My sister and I decided to give this place a try on a Monday evening. There is plenty of free parking. The front of this building is very unassuming and quite frankly... kind of boring lol. But as well all know, you can't judge a book by its cover. There is an outdoor patio but it really doesn't have any type of view. The inside was clean and modern, not overly cluttered. We were seated right away by the hostess and she was friendly. Our server was also friendly but nothing over the top. She did not refill our drinks at any point and dropped the butter from our bread appetizer, that she did promptly fix. So service 4 out of 5. Food! You have to get their daily bread! The bread is fantastic!! And the butter, jam and pimento cheese are delicious!! I got the filet mignon and shrimp scampi. The filet was cooked perfectly and was seasoned to perfection!! 10/10! The scampi was fairly tasteless... I would skip that and do the fried shrimp instead. The mashed potatoes were your standard restaurant potato, nothing special. My sister got the Mediterranean pasta without feta and said it was pretty average. The key lime pie was bursting with lime flavor and the texture was smooth and creamy. Overall, this feels like it is riding right along side Red lobster or a slightly fancier version. If you like Red Lobster, you will probably like this place as well! read more

Food and service were both fantastic!! Ask for John and then listen to what he says (except stick up for the Cajun fries). John is partial to the corn fritters, but the best is get the Cajun fries so you have remoulade sauce to dip the fritters into!! Makes them even better. Then John steered us to Gammy's meatloaf for my wife and Jambalaya for me. Finishing it off with hot apple pie ala mode. Definitely will return. read more

I had bought a Groupon for Mallards in Bloomington a few months ago. I frankly don't recall looking at its menu before buying it. I simply bought it because I was staying in Bloomington and this eatery was nearby. I got a notification that I had twenty days to use my Groupon. I decided to finally use it a few Thursdays ago. I dropped by after work. This restaurant is attached to a Home2 Suites by Hilton. The hotel is up my alley in that it's an extended-stay hotel, which means that each room has a kitchenette. I love that setup. I had no problem finding parking steps away from the restaurant. There's also an underground garage. Parking is free. This area feels like it has carved out a downtown area. You have plenty of apartment or condos around, with the bottom floor featuring eateries, grocery stores, and other businesses. I walked in. There was no one at the greeting area. There was a sign on my left indicating to continue into the restaurant where there was a second greeting area by the merchandise table. There was a woman who promptly seated me. I had the best server here. Ryan was friendly, helpful, professional, and highly attentive during my entire meal. I let him know that I had a Groupon. I didn't know whether I needed to redeem it now or later. He said that we could do it now. Done! My Groupon was for $30 worth of food. I got the following items: - Diet Coke - Lobster bisque - Lobster roll with fries My three items alone hit the $30 mark. I was happy. I forgot to take a phone of my Diet Coke. I oddly captured my water instead. I had a few refills of the former throughout the night. Each was yummy, fizzy, and cold. Ryan made sure that I was hydrated. My lobster bisque came out first. It was divine. There were delicate cubes of lobster with every spoonful of bisque. The bisque was perfect. It was smooth and had the perfect amount of salt. It came with crackers. I felt fancy and crunched them into my bisque. Bisque snobs would likely say that this restaurant should have served them with oyster crackers, but I was fine with decent saltines. The main event came out next. Oh, how I love a good lobster roll. This one looked small, but it was deceiving in size. The roll was nicely toasted and split to welcome lots of lobster filling. There were huge, generous chunks of lobster meat with every bite. I loved the seasoning (I'd guess that it was Old Bay) with celery slices and mayo binding the filling together. It was tasty, messy, and yummy. The clarified butter was room temperature. It was satisfying dunking my roll into it. I love clarified butter. It was to the point where I dunked my fries in it. I preferred it over the ketchup. I typically find fries boring. These fries were crispy shoestrings. They tasted terrific with the clarified butter. Heck, everything tastes better with it. Ryan asked if I wanted dessert. I saw key lime pie on the menu. I asked for it with the whipped cream held. I got it just the way I wanted. The key lime pie here was outstanding. It was perfectly tart with a bit of lime zest. The filling was creamy and delicious. The graham cracker crust had the right amount of moisture. You didn't have to saw your way through it. My fork cut through it nicely. I paid the balance with a credit card. I also tipped. All went well. Ryan said that I could hang out as long as I wanted to. It was nice. I used the washroom before I carried on with being a tourist for the evening. The women's washroom was clean and inviting. It had two sinks at different height levels. This place is accessibility-friendly. I had an excellent experience. I like when a Groupon works out even better than anticipated. I'd return in a heartbeat for my lobster and key lime pie needs. Always our favorite place to eat in the cities. Crab & shrimp boil for two is wonderful & more than we can eat (thats a good thing). My favorites are the Lobster roll & lemon chicken. Shakopee is brand worthy, runs like a clock, always spot on no matter how busy they are. It is always amazingly clean and accommodating of every customer no matter how busy. I just love the food at Mallards. Everything I have tried comes out fresh and hot. Most recently I had the jumbo shrimp & grits. The grilled shrimp and creamy, savory grits were so delish I could t stop eating. My hubby has the Jambalaya and he was just as delight. Their cold Ceviche and chips was fresh and some of the best I ever had. The staff in Bloomington is attentive and friendly. We never felt rushed. I have had their lobster Rolls and Korean Meatballs. This review is brunch only. Nice space, friendly staff. Food was a mix of awesome and train wreck, or actually shipwreck. Fried shrimp were some of the best you can get anywhere. Eggs Benedict gets points for real hollandaise (a bit stingy though) and a nice crab cake but loses a few for runny egg whites. It also needed a side of potatoes of some sort. Shipwreck looked great but none of us cared for the cheesy hash browns which were made with a type of cream cheese and the overall bland flavor. Prices were very reasonable. read more

