For breakfast, I ordered two slices of their cinnamon French toast, served with two eggs and bacon. To drink, I treated myself to a delicious, beautifully layered tiramisu latte. ​Another thing I absolutely love is their grab-and-go bakery case. It is so rare and refreshing to see so many clearly labeled GF treats, like their Lemon Bars and Almond Cheesecake. Absolutely loved this gem of a breakfast place while I was in Minneapolis for a work trip! I stopped by twice and both times got the tostadas - once with carnitas (my fav) and once with the chicken tinga. They also had a delicious iced banana bread latte on their special menu...the banana bread cold fold was so, so good. The second time I stopped in, I was with a coworker and they tried the avocado coffee...which was interested. It was similar to a smoothie consistency, but was definitely not my cup of tea. The food is delicious, the space is huge for a downtown eatery ! Service was good for a busy morning. One thing to note... the booths have hooks on the outside of them which appear to be a safety hazard. I'm saying this because one of the staff's shirt caught on a hook and they dumped a glass of ice water on me... not their fault... but what if that was hot coffee or hot food or something somebody was allergic to? The situation could have gone south fast. As the staff were cleaning up the mess they mentioned how they had told management about the unsafe hooks, and the person mopping up the floor also caught themselves in a hook... We were visiting Minneapolis to attend a concert and wanted to find a nearby breakfast spot. Hen House was a five minute walk from our hotel, so we gave it a try. The restaurant is quite large and super cute. We were greeted and seated right away. The walls have fun little things written in chalk and it is very bright and cheery inside. We received the menu and waited a bit before our order was taken. We did not need to wait long for our food to arrive. My daughter and I ordered the same thing with slight variations--Two Eggs, Potatoes, and Toast. I chose the Hen Potatoes which were amazing! Tender on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside--not greasy at all. My daughter had the hash browns, which were just as good--not greasy, but perfectly crisp and flavorful. The seven grain toast and jam were great and our scrambled eggs were cooked just how we like. My daughter also ordered a fruit cup, which was filled with a bigger variety of fruit than she expected and she loved it. I ordered a side of bacon and it was delicious. While the food wowed us, our service was just okay. She was polite enough, but did not check on us until we were well into our meal. Thankfully, we didn't need anything. Our check and my payment were dealt with promptly, which we appreciated. We also ordered a caramel roll to go and were very glad we did. Super tasty and not overly sweet. Very inviting breakfast joint in downtown Minneapolis. Staff is very friendly and the decor around the restaurant was quirky and fun. We ordered the carnitas hash, which was filling and delicious. I visited Hen House during an early December trip to Minneapolis. I was able to navigate there through the skyway from my hotel. As a solo diner, they put me up at the bar stools near the check-in. The place was decorated for the holidays. They have mugs with sassy sayings and a whole merch section for Hen House aficionados. I had read that this is a popular spot due to its all-day breakfast, particularly the breakfast cocktails, cinnamon rolls, and Southern-style fare. I ordered a cinnamon roll - the only one available was the berry which wouldn't normally be my first choice. It is huge! Super sweet. I also saw that folks recommended the crab eggs benedict. I followed this recommendation and wish I hadn't - it's not what I'd normally get so I don't have a good reference for how good it was or wasn't. To me it was fine but I kind of wish I'd gotten something else, especially for $23. Overall this place has personality and makes good diner style breakfast food. I'd order differently next time, but there would be a next time if I re-visit Minneapolis. read more

My initial thoughts when I stepped in were that I was stepping back in time. When I worked downtown a decade or two ago, Peter's was the place for breakfast and often lunch. THough Peter's is missed, Hen House has really made the space their own in a wonderful way. I was very pleased with a number of vegan choices on their menu. I ordered the vegan breakfast hash, and it is one of the best I've had in the Twin Cities. The bloody Mary was also good and I really appreciated that they included a beer chaser with it. The food was SO good! I definitely recommend getting your hash browns extra crispy. I tried the avocado latte, and it was pretty good. I don't typically like coffee, but my family is from Vietnam where avocados are used as a dessert food. Keep in mind it's very different to what people are used to here. I had to take off a star because there were random transients walking around inside the restaurant. One of them came up to me and asked me if I was from Shaolin soccer and said he wanted my autograph. He then went on to say Wutang clan a couple times. We stopped in before the Pride Parade this past weekend. We were worried it was going to be busy but we got seated right away and it wasn't crazy busy like we expected. Two of us ordered French toast and the other two ordered omelets. However, when the food came out we were still waiting on an omelet. I finished my meal and a different server came to collect the dishes so we asked about our friend's omelet since we couldn't get our servers attention. Luckily I ate fast and another server stopped by. I got the cinnamon whip French toast with a side of bacon. The French toast was fantastic and I loved the whip cream. I got 3 pieces of bacon as my side of bacon and they were good, your standard bacon. The kicker was when I got the bill and it was $7 for a side of bacon while my French toast was $15. That is absurd for a side of bacon so keep that in mind as they don't have sides and their prices listed on the menu. Overall, service can be hit or miss here but the food is good! They also run out of their signature rolls quickly, so that's another incentive for not waiting; their rolls are to die for. We had the pumpkin cream cheese roll and it was swoonworthy. Henhouse is a favorite of mine. They do breakfast the best way. A great big menu with lots of good options and caramel rolls that are to die for(highly recommend)! Co worker of mine took me to Hen House bc it's his favorite breakfast spot to go to when in town. Plenty of seating inside and friendly staff to greet you upon entering. I ordered the Lupita's Breakfast Burrito and got calorie remorse. There were not enough eggs in proportion to everything else to make it seem like I was actually eating a breakfast burrito. Way too many vegetables in it for my liking. I also didn't care for their red or green salsas - I got both. Service wasn't great at the counter. It took 5 minutes before I was acknowledged and another 20 minutes before my food came out. Also, when I was asked if I wanted guacamole with my burrito, I said "only if it comes with it." It was served to me, so I figured it was included. When I received my check, there was an extra $4.00 charge for the guacamole. I guess I prefer more traditional breakfast burritos, but I do appreciate a good non-breakfast burrito, and this one just didn't taste good to me. read more
