I had brunch here this afternoon for my birthday. It could not have been more perfect. Our server Savannah was very attentive and extremely sweet. Her overall demeanor was very welcoming. Slow service. When we were first seated they put us at the bar even though there were open tables and seat people at those tables right after. We were ready to order for 20 minutes hoping someone would come get our order meanwhile people who came after us were getting their orders. We understand it's busy but no acknowledgment of us or even a sorry we are busy made us feel disappointed in the service. Located inside the Emery hotel this nice italian has a basic menu but done very well. Stayed at the hotel several times over the past few months and dined there at least three times. Place can get crowded after work (seems to be a happy hour place) but found can usually get a table. Pizza and pastas are solid and their chicken parmesan is first rate. Only complaint is they charge for bread but that aside not much to say bad about it. Can be a little loud as there are high ceilings and lots of hard surfaces. read more

I have preface this with I wish I could give 4.5 stars because there were minor things which prevent me from giving it a full 5- you'll see below. What a cute spot! It's located in the Emery and they make it feel like a garden in a palace with cozy seating and an open kitchen. The bar is stunning as well. Our waiter was Chipper (I think) who was really nice, really knowledgeable and very friendly! The service was a tad slower than I would have expected but I suspect this is likely because it was busy and fresh. The food was DELICIOUS! The polenta croquettes were soo good we ended up ordering seconds. Not a polenta fan but man did they pack flavor! We order a Napoli pizza for the stable to share which had a nice thin and crisp crust with a sweet sauce but I was craving a tad more buffalo on there. I had the cappalletti for my main and it was the healthiest I have felt eating pasta! The asparagus and mushrooms with microgreens are so clean crisp and the ravioli with Calabrian chili is like a party in your mouth! It packs just the slightest heat. My husband and our other friend had the Halibut which was in season and it was clear the fish was fresh and done to perfection! The risotto was a great compliment and so creamy! Our other friend had the lamb and enjoyed it as well but it was certainly a heavy dish so he had some left over. In general the portion sizes are appropriate. For dessert we had the panna cotta which was soo rich and thick and went so well with the blueberries! The rosemary merengue was very subtle. The almond frangipane was also delicious with the cake itself not being too sweet but well complemented with strawberry and mint. The drinks were also quite good. We had one small issue in which there was a bug in my husband ice in his drink but they were very quick and kind to give him a new one. He had a friuili in flight which was like an elevated spicy margarita and it was delicious! I had the buongiorno which was similar to a bees knees but not super sweet with the right amount of tart! I was in Minneapolis for a football game and decided to try Giulia because I just love Italian food. The space is well decorated and warm. Also very large with lots of seating. It was pretty packed on Friday night so I recommend a reservation. We got a salad to start and then both ordered a pizza because we love leftovers. The salad was very delicious and fresh. It is a big pet peeve of mine to get a wilty salad so I was very happy with the ingredients here. The pizza was really good - crust was a bit tough but I really love a neopolitan-esque style pizza so it didn't bother me much. If it was not for a terrible lunch I had on the same day, I did not plan to dine here during my MSP vacation. At the recommendation of one of Emery's general managers, I figured I would have dinner here on the last day of my vacation. I spoke with their executive chef briefly before sitting down for my dinner and him being relatively new (started in May 2022) showed in my main dish. I ordered their seafood cavatelli and it would have been a great dish had it not been so darn salty! I saw another recent review about a negative experience with their hostess and the same happened to me - when I made a reservation, she never asked for my name... When I arrived and told a host staff that I was there for my reservation, I was not the least bit surprised he could not find it. Compared to my dinner at Ciao bella, this Italian dinner was a disappointment given that you pretty much spend the same amount of money at both places. Good cocktail and the high level of service provided by their wait staff saved my dining experience. read more

