I had a pineapple orange mule. Mixed with ginger beer I believe and tasted pretty good. I ordered the maui fish tacos. Blackened catfish, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, avocado, roasted cotija corn. We have been here many times in the past and had excellent food along with excellent service. Last night we think maybe there were some new cooks in the kitchen that definitely need more training. My food (fish) came out overcooked and hard to chew. The server asked if I wanted a new one, I said yes, and when I received it, it was just as overcooked. Very disappointing. Had an enjoyable experience here this evening. Loved the food and enjoyed the ambiance of sitting outside. We had a nice table in the quoter of their outdoor patio. It was definitely worth the short wait to get it compared to eating inside. Although the overall experience was still good, there were definitely some things that could have been better. When our food was brought out we didn't receive any silverware or napkins and had to flag someone down, we also were not offered any water refills throughout the duration of our meal. Getting the bill and paying the bill was also a lengthy process. With that being said I could still definitely see myself back here! read more

The appetizer dip was a very small amount The chicken sandwich was small half of a breast. my total came to $32 after tax fora chicken sandwich with slaw on it and a small glass of Pinot Grigio. We came to this restaurant primarily because of a patio. It was a very warm sunny day, and we were told that they closed the patio for the day because they feared that it would rain. There was no sign of a possible rain at all! It took them a long time to bring the food. Two of us ordered halibut. Whatever fish we got was definitely not what we ordered. We have lunch at this place every time we are in town. The menu offers a variety of great options. I've had the Salmon Salad on multiple occasions and it never disappoints. We've had the Pepperoni and Sausage Flatbread and Calamari for appetizers. Both were excellent. Some of the booth furniture is starting look worn and is need of a refresh, but the outdoor patio is the place to be in the summertime. The waitstaff has been attentive and helpful each time I've eaten here.We will be back again the next time we're in town! read more

Our group of 15 chose Tavern 23 for dinner and drinks. We spent a significant amount of money on food and beverages, and while the service was quite slow, we understood that larger parties take more time. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. When my meal was handed to me, sauce spilled directly onto my outfit. I didn't complain or ask for compensation--I simply cleaned it up and moved on. After dinner, we noticed the beautiful lakeside area and decided to stay and continue our evening. We were not aware that part of the area was apparently not considered part of the restaurant's patio. When a staff member informed us, we immediately said that was fine and asked where we should move. Rather than simply helping a paying group find another table, we were told to go back to the hostess stand and figure it out ourselves. As we were trying to gather 15 people, communicate what was happening, and relocate, a manager named John came down and aggressively escalated the situation. Instead of helping resolve the issue, he ripped a drink out of someone's hand and began yelling at our group that we needed to leave. Most of us weren't even holding drinks, and many were simply standing by the lake. The entire situation could have been handled in 30 seconds with basic customer service: "Sorry, this area isn't part of the restaurant. Let me find you another table." We would have gladly moved, continued ordering drinks, and spent more money. Instead, a manager chose confrontation over communication. John's behavior was completely unprofessional and demonstrated a serious lack of de-escalation skills. I've worked in hospitality and understand that policies need to be enforced, but there is a huge difference between enforcing a policy and aggressively confronting paying customers who were actively trying to comply. What should have been a pleasant evening ended with an embarrassing and hostile interaction. The food and location may bring people in, but management's behavior will keep many from returning. read more

Highly recommend this restaurant for its food. They use quality ingredients and have a health menu of choices from Asian, Italian, to American. The service was prompt and helped contribute to the atmosphere of fun. I recommend sharing this location to others and will definitely be back to taste more of the menu. read more

I've been here several times and I've wanted to like this place, but I haven't been too impressed. The first time we were here, the waiter ensured one of the members in our group that the French fries would be gluten free, without cross contamination in any of the frying oils. This wasn't the case and the member in our group got very sick afterwards. Most recently, we were here for happy hour where we ordered two sushi rolls and a flatbread. The food was very disappointing, the Margherita flat bread was as thin as a cracker with some flavorless sauce and tomatoes thrown on it and the sushi was terrible quality. We were rarely checked on and our water was only refilled when we flagged someone down and asked. The patio itself is wonderful, which is the only thing that incentivizes me to return in the future. read more

