Literally came here on 4am after an afterparty and I have to say, it was more chill than expected. We ended up on the second floor a kind of seat yourself situation and we noticed everyone else who did the same thing seemed confused. I made a reservation but I'm not sure I would bother because no one seemed aware it was there. The waitress assigned to our table kind of disappeared and the whole experience would have been pretty terrible but the bar tender waiting on other tables noticed we hadn't been helped a did a great job taking care of us. Hmmm...this is one interesting place. It has the potential of being good and fun but really misses the mark when it comes to efficiency of seating and serving. The people working there were pleasant, the wait time was 40 min (even though we were able to make a reservation, which was not honored) and it was so obvious that there was limited drive to move things along. Two booths were being used to store dirty dishes vs seating customers who had been waiting over 30 min. Open spots at the counter were not being utilized. There were times that empty tables sat there for 5-10 min before seating people. Our actual server was very pleasant. The food, which also took a long time to come out was above average but two hours was way too long to have been there for the quality of the food to matter much. I'm visiting Minneapolis for a conference and decided to stop in for a bite to eat. It was about 9:00 p.m.. the atmosphere was cute and our server was really friendly. The food not so great. I ordered a bowl of chicken and rice soup. It arrived. Barely warm and the soup for sure was not homemade. It was quite bland and quite thick as if it came out of a can and the correct amount of water or milk hadn't been added. I ordered a side biscuit. It came cut in half and toasted, which surprised me. I have passed by this place a lot and never went in until tonight. Decided to walk over and stop in for dinner. The ambiance is your typical retro diner. Stationary bar stools that swivel, open kitchen so you can watch them cook, and booths/tables surround a odd-shaped horseshoe bar that is flanked very closely by a side bar stocked with your normal liquor and mixers. No frills. They apparently are known for their milkshakes. Service was great. It was only one server that was doing it all and he was managing really well although it wasn't too busy when I was there (Monday evening). I decided to get the "Wakin Bakin Burger" which is just their breakfast burger with an egg and bacon. Overall it was average. I do want to give them credit for the double patty. I had the side of onion rings with ranch. Good size portions overall for the money. Ranch Rating: 4 out of 5. Good consistency. Creamy. Great accompaniment to the onion rings. Been quite a few times, but mainly because it's the only restaurant open as late as it is. Very much diner vibes, and I usually go after 2am, so a very interesting crowd. I will say it's usually a wait to get in and it takes some time to get the food but it is hot and fresh when it comes out and is pretty good. I love that they are open 24 hours. I wouldn't really go here very often, but it is incredibly OK. The ambiance is a fun retro diner. It's decently clean, and the service is a little slow but still pretty decent. The food is good, and the portions are also good. But the prices! OOF! The prices are high. The last time we went, I got the poutine, my husband got the club sandwich, and our daughter got an omelette, and it cost us $80. If you go after 10 pm, you have to pay when you place your order, which is understandable because they have had problems with people dining and dashing. It is clean and fun to people-watch due to its vast windows. The diner has a counter and tables. The staff was so kind and friendly. Yelp had a discount within their venue listing, and the owner (Max) honored it. He is a good guy too. I elected their Club Sandwich and fries, and they got my special requests right, which made me happy after a long travel day. Absolutely unacceptable and discriminatory. I went to The Nicollet Diner with my legally protected service dog, and the waitress refused to serve us solely because of my service animal. The manager then doubled down, claiming it's a "private business" and kicked me and my friends out, as if federal ADA law doesn't apply to them. It does. The behavior from both the manager and staff was hostile, disrespectful, and mean-spirited. Instead of correcting the situation, they escalated it and humiliated us. Denying service to someone because of a service animal is illegal, not a preference. This wasn't ignorance -- it was arrogance. Though the down side is that they take a long time...both times that we've gone, there was either 1 or 2 servers for the entire restaurant floor and it would be hectic with the amount of parties coming in as well. If you have the time to sit and wait for the food or even to have your order taken, I definitely would try them out! We got their Frickles (Fried Pickles), Poutine, and Chicken Wings with Dry Jerk Seasoning. The fried pickles were delicious paired with their ranch sauce. My second favorite was their chicken wings which were huge! It's only 5 pieces but it's including the drum stick and wing together. Overall, their food is delicious and if we're ever back, we'd come back to try their other goodies. The ambiance is an old school diner vibe. There are shows on certain days on the rooftop/upstairs. In town for a conference, just got in hungry and there's a tornado watch so I didn't want to go far from the hotel. The food was just meh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as the price should have demanded. The prices are ridiculously expensive and not worth it. I had the breakfast that was two eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. The eggs were cooked well. They gave a good amount of hash browns which we split, and a generous portion of bacon. But you only got one slice of toast. I visited Nicollet Diner for the first time on a Sunday morning. The exterior of the building is massive. Two stories plus a roof top patio/lounge. Inside you will find Nicollet Diner, Roxy's Cabaret, and On The Rox. The Diner portion of the space is actually kind of small but has a fair amount of tables plus a nice sized horseshoe breakfast bar as well as a small liquor bar. The service was very friendly. Food came in a timely fashion and the server checked back on us regularly. The food was pretty solid. My expectations were higher as I love good greasy diner food. Everything was pretty well seasoned (very salty) but the portions seemed kind of small given the price. Even in today's economy it seemed pretty steep. The fish was flaky and fried well. Not too creasy with a little crispy crust and soft inside. There wasn't a lot of seasoning in the batter but the tartar sauce helped with the flavor. The fires were good. Hot, crispy and soft polity on the inside. The coleslaw was a good accompaniment. The shake was tasty and almost two glasses worth even though I had ordered half. My only complaint would be that they seemed short staffed and I saw my shake sit at the counter for a good few mins and I had to finally ask about it after my meal came to get it. I was stuffed by the end of the meal. I got eggs benedict from the Nicollet Diner. It was pretty good. I do wish the hollandaise sauce was more lemony and less buttery. The eggs were excellent. If you check in here on Yelp there is a coupon, but the people working there said that they didn't put it on there and won't honor it. Was there for a post-rehearsal gathering with friends last night. All I wanted was hash browns and eggs. I was not disappointed. I ordered the loaded hash browns that came with green peppers, onions, cheese, bacon and sour cream. I ordered the two eggs basted. The restaurant knew we were coming so set up a lengthy table for us. I was there 9:30 to 11:00 p.m. Didn't take long for my Lyft driver to arrive and I walked in the door at 11:30 p.m. Still haven't been to Roxy's Cabaret, but will eventually. For a short period of time I dated one of the drag performers before she went off and became famous as the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 1. read more
