A group of us had lunch here for my friend's Baby Sprinkle because she loves Cajun seafood. We got two large platters to share - one spicy and non-spicy since a few of us can't eat spicy food. I thought the food was delicious. However, I think it's a little pricey at $17.99/lb for shrimp. The service was pretty fast overall. We had such a great experience at Crafty Crab! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The lobster tail was absolutely delicious, tender, buttery, and worth every bite. I was craving seafood and decided to give this place a try despite the reviews already being low. I should have listened... There is plenty of free parking but the outside of the building looks like it is falling apart. The inside had a lot of fun colors, decorations and decor! Very fun! The service was just ok. Very quiet server and I felt like I got forgotten. There weren't many people there, so it would have been nice to have the server check in. The food: The pop here tasted like cleaner... I suppose it's good they are cleaning their fountain soda machine, but I shouldn't taste it. The fried calamari was very hard and chewy. It was also only rings when the picture shows the tentacles as well. I would not get that again. The snow crab and shrimp were good but the house seasoning is overly salty and no garlic! I love when there are bits of garlic in the sauce! Overall I would compare this to the same level as a red lobster. My daughter had cravings for seafood boil late one evening and I looked up the nearest location. They are about to close in 30 minutes. I called the restaurant to see if we can place an order to pickup and the guy said sure. We showed up 10 minutes before closing and the food was just about done and packing. Order the seafood platter if you want a variety, otherwise if you're just craving one item they sell by pound. Boom seasoning is recommended. Been here a few times and I think the seafood boil is just ok as it could use more seasoning and sauce. The quality of the seafood boil definitely depends- some days are better than others. There were a few times where I did take out and my order was wrong but overall minimum issues. Some of the staff here are really friendly though and I do think they are short staff sometimes. This was the 2nd time we've been here and I was craving a seafood boil! We ordered to go as we don't live nearby and wanted to eat at home. We love mussels, but weren't a fan of the ones we got as the texture wasn't the way we've had them before. We called to alert the manager (we don't do this often!) and he made it right. We went back in and they replaced them with something of our choosing. My rating would have been very different if we didn't go back and swap out those. (It would have also been a 5 star without them!). We got the fried shrimp. OMG!!! This was the best fried shrimp I've ever had!!! You need to get them! Normally we wouldn't get a fried shrimp basket because I'm used to the frozen breaded style shrimp from most places. This blew my socks off! If Raising Cane's breading and a fresh juicy shrimp had a baby... that would be how good their shrimp basket was!!! We also love love loved the hush puppies. My grandmother raised us with southern style cooking and these were just like hers! I recommend getting the spice blend rubbed on them! So good! The fried catfish wasn't fishy and it was flakey and fresh. My hubby got a side of the gumbo and he really enjoyed. Overall, there is great management at this location and they really know how hospitality works. We don't complain often unless something is really off, but he impressed us! The king crab was about $65 for only two legs and they werent even big. The sauce was super salty and when it came out of the kitchen the food was barely hot. It was just warm. The oysters sauce was salty and the oysters itself was small. Maybe it was just me, but I literally thought that 1/2 lb was a good decent amount of food, but honestly i don't know what their 1/2lb of crawfish or seafood was. Only ate like two crawfish and overall had only 6 crawfish. I was literally counting the crawfish . I am disappointed in the corn because the corn wss overcook. The boil egg was good to the seafood boil. But overall, the sauce and amount was ok. It is not the best place i have gone to and i am not sure if i would come back. Although the the price is a little steeper than other sea food boil places, they make up for it in the excellent quality of there Crab legs and Shrimp (what I mainly get) which for me makes it worth the price. Also the service is very nice and caring. It does get crowded sometimes, especially on the weekend which I understand why with the quality of this restaurant. The decorations and vibe of the place is really nice too, to match with the quality of the place. For a party of 5 our bill was $283 for marginal seafood. Waitstaff had no personality. Ambiance is lacking. Perhaps the worst value I've ever experienced at a restaurant of any kind. Up until now, I was able to say that I've had pleasant experiences with restaurants that serve a seafood boil; and while I really wish I could say the same for Crafty Crab, unfortunately I can't. I picked up a to go order expecting that it would be the same as what I've had at other restaurants (corn, potatoes, shrimp, snow crab, etc..) and was very surprised when I got home. The sauce, corn, and potatoes were fine, but the stars of the dish, the snow crab and shrimp left me debating if I wanted to make the 30 minute drive back to the restaurant to demand a refund. The shrimp was dry and on the border of chewy, but the crab is what made me almost drive back. As I mentioned, I ordered a dish with the SNOW CRAB, but when opening the bag at home, I saw that I was given the BLUE CRAB instead. For those who don't know the difference, one section of a snow crab leg has more crab meat than an entire blue crab. After disassembling what little crab I was given, there was barely enough meat for one spoonful; and if that wasn't disappointing enough, most of it was overcooked, flaky and chewy making it almost inedible. Instead of serving the crab whole or halved, it was broken up into pieces and because of this, I'm fairly positive I ingested more of the crab's shell than the crab meat itself and because there were bits and pieces scattered on all the food throughout the dish, I spent the rest of my evening picking and spitting out tiny pieces of the shell. Needless to say, this establishment will be one I will not be visiting or ordering from again. read more

This place is AWESOME. I never see people come in here but it is so dang good. I got the seafood boil shrimp and crab, definitely recommend. It was my first time not having homemade seafood boil, and it was definitely worth it. (Get all the seasonings mixed, it is so heavily) Our waiter was very sweet but not overwhelming us with constant stops to our table. Tried this place for the first time tonight. We were very pleased! It satisfied our seafood craving perfectly. The fried shrimp was really good, done just perfectly and nice crunchy light batter. The boil that I had was a lobster tail and snow crab with the butter garlic sauce. It is was delicious. The butter garlic sauce was flavorful and not too salty. The crab legs were sweet and not overcooked. The lobster tasted fantastic with the garlic butter sauce. The potato and corn were nice additions too. Will definitely be back. My youngest son took me here for my Mother's Day gift from him to me and it was my first time going there and we both loved the atmosphere and the hostess was very friendly. Yesterday we picked up Crafty Crab for dinner and it was excellent. I recommend you visit this restaurant if you enjoy seafood with a Southern flare. Crafty Crab is a new restaurant in Columbia Heights (4920 Central Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55421), in the former space of Basha's. We ordered hush puppies (very well flavored), the mussel and clam boil (.5 lb; in garlic butter sauce; medium heat), a "pick your own" boil of dungeness crab, crawfish, and headless shrimp (.5 lb of each, in the Crafty Crab Original sauce; mild heat) and a catfish and chips dinner. The boils come with corn and potatoes. We also received three small containers of dipping sauces. They sell white rice, but I made rice at home instead. Eating shellfish can be messy, but it's more enjoyable in your own home where you can wash your hands easily and feel less conscious of the way you are eating it. ;) If you order crabs you will want tools to crack the shells and get the meat out (we did not, but nut crackers and picks did the job. The boils come in plastic bags, and double bagged for takeout. Lots of leftovers in our house, and we boiled the shells and remnants for a soup stock base. We ordered our food online, directly from their website ( https://www.craftycrabrestaurant.com/) and they brought the order out to my car (I had forgotten my face mask at home, so asked if they could do that).
