Commador combo!
Ken T.

The sea/pirate theme is so cool here. There's a Jack Sparrow in the entry that definitely sold this place for me. We had the hush puppies, mozzarella sticks, and Commador combo. Three of us split and we had a ton for left overs. The medium wasn't very spicy at all, so I would go hotter in the future. Our server was super busy, but still managed to get me like 10 refills! Very attentive!

I've only ordered take out from here, and it's consistently fantastic! It's packed very well, with bibs and gloves included. Prices are comparable to all seafood, yes, it's pricey, but sooooo good! My first time there, I ordered the the First Mate's platter for $78 18. It came with crab, lobster, mussel, corn cob and new potatoes. I ordered it with garlic sauce. It was the bomb! The platter was good for 2 people for 1 meal, then for the left over, with the excellent sauce and seafood that was left, I added pasta and made Seafood Spaghetti! The 2nd time I went, I ordered 1/2 pound of crab for around $17.00, again with garlic sauce just right for 2 people. What a gem to have this establishment in Brooklyn Center. LOVE!

5 Stars! So delicious! The bang bang flavor is packed with flavor and just the right amount of kick. We usually order medium heat -- it's perfect for enjoying all the flavor without overwhelming spice. For the extra-spicy version, we always get it on the side so we can dip as needed. Everything is always fresh, crispy, and seasoned perfectly. Definitely one of our go-to favorites!

Captain platter - lobster tail, crab legs, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, clams, potatoes, eggs, sausage, and corn.

The kiddos wanted seafood boil and have heard so many of their friends eating at Captain crab. We used to dine there often when we lived in Minneapolis. Restaurant is still the same, decorated with fish nets and toy fish, crab, oyster on the walls and ceiling. Service was great, we knew what we wanted. Commander platter for the kids who don't eat spicy and captain platter for the group that eats spicy. The boom boom easoning is good, you can ask for dipping sauce as well and pick a spice level. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

So delicious . Went there during lent for the first time. I will definitely be back!

Atmosphere was beautiful. My favorite part of the place is that a flower pathway is made for you while walking to your table. Also the other decor at the front or the door when you enter, like the bar and sitting pirate photo area. Service was amazing. Shout out to BIG Kevin for being our server and assisting with us with everything. He was always there when anything was needed and checked up to make sure everything was tasty. The Steam Oyster was delicious! I still had that ocean taste which is my liking, mix along with their home sauce. First Mate's platter, was enough for just us two! I honestly thought it wasn't enough, but man oh man was I full! It was a tad bit saltier than usual, but with a side of fries. I was about to balance it out as the fries wasn't too season and fresh from the fryer. Definitely a spot to go back to when you're in town, don't miss out! I also got a side of their Fire sauce and the heat was manageable. Next time I'll have to get it hotter!

Description of our food and note about allergy

We ordered three po boy sandwiches on New Years Eve (two shrimp and one oyster) and my husband has a severe sesame allergy. Normally seafood has no sesame in it but I figured if I put sesame allergy on the order it would be fine. Well, it wasn't. He had a very bad reaction and had to take three epi pens and we had to call 911. Now sometimes people don't know that things like tahini or mole has sesame in it so maybe that was the problem? But be careful with food allergies and new restaurants. Anyway, before the reaction the food was delicious so if you have no allergies then you should be good to go.