Tavern 23 is conveniently located in the Centennial Lakes area. While there was ample parking when we arrived at 5:00 on Saturday, the lot was pretty full by the time we left shortly after six. We were given our pick of seating--indoor, outdoor, or in the lounge area. The space is large and has an interesting feel. There was definitely a modern lakeside vibe, but there were also plenty of things that would be at home in a sports bar. It seemed to attract lots of kinds of groups, from ladies having a night out to families to groups of friends to dates. It did get a little bit loud as the evening progressed, but we were still able to have a conversation. The service was absolutely great--a friendly host, a friendly server (thanks, Jose!) who was eager to answer our questions about the menu and make sure we were happy with our selections--all in all, exactly right! I was stoked to see that they had some good NA options, including Bauhaus Nah, which is a reliably good NA beer. They also had some NA cocktail and wine options, but were all on the sweet side--not super my jam. (Drinkers will be happy to see a pretty extensive list of options in all categories: beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits.) The menu was eclectic, including American comfort food, Latin dishes, sushi, health-conscious picks, flatbreads, and Asian-inspired items. While there was some crossover (avocado spring rolls and Mexican sushi rolls come to mind), I wouldn't call it fusion--it's more that the menu reflected several different types of cuisine. We had the guacamole to start, and it was a favorite for everyone. The portion was very generous, and I loved how well the various textures and flavors came through, from the minced red onion and hot peppers to the bright cilantro and avocado chunks. It was topped with cotijo and served with light and crispy tortilla chips. SO yummy. We also shared the Caprese salad, which was exactly what it sounds like. Considering how many cuisines that the menu drew from, I was surprised that there weren't many vegetarian options for entrees. Even some of the dishes that I'd normally expect to be veggie-friendly, like Mac and cheese, had meat in them. Luckily, I was able to get one of the non-vegetarian entrees (the Kung Pao linguine) made without the meat. The Sichuan chili sauce was tasty--hot, savory, and salty--and the veggies and noodles were fine, too. Overall, I'd say the food was okay--it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. I would probably most likely return if I was looking for a place to grab some appetizers with friends. This would probably also be a good choice if you and your companions were all in the mood for something different. I don't think there are too many other places where you can get sushi, flatbread, meatloaf, queso, and Mongolian beef from the same menu. read more

Came to Tavern 23 for a birthday lunch, waited for almost 30-45 min just to be told that our ticket had been lost and so they had to retake our order. Completely unprofessional, we were told we would get a complimentary dessert, however they just gave us without choosing; Definitely not making a come back, after getting our time wasted. Let me start by saying I really like this place. Maybe I'm a hockey homer and the Lou Nanne vibe suckered me in - but the restaurant and bar vibe is classy. Great ambiance - which is what you expect from most sit down places in Edina. Now - the menu is interesting. Like someone smashed an American, Italian, Chinese, Mexican, and sushi place together. I was excited by the unique combinations, specifically drawn in by the kung pao linguine. It's been on my list and I finally had the chance to try it. So... It wasn't my favorite. In fact - I wouldn't get it again or recommend it. I should've maybe stuck to the more traditional pastas on the menu, but that's just not my style. Now the dish - the flavor was decent and the spice level was pretty good. It just felt like somebody tossed leftover noodles and Chinese food together in a stir-fry. There was a lot of zucchini and breaded chicken on the plate. Honestly, I think it was the flavor and breaded chicken that threw me off. I'm used to kung pao chicken as it's own menu item - toss it in with noodles and I just didn't know what to expect! Swing and a miss for me - but still worth the adventure. Tavern 24 is beautiful inside and out. Walking up to the front door from the parking lot, I actually took note of how well kept the landscaping was and good it looked, you could just sit there and relax. Walking in, it was beautiful and relaxing and the aroma of the wood burning wraps itself around you and pulls you in. The service was welcoming, engaging and friendly and I would come back any day. I've learned to take the recommendations of those who've visited at places I haven't, so I took the spicy Italian flatbread pizza. This was pizza done right! I have an Italian friend, whose family hails from New York. Based on what he's told me about pizza, he would be proud. I loved every bite, and it wasn't heavy, it wasn't carb-y, it was straight good ol' deliciousness! I would recommend coming here to meet with friends or for a date night with. read more

