Named after Francis the pig, a hog who escaped a slaughterhouse in Canada and became a beloved figure.

The Juicy Lucy from Francis Burger Joint is the BEST burger I've ever had! Hands down, it's even better than the ones I've had when I used to eat meat. When I go to new cities, I typically seek out food that is specific to the region and thus a little more interesting to me. You can get a burger anywhere, and a cheese filled patty, aka a "Juicy Lucy", didn't sound like something I needed to try. But my husband kept talking about it and really seemed bent on having one so we decided to come here to try it out. We showed up during their happy hour, from 4-5pm, and they had $5 draft beers. Score! It's a cute place with ample seating, nice natural light from the large windows, and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the Juicy Lucy, a burger patty stuffed with cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and pub sauce. I chose the Impossible patty version, but you can also get it with their house made black bean burger. Hubby chose the Garlic Girl, a black bean cheeseburger topped with bacon (also made in-house), berbere aioli, lettuce, and pickled onion. Each burger came with fries. Both burgers were spectacular and delicious in their own way. The bacon on hubby's burger was incredible, and his burger was rich and satisfying. By my Juicy Lucy, oh my... Every bite was a flavor explosion and intensely delicious without being a gut bomb shockingly. To top it off, the fries were super crispy and just perfect. WOW is all I can say. Note that while the prices may seem a little higher than what you might expect, Francis Burger is a no tipping establishment, as stated on their menu. For the quality of the food and the great service, it was well worth the price! I'll be back if I'm ever in this area again.f

I drove by Francis a few times and always wanted to try it. Personal issue- parking in this area can be a bit rough. I found looking for parking in the neighborhood (closer to Jackson Square Park) and walking 1-2 short blocks over is easier than trying to find parking on busy Central. The restaurant is cute, kind of a retro vibe to it. We got the honor to be served by Brendan who is the co-owner/founder. He was really nice and chatted with us about everything from drinks recommendations, the idea behind everything being vegan including the spirits & mixers they use at the bar, the other location on East Lake Street and more. They started as a food truck and expanded to two brick and mortar's. Seemed very passionate & I love that! My cousin & I ordered the same thing - Francis burger + cheese, comes with fries. I ordered via QR code and my cousin ordered via waiter as they offered actual menus by request. When we were done eating he mentioned something about trying some of the vegan options and I told him the whole menu as plant based and he was surprised because it tasted like an actual burger. The food was really good. I'll definitely be back to try more menu items and drinks.

One of the best vegan burgers I've ever had. Highly recommend the Juicy Lucy, the Lemmon pepper cauliflower, and the house chips and dip. Staff here are nice and make sure you're taken care of. Wish they had one of these in every city.

We got a giftcard for Christmas so dined here recently again and "splurged" on a Lucy, shake, THC drink and some extra bacon. Always a good time. This is the second Juicy Lucy I've had here, the first one was on opening day and it was OK, this one was much better (greasier and slightly hotter). It doesn't burn your mouth like a normal Lucy which I guess is a good thing. I love their changing shake flavors and got the chai this time, it tasted like the Holidays! Food was so fast on a Friday night! Their fries leave something to be desired, I'm just not a shoestring girl and they're so crispy and over salted. Hoping for better upgrades someday. Love you Francis.

First time having a vegan burger and it was certainly one of the best burgers ive had. Sooo yummy. I ordered the Francis with extra pickles Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful. Parking is a bit tricky on the busy street out front. The atmosphere was welcoming and the server was very helpful and pleasant. Im excited to try the desserts and chicken sandwich.

Vibes: Date Night / Food with Friends Food:I had the GARLIC GIRL House-made black bean cheeseburger, bacon, berbere aioli, lettuce, and pickled onion on a brioche bun. No bacon for me. SOOO good. Check out the list of sauces they have. Cost: $15 for burger & fries $7 for mocktail Experience: We sat at the bar and the staff were so nice and service was great. Good vibes were great for date night.

Our plant based tour of Minneapolis continues. Wow this place is amazing. If you didn't know it was a plant based burger joint you'd swear you were eating meat. They do such an amazing job with the ingredients and the variety that you'll be blown away. We did the SPICY FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS as an app and they were so good. Loved the mustard sauce and the plant based bacon. I did the MN SPICY FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH and was happy to see that I could have it grilled versus deep fried. I added jalapeños to the sandwich which made in way more than Minnesota nice intern of spicy. The service was great and super speedy. Love the fact that you can order from the QR code at the table and still ask the staff for suggsetions and help with the menu. Loved it and can't wait to go back next time we're in town.