I like the rotating menu, but it does make enjoying it hit or miss, depending on if you like what's offered. Upscale but not crazy expensive. The drinks are so good! I had the best glass of wine here. Went here for a bachelorette party dinner and then an anniversary and the staff was friendly both times. OMGEE!!! That was the first thing I said I was walked into the Emery Hotel from the valet doors. First off you walk into the most gorgeous lobby filled with tropical live plants, detailed stone and woodwork, and the most unique wood furniture! I'm already in awe. . I then turn the corner and see the cutest restaurant with the most New York vibe ever! I was thinking to myself that I can't believe this adorable restaurant is in this building! I never would have guessed from the exterior. So to summarize... the vibe is definitely there! . The food was great too! My first thing was the Fried risotto balls with the little cabbage slaw. We pretty much obliterated that plate. There was nothing left because everything on it was so good! The pepperoni pizza was fine, but didn't wow me. To be fair I'm not a crazy big pizza person to start with though. The wild mushroom risotto was delicious and the rice was cooked to perfection. The pork Ragu pasta was hearty and amazing! Everything I had hoped for and more! Pasta cooked to perfection paired with a perfect sauce! For dessert we had the EVOO cake and the Panna Cotta. It was my first time trying EVOO cake and though it's not at the top of my favorite textures for cake I found the flavor to be very unique and delicious - a great pop of orange and citrus notes throughout every bite! :) I loved the black chocolate panna cotta but must admit it was not as set as I would expect a panna cotta to be. I'd probably say it was closer to a pudding today. However... the flavor profile was delicious! My favorite bite was getting a little bit of everything in one spoonful! I will say that olive oil, whipped cream, and chocolate are now one of my favorite combos! A little bit of salty sweetness! . Ambiance alone blew me away! Service was great! The valet racially profiled my family and me, asking us to leave 30 minutes before closing, despite many guests still seated in the dining and common areas. They poured our water before we arrived, which was unusual and tasted off. The pizza was burnt and unappetizing, and the pasta was undercooked. As we were leaving, we overheard a white valet making comments about us, which felt odd given that we are mostly underage. I hope they can improve their service. read more

So I popped into here during Restaurant Week February 2020 with a few friends and oh boy did we have a good time! The place is in the lobby of Hotel Emery and quite fancy. The decor is on point :) Outside of the Restaurant Week menu, they have table-side fresh pulled mozzarella! Get this! And get the super mozzarella. They give you all the options: speck & rucola, caprese, speciato, and nero. Basically they give you sides of prosciutto, caprese, olive tamponade, etc. It's delightful :) For a salad, I opted for the brussels caesar, which was shredded brussel sprouts, apple, and radish all mixed together with caesar dressing. It was quite tasty. For my main course, of course I had to go with the carbonara. Giulia's pasta is housemade and their black pepper spaghetti was one of the best I've had. read more

I was so excited to try Giulia but was so let down! The pictures of the food online looked so good! We ordered the bread to start with and it looked so amazing but had a bland taste. I ordered the seafood cavatelli and they brought out a plate of seafood and sauce.. I had to ask the waiter where the pasta was. They had forgotten the pasta in my pasta dish!! So weird. They eventually got me one with noodles in it lol but the sauce was so watery and just not good. The waiter ended up taking the cavatelli off my bill and I didn't even have to ask so that was nice. Great service & ambience but nothing special about this place. Definitely not going back. read more

