I have a problem with Chinatown. Almost none of the restaurants have websites and those that do tend to be outdated or even have dead links. Also, when did we start calling it, "The International District". If we had Mexican, Italian and other ethnic restaurants in the neighborhood, I'd get on board, but not only do San Francisco, New York and L. A. have the biggest Chinatowns, cities also have Barrio's and Little Italy's, so clearly cultures are ok with us specifying. A friend brought up Scallion Beef, so I did a search, Scallion Beef is sometimes called Ginger Beef, so H Bistro came up in my results. Initially, I wondered if H Bistro was Hong Kong Bistro and they rebranded, but HKB is still in business and around the corner and not very good mind you. Reviews for H Bistro are strong and the photo's convinced me that this should be a better than average meal. People talked about the lunch special and since I had a meeting downtown in the afternoon, I thought I could pop in here before my meeting. Once there I was sat. I didn't see lunch on the menu, so I asked and was told, lunch was no longer offered. Again, with no website, I had to rely on Yelp so despite reviews from 2024 talking about lunch, it's not longer offered. I got the Ginger Beef and asked if they did soup by the cup and was also told no. That is why Chinese Lunch is so popular, you typically get soup, rice, entrée and even an appetizer. That is a full meal. I just had my entrée and rice. I asked for chili oil and was brought a very small portion, It had good flavor, but no heat. The entree was good, but without soup and appetizer it just wasn't well rounded. Also, the food would have benefited from being served on a hot iron plate. Not only does it add sear, but it keeps the dish hot. Post meal, I had hoped for a cookie and despite being a block from the fortune cookie factory, no cookie was served. Would I return, sure, with a large group, that would be the only way to truly experience the menu. With 2 people I could have added soup and appetizer as the entrée is also large enough for 2. That said, this was one the cleaner places in Chinatown. That is not to say Chinatown is dirty, but many restaurants need paint, have old furniture or have water stains. This place was fairly nice inside and could be classy with a few more bucks invested. This place really shot itself in the foot by discontinuing lunch, despite being decent, there was just too much disappointment today. read more

We chose H Bistro for my fiancé's birthday dinner since he wanted crab, and our favorite is the salt and pepper Dungeness. We usually order this style in San Francisco, where he's from, but decided to give Seattle a try. Overall, we were very satisfied! The crab was incredibly fresh, and they prepared it perfectly. My favorite part--the shell with the guts--was loaded with flavor and hands down one of the best I've had. We also added a mushroom and beef dish, which was delicious. We ate really well that Sunday night and finished everything easily. Our waiter was amazing! Very helpful and hustled our food out while balancing the incoming and current patrons. This place reminded me of my childhood enjoying chow fun. The service was good. We had the salted egg pumpkin which was lightly fried. My son enjoyed the dry chow fun with beef while my father had the chow fun with gravy. The pea vine and salted fish and chicken fried rice was yummy. Came here on a weekday night around 7pm and stumbled upon this place. We were able to get seated immediately and shared 3 dishes for 2 people. My friend had been telling me about the clay pot enoki and tofu dish. We ordered off of Chowbus to pick up since we work in the CID. The clay pot enoki tofu and the eggplant cod clay pot were on discount on Chowbus which was nice. She got both of those I ordered one of the tofu and the crispy vermicelli dish with chicken. Great flavor I especially liked the the caramelization of the cod eggplant dish as I had. taste of her order. The tofu in the enoki dish is silk tofu its slight fried on the outside but the inside is soft like egg custard almost. The crispy noodle dish is fun texture and generous portion has a slight sour flavor on the good side. Would live to eat here in person one day cause I feel like the clay pot dishes would be even better in the clay pots. read more

This is a nice authentic Cantonese place that serves the usual dishes that you get in a (Chinese) seafood restaurant that has dim sum early in the day and these dishes during the dinnertime. It is a nice addition and a change in scenery to the various HK style cafes scattered around the International District. We got the scrambled eggs with shrimp and the crispy vermicelli noodles with chicken. These dishes are quite filling so go family style! The eggs with shrimp were solid as the shrimp is fresh and the eggs are somewhat runny, though a little bit high on the price tag. The crispy vermicelli noodles are crispy and not too mushy inside with all the sauce, so they did this pretty well. They do use a lot of oil (fried) so it's highly recommend to split this, but it's a great comfort food to fill you up. One downside is that in the crispy vermicelli noodles, the onions are not fresh, and is a little sour. Service is decent, as expected you have to flag down a server to fulfill requests, but they're super prompt in addressing your requests. Even though we came near closing, they did not rush us, though we did finish wrapping up just a few minutes after. read more

Large intestine of vegetables: pickles are really the finishing touch of sour sweet taste in an instant to solve the greasy pig intestines are fried first and then fried until soft and delicious. Bamboo goose pot: Seattle can't buy geese, so it's nice to order this one every time you go out to dinner, but it's a little too salty to bite the meat. Oyster tofu pot: fried chicken with tofu is soft and tender, but it is a pity that the oysters are not fresh wrapped in a layer of papaya powder oil and fried together, so the meat is very old. Generally speaking, the round table is not bad. Next time, find more people to eat together. read more

