Named after Francis the pig, a hog who escaped a slaughterhouse in Canada and became a beloved figure.

The Juicy Lucy from Francis Burger Joint is the BEST burger I've ever had! Hands down, it's even better than the ones I've had when I used to eat meat. When I go to new cities, I typically seek out food that is specific to the region and thus a little more interesting to me. You can get a burger anywhere, and a cheese filled patty, aka a "Juicy Lucy", didn't sound like something I needed to try. But my husband kept talking about it and really seemed bent on having one so we decided to come here to try it out. We showed up during their happy hour, from 4-5pm, and they had $5 draft beers. Score! It's a cute place with ample seating, nice natural light from the large windows, and a relaxed atmosphere. I ordered the Juicy Lucy, a burger patty stuffed with cheese and topped with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and pub sauce. I chose the Impossible patty version, but you can also get it with their house made black bean burger. Hubby chose the Garlic Girl, a black bean cheeseburger topped with bacon (also made in-house), berbere aioli, lettuce, and pickled onion. Each burger came with fries. Both burgers were spectacular and delicious in their own way. The bacon on hubby's burger was incredible, and his burger was rich and satisfying. By my Juicy Lucy, oh my... Every bite was a flavor explosion and intensely delicious without being a gut bomb shockingly. To top it off, the fries were super crispy and just perfect. WOW is all I can say. Note that while the prices may seem a little higher than what you might expect, Francis Burger is a no tipping establishment, as stated on their menu. For the quality of the food and the great service, it was well worth the price! I'll be back if I'm ever in this area again.f

I drove by Francis a few times and always wanted to try it. Personal issue- parking in this area can be a bit rough. I found looking for parking in the neighborhood (closer to Jackson Square Park) and walking 1-2 short blocks over is easier than trying to find parking on busy Central. The restaurant is cute, kind of a retro vibe to it. We got the honor to be served by Brendan who is the co-owner/founder. He was really nice and chatted with us about everything from drinks recommendations, the idea behind everything being vegan including the spirits & mixers they use at the bar, the other location on East Lake Street and more. They started as a food truck and expanded to two brick and mortar's. Seemed very passionate & I love that! My cousin & I ordered the same thing - Francis burger + cheese, comes with fries. I ordered via QR code and my cousin ordered via waiter as they offered actual menus by request. When we were done eating he mentioned something about trying some of the vegan options and I told him the whole menu as plant based and he was surprised because it tasted like an actual burger. The food was really good. I'll definitely be back to try more menu items and drinks.

One of the best vegan burgers I've ever had. Highly recommend the Juicy Lucy, the Lemmon pepper cauliflower, and the house chips and dip. Staff here are nice and make sure you're taken care of. Wish they had one of these in every city.

We got a giftcard for Christmas so dined here recently again and "splurged" on a Lucy, shake, THC drink and some extra bacon. Always a good time. This is the second Juicy Lucy I've had here, the first one was on opening day and it was OK, this one was much better (greasier and slightly hotter). It doesn't burn your mouth like a normal Lucy which I guess is a good thing. I love their changing shake flavors and got the chai this time, it tasted like the Holidays! Food was so fast on a Friday night! Their fries leave something to be desired, I'm just not a shoestring girl and they're so crispy and over salted. Hoping for better upgrades someday. Love you Francis.

First time having a vegan burger and it was certainly one of the best burgers ive had. Sooo yummy. I ordered the Francis with extra pickles Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful. Parking is a bit tricky on the busy street out front. The atmosphere was welcoming and the server was very helpful and pleasant. Im excited to try the desserts and chicken sandwich.

Good vibes were great for date night.

Our plant based tour of Minneapolis continues. Wow this place is amazing. If you didn't know it was a plant based burger joint you'd swear you were eating meat. They do such an amazing job with the ingredients and the variety that you'll be blown away. We did the SPICY FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS as an app and they were so good. Loved the mustard sauce and the plant based bacon. I did the MN SPICY FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH and was happy to see that I could have it grilled versus deep fried. I added jalapeños to the sandwich which made in way more than Minnesota nice intern of spicy. The service was great and super speedy. Love the fact that you can order from the QR code at the table and still ask the staff for suggsetions and help with the menu. Loved it and can't wait to go back next time we're in town.

