OMG! :D (from JoeZ and Carrie by the window) I decided to take my gal out for a special New Years Day Lunch. I had been trying to get us here for several weeks and now the stars have finally aligned! ( I did not want to cheat my gal out of this 1st time experience by having it alone. We Had So Much FUN!) Dang! I am so glad that I waited! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted and asked if we had been to KC before? ("No, but highly recommended by my employer!") Ryan, (mgr.) asked us to pick a table and would be by to explain how the menu is set up and works! (Great so far!) Staff , (and patrons as we looked around on our way to the table) were all smiles and truly looked like they were enjoying themselves! The dishes on the tables were well-presented and VERY appetizing to see! (Great Again!) At least 20 patrons were already tucking in and enjoying the heck out of the food and themselves! (most wearing plastic bibs and gloves.) A half minute after we were seated, a pleasant young lady came by with ice-water .(she and others checked back often enough to check on us.) We were both giddy at the prospect of choices offered. It took some minutes to decide after carefully looking over the menu. (So many wonderful choices! Too many, OMG I want ALL of it! ) We decided on menu item Combo 3 ( for this visit) . It consisted of : 2 cluster of snow crab legs 1 whole lobster 1 lb crawfish 1 lb head on shrimp 1 lb green mussels 1/2 lb sausage 5 corns, 5 potatoes for $99.99 (They cheerfully substituted 2 lobster tail for the whole lobster! :D We were DELIGHTED! ) We also ordered a sticky-rice (3.50) and an order of Thien's Fries, pronounced Tea-en, (Ryan kindly helped me here as it is not phonetic.) for 7.99. They are loaded with cheese, sauce, seasonings and bits! Delicious! Nearly a meal in itself! We had to stop eating the large portion of fries so we had some room left for the sea-food! .....and it came....on to the platter....erm...tray...erm ..barrel-top? (22 min from initial ordering), everything is hot, steaming, fresh and wonderful!) It was a Perfect Sea-food heaven! :D After taking in the beautiful sight of this Enormous tray, Carrie and I cracked and pealed and shared bites and ate our way to to complete satisfaction! We drove for 30 minutes to get to the restaurant. Before we went, we called ahead and specifically asked if we could dine in at 8:20 PM since they close at 9:00 PM. They told us that would be fine. However, when we arrived at 8:20 PM, we were told they could not serve us because they were closing at 9:00 PM. What made the situation even worse was how rude and disrespectful the manager was toward us. If they were not accepting customers at 8:20 PM, they should have told us when we called instead of telling us it was okay and then turning us away after we drove 30 minutes to get there. read more

Got the soft shell crab appetizer to split among 4. It was very tasty. The seasoning was simple, it reminded me of salt & pepper shrimp. We also shared combo 1 and added 1lb of snow crab (two clusters). The House Cajun sauce was good, but heavy on garlic/"jarlic" and could have been saucier. Next time I'd ask for/order a side of extra sauce for dipping. The dish could have used more than 2 (halves) or corn on the cob. Everything in the boil tasted good! Some other highlights: 1) there's a shared parking lot to the side of the building as well as metered parking in the front. It was busy when I went, so I parked around the corner- for free. 2) I wasn't a fan of the ordering process. Before I get into why, I'd recommend browsing the menu ahead of time to determine what you want. That said, we had a reservation (on Valentine's Day) and the place was understandably busy. There wasn't a hostess station so we headed to the register to check-in. That's where we learned that before being seated, we'd have to first order (and pay). With how extensive the menu was, and crowded the immediate area was- the process felt a bit chaotic and overwhelming. 3) The space is cute. A good amount of tables, and simple but cute decor. After being seated, staff stopped by at different points with bibs, gloves, and disposable plates/utensils. 4) Food took a long time to come out, but I won't ding them because again... it was busy. However, having to remind and re-remind staff of missing items (rice, garlic bread) did leave an unfavorable impression. My hope is things are more buttoned-up on an average day. That said, while I'm giving grace for the cons I still rate it as okay. I'd be down for giving it another shot during a non-peak period to see if the experience is better or the same. read more

Went to King Cajun for my birthday dinner because I was craving seafood. It did not disappoint! We ordered Special Meal 3 with King Cajun sauce (all seasonings) at the order counter and we each got a beverage with it - I believe it was only cans or a water bottle. They don't serve alcohol and while you order at the counter, the servers did a good job refilling our waters. There's a small parking lot on the west side of the block that had plenty of parking for the businesses. Make sure to wear something you're comfortable getting messy cause I definitely walked away with a butter-stained sweatshirt! read more

