Dave's is great. Downtown Skyway restaurants took a hit, but Dave's has prevailed because they have great food and a really great crew of people that work there. Dave's is packed every day at lunch time . PRO TIP: You can order online and pick up your food in advance. Their breakfast menu is great too ! A fan of their chili, both the beef chili as well as their turkey chili ! The split pea soup is wonderful , as is the broccoli cheddar soup. Totally would recommend this place. Service is really fast and their food is awesome. It's like a fast food restaurant without the fast food ingredients. The burger was pretty good but honestly their wraps are better (would recommend the chipotle burrito). They are very fulfilling and delicious. A solid place for a breakfast sandwich, wrap or salad. The place is beautifuly decorated for the holidays- it is an absolute joy to look around in. There are lots of tables and the service is quick. They also are great at catering boxes (the salads come with bread and a cookie, and the sandwiches with chips and a cookie, and both with a gummy snack). Went here on a work trip and was very impressed by the speed and quality of the meal. I got a Texas toast egg cheese and bacon sandwich and my first bite almost made me wanna move here. The restaurant is a decent size with nice fall decorations (when I went). GET THE BREAKFAST SANDWICH. This place is nice and organized - it may not look like much from the outside, but there's a system and it works. I came by for breakfast and opted for a breakfast sandwich and some hashbrown. The turkey bacon / egg sandwich was delicious - perfectly toasted, and an egg done just right. The hashbrown was not for me, some parts were overly crispy and others felt underdone, but hashbrowns can be hard to do, especially quickly and when there's a line of orders waiting to be complete. I cannot really speak to the service since I got my food to go, but I would drop by again if I were in town. read more

My co-workers and I were all in Downtown Minneapolis for a National Meeting for Target and we decided to go out for lunch together and they asked me where I have never been before. Surprisingly, Dave's Downtown came up. Now a lot of friends said I should try it, but 28 years after working at Target in Minneapolis, I finally tried it. It was pretty busy at about 11, but there was a line out the door when we left at 12. There are three stations to order from, grill, salads and sandwiches and wraps. They have the service down to a science. I ordered a spicy tuna melt with cottage cheese on the side. You can also get French fries or coleslaw. It was ready in about 5 minutes and I got a cup of water. After a tip, it came to about $15, We decided to sit down as a group and the bread wasn't too greasy, just perfectly grilled, almost like they made hundreds of these a day. Instead of a tuna patty, it was tuna salad with some cheese and I got all the accouterments added as well (tomato, pickle, etc.) It was good size and I dumped some Cajun seasoning on top of the cottage cheese, which was a nice scoop and really good. I think it was maybe full fat or maybe more than I am used to, because it was super creamy. I would have preferred a patty of tuna fish and filler, but okay. The sandwich was solid, maybe a tad too much mayonnaise, but it was good. My friend got the turkey club and wasn't a huge fan. Lots of options and I don't need to go back, but I am glad I tried it. read more

