This is the 3rd Mallards location i've been to over the last year & generally seafood isn't my thing, which is why i've never had interest in going. This location is blocks away from my job as well as close to home. I recently looked over the menu and found that they offered quite a few non seafood options that sounded good enough for me. The menu at this location is a bit different than the others. They have some daily specials, HH and even some seasonal dishes. I went with the Tennessee Hot Chicken sandwich and my mom got the Crispy Lemon Chicken. The sandwich was good, wasn't as spicy as I hoped it would be but still good. I upgraded chips to cajun fries and those were good. The Crispy Lemon chicken was okay to me, my mom enjoyed it but didn't like the mashed potatoes it came with. She said they were too lumpy. We also shared a crab cake - still too fishy for me lol, but my mom liked it. I got a raspberry lemon drop martini and it was a bit watered down tasting but I'd definitely go back and try some other options. Our server was really nice and attentive. I'm giving this place a 5 because it really gives you a lot for what you pay. The food was quite good with all the reliable breakfast favorites available. I was especially impressed with the sausage patties since they tasted homemade. I got a huge meal for just $16 and bottomless mimosas for $15. You really can't beat that! The service was fast and everyone was friendly. Also, the restaurant wasn't too busy on a Saturday, which made it even better. However, they also take reservations if you ever need them. The decor and location aren't super fancy, but it has a cozy hometown kitchen vibe, but the restaurant and bathrooms were very clean, so no complaints there! I definitely will be back and will consider this as a new rotation in my breakfast options. read more

Service and food are both somewhat basic here. While staff is friendly they might need a little work for things like not bringing your appetizer and entrée at the very same time. Jambalaya was good and hearty. Not my favorite flavors, but probably just a different style. It would be nice if mocktails were included in the happy hour discount prices for cocktails. read more

I arrived around 8 PM on a Friday night, and the place was still lively. We were seated right away near the bar, just as we requested. We started with the walleye bites and elote corn fritters--both came out quickly. The walleye bites were my favorite, though the portion was a bit small. There was a special menu that night, and I went with the chilled lobster and shrimp roll served with fries. It arrived fast and was packed with flavor. A fun surprise: the restaurant has pull tabs! I played a few while waiting, which helped pass the time. Service was great overall, though we did have to track down our server at the end to pay the bill. Nice location across 494 from the Best Buy corporate. Nice space and the menu has a great selection. I came here during happy hour and tried a couple of the items off that menu. The shrimp taco was good; came with a lot of shrimp and the sauce was tasty. The Cajun fries were sadly not good.. too many different spices that didn't compliment each other. I've been here multiple times. The drinks are pretty good but quite sweet. The food is average. The service is good. My mom and I shared a crab cake and bang bang shrimp taco for happy hour special. The crab cake was okay, the shrimp taco was very good! I got the shrimp sautéed instead of fried. Lots of flavor- would have been happy with three of these. Lobster roll- I mean it's lobster in MN so you know what you're signing up for. It was fine. I didn't finish it. My mom seemed to enjoy her goat cheese eggs and potatoes. Started with the walleye bites and jalapeño cornbread. Both were good; although not many bites to share and the jalapeños on the top of a large round cornbread were burnt. For entrees, enjoyed the fried shrimp, hot chicken and waffles, and the salmon New Orleans. The salmon was drowning in sauce and you couldn't taste the fish really. Our server, John, is my favorite part of this restaurant. He is so sincere, so friendly, he looks you in the eyes, he really wants to connect. This was our second time at this restaurant and he remembered that I didn't like my food very spicy. Um, am I that memorable or that "Karen" or is this man incredible? I think the latter. He keeps the drinks flowing (and we don't drink alcohol) and the table clear of dirty plates, and has is not shy with recommendations (and he works in the kitchen too so he knows how the food is actually prepared.) We have had the brussel sprouts (perfectly done, nicely sweet sauce) the blackened shrimp with grits (not too spicy, a cheesey delight), meatloaf (not mine but my friend liked it), the salad with peanuts (a huge mound of nummyness!) It's got this on the ocean beach vibe but the food is always served in a presentation that is much fancier (especially considering the price point: a $16 salad, for example.) I don't know why this place isn't busier, so stop by, there is plenty of parking and plenty of room for dinner! read more

