We loved our Shantytown experience! our burgers were perfect, the Cajun tots also a slay, and customer service was excellent. I would recommend you check out this plac! read more

Great burgers!!! I absolutely love battered onion rings do I had to sub those for fries. The location is a bit odd as it seems off the beaten path but well worth it. Anytime I can get guacamole on a burger I usually do it. Service was friendly and a lot of regulars came in and I felt like the only diner who didn't know the life history of the staff. I'll definitely be back read more

Who knew this was here?? Small parking lot, and local dive like vibes. We stopped in for lunch during the week and sat ourselves. The waitress didn't appear to be loving her life that day but it happens. She answered all of our questions on the menu and we went with a wrap and a burger, plus cheese curds to start. Food was good, exactly what you would expect when you walk in. I will say this place is super busy, for it being a bar in the middle of the day- you would have never known. By the time we left the place was popping and there was no where to park. The avocado burger was good, I did a side of onion rings and everything hit the spot. I liked that we were asked if it would be one check or two as soon as we sat down vs. having the awkward conversation later. read more

Shocker I haven't left a review for here. This is one of the best hole-in-the-wall places this side of town. Burger prices (and the burgers too) are amazing. Beer and drink specials. The place is always busy, and if you know, you know. Soups? They're always house made. New owners have taken over and I know people were initially concerned cause change is change. But you know what? Things are all good and if you haven't been in a while, you wouldn't know the difference. A true hidden gem in Bloomington. read more

A+ for service. We were seated quickly, food came out faster than ripping $20 worth of pull tabs, and the staff were all friendly and fast. Food was very tasty bar grub. Burgers, fries, and Mac n cheese bites. All great and reasonably priced. I went for lunch on a Saturday and it was quiet. Great gem! read more

Great classic all American bar. Burgers, beers and waffles fries with season sour cream. This place has been a staple in Bloomington since I've been a young boy. Go check it out during the lunch hour. read more

Shantytown was exactly what I wanted it to be. Dive bar vibe with good food, slightly growly waitress, and fast service. Three of us came on a Friday night around 6:30 and were seated immediately which was a big surprise, seemed like we beat the rush. Drinks: for the love of god, get the root beer in the frosted mug. So good, made me feel like a kid again. Apps: shared order of fried pickles. The pickles were pickle chips, not spears (if that matters to you). Hot and juicy and freshly fried. Traditional and satisfying. Dinner: I got the Reuben which was only okay. The pastrami tasted cheap and rubbery. The bread was pretty soggy. Next time I would get a burger because everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs. Fries were good. I'll be back. I know what to order now! read more

I have visiting Shantytown for over 30 years. Big change in food quality. The bacon on my hamburger was not cooked through. Tots were smaller than normal. Guessing they are cutting corners by low quality food. Waitress was stressed out which eventually stressed us out. Going to think twice about visiting again. I hope the new owners read these and realize there are unhappy customers read more

Always friendly service. They offer a daily soup that is usually quite interesting. I have really enjoyed some of their creations. They carry Summit EPA - Yea! Good burgers and sandwiches, reasonable prices. Parking can sometimes be a challenge as my wife is disabled and requires something close, but we always seem to make it work. read more

Visited 1/7/25. Shantytown is forever a hidden gem. Never skip on a burger here (I do the basic cheeseburger but they have fun unique options and specials too. They do a great job and have AMAZING buns. Such a fun dive with so much character and food that never disappoints. On this occasion got onion rings and they were nice and crunchy and golden. Bit thinner onions but they made for a not overly filling app. read more

Food was tasty but I have never felt so unwelcome in a bar. So many eye rolls her eyes will be stuck in her head. Three different staff nearly had a stroke because we had multiple people in our party. We could not move tables together. Never asked about how to separate the bill so presented one large bill and had a fit to split them. read more

We've kind of decided to give Shantytown a break from our rotation of burger places. The food is simply declining. The staff is fantastic. The place is very clean. But the menu is tired. The quality of the food declines every time we go (which used to be weekly, then monthly, then bi-monthly, and now, well, time for a break. I'm sure they are now ordering from the bottom tier of Sysco. Cheapest quality beef for burgers, cheapest quality fish for fish&chips or a sandwich. Bottem tier "deli" meat for sandwiches. I'm sad for them. We'll try again in 5 or 6 months, but I'm not holding out much hope. read more

Excellent burgers and fries. The service was spot on. The prices are ridiculously low for the quality of the food you get. Better than the nook in my opinion. read more

Quaint, small town feel little gem of a restaurant. Nothing fancy, just good bar food, good prices, and great service. Brandy was our server and she was a delight. Attentive, friendly, and and nice. We will definitely be back. read more

This is a great dive bar. The food and service are great. And Monday go senior day. Got a 10 % discount. For being old.

