Have had a great past few visits to Red Cow! This smaller well decorated restaurant has had some really good food. Have been for dinner and brunch and theater have been perfect. Can't wait to go again soon.

Steak Frites. Patty Melt. Side Sweet Potato Fries. Creamed Corn. Macaroni & Cheese.

Come here at-least once a week for either happy hour or dinner. Overall, the food and drinks are pretty good and consistent. The customer service is attentive as well which I appreciate.

I hadn't been to Red Cow in a while, so I was surprised to see the menu change. They added a few new items I'm excited to try, though. Tonight, we ordered the 60/40 with sweet potato fries and the Patty Melt. Everything was great, except the sweet potato fries weren't as crispy as I would have liked. The restaurant was pretty empty, so we grabbed a seat right at the bar, and the service was great. They even offered us the Valentine's Day specials a day early. We didn't take advantage, but the s'mores looked pretty tempting. We love the beer selection at Red Cow--there are always plenty of options.

St. Paul is filled with many eateries but this one is a great one for locals and tourists. We had the cheese curds, which of course were delicious. For entree we chose burgers. Can't go wrong with any of their options. I will say, it is very busy inside and outside. Come prepared with a lot of patience. We had some difficulty finding parking, but we managed to find a spot around the corner. Inside it's roomy with a bar on the first floor. There is a second level with more space to dine. Definitely worth a stop on your trip.

    Nice wine menu!

I really liked the lights and overall vibe there. The food was great! Service was a little slow but it was busy. The only downfall is that it was really loud there.

Fun Happy Hour! We tried all of their HH Appetizers and had a great time admiring their classy holiday decor. Highly recommend their SLIDERS and STRAWBERRY FRESNO MARGARITAS. Service was top notch! We stayed extra long and ordered another bottle of wine and our servers never hurried us. Happy Hour things we tried: CHIPS & DIP - (4/5) sour cream based dip was fabulous with house fried potato chips AHI TUNA CRISPS (5/5) beautiful and flavor packed! Highly recommend. OYSTERS (3/5) average. Loved that this was an option for happy hour. LETTUCE WRAPS (4/5) substantial amount of chicken skewers with a peanut satay sauce and crunchy crushed peanuts. TRUFFLE FRIES (4/5) pretty good but this was the only app we didn't finish bc everything else was so good. SLIDERS (5/5) we tried both the double barrel and 60/40 flavors and they were equally delicious. RED WINE (3/5) standard but a nice price at happy hour. STRAWBERRY FRESNO MARGARITA (5/5) both beautiful and delicious, served in a cute cactus shaped margarita glass. The only app we skipped was BUFFALO CAULIFLOWER... bc who needs veggies at happy hour?

We needed somewhere to eat and this restaurant was a few miles away. Because it was early for dinner we were immediately seated. We were upstairs. Our waitress was amazing, attentive and knowledgeable. I had water and my husband had beer. We decided to have an appetizer, split a salad and then split a bowl. The kitchen actually sent our salad and bowl out already split. The food was well seasoned. I loved the spice they added to the apple Brie toast. Both the salad and bowl were so good. I would definitely come back. There were a few more things on the menu I wanted to try. The decor is cute with the cow theme. If it's possible I would make a reservation. They were really filling up as we were leaving.

My sister-in-law had her Naturalization ceremony in St. Paul so we wanted a place to eat afterwards. I had heard the Red Cow was known for its burgers so we chose it for Arlin's brother who was in town from Vancouver. Glad we were able to find parking in the small lot! This venue has an outdoor patio which we considered but it was a little too humid. The service - once they made a table for 8 - was exceptional. Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive. Cheese curds for the table were a hit! My hubby and niece had the 60/40 burger (beef & bacon) and while they liked it, the candied bacon topping was a little too sweet. The burgers are thick so if you like a beefy patty, these are for you! The grilled cheese I had was the best I've eaten in a long time. Overall a successful outing!

