Lobster Ravioli. That is all you need to know. Lobster Ravioli. The ravioli are stuffed with lobster in a perfectly fine sauce. But then they sprinkle on the magic seasonings and it is elevated to ethereal status. The salty finish elevates it. The prime rib was unfortunately cold. And the au jus sauce. If you are going to serve cold meat then the au jus should be hot. I did appreciate that rare was an option. A nice selection of entree choices. The steak au poivre with it's accompanying potatoes was excellent. As was the shrimp chimichurri. The desserts were slightly above average, although the macarons were great. Too basic for the price point. The Pineapple Express is a great mocktail choice. We came here for Mother's Day and they need a great job of keeping the chafing dishes full of hot food. The service was attentive. Went for lunch on a Friday. Got the street corn and the server offered it with chips as a dip, it was much more cheesy than I anticipated it to be. My friend got the BLT and a salad and I got a baked potato which I realize is silly but that's what I was in the mood for and they are usually incredible at a steak restaurant. The potato was twice baked which wasn't noted on the menu, I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known that. They gave us a complimentary dessert since it was our first time in. I said we'd be back, and we came back :) we went without a reservation which was a mistake. We ended up sitting at a high top in the bar area in the doorway and overall just felt too in the doorway. Food 4/5: we started with the pork belly. It was overall well cooked and flavored. We both got steaks and shared mac and cheese and the Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were the star of the show, I just wish the portion was larger. The Mac and cheese was just ok. We did get it without the lobster, but I overall prefer a creamy Mac and cheese and thought the spice didn't compliment the cheese included in the Mac. I got one of the wagyu steak and it was just ok. I asked for medium and it was more towards a medium well. We finished with the chocolate cake and they also brought some ice cream thing we didn't order. Both were decadent and well balanced. Service 5/5: our waiter was attentive and overall did a good job. Ambiance 3/5: overall this place has a cozy elevated vibe. The table we sat at was a bit of an anomaly to the overall aesthetic. We were so close to the doorway and anytime the door opened we were met with the ice cold air. My husband and I flew to Minnesota for a friend's event and decided to celebrate my birthday a little early while we were in town. The vibe there is great with lots of unique art and paintings on the walls. One thing I really liked as an eco-friendly person was that the bathroom has actual towels for drying your hands instead of paper ones. We had a reservation and they had us seated within five minutes. We started with the Whiskey Cream Mushrooms and the Watermelon Salad. If you are a cheese lover, you have to get those mushrooms. They were buttery and warm and absolutely loaded with parmesan. They basically just melted in my mouth. The watermelon salad was our personal favorite of the night. It had a spicy kick to it that reminded us of eating watermelon with Tajin. I actually saved some of the salad to eat with my Hanger Steak Chimichurri. The steak had a unique and slightly gamey taste with a different texture from the seasoning. I almost thought I had been served lamb or goat, but it was still good. Mixing the blue cheese from the salad with the steak was a great combo to help balance out the heaviness of the meat. My husband tried the Mother's Day special which was halibut with fruit salads. We never thought those flavors would go well together, but it was a really nice surprise. For dessert, we ordered the Mocha Mudpie. We had no idea how massive it was going to be until it arrived. It is easily big enough for four people to share. It is made with Sebastian Joe's coffee ice cream and Oreos and walnuts. My husband ordered a coffee to go with it, which I would definitely recommend doing. The bitterness of the coffee really helps balance out all that chocolate and sweetness. The only part we were a little unsure about was the birthday treat. The table right behind us got a small dessert with a candle. My husband mentioned to the server that it was my birthday while I was in the restroom, but we did not get anything. We were not sure if the other table ordered theirs separately or if the restaurant just does not do complimentary birthday treats. It was not a dealbreaker, but it was just something we noticed since we usually see that for special occasions. Overall, it is a really good spot for a date night or just grabbing drinks. Went for a birthday dinner. Steak was very good and one of the better ones I've gotten in the twin cities! Got the 8 oz Filet. The béarnaise sauce was one of the best I've had. Also got the spicy lobster Mac n cheese and the mashed potatoes. Not usually a big lobster person but the flavor was very good and not very fishy. Would recommend both sides. Baldamar lived up to the hype for me! My wife and I came in for the Champagner brunch and it did not disappoint. We tried way too many dishes to list. But I loved the scallop, the steak and eggs, and the king crab Benedict. And let's not forget get about the drinks. So much more than champagne which is flowing liberally. There are several tasty cocktails. Between us I think we tried them all :) The 14 Karat Queen may have been the highlight. But my favorite drink was actually the Pinot Noir. It was super tasty especially for being featured in an all you can drink menu. It's certainly not your typical house wine. Oh and pro tip. Save the French