I really like Dave's. It has become my go-to spot for lunch since I returned to working downtown. I'd never heard of it before, but it had years since I worked in the area. They have an app you can use to order ahead, so it's easy to get in and out with your meal. You also earn points with each order that get you discounts as they add up. I've had the grilled cheese sandwich with beef chili; the patty melt; the bacon bourbon burger; and more. The only thing I haven't been impressed with is the taco salad. I found the meat to be bland in flavor. I understand that this is probably to accommodate the Minnesota palate, where they'd probably get complaints about it being "spicy". My orders have been correct every time. The staff are also friendly when I've come in to either order directly there or to pick up the order ahead. I haven't tried their breakfasts yet, though they seem tempting. I'm not big on breakfast when it's not the weekend, which is the only reason I haven't given this a shot. My go-to breakfast & lunch spot for the last 5 years! I work downtown & have a very short lunch & a few short break periods through the work day. Dave's is fairly close by & has many choices to offer. For breakfast I love the Monday special - Pancakes. They are fluffy & good. I get regular pancakes but they also offer blueberry (in which they give you A LOT of). I also love their turkey, egg & cheese sandwich on a croissant! So good! For lunch they have a lot to offer. Salad bar - great setup, with protein, fresh veggies & a host of other toppings & dressings. Salad, wraps & soup counter- I love the turkey chili during the colder months. The buffalo wrap is great. Special of the day counter- I love the chicken alfredo option on Wednesday's! I like both the regular & Cajun style. The grill- I like the chicken tenders, grilled cheese & onion rings every from time to time. Dessert- they have really good cookies & rice crispy bars (which are both big). The portions here are large! You get a lot for your money. I can often split my dish into 2 meals. The staff are always friendly and nice. A lot of them have been there awhile & they are good at handling the rushes at prime meal times. They offer complimentary fruit infused water which is nice. I have personally only had the chicken tender wrap with honey mustard on a cheddar jalapeño wrap , but it hasn't let me down! It's a solid wrap and super tasty. I was looking for a decent breakfast after having checked into the Minneapolis Hilton. I saw the high ratings on Yelp and took a shot. First, it wasn't easy to find the place, since it's in an office building on the 2nd floor, so you can't see it from the street. I managed to find it. You have to place your order with the cashier, pay for your food, then sit and wait for them to bring it to you. I wanted coffee, so they told me it was self serve. I ordered one of the specials, a "country omelette" with multigrain toast. While I waited I hit the coffee station. Okay, call me a Northeastern coffee snob, but all they had were creamers and tiny servings of half and half. What -- no milk?? I found the same was true when I lived in Tennessee, the people have no clue that milk goes with coffee, so when you don't offer it, the coffee doesn't taste right. It wasn't very good coffee to begin with but without milk it was dreadful. Then the omelette came out. I was very disappointed. It came out in a box and it was drowning in sausage gravy. In the omelette were hashbrowns, a little bit of bacon, and some small breakfast sausages. The whole thing was a big squishy mess. It wasn't appetizing at all, and it didn't taste much like eggs, just had an overwhelming flavor of sausage and hashbrowns, which really don't belong in an omelette, they belong on the side. As a native New Mexican and current resident of Texas, I know a thing or two about breakfast burritos. It is my go-to breakfast, and I seek it out anytime I am in a place new to me. My advance research of downtown Minneapolis suggested Dave's would be worth a try. Was it ever. The entire staff is warm and friendly, their interactions with customers both sincere and authentic. I could tell that many of the diners were regulars. The place was clean, well-lit, and containing photos that showed off the area. After a short wait, my burrito was ready. Eggs, peppers, onions and hash browns stuffed the large tortilla, accompanied by a fresh & tasty salsa. The flavor was excellent, and you could taste the passion of the cook in every bite. I'm sadly only in town for a week, but otherwise I would try everything on the menu. I would wager that every item is as excellent as the burrito I had. We didn't have any trouble finding a table - all of the tables were full, but there always seemed to be someone leaving and thus making room for the people who had just finished paying, so we were able to find a spot pretty easily. There's several wrap, sandwiches, soups, salads, and grill lines all over the store. It's a bit chaotic to order and pay for your food. I ordered a pesto chicken wrap but since it was so loud I think the server misheard my order and I ended up with a chicken, bacon dried tomato wrap with roma tomatoes, shredded lettuce, cheddar cheese, and thousand island sauce. It came with a pickle and your choice of fruit or chips. The wrap was very good, a generous amount of food in the wrap but the cup of fruit was really small and my lunch totaled to $9. I didn't want to go back inside to clarify my order because it was just way too busy. I wish I got the burger combo instead because it was a lot more food for the same price! read more

Dave's Downtown is great. Huge selection of food. I mainly hit the grill end when I'm there. I'm not a huge tuna fan but every once in a while a tuna melt just sounds like it's gonna hit the spot, and it does. I'm no health nut so I order extra cheese on it and love that they don't charge any extra. What I get is a delicious cheesy tuna mess, and that's just how I like it. Sometimes I just get a plain grilled cheese (which I had always said I would never order in a restaurant) and again they are more than willing to put extra cheese on it for me. One of my mottos is you can never have too much cheese and Dave must agree with me. They also have really good cookies. I like the M&M ones, especially when I have time to look through them and find one that's kind of gooey in the middle. Like I said, this isn't health food but it sure is delicious! It's always super busy during the lunch hour, and I'm guessing you'd have to get there before noon to get a table. I always took mine to go. Dave's Downtown is a Minneapolis skyway restaurant that survived the ridiculous COVID "epidemic". That says a lot considering so many have closed their doors . . . but I have more to add. Today I ordered the Rueben with a bowl of wild rice soup. I waited longer than the others around me. The guy taking orders at the grill ("Dave"???) was paying attention and resolved the issue in a heartbeat. When I got to the counter to pay he gave the cashier the "high sign" that I should get a free lunch! WOW! I only waited about 5 minutes--nothing out of the ordinary for most places, but this place isn't ordinary. I've been coming to this place for about 5 years. They ALWAYS have great food and great service. The deserts are crazy good (got the butterscotch cookie today, yummmmmmy). I could say more but it would all be fantastic and I've made my point. I work in the same building as Dave's Downtown, so I find myself here for lunch about once a week, or so. It has gotten to the point where I crave one of their wraps fortnightly. My favorite (that keeps me coming back) is the chicken tender wrap, with honey mustard dressing. It's simple, but insanely delicious. A big wrap is around $8, and comes with a generous portion of kettle chips, or a cup of fruit, and a pickle. I've also had their salad bar (which always looks nice and fresh), their wild rice soup (very good soup, but overpriced for a cup and a tiny sliver of bread), and their breakfast burrito, which was huge and stuffed with all the best breakfast fixins (sausage, peppers, onions, cheese & hashbrowns). Finally, the staff is very friendly, and VERY fast. Its common to see a line nearly out the door during lunch hour, but the line moves quickly. Its never taken me more than 15 minutes to order, receive my food, and check out. read more