This is a special place on Bloomington and we like it. Food is consistently good; usually just burgers and fries, but good and served hot. Server was helpful, we had newcomers with us, and she as on top of our needs. We like the casual experience. read more

Loved the cozy small town atmosphere and the service was great!! Only problem is they really need to season the burgers when cooking. All they need to do is add salt and pepper. Burgers just didn't have much flavor. read more

Awesome food at awesome prices. Buffalo wings were a good size and tossed in plenty of sauce. Good spice level too. Burgers tasted fresh, not frozen. Bacon had a great smoky flavor. Service was amazing, super friendly, attentive and quick. (Even gave us a decent size sample of the soup to try!). Super cute inside as well. Ambiance gives throwback vibes to the 80's while still being modern. So glad we found this gem! read more

Simple, fairly priced place to get good food. Very relaxed. Really don't have anything that isn't positive to say about shantytown.

I am very familiar with Shantytown grill . Actually since the 1980s.. Oh , it's changed hands a few times over the years, but, still great food at extremely reasonable prices. Also, they have the best root beer in an ice cold beer mug. Don't take my word for it see for yourself. . read more

Shantytown Grill is the best burger spot in town! Stopped in on a Saturday night and snagged a booth no problem. The service was on point. We were served our drinks and placed our order within 5 minutes of being there. Food came out fast and was freshly prepared. I ordered the Mexican burger and loved the jalapeños on it. My boyfriend ordered the pepper burger and enjoyed it as well. Tots are a must! Shantytown gives dive bar vibes! 110% chance I'll be back! Note: bigger groups aren't as easily accommodated, as the space isn't super big. Best for small groups! read more

solid dive bar and burger joint with reasonable prices. don't go here looking for anything fancy or craft burgers. they're meaty, greasy, and just plain tasty. pair it with a brew, and you've got yourself a quality meal. waitress was very personable and quickly fixed an issue with our order. the fries came out kind of cold and she brought us a fresh basket of hot and crispy fries. parking lot is VERY small, but there's plenty of street parking available. read more

Perfect dive bar atmosphere. Low light. Chill vibe. Families and solo barflies alike. Small parking lot, residential street parking. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a beer, a burger, and some good conversation in a cozy atmosphere. This is the perfect spot. Low key, friendly service, and you can see and hear the burgers frying up in the partially open kitchen. I got the Bailey Burger. Green olives and sour cream atop a classic crumbly bar burger with a side of plain fries and seasoned sour cream. Topped off with a few rounds of Castel Danger Cream Ale and I was satisfied! The waitress was super sweet and gave me a second beer for free, as it took a while to place our food orders. I wasn't too worried about it, I was there to chat with a friend, and she was holding down half the restaurant alone on a Saturday. Would highly recommend this dive! read more

Parking is in front of the place but it is a busy place so parking can be difficult cause the lot may be full Cool little bar that is very busy, it's like a dive bar that went right with great food and service. They have local beer and interesting beers as well. FRIED MUSHROOMS- Comes with ranch sauce and deep fried. Come on is hard to mess up deep fried food, only if the middle is cold and that happened to one of the mushrooms I ate but over all they were pretty good. SHANTY BURGER - it seems to be the party favorite, specially when it come with onion rings. I ordered one but I asked for a fried egg to be added, funny enough she tough I said fried onions idk how but ok. So I waited a bit more for the egg and get my meal, once it finally came I was pretty happy, it was a great burger, no wonder they are so busy. ONION RINGS- OMG these onion rings are amazing!!! get some with the burger I loved it and recommend for sure. Overall this is a very successful place, they managed to have their burger being the rock star of the house. the service lacks a little cause their one waitress can be very overwhelmed and mess up a bit but in the ned the food here spoke volumes in taste and quality. read more

The server was nice but felt she was in a hurry as when I asked for season sour cream she had already moved on to the next person for ordering. Ordered the cheesecurds which were ok. They are breaded which I normally love but these were a bit chewy, felt like there wasn't enough cheese in them. Maybe over cooked so the cheese came out. Got the patty melt upgraded with onion rings and a cheeseburger with dble cheese upgrading to fries. The fries were skinny like McDs the burger was good. The patty melt was good and onion rings were very good. Overall everyone at the table enjoyed there food. The waitress was friendly and had no issue splitting the check. They could use a better craft beer selection, but overall it was good. We never would of found this place with out using Yelp. read more