The crispy rice noodle dish looked so good in the pictures, but was so disappointing IRL. I ordered the beef noodle, and it was mostly bean sprouts and soft noodle in the middle. There was some pickled veg in it too with 6 or 7 slices of beef in the entire dish. The waiter never came by to ask how it was, because he probably knew I wasn't very happy with it. I'm writing an update for H Bistro after eating from there a few more times. Their food is legit Hong Kong style (a slight upscale from Cantonese style) with a solid selection. Our take-outs during COVID are always on time and well packaged. The staff at the most recent order was super nice and sweet. He stepped far back while we looked at the receipt and approached only after we've put our credit card on the holder. There are plenty of hand sanitizer too. The latest round of food were all excellent - taste, cost, and overall value. - Stir-fried Rice Roll in Soy Sauce - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - Beef Short Ribs in Black Pepper Sauce - Special Crispy Vermicelli - Eggplant and Cod Clay Pot I particularly highly recommend the stir-fried rice roll which is nearly a street-stall food in HK (different preparation but the result is good) and the eggplant and cod clay pot. The beef lovers will enjoy the short ribs. The vermicelli lovers will enjoy the special crispy vermicelli which offers a choice of protein. And if you love chicken wings, this is very well seasoned and prepared. Do give H Bistro a try. They deserve your business. P.S. They left all the plywood up on the outside. They are open! read more

The restaurant was quiet and the waiter was very attentive to us which I appreciated. We ordered the beef chow fun and green beans and chicken in XO sauce. Both dishes were a bit greasier than I would have liked and the chow function fell a bit flat on flavor. The green beans were delicious and crisp, but the chicken a bit too salty. I found myself mixing the 2 dishes to get a better balance. I would try this restaurant again but order some different dishes. read more

In addition, we got ginger & onion beef 葱爆牛肉, half roasted duck 明炉火鸭半只, and Stir-fried Black Fungus & Yam淮山炒云耳 as the veggie dish. The food came almost right away (or it felt like so). Everything was delicious. My absolute favs are 1. the roasted duck and 2. the chicken & pork belly in broth. Very authentic Cantonese food and decent service. Came by for lunch around 11:45am on a weekday and we were the first ones to arrive, whatever, we got seated quickly by a nice lady. They do have a decent sized lunch menu, so we decided to check that out and go from there. Hmm...this looked good, this also looked good, what are you going to get, I don't want to be twinsies and order the same thing, do you know what you want? so many questions in our huddle....ready? Break! We decided to get the Rice Rolls & Green Beans entree off the lunch menu and the Singapore Noodles off the lunch menu. Both were freshly cooked up, came out hot off the wok and only took a few minutes or so to whip up. Rice rolls were good, green beans were crisp and fresh, light sauce, stir fried up....I was going to town! The Singapore noodles were good too, good enough curry flavor, fresh veg and some meats. Both of our lunch entrees were pretty darn good and good sized to share and be quite full afterwards. (your lunch entrees come with a soup too, I recall there only being 2 options, hot & sour soup or something else I cant remember, hot & sour was fine). Prices can range from $7.95 to about $12 off the lunch menu, depending on what you order. Our lunch entrees was more on the higher range of the lunch menu. Service was fine, lady sat us, took our order, brought us our food, checked on us once, ran our card when we re ready to pay, we left. As like most places in C-town, mostly mom & pop run, one person doing mostly everything up front and a few cooks in the back. It definitely got busier when we were leaving. Overall, our lunch was good & tasty, didn't take a our full lunch hour to take the tunnel back to downtown and use the back stairwell to sneak back to your desk before anyone tattles on you for taking a long lunch. Delicious and satisfying! Those are the words that describe the food at this establishment. Everything was made to order and we were so happy this place finally has indoor dining. The fried rice had the wok heat and smell! The deep fried spareribs were crunchy and delicious. I am not a fan of fish and was surprised to see the eggplant stuffed with white fish but the combination was a perfect harmony. The fried noodles were fresh and soft. A lot of variety but the taste is mediocre and could be better. I ordered the house crispy vermicelli with seafood and my stepbrother ordered the stir fried bistro seafood dish. H Bistro in the Chinatown / International District has your usual Chinese staples, but I decided to a new-to-me dish called the special crispy vermicelli.  At first glance, all you see is a dome of crispy noodles.  Then you smell something delicious, peek inside and see the tender stir fried chicken (or beef), green onions, bean sprouts, onions, and noodles in a savory sauce.  I like the variety of textures and flavors; it's definitely not your average chow mein! There are goods and bads for this place. Let's start with their veggies, ordered Pea Vine with Garlic Sauce ($13.95), it smells very good but it wasn't cooked well to perfection. Now I'm not saying everything has to be cooked perfectly because obviously everyone has a different taste/preference in food, I'm just saying because there are other Chinese restaurants in the area that can cook this way better than they can. The chicken was very disappointing because it was dry and there was barely any meat on it (all bones). It also came out pretty cold, like straight from the fridge. The House Special Pork Spare Ribs was probably the best out of all the dishes that I've ordered. It was really good for what I've paid for. Food came out very quick and service was friendly.