We went with our friends here a few days ago. They knew I did not eat meat and thought I would enjoy a veggie burger from here. I didn't realize that everything served here is vegetarian until I read on their website, "While nothing was killed to make our burgers, that doesn't mean we don't make a killer burger." And their burgers really are killer! So good! I had the Francis Impossible Burger with cheese. It was one of the best burgers I have ever had! My husband had the Juicy Lucy and thought the same -- even though he is not vegetarian! One of our friends is gluten free and they were able to accommodate her, too! I wish we had an opportunity to go here again while in town. Next time!

I'm not vegan but this is one of the best burgers I've had. The service was quick, the waitstaff were kind, and the ambiance was so fun. Definitely a "must visit" on a vegan food tour of the Twin Cities.

Delicious as per usual. You come in and seat yourself--bar, booth, or table. Stick with water or get a milkshake (no Oreo yet!), beer, cocktail, thc/cbd seltzer, n/a cocktail, or soft drink. Impossible patties or house made black bean patty for the burgers. And they come with fries! My favorite part of the menu is the long list of sauces (they should sell them in bottles...just an idea)!

A burger joint that doesn't have meat? How is that even possible? It is at Francis! Francis' burgers are so good you won't even miss the beef! I didn't think it was possible to like a meat alternative this much. This place also has the best app ordering system. Instead of cutting staff they focus on getting that food out to you ASAP. You push the order button and BAMB someone is bringing it out! They also allow you to order from a person if you run into issues. Net result- excellent service! Ambiance is an upscale burger joint - think Matt's but brand new. Great place. Highly recommended.

Upon entry, there's no host stand or sign telling guests to seat themselves. Our group of 3 sat down at a dirty table and waited 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging us or clearing it off. I finally went to the bar to ask if we had a server, and the bartender pointed to a staff member on their phone behind the bar. Our waitress eventually came over to take our drink order, but she didn't bother to clear the table or introduce herself. After bringing our drinks, she then informed us dinner service had ended 30 minutes earlier. This information would've been nice to know upfront! The Rooftop Bar is so cute, great views, and has SO much potential because the space itself is great. I just hope management sees this as an opportunity to improve the guest experience because the service was honestly shocking, and not in a good way!

We came for an anniversary dinner and chose to be seated at the bar that overlooked the kitchen. I know I've said before, but I love this look into the kitchen, watching everything being cooked, seeing all the orders, it's just so fun. We started with cocktails and the Silesian dumplings. Both were excellent. Hubs got the duck two ways and I got the duck burger for our meals. I told him we couldn't go to a place that specializes in duck and not get duck. Both dishes were perfect. The duck confit sauce was delicious and the burger was out of this world. We couldn't turn down a couple of paczeks for dessert too. Service was great and sitting next to the kitchen, got to talk to some of the cooks as well. Overall, great experience at Black Duck.

The exterior is a little unassuming with the patio kind of looks like a family style restaurant but inside it's upscale dark and gold modern chic. THE FOOD Pierogis - 5/5 so pillowy Doused in a butter sauce, delicious potato goodness. A little steep for $19 for 4 pieces, but definitely a highlight of the night. Silesian pierogis - 5/5 the Parmesan leek sauce was a great compliment to the almost mochi, textured potato dumplings. Definitely different than the normal pierogies, but in my opinion, the sauce really stood out for this dish and was well balanced with the pickled cabbage. Pork dish 4/5 - the pork was cooked PERFECTLY, nice char on the outside with a juicy inside, not dry by any means. The sauerkraut plus the mustard sauce was a perfect bite. However, I do feel the mustard sauce is quite overpowering at times so if you don't like mustard do not get this. It does look like a large portion, but I did eat all of it with a little bit of help. I do wish there was some sort of starch on the plate, but better portioning the most pork chops restaurants that I have had. Flat iron steak 3/5 - I was most looking forward to this one after seeing it on Instagram however, the dish somewhat fell short for $40. The steak was cooked beautifully, and the potato pavee was exciting since this is quite rare where to find in the Twin Cities restaurant scene. There was not much sauce on this dish. The small bit of sauce provided, being quite buttery and did not add much to the flavor. The potato pavees were very crispy and a nice inside texture but for me a little bit oversalted, but there was just nowhere to go in the dish for sauce/punchy flavor. I wish there was an aioli/chimichurri to go with the potato pavee and some other type of seasoning like a Mexican seasoning on the potatoes. It's seems the entrees were not very vegetable forward however I feel like for $40 the pork and the steak could have used maybe a few pieces of brussels sprouts or asparagus to balance out their richness. Overall, a very lovely experience. I feel like anything on their menu is worth a try. The waitress mentioned that they do have rotating seasonal items. You won't be disappointed!