We had one of the best waiters ever on Saturday night. Our group of 4 was able to get seated right away, the waiter had water out immediately, and he had drink ideas for us to try. Drinks were excellent! The flatbread pizzas are very good as well as the sushi rolls. We loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the hour we had there. I have been in before and had a nice enough experience. Tonight doing happy hour with some coworkers was awful. We did have a group of 7. The hostess and host (I think that is who there were) gave the 1st of us to arrive a hard time about where we could sit since there wasn't much room in the bar area. My coworkers were told if we sat in the dining room area we couldn't get happy hour deals and we had to be gone by 6:30. They were also told to "figure it out". We then decided to push a couple of tables together and squeeze together really close. We were told we couldn't move the tables. Which we did anyway. And were really crammed in the space. The wait staff then went to the hostess and host and stood talking and pointing at us. They did decide to let it go and served us. Those of my group that ordered the flatbread said it was good. I got the Orange Peel Chicken and mine was not good. The sauce was thick and looked and sort of tasted like ketchup with some spices. It was gross. I couldn't eat it and 2 hours later I can't get the taste out of my mouth. Those that ordered the sushi rolls couldn't eat those either. They were very fishy. Other than being crammed...it was SO LOUD. Just and undesirable place for a group. The saving grace was our server who did a wonderful job of managing our table. This place was absolutely packed on a Tuesday around noon but we were able to get a table immediately. Our waiter was quick and efficient. The menu is very vast -- everything from Chinese to sushi to Mexican to burgers. A place with that much of a mix typically makes me nervous because that's a lot of different ingredients in the mix. The food here is pretty good but nothing really special. I ordered the Spinach Artichoke flatbread and it was pretty good. The cheese was a little congealed, but the olives, artichokes, spinach, and goat cheese were plentiful. I also got a cup of the Tomato Bisque soup which was hearty and packed with flavor. Too often all you taste are tomatoes and cream, but no one-note Tomato bisque here! However, the description includes melted cheese, jalapeños, black olives, roasted corn, and sour cream so I was expecting to at least find those; my guess is they were puréed into the soup. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the happy hour menu! Some beers as low as $4 and a great selection of HH food. Went to Tavern 23 yesterday after the art fair next door. Dust thing to note is they closed the patio already when it's still early in the season and 80's forecasted for later in the week. This is one of the main reasons we went, for the patio by the little water area nearby. When we sat down, it took about ten minutes for a waitress to come by, then we had a rotation of five waitresses stop by, each one unaware someone else stopped by. When we got the menus, they were sticky and a lot of the text had rubbed off, so they were difficult to read. First we got our drinks, my mom's French 75 was missing lemon and had a black speck of something in it. My French 75 glass was so sticky. My husband asked for their rotational dark beer and it was an amber. This place isn't very much of a tavern as it feels like a cafeteria. We decided to just do drinks then go to a brewery for beer and food. Tavern 23 needs to improve. read more

The best part of Tavern 23 was its ambiance and our server. I ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna sandwich with fries. The ahi tuna tasted sort of sterilized of flavor - ie, no flavor, no seasonings at all with a few shreds of cabbage or Coleslaw - and the fries were not hot, just warm and flabby. This sandwich was reminiscent of the flavor and quality you might expect at a fast food restaurant. I would have said something to our very attentive server, but I was in a business meeting. My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day, mainly cuz we waited till last minute for a reservation! The night we came, a snow storm hit and I think that deterred a lot of people. They were delicious but the only downside is there's only 3, and I'm just not a fan of odd numbers when sharing between 2 people, but that's a personal preference. For entrees we had the Sweet Chili-Glazed Salmon and the Flat Iron Steak. Both were excellent! I'm not sure which I enjoyed more, but there were no leftovers! The atmosphere of the place seemed pretty low key, but again I think the weather played a roll in that the night that we were there! I will say they were quick to make sure the walk ways were clear from snow for guests' safety so bonus points for that! I ordered Eggs benedict and it had the slightest paper thin sliver of ham on it. I think it was that packaged deli ham that you buy at the grocery store so I could barely find it. The sauce was tasteless. My sister and brother got the salmon eggs benedict and the salmon was not good. Maybe it was lucky that there wasn't much of it on it since it was a little unappetizing. Hostess (older lady, light blonde hair, headband) was so rude. Very condescending and far from helpful. Our waiter was great. He was so friendly and we had our antsy 2yr old. All of our food was just "ok". Flatbread was nothing special. Sushi was good. Kids mac n cheese was so bland. I could see the cheese sauce but it tasted like watery noodles. Then we got the orange peeled chicken on fried rice. the breaded chicken tasted like it was made yesterday, put in the fridge overnight and then tossed in the microwave before getting put on our plate.