Went here to get my first ever seafood boil in a restaurant while my husband was in the cities for a work trip, the experience was good until it wasn't. I only ate 1/4 of my $70 boil, I wasn't very hungry and it was a LOT of food, so I took the rest home so I could eat it for lunch the next day. They took my food in the BACK to package up for me. It wasn't until the next day after I drove an hour away to visit my sister who lives in a neighboring town, when I reheated my food and started EATING it that I realized they gave me somebody ELSES food. Somebody else's food that their hands were in, a half eaten corn on the cob. I mean it's a seafood boil that you suck on the food while eating. Called and complained and demanded a refund or for them to remake it, I was willing to drive back and pick it up but they made me call back 3 times with no answer or solution. My husband went in there and they tried telling him that they could only offer 30% off our next order. We explained we didn't live in the cities and wouldn't be back to their restaurant after this and they only offered him $20 for a refund. Our total bill was over $100. Not to mention, they told us that the persons food that they gave me ALSO called and complained. And from what I could see, the food they gave me was an order over $200 with king crab, scallops, lobster, sausage, allll the works. I'm still upset almost a week later. You can't make this stuff up. If they would've remade it for me or given me a full refund, there would be no review. But this kind of mistake cannot happen when you're serving seafood boils. People dig in them, indulge in the food, slurp on the sauce and suck on the shell fish. I was absolutely disgusted and haven't had an appetite since. Here's a photo of when the food came out because I was so excited to experience this for the first time in a restaurant, I've always made my own at home but where I live you can't get seafood boils like this let alone the good ingredients to make it. $70 for a boil might not seem like a lot of money to some people, but my husband and I do not dine out like this. We are the cook at home type of people and this was just really disappointing and terrible customer service. Also, the garlic butter flavor isn't very good. It tastes more oily than butter and the garlic tasted a little fake or chemically for some reason. But the seafood itself was perfectly cooked and delicious.

The Commander's Platter

Food was delicious! Our server, Kevin, was very helpful in deciding what to order. We will be back! Commander Platter was more than enough for 2 people!

Everything was perfect except for the sausage. Stay away from the sausage. It is as nasty as it looks.

Good service. The waiter noticed that my friend and I were interested in similar things, and suggested a package that saved us money.

The outdoor space is quaint, with sun and shade, a fireplace and a little brook. It gives German watermill-town vibes, and was a nice surprise since you can't tell from the street (the courtyard is walled). We got the Perogies, which were fantastic. They my favorite thing I ate, just perfectly crisped a tad and savory. The Beef short rib in pastry with brie was also yummy, but small. All the apps are actually apps, so don't expect a ton of food from them. Servers and hosts were very friendly. The place was packed, but it just wasn't my vibe, and I wasn't blown away by the food.

We also split a happy hour burger and each had a hand roll - they serve it fancy with a plastic sheet above the seaweed to avoid sogginess (didn't catch a pic of this but presentation was very nice!) The showstopper was the local vanilla ice cream with sesame oil (a nice twist on the olive oil on ice cream trend) and Maldon sea salt flakes. Truly such a simple yet exquisite dessert. Service: we sat at the bar and service was friendly and attentive. Our bartender/servers let us know about the happy hour and suggested a great grapefruit NA drink. Ambiance: it's a quaint and modern looking bar. Overall it's approachable but probably not great for a large group without a reservation or private party.

The food is mostly good, although there is something missing still that could make this restaurant truly one of the best in the state. Still, it's a great night out, especially if you like Korean and/or Chinese food. Here's a rundown: The food: First and foremost, Minari has special menus to meet many dietary restrictions. Not just symbols on one menu, but different menus depending on your restrictions. That's amazing. We ordered off of the Dairy Free (DF) menu, which does include a lot of their dishes from the regular menu. The Szechuan Ribs were my favorite, they are exquisite. The KFC wings are good too, although they could have used a bit more sauce (I am used to Korean-style wings being pretty saucy). The pork jowl was good but did not have quite enough gojuchang flavor. The accompaniments that came with it were awesome, especially the sauces. The bonchon need some work; I would love to see more traditional bonchon, ours had a couple "fusion" type dishes that were a little too contemporary for us. The drinks: The Minari Old Fashioned was AWESOME, a great drink (and the rice cracker was great too). Highly recommend this. The service was some of the best in the metro. From entering (where the host stand will make sure you have appropriate menu(s)), to the server, who was perfectly attentive and very knowledgeable about every dish, including dietary issues, to the complimentary tea and birthday sparkling wine, I can't say enough about the service here. The only weird thing is the dim sum, I would actually just put the dim sum dishes on the menu and bring them out on demand. The ambiance was really nice, and the bathrooms were clean. The final thing I would say is that I think that Minari could benefit from making their Korean dishes a little bit more traditional...as I mentioned earlier, small touches like making the wings a bit "saucier," more gojuchang flavor on the dishes that feature it, and more traditional bonchon would all be great. Still, this is a phenomenal place to dine/drink in NE Minneapolis, and if you like Korean and Chinese food, you will not be disappointed!
