Being that it was right downstairs. One note about service, I don't know if the hostess was having a bad day, or just thought I don't belong here. I felt she was condescending to me. She saw me walk in to the stand. She was busy with a group before I arrivee. Then she's like "I'll seat you in a sec". She goes and sits the group down. I wait about two minutes. She returns, I'm waiting right in front of her. She proceeds to have a full conversation with the other hostess for 1 whole minute, then looks me up and down, and asks me "Can I help you?" If I wasn't so tired from work, I would have left and spend my hard earned money elsewhere. I have tried their chicken parmesan, Giulia ceasar salad with Salmon, and their wine. The pizza is delicious. It's baked in a fired oven. The drink menu is decent. The chicken parmesan was great. I enjoyed the pasta and marinara , and the crispy chicken. We were celebrating our 40th Anniversary so chose this restaurant. our server was less than cordial and wasnt able to answer questions about the menu. we asked for non-dairy options which he dismissed. we ordered the salmon and it arrived very undercooked.and the polenta was like cheese soup. we sent it back and ordered a second plate of linguini- which arrived cold. we had to flag the waiter down 3 times- to order a second drink, get silverware and water refills. They offered us free dessert and we ordered espresso. it arrived cold. when we received the bill we were charged full price for the salmon and comped one order of linguini. They didn't even thank us when they brought the check. very disappointing visit and doubt we'll return. read more

Start with the quick and easy: staff is very attentive, cordial, and knowledgeable. Even if they don't have direct knowledge they have heard from others and can report so it felt solid intel. We wanted time between courses I they were accommodating. The ambiance is both strange and beautiful. Old bank building, beautiful columns and ceiling, very elegant but also a touch loud from echoes. But overall these two were great. Now on to food (I sincerely wish I got pics but we dug in so fast there was no time). Gimlet is very tasty. Not too acidic. Good flavor, sweet but not too sweet. I had two. My SO got a cocktail and she loved it, I tried some and can attest it was really good! Burrata is delicious. Good salty, herby, and sweet. Garlic bread is amazingly delicious; yes on salty side but super tasty. Parparadelle is a rich wine sauce, delish. Noodles fresh. Meat tender. A little salty but not too much. Napoli pizza delicious tomato sauce, dough is tasty and crispy, not enough cheese, was served more Napoli style margharita with cheese and basil as more an accent. Even so, very tasty. Okay. Alright. Let's go! My boyfriend and I went for restaurant week. Wow o wow. The bruschetta was insane! When I come back I am going to get three. It was everything you want in a bruschetta. Fresh. Salty. A little fatty from the oil. Crunch on top with the pistachios. 10/10. The Italian wedding soup was also a favorite. I didn't like the coppa steak. It was very chewy. Almost had a weird 'bite' to it. However the polenta and Brussel sprouts that came with it were great! The atmosphere would be one of another reason I would come back. Clean white marble with plants EVERYWHERE. It was incredibly gorgeous. This would be a great anniversary spot for a special night out. I am for sure coming back for the bruschetta. I'm staying at the Emery hotel for an extended work trip and this is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food never disappoints and it has a great vibe. I highly suggest also trying their newly established brunch. The americano plate and sausages are to die for along with their breakfast pizza. Seeing I travel alone I take service at the bar all the time. Their plated Valentine's Day dinner was amazing! Only complaint is the 2 top tables for couples are waaay too close to one another

A very, very mixed experience here. The seafood cavatelli was underwhelming. It was filled with little bits of garlic, yet for some reason the garlic flavor was entirely absent. The dish tasted overwhelmingly of lemon, which wasn't bad, but the individual flavors of the crab meat, scallops and shrimp were barely noticeable. And it's a very expensive dish -- $34 for a small serving that left me hungry the rest of the evening. The manager stopped by (unprompted by me) and asked my opinion of the dish. I told him exactly what I said above, and he was not only apologetic (which was appreciated), he seemed to be listening carefully to my opinions because he really cared. He actually looked disappointed when I told him that I didn't care for the dish. Everyone's taste is different, of course, and I'm not a professional food critic, but I had the impression he was actually planning to ask the kitchen to fiddle with the dish's flavor profile. I was impressed. He also offered to comp my dish because I wasn't satisfied, but I said that wasn't necessary. Dessert was a pistachio gelato that was absolutely delicious, as good as anything I've had in Italy. The next time I ate here, I ordered the Napoli pizza. It arrived with an appealing-looking crust, but the pizza had virtually no pomodoro sauce, just a few scattered splotches. In other words, the flavor was almost entirely a very bland burrata and mozzarella -- like un-cheesy cheese bread. I asked for red pepper flakes to liven up the flavor, but they were very strange. Entirely lacking in heat, and with a weird soft texture like they'd been sitting in a humid area for a long time. Exactly like the garlic in the seafood cavatelli, the red pepper flakes added absolutely nothing to the dish. My waiter asked me how my pizza was, and when I expressed my dissatisfaction, he immediately offered to have the kitchen remake it. The new version arrived promptly, had a decent amount of pomodoro and was much better -- albeit not the most delicious pizza I've ever had. My waiter was great -- attentive, professional, prompt and friendly. Just like the manager on the previous night, he actually seemed to care about my dining experience. Dessert, once again, was superb -- a delicious panna cotta. And the couple next to me had a chicken parmesana that looked wonderful -- in fact, they told me it was. So I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. Yet I would definitely come back, because they gave me the impression that they cared about their diners and are always trying to improve their food. read more