I recently checked out Red Cow on Selby in Saint Paul, and this place was a vibe! I never knew it had two floors, so it was pretty nice to dine on the second floor for my date--it was a bit quieter up there. I started off with the ahi crisps, which were sooooooo good! I was tempted to order a second round, but I realized I had to save space for the burger. I don't recall the exact burger I had, but I remember the bacon on it was delicious! This location was great overall. Service was good and our waiter had great recommendations. Parking can be challenging sometimes since it's street parking, but I'd definitely go back!

I'm from California. Stumbled upon Red Cow a few years ago while in town for a conference. Always good. Always great servers. Great drinks. And the double barrel burger is top notch. This was my first time at this location and it lived up to the others. We walked in at 5:30 and it was already packed. Great vibes and great food.

It's like a sports bar feel on the main level with additional seating upstairs. Burgers are fantastic, very juicy, one of the best that I've had I think - and I've had my share of yummy burgers. . Service was kind of slow - not sure if it's a result being upstairs, but we also had a ton of orders as well with our larger group. I think it's generally kid friendly on the upper level - they do have some high chairs etc available. They kept the kids busy with some crayons for drawing.

This is one of the best grilled cheese on any menu in town

I can never say enough about this restaurant and this location. The service is always great and I love the fact that you could go in here anytime of day during business hours and find anything on the menu whether it's for A business lunch, for happy hour during the game or for date night. This particular time I went for a quick lunch and what better for a brisk Fall Day then grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. But this was not like any other grilled cheese and tomato soup.. This creamy tomato basil soup was so rich, creamy and flavorful and the grilled cheese... Well it had at least two if not three cheeses perfectly grilled Texas toast and the most perfect crunch of bacon It was the perfect comfort meal if there ever was one. I would highly recommend trying this duo out!!

Tried the pornstar martini! A refreshing fruity martini. Would be better in warmer weather!

I have been here two times in the last week and lemme tell ya.. this is quite the spot. I do suggest making a reservation because everytime I go here it is popping! What a vibey place, the lights aren't too bright, it gives a hip, fun, light energy and is not too pretentious but has INCREDIBLE FOOD AND DRINKS. Right now, one of their specials is whitefish toast.. if you enjoy fish at all, you need this. The fish is light and fresh, they put fresh dill on top and it is placed on top of some toasted sourdough bread perfectly. The fish is flavorful, a lil earthy and I feel as if there are capers or olives in in the fish mixture, whatever it is is fire! The burrata, beets, and citrus is a nice lovely, fresh, light app, the burrata is perfection with the beets and fresh, juicy citrus, drizzled with some oil and random pieces of garlic mixed in, YUM. I suggest ordering bread on the side with this one! The wings here are a staple and always delish. Crispy, hot, and coated perfectly in a light sweet chili sauce.. they hit the spot everytime. The housemade ranch is a perfect dipper. The other day I tried the chorizo and scallops... oh my goodness gracious.. it was a lil spicy and creamy with the bean puree and the scallops were buttery, light and divine! 10 outta 10 would do again. Finally, got the goat cheesecake, gluten free ginger snap crust with poached pears. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I want this now and in every lifetime! The cheesecake was light, yet decadent, deep, creamy with a light, unassuming flavor. The crust was delicious and the poached pears added that perfect fruit component. I got Liam as my server both times, he was helpful, attentive, had good suggestions when asked questions and didn't interrupt at all, amazing! This is the spot for any occasion!

