Sometimes you can tell when food is made by someone who knows what they're doing, and someone who just knows the ingredients. Hoy Tin Kitchen falls in the "just knows the ingredients" category. I remember the owners used to be the same as Canton Seafood Restaurant not too long ago. The current owners feel like they are just owning it to own it because the food speaks for itself. This place is located along Liliha St, right before Kuakini St., near Jane's Fountain. Only metered, street parking available. No dine in. Takeout only. $10 minimum for credit cards. Menu is your usual Chop Suey/Cantonese style food. Prices were OK. On par with elsewhere. Food took a while to come out, but it sounds like there's just two people working there. I ordered the Beef and Bittermelon with rice. The portion was a very good amount with plenty of rice. Steaming hot! The main flavors were there: black bean sauce and oyster sauce. But there was something just off about the taste. It lacked salt and sugar (maybe MSG too?) to bring everything together. Overall taste was one note and didn't feel right. The sliced beef was weird. It's large slices that varied in thickness. Some were thin and fell apart, but there were thick pieces that was tough. The meat didn't seem like it was marinated as it was quite bland and not tender. The bittermelon was fine, but the slices were so uneven with different thickness, and different shapes and sizes. Rice was okay. Too much water and had that feeling it wasn't cleaned well enough. Overall, the food was lacking something, missing something, and felt like it was just put together without any thought or focus or care. Everything wasn't prepared very well. Beef was oddly sliced that I've never seen before for stir fry. Bittermelon was sloppily sliced. Flavors were off. I don't think I'll come back any time soon.

Fried rice is wet now, Caucasian style. The stuffed egg plant is stretched out you can't taste the pork. Fried pork chops ok.

Changed owners, foods not quite the same. The eggplants stuffed is stretched out so much you can't taste the pork. The fried rice is wet. Caucasian style. No flavor.

This restaurant gets very busy during lunchtime, likely serving many business workers from nearby hospitals and offices within walking distance. They do not offer dine-in service; instead, a table is set up at the entrance to prevent people from entering. Be prepared to wait outside for a while, as customer service can be slow. Today, I ordered the half roast duck for $25.99 and an order of crispy gau gee (8 pieces) for $12.99. Note that sauces are only available upon request, so don't forget to ask for them. The sweet and sour sauce was quite watery and lacked flavor. The roast duck was more well-done than usual, making it a bit dry. The crispy gau gee, however, was perfectly fried with a good amount of meat inside--definitely the highlight of the meal.

Even though I have lived in Liliha for 10+ years now and this place is just around the block for me, I never had the chance to try it. I decided to walk to my doctors appointment and decided to grab lunch on my walk back. I glanced at the menu and they have SO much choices! I decided on the roast duck noodle. I usually go to somewhere else for my roast duck noodle fix, but gave this place a try. It took about 10 minutes for the food to come out and they packaged it really well. I took my food and walked home. I heated it up a little bit more and then put everything into a large bowl. The soup was really clear so I was worried it would be flavorless, but I was wrong. It was flavorful and delicious! There was also so many pieces of roast duck! The roast duck was meaty and savory. There was also a lot of cabbage. I was skeptical at first, but now I can't wait to go back and try the other foods! Glad I was able to support a local store and found a hidden gem in Liliha!

We decided to give this place a try but found it was so disappointing. First of all parking is almost impossible. Unless you're lucky and street parking is open, you end up circling around or park illegally. We tried house special noodle, ba jun tofu casserole (which basically is the same topping except with some tofu), lastly the crispy fried chicken which is the biggest disappointment. It's definitely refried and it does not taste like fresh chicken.

Ordered Minute chicken cake noodle: great portion for the price and tastes so good. A bit oily so added some vinegar to finish it up. I also ordered spring rolls: it was very normal. It came with red sweet sauce: it was a bit watery and had it better with some chilies.

Crispy roast pork was weak. Little flavor, wrong coloring. It was at least crunchy but otherwise didn't meet expectations. Don't recommend this dish.

Hoy Tin kitchen was close to where we lived, so we decided to get Chinese food from here for my husband's birthday. Just wanted to try a different Chinese restaurant than our usual to go place. I love that there's an online order app. Easy to order and very convenient. Our ordered/ rating BBQ pork and shrimp fried rice = 6* Stuffed egg plant = 10* Salt n pepper squid = 1* so bad, it was a big fried dough with overly cooked squid. Salt n pepper pork chops= 3* super dry Beef chow fun = 7 * On choy = 8* Mayo shrimp with walnuts = 3* big shrimps but super dry n overly cooked. Hot & sour soup = 7* Atleast we tried it once.

She agreed and was presented with the hair free 8.50 version. It is common practice to not only provide the option of replacing the product for the customer but to remove the charge for the hair laced food from the bill. This action not only expresses the restaurants remorse but signifies their desire to keep you as a returning customer. Unfortunately this did not occur nor was any Kama' Aina discount applied (resident discount). My buddy really likes siao mai, and he said KSR has the best ones out of the places I have brought him to in HNL. On the other hand, the manapua was just okay: The ratio of meat to bao was low. I took char siu fr the platter and added it to the bao. We might have been better off skipping the baos and ordering a rice or noodle plate. The har gow and spring rolls were pretty good. The rolls arrived piping hot, and the har gow had a nice texture in the wrapper. Fourthly, the cucumber was fresh & crunchy, and had lots of garlic. I ate some with the char siu to cut thru the fat. Lastly, the char siu & duck platter was very good. They do a good job of putting some char on the bbq pork. The duck was tasty, but there were a couple of bony pieces. Regarding the ambiance, its big in here. Although they don't use carts, the aisles are wide. The servers were friendly & warm. I would def return for dim sum, but I also want to come for dinner. The food is very good, and the prices are reasonable.