I returned here with my friend and my partner yesterday! We started with some focaccia and suppli al telefono, and definitely enjoyed both. The gorgonzola cheese in the suppli al telefono was very strong, understandably so. Then we had some entrées. The Napoli pizza was good, and I don't think I have ever had pomodoro sauce before, so it was a great experience. For the cacio e pepe, the pepper flavor was overwhelming while the amount of cheese was slightly underwhelming, and personally I would've loved the other way around. But it was still pretty tasty! The pappardelle was as good as I remembered last time. However, I have to say that the amount of food I was given was way too little to justify the price. I was only given one and half tiny pieces of pork ragu, and very little pappardelle itself. I have uploaded a photo for what I had this time, which would display a stark contrast to what I have had last time. In terms of dessert, both dishes were just as good as I remembered. My friend, my partner, and I were in agreement that our favorite was the chocolate panna cotta. My friend even began to search on Google how to make panna cotta. Overall it was still a great experience, especially considering that the business remained open during a snow storm. But I will definitely recommend looking into a more reasonable food to pricing ratio, if my case this time wasn't a outlier one. read more

I put off my review due to travel. But I celebrated my 41st birthday here with friends and the service was horrible. Jonathan the bartender was amazing. But that was it. My friends arrived earlier than the RSVP of 8:15. I got there at 8:03. I was told the table in the bar area right smack in the entrance was my table. I went to the bar where my friends were already having drinks and noticed a same table but off to the side. I asked could we have that table instead, the hostess said it was fine. At 8:15 we were going to the table when we realized Jonathan is our waiter as well. We order our dishes. I look at the table I had at first and noticed it's set for dinner (napkins dinner settings glasses etc) we hand nothing. I made the reservation a few weeks in advance and stayed it was a birthday dinner. Our meals came out with no silverware, napkins, glasses. We had glasses of water that were on one end of the table that's it. The manager was one of the people bringing out the food and I brought this to her attention. She deflected the responsibility to my group by saying "we" requested to be at the bar. I asked her is my first table not the bar area? She said yes but still had no excuse for why the difference in how they were set. She kept saying I had you a table but I thought you requested to be at the bar. No one requested that. She disappears. I think maybe another manager comes and apologize but still insults me by asking what can I do for you. As if I wanted something FREE. All I wanted was the same treatment as your other guests. The food was amazing but the service and lack of accountability may hinder my return or recommendation to others. We were ready to order for 20 minutes hoping someone would come get our order meanwhile people who came after us were getting their orders. OMGEE!!! That was the first thing I said I was walked into the Emery Hotel from the valet doors. First off you walk into the most gorgeous lobby filled with tropical live plants, detailed stone and woodwork, and the most unique wood furniture! I'm already in awe. . I then turn the corner and see the cutest restaurant with the most New York vibe ever! I was thinking to myself that I can't believe this adorable restaurant is in this building! I never would have guessed from the exterior. So to summarize... the vibe is definitely there! . The food was great too! My first thing was the Fried risotto balls with the little cabbage slaw. We pretty much obliterated that plate. There was nothing left because everything on it was so good! The pepperoni pizza was fine, but didn't wow me. To be fair I'm not a crazy big pizza person to start with though. The wild mushroom risotto was delicious and the rice was cooked to perfection. The pork Ragu pasta was hearty and amazing! Everything I had hoped for and more! Pasta cooked to perfection paired with a perfect sauce! For dessert we had the EVOO cake and the Panna Cotta. It was my first time trying EVOO cake and though it's not at the top of my favorite textures for cake I found the flavor to be very unique and delicious - a great pop of orange and citrus notes throughout every bite! :) I loved the black chocolate panna cotta but must admit it was not as set as I would expect a panna cotta to be. I'd probably say it was closer to a pudding today. However... the flavor profile was delicious! My favorite bite was getting a little bit of everything in one spoonful! This was a birthday dinner for our friend. First of all, our reservation was at 6:30pm. we didn't order until 7:30 ish meanwhile the people that came after us got their food already and on top of that our waiter was very rude. I completely understand that it was a party of 8 however we're still paying customers and deserve respect too. out of boredom we started taking pictures and they told us no which we understood and listened. The drink "La Rose" was disgusting, it tastea like medicine. I never want to come here again. I am not aware of the reasoning behind their actions. Located inside the Emery hotel this nice italian has a basic menu but done very well. Stayed at the hotel several times over the past few months and dined there at least three times. Place can get crowded after work (seems to be a happy hour place) but found can usually get a table. Pizza and pastas are solid and their chicken parmesan is first rate. Only complaint is they charge for bread but that aside not much to say bad about it. Can be a little loud as there are high ceilings and lots of hard surfaces. read more