I love the burgers and fries! The ambiance is open and cutesy. I received great service. Will be back again.

We went with our friends here a few days ago. They knew I did not eat meat and thought I would enjoy a veggie burger from here. I didn't realize that everything served here is vegetarian until I read on their website, "While nothing was killed to make our burgers, that doesn't mean we don't make a killer burger." And their burgers really are killer! So good! I had the Francis Impossible Burger with cheese. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had! My husband had the Juicy Lucy and thought the same -- even though he is not vegetarian! One of our friends is gluten free and they were able to accommodate her, too! I wish we had an opportunity to go here again while in town. Next time!

I'm not vegan but this is one of the best burgers I've had. The service was quick, the waitstaff were kind, and the ambiance was so fun. Definitely a "must visit" on a vegan food tour of the Twin Cities.

Delicious as per usual. You come in and seat yourself--bar, booth, or table. Stick with water or get a milkshake (no Oreo yet!), beer, cocktail, thc/cbd seltzer, n/a cocktail, or soft drink. Impossible patties or house made black bean patty for the burgers. And they come with fries! My favorite part of the menu is the long list of sauces (they should sell them in bottles...just an idea)!

A burger joint that doesn't have meat? How is that even possible? It is at Francis! Francis' burgers are so good you won't even miss the beef! I didn't think it was possible to like a meat alternative this much. This place also has the best app ordering system. Instead of cutting staff they focus on getting that food out to you ASAP. You push the order button and BAMB someone is bringing it out! They also allow you to order from a person if you run into issues. Net result- excellent service! Ambiance is an upscale burger joint - think Matt's but brand new. Great place. Highly recommended.

This place is a cash only place I think. Well, I've only paid cash when I come here for many many years there was a sign cash only. They might take credit cards now MAYBE I'm not sure but if they do they might charge you a kajillion dollars for the fees lol. Just pay in cash. Bring lots of cash cuz you're gonna want to try the double cheeseburger AND the famous Juicy Lucy. I don't ever get the juicy Lucy because it comes out to piping hot and I don't wanna wait 10 minutes to eat my food lol. - Matt's Bar Since…read moreMatt's Bar is one of the two Minneapolis restaurants that claims to have invented the Jucy Lucy, I had to stop in and try it for myself. This is a very busy place, so expect at least some wait. I stood in line for about five minutes, but I was dining alone and was able to take a seat at the bar. Larger parties may have to wait longer. Also, be aware that Matt's Bar is cash only. The Jucy Lucy is clearly the most popular item. The burgers are cooked to order, but the grill is constantly loaded with them. From what I observed, they seemed to be prepared in batches, so your wait may depend on where your order falls in the cooking cycle. Parking was easier than I expected. I found free street parking about 100 yards away. The bartender was excellent, the kitchen staff kept things moving, and there was a decent beer selection. I also ordered fries, and the portions are enormous. A half order would easily be enough for two people to share, while a full order could probably feed four. As for the burger itself, it was good and definitely worth trying for the history and experience. I would rate it somewhere around 3.5 to 4 out of 5. One important tip is to let it sit for about five minutes before taking a bite. The cheese inside is extremely hot and very liquid when the burger first arrives, so it can easily burn your mouth. Giving it a few minutes allows the cheese to cool and thicken slightly. Overall, I enjoyed Matt's Bar and am glad I tried the original-style Jucy Lucy. Between the crowds and the cash-only policy, it is probably a one-time experience for me rather than somewhere I would visit regularly, but it was still a very good stop.

This makes the burger really chewy and you really can't taste the beef anymore like you used to when it was thicker. I would take this as it's not as good as it used to be. It is not as good as the original hype from the beginning. In conclusion, I do not think it's worth the $19. I rather get a cheesesteak for $16 at Tono's which comes with fresh not burnt fries rather than come back here and get a burger here. It's highly unlikely I will be back here. I honestly feel like the burgers have gone way WAY downhill. The fries here have gotten terrible so I stopped getting the fries a long time ago. They are not soft crisp like they used to be. They are too golden brown color, almost like burnt hard fries. I never like to eat down here. I normally would order the Parlour burger upstairs. The basement part which is Parlour has a weird smell like a locker room smell so that's why I don't like to eat down here.