I met up with a friend for dinner, this restaurant is big. Right in the corner of a shopping area, tons of parking to choose from. They had a special on steak that day and I had to go with something nostalgic- meatloaf. It was pretty good, the sweet tomato glaze was surprisingly tasty with the dish, I usually have gravy on top. If you like seafood, you will always have a good time at Mallards. I don't, and I still enjoy the place. I've been probably 10 times and it's time to write down my thoughts. Last night, Melissa took excellent care of us and the service is almost always good here. They strike just the right balance of being around when you need them and not overwhelming you. The food definitely has a Louisiana-style flair to it. (I lived in Louisiana for 35 years so trust me.) And according to my seafood friends, the seafood dishes are yummy. My favorite is the lemon caper chicken dish whose name escapes me. Pull a pro move like I did and ask for a few extra capers. Yuuummm. The vibe in the place is super cute with windows all along one wall looking out on the intersection. The prices are about what you'd expect from a sit down place so I'm happy. Here for a week so we decided to try this place out. We weren't disappointed, food was amazing! We had the walleye bites appetizer, walleye fish tacos, and the crab cauliflower fried rice. Everything was delicious, even the drinks! I forgot the servers name but he was great too! It wasn't very busy on a Monday night and atmosphere was perfect. What a great first experience! Service was fast, friendly and good suggestions. The food was amazing! We went at 1pm on a Saturday so they still had brunch and full dinner options- best of both worlds! The kitchen has extra biscuits gravy and bacon that we got for free! They have a reasonably priced kids meal with good portion and fruit cup as well as coloring. The salmon New Orleans was so flavorful and cooked wonderfully. The lobster roll has great crispy fries and even has extra butter for dipping. The French toast was like a dessert, it's pretty sweet for a meal but would be fun to share for The table. It's places like this that put restaurants out of business. This particular restaurant has online ordering specifically that they will deliver your meals. They charge you for that delivery ($7.95). Then when we called to ask when the meal would be delivered... "We don't deliver, we're a sit down restaurant. You'd have to come in to pick your meal up." (I've been in the restaurant which is Burger King Chic at best.). And of course their only solution is to offer a refund but they really can't say when that refund will happen. Arghhhhh!!! read more

Always our favorite place to eat in the cities. Crab & shrimp boil for two is wonderful & more than we can eat (thats a good thing). My favorites are the Lobster roll & lemon chicken. Shakopee Mallards is now the only Mallards we visit.. The management staff is incredible. The servers are so prompt and absolutely devoted to their work. The Shakopee Mallards is what every Mallards should aspire to be. Months ago after several Bloomington visits to Mallards we were so sad. Shakopee is brand worthy, runs like a clock, always spot on no matter how busy they are. It is always amazingly clean and accommodating of every customer no matter how busy. My sister and I decided to give this place a try on a Monday evening. There is plenty of free parking. The front of this building is very unassuming and quite frankly... kind of boring lol. But as well all know, you can't judge a book by its cover. There is an outdoor patio but it really doesn't have any type of view. The inside was clean and modern, not overly cluttered. We were seated right away by the hostess and she was friendly. Our server was also friendly but nothing over the top. She did not refill our drinks at any point and dropped the butter from our bread appetizer, that she did promptly fix. So service 4 out of 5. Food! You have to get their daily bread! The bread is fantastic!! And the butter, jam and pimento cheese are delicious!! I got the filet mignon and shrimp scampi. The filet was cooked perfectly and was seasoned to perfection!! 10/10! The scampi was fairly tasteless... I would skip that and do the fried shrimp instead. The mashed potatoes were your standard restaurant potato, nothing special. My sister got the Mediterranean pasta without feta and said it was pretty average. The key lime pie was bursting with lime flavor and the texture was smooth and creamy. Overall, this feels like it is riding right along side Red lobster or a slightly fancier version. If you like Red Lobster, you will probably like this place as well! read more

