I was in the area for an appointment and my son wanted a burger and this place was the closest. Can you say, RUDE, if we didn't Uber to our appointment, and if my son wasn't such a picky eater, I would have taken my business elsewhere. It took almost 30 min to get a burger, Italian beef, and two orders of fries and 2 slushies. Then they forgot our drinks, which put us over 30 minutes, and no they were not busy, so he was just being a jerk. I get it, all prices have gone up, but to charge anyone let alone child a dollar to enjoy their meal in your establishment is tacky and thirsty. I have been going for years and the food has always been good. The fish is tasty. And the chicken are my go to. When I want a taste of home , I stop by here. This time the fish was raw-uncooked, they forgot my shrimp meal. By the time we got to our location , the place had closed. We were able to get a refund the next, with a small amount of resistance. I've eaten here for lunch and dinner about 8 times now while I'm at work. It's always very quiet and I wonder how they remain in business. I've tried several different menu items including the Fish & Chips, the Gyro and today I tried the Gyro Bowl. All of the food has been delicious. I'm always greeted with a smile by at least one employee and the service has been courteous, professional & prompt. I've worked in the restaurant industry before and Hooks looks clean and well kept in the front of the store which I have found usually indicates the kitchen is hygienic as well. I know there's lots of competition, but I'm baffled that Hooks isn't crowded based on my experience with them. read more

Stopped in for a late bite on Sunday night. Pleased to see that Hooks stays open late 7 days a week. Most nights 10 pm and Friday & Saturday 11 pm. Pretty simple place. Order at the counter. Menu is posted on the wall. Mostly fried fish (Catfish, Perch and Tilapia) as well as shrimp. They also have a variety of hot (grilled) sandwiches. Pretty diverse. Anytime I see something like this, I am a little concerned because the menu seems to be all over the map. Cashier who took my order was friendly. I went with the 20 piece fried shrimp meal that comes with fries, bread and a canned drink. I substituted hushpuppies for the fries. Food came out pretty quickly. No table service, so you pick your meal up at the counter. Shrimp were fine and I enjoyed the flavor of the hushpuppies. Went in because this was the first place in Minnesota I found that served fried okra. Coming from the South, fried okra is a lifestyle. That's right...the fish wasn't even the main reason I went in. Now.......let's talk about that fish! Perfectly seasoned, the fish just melts in your mouth. Like holy cow give me more right now kind of melt. And the seasoning is to die for. I didn't even realize until I tried some excess seasoning at the bottom of my tray, but they use crystallized vinegar on their fish! Like the kind of yummy, addictive crystallized vinegar that is used on salt and vinegar potato chips. Totally works. The seasoning was perfectly even all around but was also clearly breaded in house and not frozen. The fried okra and hushpuppies were also INCREDIBLE! Easily the best fried okra and hushpuppies I've ever had, and this is coming from a Southern guy who respects his okra and his corn bread! No complains whatsoever. I'm in a total food coma right now.
