What can one say about Keyes? It truly is a go to spot for breakfast across the Twin Cities. I love the downtown St. Paul wine, because it is super close to the Capitol making it easy if you work in the area. Even though it has the feel of an old school diner, one of the things i really appreciated is that they have plenty of options even for vegans. For example, a vegan breakfast hash, which I've had multiple times. You can buy vegan sausage on the side. And there's other options as well. I was trying to eat healthy my last visit so I had oatmeal and blueberries. Also, very good. You really can't go wrong if you need a good hearty breakfast at Key's.

Solid spot for breakfast in the area. Outside of the food, this is a large spot that was quite busy during my visit, but has lots of parking and a lot of space to accommodate the crowds. The large Peanuts figures outside make this worth a visit to take some fun pictures at least once and the decorations are great. The menu is quite expansive with everything you can think of for breakfast, at a little higher but not unreasonable prices. The bakery is also quite stocked with lots of different items though I didn't have a chance to try it on this visit. For the items I did try, I thought they were good -- though nothing exceptional as the menu descriptions imply. The coffee was fairly smooth, not super strong -- but good enough for a morning jolt of caffienne. The chocolate chip belgian waffles were fairly standard with a good firmness and a fairly tasty batter. The apple cinnamon french toast had a pretty generous amount of apples on it that weren't too soft, with french toast that was decently eggy. Both solid preparations, but not super different from what you'll find elsewhere. Overall, nice breakfast spot to visit for lots of choice and for the great decorations, though the food is nothing special.

This is the place to go to get a classic American breakfast in a fast paced diner full of character. Plan ahead to park on the street, or take the green line! I really enjoyed my breakfast burrito - a bit pricey for what it was, though. They had great bakery items that I would like to go back and try. Be prepared to wait, especially on weekends. Lovely part of St. Paul to walk around before or afterwards!

The food and staff is great. It's a cute cafe tucked inside a small mall. Our waiter was a tall gentlemen, very friendly, down to earth. My family and I will be coming back

Keys is classic! I have enjoyed the food at several different locations. I truly enjoy the delicious homemade bread and the jam! It's divine! I typically visit here for the breakfast, but the have a nice selection of bakery items available! The service was fast, friendly, understandable! Typical cafe/bakery vibes!

One great thing that came out of my stay at a local hotel, was I was told to check out Keys Café and Bakery for breakfast. I went to Keyes Café on a Sunday and luckily the time that I went, there was no wait. I was immediately seated even though the lady at the register thought I was DoorDash and not an actual customer (lol) however, I was not immediately greeted by my waitress. I noticed that there was another table that came in after me that was able to order their food prior to me if being able to get a menu. I then proceeded to get up to advise of this mishap, and I was told that my waitress would be on the way. After she finally came to my table, I ended up ordering apple juice and my food. She did apologize and stated that the apple juice would be on the house. I ended up ordering French toast, bacon, and eggs, which you never can go wrong with this dish. The food was great. It was served hot, fresh and cooked to order. The only thing that I did not like about my visit was the service. I even remember the waitress telling me that it was a slow day, which was very unusual for her. So I'm not sure if that negatively impacted her from servicing me, but I had to get up twice to get her attention. Needless to say, I would definitely come back just for the food.

We chose this restaurant randomly and it turned out great. Very welcoming and very busy on a Sunday morning. Loved the team work of the employees. We were seated very quickly. Water coffee arrived quickly. We chose the Cajun breakfast, Greek omelette and the Belgian waffles. Portions for the breakfast and omelette were huge. Coffee is bottomless and tasted good. The cappuccino arrived cold. There was a halogen lamp on top of our table (the third one on the right after you turn left from the entrance) that was flickering and was irritating. Menus arrived probably from a nice wipe! Atmosphere was festive. They have outdoor seating as well. We parked on the street and there was plenty. It's right off the

You MUST get the homemade bread! Absolutely delicious and served with homemade strawberry jam. The corned beef has was full of corned beef and onions. Great service as well. Get a caramel roll to go!