It is in the Mac-Groveland neighborhood so there is ample street parking nearby if you turn on any of the side streets. The restaurant does get busy at dinner, so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. They have many unique options for cocktails and mocktails. I opted for the Slaychel which is a non-alcoholic beverage that I think of as an elevated mimosa. It is fruity, slightly tart, and delicious! The service was great! Our water was frequently refilled and never got empty, and our server asked about any allergies and dietary restrictions before we ordered. They were able to modify menu items to fit the different dietary restrictions! Two people in our party (including myself) are vegetarians and one member is gluten-free and also doesn't consume much dairy or eggs. They were able to serve the patatas bravas with the egg on the side and the grilled asparagus with the egg and cheese on the side so we were able to all share the starters. The patatas bravas were wonderful! The potatoes are perfectly crispy but still fluffy. The tomato sauce was slightly smokey and had a very slight kick (think Minnesota spice) and it balanced out well with the creamy tomato. If you're only going to try one appetizer, this is the one to try! The asparagus was also nice. The salsa verde had a slight kick (a bit more than the tomato sauce from the patatas bravas, but not super spicy. Still Minnesota level of spice). The shallots also added a nice crispy texture to the dish! The egg really stood out in this dish, with its runny yolk and batter coating. There were a lot of nice elements and textures. As for pastas, I split the Spaghetti and Radiatore with a friend. The Radiatore was nutty and tangy, and the serving size was generous. I enjoyed it, but I would order the Spaghetti over it any day! I don't even know how to describe the Spaghetti and do it justice. It was creamy, cheesy, delicious. Our server said it was a staff favorite, and I understand why. If you're looking for a vegetarian option, go with this one!! Even if you aren't a vegetarian, give it a try. It's so classic, and it's done so well. For dessert: they give free churros when you're dining in! They are served warm with a chocolate drizzle. We also ordered the Honey Cake which we enjoyed a lot! The cake itself was light, like a mousse. There was some crunch from the hazelnut praline and honeycomb toffee pieces. It was nutty and sweet but not overly sweet. It was a perfect way to finish off the meal! Estelle was delicious and the service was great! I can't wait to come back!

I was in St. Paul for 5 days and spent 3 of my dinners there. N/A beer selection was a nice plus. They carry an impressive line of Tap beers from all over the country and their kitchen backs its reputation with great quality food! (Full bar, plenty of liquor and a great wine selection also) There's plenty of outdoor seating available also along the street, which is an open-air compliment to the restaurant. TV's cover every spot you could ask for, with a MONSTER main screen on the bar wall.... Not sure its size, but it would be calculated in feet, not inches! There is not a plethora of options in St. Paul for restaurants, especially in the downtown area. The Pillbox is walking distance to the Grand Casio Arena which is fantastic and most downtown hotels are only a 5-7 minute walk away. I spent 19 years in the restaurant business. From doorman, to buss boy, server, to bar tender, bar manager to general manager, I've managed restaurants similar to the Pillbox Tavern. I openly and publicly give them a huge shout out for their customer service, food quality and atmosphere....and additional kiddos for the upbeat environment their staff portrays. If Jen and Chad ever move to Chicago, they could write their own tickets In restaurant management or ownership. If you're looking for a place because your visiting, this is YOUR ONE STOP SHOP! If you are local and haven't tried it yet, you need to establish a new watering hole! If you're lucky enough to meet regulars like Tony and his wife at the bar, you Might just be rubbing elbows with some of the nicest people in St. Paul! Cheers to enjoying a smile on the rocks with new friends at The Pillbox Tavern. -Brad

Great spot for a lovely dinner in downtown St Paul. My friend and I sat at a high top table on the…read moreedge of the inside portion of the restaurant. It was a drizzly evening so we opted for inside but with garage doors were all open. Our waitress was great. She was helpful and nice. The food/drinks were quickly served to us. I ordered the margarita (comes with a buzz button) and the Big Bang Shrimp Tacos (gf). Everything was absolutely delicious! The tacos are served on corn tortillas (3). The sauce on the tacos is to die for. Marg was great and came with a buzz button which I've had before elsewhere but that was a fun addition to my cocktail. It kind of tingles the inside of your mouth when you chew on it. It lingers for a couple of minutes (the tingle sensation). I'm looking forward to coming back cause their menu looks ahhmazing. Cheers!
