Shocker I haven't left a review for here. This is one of the best hole-in-the-wall places this side of town. Burger prices (and the burgers too) are amazing. Beer and drink specials. The place is always busy, and if you know, you know. Soups? They're always house made. New owners have taken over and I know people were initially concerned cause change is change. But you know what? Shantytown was exactly what I wanted it to be. Dive bar vibe with good food, slightly growly waitress, and fast service. Three of us came on a Friday night around 6:30 and were seated immediately which was a big surprise, seemed like we beat the rush. Drinks: for the love of god, get the root beer in the frosted mug. So good, made me feel like a kid again. Apps: shared order of fried pickles. The pickles were pickle chips, not spears (if that matters to you). Hot and juicy and freshly fried. Traditional and satisfying. Dinner: I got the Reuben which was only okay. The pastrami tasted cheap and rubbery. The bread was pretty soggy. Visited 1/7/25. Shantytown is forever a hidden gem. Never skip on a burger here (I do the basic cheeseburger but they have fun unique options and specials too. They do a great job and have AMAZING buns. Such a fun dive with so much character and food that never disappoints. On this occasion got onion rings and they were nice and crunchy and golden. We were served our drinks and placed our order within 5 minutes of being there. Food came out fast and was freshly prepared. I ordered the Mexican burger and loved the jalapeños on it. My boyfriend ordered the pepper burger and enjoyed it as well. Tots are a must! Shantytown gives dive bar vibes! 110% chance I'll be back! Vibe is good, place is clean. Wait service is very good, friendly servers, food comes fast (almost too fast, if that could be a thing). However quality and prep is just mediocre. Our table ordered all different things. A Reuben which was served wet (soggy) and the meat was a processed sliced product that was maybe intended to be corned beef (read lunch meat). I ordered a Rachael and the turkey was a very low grade processed sliced lunch-meat. Also served totally soggy. Like wet. Like dripping liquid with a pool of liquid in the bottom of the basket. The kitchen staff needs to pay attention to how they plate up their food. Tots were great. Seasoned sour cream could use some love - it was super salty (like read salt bomb) with some kind of minimum spice. I guess you do call it seasoned, but I think they could do MUCH better. A chili cheese burger for one person and they said it was OK but kind of tasteless with just the very minimum of chili and sour cream to get by calling it a chili cheese burger. He said it ate dry. It did look every bit that. The 4th person ordered the wild rice soup and onion rings. Soup was special of the day and it was very good. Rings were very good. Based on the soup I *THINK* they can do some scratch cooking, but for the most part is appears that their food is unpacked from a Sysco truck, re-heated and served. If they want to serve things like corned beef or turkey they need to VASTLY improve the product - maybe cook a turkey or corned beef rather than peel open a package of lunch meat. Prices are good for the quality. Pull tabs (always a plus). Would we go back? Maybe, but I'd look seriously at the soup selection for the day. read more

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a beer, a burger, and some good conversation in a cozy atmosphere. This is the perfect spot. Low key, friendly service, and you can see and hear the burgers frying up in the partially open kitchen. I got the Bailey Burger. Green olives and sour cream atop a classic crumbly bar burger with a side of plain fries and seasoned sour cream. Topped off with a few rounds of Castel Danger Cream Ale and I was satisfied! The waitress was super sweet and gave me a second beer for free, as it took a while to place our food orders. Parking is in front of the place but it is a busy place so parking can be difficult cause the lot may be full Cool little bar that is very busy, it's like a dive bar that went right with great food and service. They have local beer and interesting beers as well. FRIED MUSHROOMS- Comes with ranch sauce and deep fried. Come on is hard to mess up deep fried food, only if the middle is cold and that happened to one of the mushrooms I ate but over all they were pretty good. SHANTY BURGER - it seems to be the party favorite, specially when it come with onion rings. I ordered one but I asked for a fried egg to be added, funny enough she tough I said fried onions idk how but ok. So I waited a bit more for the egg and get my meal, once it finally came I was pretty happy, it was a great burger, no wonder they are so busy. The server was nice but felt she was in a hurry as when I asked for season sour cream she had already moved on to the next person for ordering. Ordered the cheesecurds which were ok. They are breaded which I normally love but these were a bit chewy, felt like there wasn't enough cheese in them. Maybe over cooked so the cheese came out. Got the patty melt upgraded with onion rings and a cheeseburger with dble cheese upgrading to fries. The fries were skinny like McDs the burger was good. The patty melt was good and onion rings were very good. Overall everyone at the table enjoyed there food. The waitress was friendly and had no issue splitting the check. They could use a better craft beer selection, but overall it was good. We never would of found this place with out using Yelp. read more

This is the place to go if you want your private business blabbed all over town! I was there and heard patrons talking about other patrons. I heard one of the owners yell at a cook in front of other staff and patrons. The pulltab sellers like to tell other players how much you've won or lost. My wife's Mom and Dad go to this place by their house a lot. It is reasonable and it was packed about noon on a Saturday. The parking lot is really small and fits about 10 cars. We entered and sat ourselves down in a booth toward the corner. I ordered a Surly First Ave. Tap. (I got a Finnegan's Dead Irish for a second beer, which was really good) They had a ton of stuff that looked good on the menu, but I went with the Rueben and a side salad with Cajun Tots. About 10 minutes later, our food came out and the Rueben was a little shy on the corned beef, but the sauerkraut was delish. The one at The Local is better though and the tater tots were good, but they came out a little cold. They would have been fantastic. The side salad was your basic iceberg lettuce and the blue cheese was chunky and full of penicillin goodness. Our waitress was very nice and refilled my wife's Diet Coke multiple times. I would like to try their burger and Philly Cheesesteak in the future, but I don't need to go back. I think my expectations were way too high. read more