Keys is always one of my favorites for breakfast.... Classic spot! Especially the Robert Street location. Stopped in last night for two slices of cake-- German chocolate and HoHo for my friend and I. The German chocolate cake was the better of the two. Not a ton of coconut flavor but the chocolate cake was great. The hoho cake left me disappointed- did not receive that "wow" from it. Unfortunately, just kinda blah. In the past, I've had the house cake and it's my favorite and would definitely recommend that one. Service I received when I stopped in was great. Gentleman helping me was very nice and friendly. He engaged in small talk. Restaurant was clean and bright. Not busy at all. I'll be back.

    $20 for coffee and pancakes

Hate to give a bad review to a local business, but this place just isn't it. For $4.19 I expected a decent cup of coffee, but it was watery and boiling hot each time it was refilled. Pancakes were a bit pricey and not great, tasted like fast food pancakes. Just a stack of pancakes and coffee was $22 after tip. Probably a result of inflation but still not worth it to me. Ambiance is nice. If the coffee was of better quality and pancake recipe was improved, then they'd be doing a lot better.

I ordered the Nashville Hot chicken and it was incredible. It was crispy, oversized, extremely hot, I was crying after eating it. My girlfriend got the eggs Benedict, which she loved, and I stole some of. The real star of this restaurant is the donuts and spicy cheese curds though. I would literally travel back to Minneapolis just for those. I think I dream about them in my sleep. The vibe is great inside, it's retro, but not in a try-hard way. The bad: Bloody Mary's were flat and expensive $13 each. No depth of flavor, thought we would give them a second chance. . Ordered croquette madame. Egg was severely undercooked - the egg white was gelatatinous and the bread way too thick, ham fatty and subpar, where were you Béchamel? I took a bite of my breakfast and he hands me a box at the end when I asked for the check--not asking if anything is wrong. Two bites out of the spring mix salad and sandwich. Bloody Mary full. $70 for a salad, madame croquette, slow service which is no problem. It's a tiny diner and around lunch time. No worries there. But uncomfortable dining service because we could feel the tension between the server and bartender. Again for me? NBD but my daughter did not appreciate this. The good: the Mediterranean salad was delicious according to my daughter. She had the same thoughts about the Bloody Marys. Super cute beer backs- pony miller high life. I brought the croque madame home and my son loved it. Went on and on about how amazing it was. In all fairness my adult kids loved their food. He did microwave it to cook the egg through. Yes I know I am picky because I worked in the restaurant industry for over 22 years. And I can make better food at home. I just expect a bit more if I am going to drop $70 for two lunch entrees and two drinks. Not including the tip. Bottom line: I would not go back for this very expensive diner that doesn't know how to properly cook simple things. Or chop veg. Or make a drink.

It is the breakfast-diner equivalent of a crowded subway train at rush hour. This place is basically a counter with about a dozen stools, and they serve breakfast staples every morning. There is no room behind the stools, and yet because people think this is a fun experience they wait in a line behind the stools. They sometimes move the stool people to different stools mid-meal to strategically fill stools with the stool-waitbehinders. It is a challenging experience. The food is not good enough to make up for the effort it takes to be here. In the past I've gotten normal, acceptable eggs/bacon meals. This time I got Eggs Benedict with nice, tart sauce. The eggs were a bit overdone, which is fine if you're not someone who likes a runny yolk situation. I also got hash browns which, on their own, tasted like they were steamed in bilge water. Most people probably put lots of ketchup or hot sauce on them. But you're kind of there for the experience. And it is an experience of cramming yourself in with hipsters and tolerating surly cooks who urgently shout to each other - right next to you - about needed ingredients while occasionally shaming you for not waiting in line correctly. The ambiance is not the slightest bit boring. If this review doesn't scare you away you will probably love it.