This place exceeded my expectation. From the moment we entered I knew it was a great choice! The place is beautifully decorated and our server was super friendly and welcoming. I visited Giulia because I am a cheese lover and wanted to try the hand made mozzarella at the table... and all I can say is I am glad we visited and it is totally worth it! Not only a good and original way to serve cheese but so tasty, warm and delicious!! I would love to go back and order it again! The pizza has such a nice crust that doesn't need to have a lot of ingredients to be good. We tried the mortadella pizza with fontina, pistachio pesto, lemon, mint ... it tastes better than it looks and a good size for two! For dessert we had the cocoa budino... amazing too! Disclaimer: this is a retroactive post, so be considerate of the unreliability of memory. The restaurant is gorgeous; the interior features lots of marble, windows, and open space. This is a perfect place for date night, girls night, or just a fancy dinner. A lot of Insta-worthy backgrounds to take pictures in. They have a really pretty bar island, but I didn't drink during this visit. The restaurant itself is connected to a hotel lobby and coffee shop-- with all three places being recently renovated around 2018. COVID Precautions: Staff and patrons wore masks. October 2020: We went during restaurant week and got the prix fixe meals. One lunch set was $25 for a salad and entree, so it was a pretty good price for the meal. - Caesar salad: I liked the presentation of it. It mostly tasted like a regular caesar with ranch, but what was unique was that they grilled it for a little bit, so the lettuce was soft and had a smokey and cooked taste in some bites. I wouldn't say that it was best caesar I've had bc I would much prefer the fresh and crispy salad, but it was definitely a unique twist added to the traditional dish. - Kale salad: First time trying kale and it was a no for me. The dressing was good-- a nice mix of tangy, savory, and sweet, so it definitely helped to wash the bitter, rugged kale down. I really could not finish it, but at least I now know that I am not a kale person! - Pizza: Best dish out of all that was ordered. It tasted like a yummy, wood-fired pizza. Thin crust and paired with meat and veggies. I felt healthy eating this with all the arugula on it, and the balsamic glaze was great at masking the slight bitterness that comes with arugula. - Pasta (maybe Cacio e Pepe?): Presentation was great, looked very aesthetic (green peas contrast with the yellow sauce + pasta and white cheese). The sauce is very heavy and rich, we were not able to finish it and had to take it home. The peas and meat were just steamed, so it had a basic (if not bland) taste and went well with the rich sauce. It was good, but not the best pasta I've had. Overall, I liked the place. The regular menu of the place is average downtown restaurant pricing, which means it is still an expense, so I would rather pay that amount to try out more restaurants in the area before coming back. This would be a place I'd pick if I am choosing a spot for a gathering or occasion and needed a place that provided a nice ambience in addition to decent food. read more

Was staying at the Emery hotel and was here on a work trip. I was told by my colleagues to try this place as it was so close. I love the interior and it's a great addition to the hotel. Easily one of the nicer hotel restaurants I have seen. The service was pretty good, not too special. I guess I sat in the further part of the bar so I seldom saw employees near me. The real disappointment was the food. The meatballs had decent flavor but were cold inside. After that, I had the pappardelle. To be fair I have been absolutely dissatisfied with most for the pappardelle recently even at my favorite joints. This one was not much better. The pasta was too wide. I mean it was like they took lasagna sheets and paired them down. The meat was almost non existent and the meat that was there was not tender but instead they were like little overcooked cubes of meat. The tomatoes were too strong, almost too acidic for the dish and I really wasn't impressed. I ended up leaving my food. For 60 bucks without any alcohol it was too much. The quality of the ingredients and cold food made it seem like it was reheated or prepackaged. I will definitely not be returning. read more

Upon first glance, Giulia looks like your modern, ritzy hotel bar and restaurant. To an extent, Giulia doesn't move past that first impression, and leaves a lot to be desired despite some shining spots. Let's start with the good: the tableside mozzarella. At $16 for one style, you can watch and learn how mozzarella is made, as a chef comes by your table and explains the process and makes your mozzarella by your table. It's awesome. I love the mozzarella and it tastes really good - I just wish it wasn't so expensive for ONE style. From there, it goes downhill. The food seems to be heavy handed on the salt, and while I expected my mozzarella to be on the saltier side, I didn't expect everything to share that saltiness. The pizza, while tasty, was salty. My friend's gnudi and even the kale salad was salty. I get it, kale doesn't taste that good, but extra salt is not the answer! The Napoli pizza was good, but I could get a comparable pizza elsewhere for less, so unless you're in the area, and determined to eat at Giulia, I can strongly recommend other options. The service also left more to be desired. Our server, Missy, seemed hellbent on ignoring us. While she circled the tables around us diligently, when it came to our table, she avoided us like the plague. Eye contact was made, and she promptly walked to another table and never came back. We even had to flag down another server to get takeout boxes. We contemplated flagging down someone else to get our bill. It's a good start, but in a crowded restaurant scene in the cities, particularly in downtown, Giulia has a long way to go to even compete for diners' attentions and to elevate to more than an overpriced, glitzy, Italian focused restaurant bar in the heart of Downtown. read more