toast for last call. It's massive and you can bring it home when you don't finish it. We brought this and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. If I'm not picky the only downfall is that this menu is served in a room off the main dining area. The main dining area being a wide up and super cool looking space. So the side room just can't compete. I'm guessing though this is what helps keep the service super perfect for this all you can eat menu. So I think the trade off is worth it. Dined here for my birthday at the recommendations of my brother. Amazing place. Ambiance: Located near Von Maur at Rosedale Mall, there is parking in front and at the mall. This beautiful restaurant welcomes you with a huge (and heavy) door. The deep mahogany wood, low light and gorgeous floral arrangements set the tone for your experience. There are booths and tables and a very impressive bar for seating. My group of 15 were seated near the open concept kitchen. I made reservations a week ahead, note: they hold a credit card and there is a per person cancellation fee, so confirm all guests. Service: we had two servers and they were excellent. Very attentive and rectified and mishaps without a problem. We didn't get a couple apps and they quickly had the kitchen bring them. The goods: Whew! My goodness. Baldamar has a great selection of food. We started with a couple bread plates with a variety of butters. We had the wings, salads and more as apps. For entrees we had a variety of foods. Sea bass, steak salad, chicken, steaks, burgers. Everything was delicious. Cooked perfectly and well seasoned. 10s across the board. The restaurant gifted me a $25 gift card for a future visit. Delicious! I visited on a Saturday night around 5pm and the place was packed but rightfully so. The food, service, and ambiance was perfect. We ordered oysters, Chimichurri Shrimp, Char Grilled Street Corn and the bread is life for appetizers and for main dishes/sides we got Tamarind Braised Short Rib, Miso Marinated Sea Bass, Lobster Mac n Cheese and Steak. The portion sizes were fairly big so make sure you come hungry. All the items we ordered were so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The hostess was so upbeat and friendly when we first checked in and our waiter Cameron did a phenomenal job taking care of our group of 13. When we arrived for our Restaurant Week reservation, there were 8+ servers and greeters standing behind the check-in counter with no facial expressions - they didn't look happy. That isn't a good first impression for a restaurant. We were immediately seated in the main dining room and asked the host if they had a booth, but were told they were all reserved. It was so noisy when we sat down and the tables were so close together that my wife could hear the conversation at the table adjacent to us. So we asked if we could move to a quieter area. The manager got involved and moved us to another room that was not as lively. We both ordered their 3 course Restaurant Week special with choice of 3 starters (salads or brussels sprouts), 3 entrées (shrimp w/angel hair pasta, 8 oz filet mignon w/bearnaise sauce, or pork shank), and 2 desserts (chocolate cake w/mouse and ganache, or a sea salt and olive oil parfait w/pistachios). My wife had their frisse house salad, it was over-dressed and soggy as if it had been sitting in the fridge for awhile, but otherwise tasted okay. I had the "flash fried" brussels sprouts that were overcooked, and oily. We both ordered medium rare filet mignons that were properly cooked, but the Béarnaise was bland. To my surprise the steaks arrived centered on a large plate with no garnish except for some finely ground black pepper. They were correctly cooked but not juicy and had no steak drippings. My wife remarked at how large the desserts were as she saw servers walking by, but when each of our 2 desserts arrived at our table, they were tasting portions, about 4 bites each! Our server Paul was always friendly and helpful, but I thought it was unnecessary for him to read and describe every available side dish on the main menu, so I stopped him after the first 4. After our dining experience, and the exorbitant prices for everything on the main menu, including $30 and $40 wines by the glass, I cannot recommend Baldamar. Our party of four stopped in with last-minute reservations on a Monday night at 7:30 PM. This place was packed, I highly recommend making reservation and be prepared to wait until your time if you get there early. Baldamar has been on my list of restaurants to visit and Minneapolis restaurant week was a perfect excuse to try it. During our visit, they were doing a $50 dinner special, I went with the homemade meatball appetizer. It was a very large meatball swimming in marinara sauce with ricotta cheese on the side and two crustinis Personally, I wish the meatball was smaller, the middle of mine was lukewarm at best. Other than that, it was delicious. The other option was a shrimp chimichurri also served on crustinis. Normally this appetizer is $20, but I assume you get more with a normal order versus restaurant week. For my entrée I went with a 8 ounce sirloin, it was melt in your mouth delicious. I normally get my steaks from 801 Chop and this was a great alternative. Outside of restaurant week the steak is just shy of $60. For a dessert we had the choice of carrot cake and crème brûlée. We all went with crème brûlée which I noticed was not normally on the menu. Also, very delicious! Lastly we ordered the $20 chocolate cake to share. It was huge and we took half of it home with us. (For drinks our table also ordered the strawberry blonde mocktail. Great way to start the meal.) Restaurant week was great, but I am excited to return and try the normal menu.