I was in Minneapolis for a football game and decided to try Giulia because I just love Italian food. The space is well decorated and warm. Also very large with lots of seating. It was pretty packed on Friday night so I recommend a reservation. We got a salad to start and then both ordered a pizza because we love leftovers. The salad was very delicious and fresh. It is a big pet peeve of mine to get a wilty salad so I was very happy with the ingredients here. The pizza was really good - crust was a bit tough but I really love a neopolitan-esque style pizza so it didn't bother me much. If it was not for a terrible lunch I had on the same day, I did not plan to dine here during my MSP vacation. At the recommendation of one of Emery's general managers, I figured I would have dinner here on the last day of my vacation. I spoke with their executive chef briefly before sitting down for my dinner and him being relatively new (started in May 2022) showed in my main dish. I ordered their seafood cavatelli and it would have been a great dish had it not been so darn salty! I saw another recent review about a negative experience with their hostess and the same happened to me - when I made a reservation, she never asked for my name... When I arrived and told a host staff that I was there for my reservation, I was not the least bit surprised he could not find it. Compared to my dinner at Ciao bella, this Italian dinner was a disappointment given that you pretty much spend the same amount of money at both places. So I popped into here during Restaurant Week February 2020 with a few friends and oh boy did we have a good time! The place is in the lobby of Hotel Emery and quite fancy. The decor is on point :) Outside of the Restaurant Week menu, they have table-side fresh pulled mozzarella! Get this! And get the super mozzarella. They give you all the options: speck & rucola, caprese, speciato, and nero. Basically they give you sides of prosciutto, caprese, olive tamponade, etc. It's delightful :) For a salad, I opted for the brussels caesar, which was shredded brussel sprouts, apple, and radish all mixed together with caesar dressing. It was quite tasty. For my main course, of course I had to go with the carbonara. Giulia's pasta is housemade and their black pepper spaghetti was one of the best I've had. read more