I had the funghi pizza, which was way too large for one person. I had 2 slices for dinner and saved 4 slices to eat for breakfast (love cold pizza) and dinner the next day. I enjoyed the flavor a lot but thought it was a bit too oily. Didn't have room for dessert. Setting was lovely. High ceilings. Very spacious. Servers were very friendly. No idea this place existed, but low key and great spot! The interior is all very modern and upscale connected to the Emery Hotel. Sat at the bar and the service was great! Cool little touch that I appreciated was that the chef actually cane out and delivered our plates to us! He also split the meals up into two different plates and bowls as me and the lady usually share our food! Picture attached shows the half prorations. The Kale salad had a very light dressing on it, but it had a ton of flavor! Didn't need to be drenched in sauce. All those extra things on top added a lot to the dish. My past was also great! While you chew it you could taste the Pepper seasoning, then as soon as you eat it you get this kick of spicey heat after taste that is not too overpowering and delicious if you like a little spice! First off, this restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. It is centrally located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis inside Embry Hotel. Has an entrance off to the side of the building. When you walk in you're greeted with a gorgeous, classy lush decor with plants and cushions everywhere. The menu is short and to the point highlighting traditional Southern Italian cuisine. As a vegetarian, the main options included a salad, the Napoli pizza and Cacio e pepe and perhaps other items could be modified. I came here for lunch one day and ordered the Napoli pizza with tomato, basil and burrata. I think I found my new favorite spot for pizza. It was absolutely delicious, thin and flavorful! Especially enjoyed it with a side of chili flakes. Also enjoyed the burrata and the drizzle of olive oil over the pizza. Seriously the best pizza I've had in Minneapolis/St Paul. We had an absolutely terrible experience at the place. Based on reviews, we broke our cardinal rule of never dining in a hotel based restaurant. Went there for a special occasion, and were disappointed to the core. When we got there, we had to wait for about 7-8 minutes at the check in counter(in plain sight of the restaurant staff). Several people(including two managers) passed by without as much as looking at us. Eventually the hotel receptionist stopped by and got the restaurant staff to pay attention. We were eventually seated, and for several minutes, nobody stopped by. When the waiter finally did, he told us that there were three things in the kids menu, but he only remembered two. So he left to look at the third one. We saw him walk over to two successive parties who came after us. He got their orders, scuttled between them and then made drinks for both of them (waiters make cocktails themselves-there weren't any dedicated bartenders). We eventually complained to a manager who also had been ignoring us. She got the waiter over in a few more minutes, only to take the kids' order out of the two options he had previously told us. Eventually, the kids food arrived 65 minutes after we arrived. Nobody took our orders yet. At that point we had to vocally and loudly complain for them to pay attention. I can go on and on, but you get the point. Service was passable towards the end, as the managers were involved. They comped us two beverages to make up for the delays. We eventually left the restaurant 140 minutes after arriving, still a little hungry, but not daring to ask for more. Food was very average. Deserts were very good(but fairly uninventive). You wouldn't catch me dead in a hotel based restaurant again. Stay away unless you have the patience of a Buddhist monk (and if you are a Buddhist monk, you should first try hanging upside down by a thread to test yourself...). read more

Party of 3 girls- The service was 3/10. The drinks were 2/10, we got dirty Martini's and they were absolutely horrible. Worst I've ever had in my life. The Ceaser salad was disgusting. Would probably rate a 2/10. We split the chicken parm and it was actually okay. That was a 7/10 and we also split the ricotta gnocchi and hated it. 2/10.