I had bought a Groupon for Mallards in Bloomington a few months ago. I frankly don't recall looking at its menu before buying it. I simply bought it because I was staying in Bloomington and this eatery was nearby. I got a notification that I had twenty days to use my Groupon. I decided to finally use it a few Thursdays ago. I dropped by after work. This restaurant is attached to a Home2 Suites by Hilton. The hotel is up my alley in that it's an extended-stay hotel, which means that each room has a kitchenette. I love that setup. I had no problem finding parking steps away from the restaurant. There's also an underground garage. Parking is free. This area feels like it has carved out a downtown area. You have plenty of apartment or condos around, with the bottom floor featuring eateries, grocery stores, and other businesses. I walked in. There was no one at the greeting area. There was a sign on my left indicating to continue into the restaurant where there was a second greeting area by the merchandise table. There was a woman who promptly seated me. I had the best server here. Ryan was friendly, helpful, professional, and highly attentive during my entire meal. I let him know that I had a Groupon. I didn't know whether I needed to redeem it now or later. He said that we could do it now. Done! My Groupon was for $30 worth of food. I got the following items: - Diet Coke - Lobster bisque - Lobster roll with fries My three items alone hit the $30 mark. I was happy. I forgot to take a phone of my Diet Coke. I oddly captured my water instead. I had a few refills of the former throughout the night. Each was yummy, fizzy, and cold. Ryan made sure that I was hydrated. My lobster bisque came out first. It was divine. There were delicate cubes of lobster with every spoonful of bisque. The bisque was perfect. It was smooth and had the perfect amount of salt. It came with crackers. I felt fancy and crunched them into my bisque. Bisque snobs would likely say that this restaurant should have served them with oyster crackers, but I was fine with decent saltines. The main event came out next. Oh, how I love a good lobster roll. This one looked small, but it was deceiving in size. The roll was nicely toasted and split to welcome lots of lobster filling. There were huge, generous chunks of lobster meat with every bite. I loved the seasoning (I'd guess that it was Old Bay) with celery slices and mayo binding the filling together. It was tasty, messy, and yummy. The clarified butter was room temperature. It was satisfying dunking my roll into it. I love clarified butter. It was to the point where I dunked my fries in it. I preferred it over the ketchup. I typically find fries boring. These fries were crispy shoestrings. They tasted terrific with the clarified butter. Heck, everything tastes better with it. Ryan asked if I wanted dessert. I saw key lime pie on the menu. I asked for it with the whipped cream held. I got it just the way I wanted. The key lime pie here was outstanding. It was perfectly tart with a bit of lime zest. The filling was creamy and delicious. The graham cracker crust had the right amount of moisture. You didn't have to saw your way through it. My fork cut through it nicely. I paid the balance with a credit card. I also tipped. All went well. Ryan said that I could hang out as long as I wanted to. It was nice. I used the washroom before I carried on with being a tourist for the evening. The women's washroom was clean and inviting. It had two sinks at different height levels. This place is accessibility-friendly. I had an excellent experience. I like when a Groupon works out even better than anticipated. I'd return in a heartbeat for my lobster and key lime pie needs. Came to Mallard's to celebrate belated birthday for my son in law. They had eaten here once before and loved it. I now love it too. Was very surprised to see that they were not very busy, I think the location is not the best for them kind of off the beaten path. I had the lobster roll and it could be the best one I have ever had, the amount of lobster was surprising, I swear there were 2 full lobsters in it if not more and so buttery and flavorful and they let me substitute cheesy has browns for the fries as I am always a sucker for good cheesy browns. But my fiancé had the fries and they were amazing too, don't know which I liked better. He had the fish po boy and it wasn't really his favorite maybe the sauce was offf for him, he didn't really say. My daughter had the crab benedict and she loved it she is pregnant and not big on spicy food so she asked for the seasoning to not be added I think it was more like a cajun spice. The birthday boy had the mushroom scramble and he loved it, they sure don't skip on mushrooms. A table next to us had the chicken and waffles that looked very tempting too. Our waiter was nice enough but didn't refill our water until we were almost out. Again very surprised with how dead it was on a Sunday at 11:45.