Disclaimer: this is a retroactive post, so be considerate of the unreliability of memory. The restaurant is gorgeous; the interior features lots of marble, windows, and open space. This is a perfect place for date night, girls night, or just a fancy dinner. A lot of Insta-worthy backgrounds to take pictures in. They have a really pretty bar island, but I didn't drink during this visit. The restaurant itself is connected to a hotel lobby and coffee shop-- with all three places being recently renovated around 2018. COVID Precautions: Staff and patrons wore masks. October 2020: We went during restaurant week and got the prix fixe meals. One lunch set was $25 for a salad and entree, so it was a pretty good price for the meal. - Caesar salad: I liked the presentation of it. It mostly tasted like a regular caesar with ranch, but what was unique was that they grilled it for a little bit, so the lettuce was soft and had a smokey and cooked taste in some bites. I wouldn't say that it was best caesar I've had bc I would much prefer the fresh and crispy salad, but it was definitely a unique twist added to the traditional dish. - Kale salad: First time trying kale and it was a no for me. The dressing was good-- a nice mix of tangy, savory, and sweet, so it definitely helped to wash the bitter, rugged kale down. I really could not finish it, but at least I now know that I am not a kale person! - Pizza: Best dish out of all that was ordered. It tasted like a yummy, wood-fired pizza. Thin crust and paired with meat and veggies. I felt healthy eating this with all the arugula on it, and the balsamic glaze was great at masking the slight bitterness that comes with arugula. - Pasta (maybe Cacio e Pepe?): Presentation was great, looked very aesthetic (green peas contrast with the yellow sauce + pasta and white cheese). The sauce is very heavy and rich, we were not able to finish it and had to take it home. The peas and meat were just steamed, so it had a basic (if not bland) taste and went well with the rich sauce. It was good, but not the best pasta I've had. Overall, I liked the place. The regular menu of the place is average downtown restaurant pricing, which means it is still an expense, so I would rather pay that amount to try out more restaurants in the area before coming back. Upon first glance, Giulia looks like your modern, ritzy hotel bar and restaurant. To an extent, Giulia doesn't move past that first impression, and leaves a lot to be desired despite some shining spots. Let's start with the good: the tableside mozzarella. At $16 for one style, you can watch and learn how mozzarella is made, as a chef comes by your table and explains the process and makes your mozzarella by your table. It's awesome. I love the mozzarella and it tastes really good - I just wish it wasn't so expensive for ONE style. From there, it goes downhill. The food seems to be heavy handed on the salt, and while I expected my mozzarella to be on the saltier side, I didn't expect everything to share that saltiness. The pizza, while tasty, was salty. My friend's gnudi and even the kale salad was salty. I get it, kale doesn't taste that good, but extra salt is not the answer! The Napoli pizza was good, but I could get a comparable pizza elsewhere for less, so unless you're in the area, and determined to eat at Giulia, I can strongly recommend other options. The service also left more to be desired. Our server, Missy, seemed hellbent on ignoring us. While she circled the tables around us diligently, when it came to our table, she avoided us like the plague. Eye contact was made, and she promptly walked to another table and never came back. We even had to flag down another server to get takeout boxes. We contemplated flagging down someone else to get our bill. I have preface this with I wish I could give 4.5 stars because there were minor things which prevent me from giving it a full 5- you'll see below. What a cute spot! It's located in the Emery and they make it feel like a garden in a palace with cozy seating and an open kitchen. The bar is stunning as well. Our waiter was Chipper (I think) who was really nice, really knowledgeable and very friendly! The service was a tad slower than I would have expected but I suspect this is likely because it was busy and fresh. The food was DELICIOUS! The polenta croquettes were soo good we ended up ordering seconds. Not a polenta fan but man did they pack flavor! We order a Napoli pizza for the stable to share which had a nice thin and crisp crust with a sweet sauce but I was craving a tad more buffalo on there. I had the cappalletti for my main and it was the healthiest I have felt eating pasta! The asparagus and mushrooms with microgreens are so clean crisp and the ravioli with Calabrian chili is like a party in your mouth! It packs just the slightest heat. My husband and our other friend had the Halibut which was in season and it was clear the fish was fresh and done to perfection! The risotto was a great compliment and so creamy! Our other friend had the lamb and enjoyed it as well but it was certainly a heavy dish so he had some left over. In general the portion sizes are appropriate. For dessert we had the panna cotta which was soo rich and thick and went so well with the blueberries! The rosemary merengue was very subtle. The almond frangipane was also delicious with the cake itself not being too sweet but well complemented with strawberry and mint. The drinks were also quite good. We had one small issue in which there was a bug in my husband ice in his drink but they were very quick and kind to give him a new one. He had a friuili in flight which was like an elevated spicy margarita and it was delicious! I had the buongiorno which was similar to a bees knees but not super sweet with the right amount of tart! Our fiend has the ciao espresso which was like an elevated espresso martini! Overall an amazing vibe, delicious food so definitely will be back again and again! read more

You don't realize you are in a hotel. We started off with the pulled mozzarella. This is what makes this restaurant special and unique. I had the angliotti with venison. It was good and not too rich. I tasted the clam pizza (gluten free) and it was fabulous. Next time I would get the pulled mozzarella, a pizza and cocktail and be very happy! No idea this place existed, but low key and great spot! The interior is all very modern and upscale connected to the Emery Hotel. Sat at the bar and the service was great! Cool little touch that I appreciated was that the chef actually cane out and delivered our plates to us! He also split the meals up into two different plates and bowls as me and the lady usually share our food! Picture attached shows the half prorations. The Kale salad had a very light dressing on it, but it had a ton of flavor! Didn't need to be drenched in sauce. All those extra things on top added a lot to the dish. My past was also great! While you chew it you could taste the Pepper seasoning, then as soon as you eat it you get this kick of spicey heat after taste that is not too overpowering and delicious if you like a little spice! First off, this restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. It is centrally located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis inside Embry Hotel. Has an entrance off to the side of the building. When you walk in you're greeted with a gorgeous, classy lush decor with plants and cushions everywhere. The menu is short and to the point highlighting traditional Southern Italian cuisine. As a vegetarian, the main options included a salad, the Napoli pizza and Cacio e pepe and perhaps other items could be modified. I came here for lunch one day and ordered the Napoli pizza with tomato, basil and burrata. I think I found my new favorite spot for pizza. It was absolutely delicious, thin and flavorful! Especially enjoyed it with a side of chili flakes. Also enjoyed the burrata and the drizzle of olive oil over the pizza. Seriously the best pizza I've had in Minneapolis/St Paul. This was a fantastic spot for date night! The setting is super pretty and romantic, and the food was awesome. Innovative Italian fits in perfectly at the Emory I'm Minneapolis. I was planning to grab a table but the bar staff made us feel so comfortable my colleague didn't want to leave. We sampled some small plates and Don't miss the Suppli appetizer. It is similar to Aramcini which I'm more familiar because Sicilian. They are risotto balls filled with cheese and oh so delicious. The pasta was very well prepared and the perfect size. The wine selections was good, the cocktails definitely worth a try and the decor is very boutique hotel industrial.