To me, a seafood boil is always going to be good. It's fairly simple ingredients that make a tasty meal. Their menu stands out here though. So many different combos and sides and appetizers that you don't see at other places. You get so much food for a good deal! I have to say though, the King Cajun sauce lacked that flavorful, garlicky seasoning that I wanted. Yes it was still delicious but it could've used some more garlic or old bay to me. Seating can be difficult inside and fill up fast. You can make reservations and they were able to accommodate a party of sixteen. It's not a huge resturant by any means so take out is also great. Had a really good experience at King Cajun today! The food is always great. We got a variety of things with shrimp and squid boil along with the fried soft crab platter. All the food was delicious and the wait staff was also helpful. The restaurant is a little cramped, but it's OK. The decorations inside give a crabshack feel, I love the giant shark! My friends took me here for a late birthday dinner and the place did not disappoint. All of this amazing food fed three grown adults (two full grown hungry men). The service was efficient and friendly, always topping our waters off and making sure each table was good. All of food was very yummy and flavorful. My boyfriend and I decided to stop here before an event we had. I love seafood boil and we've been trying new places every time we go! King Cajun has a nice parking lot so you don't have to find any kind of street parking! The inside of the restaurant feels clean and bright and has some goofy decorations that fit the vibe perfectly. You order at the counter or at your table i believe. It is a seat yourself place. The lady who helped us out when ordering was very kind and ready to answer any questions. We got shrimp, mussels, snow crab, and sausage. Every pound of seafood comes with a potato and corn. We ended up with quite a bit. We chose the house mix (all of the options mixed) and medium heat. Everything was DELICIOUS! Nothing tasted fishy, everything was well cooked, it was well seasoned and perfect spice for what we wanted. It was A LOT of food. They give u scissors to cut the crab, a bucket on the table (which i saw a review complaining about this , even though it is at every seafood boil place), gloves, and bibs. My only slightly negative thing i have to say is that it was definitely a little more pricey than other places we have gone and we always get the same combo of things. The sausage seemed a bit more expensive and to get extra sauce was a little steep. Also, their cajun fries were good but i felt as if they could've been more seasoned for being cajun fries. I love Cajun food. This place always hits the spot for me. I recommend getting the head on shrimp with their specialty sauce. Always drove by this place and finally a chance to try it out. It is metered street parking. The restaurant is pretty much self-serve everything. You order first at the register then they will seat you. When we got there, there was a line and waitlist. We only had to wait about 15 minutes on a Saturday, which wasn't bad. After ordering, it took about 15-20 minutes until our food came out. They have a self-serve table at the entrance. Here you can find water, sauces, bibs, plates, napkins, utensils, and togo boxes. Most tables do have a sauces rack. People who order Togo can grab everything they need here. They do have gloves but the waiter has to bring it. They do not have any crab crackers here but they give u a scissors to cut the claws if needed. Since it was our first time here we decided to share. They do have individual and combo platters. We went with individuals. For every 1 Lb or seafood, it does come with 1 corn and 1 potato. The sauce for the seafood is typical of any seafood broil. Seafood broil- we ordered 1 lb of head of shrimp and 1 lbs of crawfish. This was cooked in the house mixed (everything thing in it) at mild spicy. We ordered 2 clusters of snow crab legs in house sauce with medium spicy. The spicy level was not really spicy for mild or medium. Thought bf would not be able to tolerate medium so we got medium for 1 bag but it wasn't bad. Some places medium can be really spicy. They do have regular hot sauce on the side to dip if needed. 3.5/5 I really like that this place leave the seafood in a bag which I prefer over in a plate like some other places. I feel like it keeps the flavor in. However, I don't like that there was not enough sauce in the bag. I wish they really drenched the bag. So it was a little disappointing. Got an order of Cajun fries. I've have a fair share of Cajun fries from seafood broil and this definitely did not taste like the typical Cajun fries. Nothing about it was Cajun. Tasted like fries with some seasoning on it. It was crunchy and sauce was good. 2/5. Overall not a wow experience for me. The seafood was normal. Nothing really special. Sauce was ok. We decided to switch it up this Sunday and instead of brunch went here... What a great decision! Atmosphere was very casual yet inviting. We were greeted right away brought menus and shown to a table. The menu had a lot of options but that's a great thing If you didn't want to get a large boil bowl you could choose to pick items you liked all cart or add extras if you wanted. The two of us decided to get the mid-level boil(there were three tiers/prices one was probably for one person maybe two at Just under $30, the second boil (The one we went with) had very generous portions of boiled eggs, corn on the cob, potatoes, 2 lb of crab legs, a ton of shrimp, the most deliciously steamed perfectly seasoned broccoli I've had in some time and two sides of rice and two beverages of our choice ror just under $70, *(there was a third boil bowl That was just over $100 but that would definitely feed four to six people) Even though it's on a busy main drag street the feel inside was quiet and kind of tucked in. There was someone there by themselves, another couple and a small girls group. We also saw a few people come in to grab take out which is an added bonus. What I really liked was that they also gave you the option of heat/spice levels starting at mild going up to extreme. Again the portion size was amazing but everything was cooked too perfection The only critique I would have is that the crab legs we had were small and they weren't very meaty a half of the crab legs or either only half full or empty and usually the price for these types of dishes is because you're paying for the seafood. Other than that this was a really quaint little place with friendly service from start to finish and amazing portion size/taste if you like that southern style/coastal type of meal this is your place and the best part about it is it's very local just outside of downtown St Paul. read more

The fried shrimp basket came quickly and was actually quite flavorful. I would rate it a 4/5. When the seafood boil came and they opened the bag, all I could smell was garlic. There was so much garlic it was practically not edible. Each bite was filled with chunks of garlic. It was excessive and overpowering. You couldn't taste anything else. I'd rate the boil a 1/5. The last time I visited, I ordered combo 1 with the King Cajun sauce (mild) and a side of rice. I believe it came with 1/2lb peeled shrimp, 2 corns, 2 or 3 potatoes, 1 sausage, and 1 egg. I'm also in love with their fried calamari and the sauce that comes with it--the portion could be so much bigger though. Thien fries are so yummy as well!! Ok, yes, I was that person. I was the person who ordered seafood via Door Dash and stunk up someone's car. Well, I stunk up their car with a build your own boil with green mussels, black mussels, head on shrimp, and Jonah crab claws. There were a good portion of complimentary corn and potatoes as well. Their house sauce was amazing. So garlicky and full of flavor. All the seafood was fine except for the Jonah crab claws. The meat was yellow and had such a weird texture I almost think they went bad, but I'm not sure. So, I didn't eat them and everything else was great. I never got sick.
