darkish green one! Come here with a big group and try a little bit of everything. Will come back in the future to try out the kamayan and the halo Halo. Garlic fried rice was good too! 5/5! read more

first dine-in experience after indoor dining started! i called on the day of to make a reservation for noon. i believe there's a takeout window on the first floor (running late and i couldn't look closely) and the dining area is on the second floor. lol i felt like i was intruding but no worries, just walk up the stairs and you will see. the staff gathered our contact info and took our temp before seating us. the tables were spaced out and had some low barriers separating them (i'd say about waist height?). we scanned the QR code to see the menu and we ordered a bunch of things try out. -ihawan sampler: an appetizer sampler with lechon kawali, calamari, and lumpia shanghai. they were all crispy and tasty, highlights were definitely the lechon and lumpia shanghai. this was a great start to our meal and i recommend it to those looking to try a few things at once. -weekend breakfast special: pick two meats (some choices were chicken/pork bbq, longanisa, corn beef, beef tapa, tocino) and it comes with two fried eggs, garlic fried rice, and a choice of coffee or tea. me and my brother both ordered this and between us, we got the chicken/pork bbq, longanisa, and beef tapa. ihawan has a reputation for good bbq and they really lived up to it! the pork and chicken bbq were HUGE first of all, well-seasoned and grilled. the longanisa was good and so was the beef tapa. -kare kare: oxtails slowcooked in a peanut butter sauce, with veggies like eggplants, greens, and string beans. the oxtails were super tender but the sauce was kinda bland. my filipino friend did tell me afterwards to try it with the shrimp paste to enhance the flavor. TIL lol. -halo-halo: i've never met a halo-halo that i didn't like, and this was no exception. all the typical beans, jellies, palm seeds, jack fruit, etc. with milk and shaved ice, topped with flan. it didn't matter that it was super cold out, i can never leave a filipino restaurant without it. during our meal, my brother kept commenting on the odd location of the place and i joked that it felt like we're eating in someone's living room. service was good, great portion size (i have leftovers for days!), and i can't wait to come back to try more things! read more