Cheesy hash browns were mushy with not a lot of flavor and toast cold and dry, felt like it was left in the toaster and not buttered. Other than that food was good and we'll be back for the Tennessee Hot Chicken Sandwich as it apparently has the same chicken as the waffle and that was awesome! I live near the MOA, and their Bloomington location is just down the road. We met our friends for a double date here and none of us have ever been. There were no expectations, but we heard the fish is excellent. We ordered the following: 1. Thai Peanut Chicken Chop 2. Salmon New Orleans 3. Fish & Chips 4. Fried Shrimp The only suggestion regarding the salad was to get the dressing on the side. Too much is served. The other dishes were great. The service was top notch. Ordered a round of beers which were served pretty quick. The waitress was attentive and have great recommendations. The ambiance is very clean and roomy. Came to Mallard's to celebrate belated birthday for my son in law. They had eaten here once before and loved it. I now love it too. Was very surprised to see that they were not very busy, I think the location is not the best for them kind of off the beaten path. I had the lobster roll and it could be the best one I have ever had, the amount of lobster was surprising, I swear there were 2 full lobsters in it if not more and so buttery and flavorful and they let me substitute cheesy has browns for the fries as I am always a sucker for good cheesy browns. But my fiancé had the fries and they were amazing too, don't know which I liked better. He had the fish po boy and it wasn't really his favorite maybe the sauce was offf for him, he didn't really say. My daughter had the crab benedict and she loved it she is pregnant and not big on spicy food so she asked for the seasoning to not be added I think it was more like a cajun spice. The birthday boy had the mushroom scramble and he loved it, they sure don't skip on mushrooms. A table next to us had the chicken and waffles that looked very tempting too. Our waiter was nice enough but didn't refill our water until we were almost out. Again very surprised with how dead it was on a Sunday at 11:45. We always like to bring new people here because the food is so good. One got surf and turf with fried shrimp. The other got fried shrimp and fries, and asked for the sweet potatoe casserole on the side. They were decent size shrimp too. Not the little popcorn that you usually see. Our friends said you get a lot of food for the money. They loved everything. They were a part of the clean plate club! Matt was our server and he was very nice and attentive. Mallards recently opened up at this location and we decided to try it. It's right on the busy corner of Penn and American Blvd, you can't miss it. Easy to get to and plenty or parking in the lot next to it. We sat outside on their smaller, simple patio. The server greeted us right away and said she'd be back to take our drink orders. She didn't come back for at least ten minutes.... More on the service later. They have a nice variety of cocktails to choose from. I liked that their cocktails didn't just have one kind of booze in all of them which a lot of places do. I went for the mojito and it was perfectly refreshing. I also really liked their food menu. It's not your standard menu you see around the suburbs. They had a nice balance of seafood dishes mixed with American dishes. I had the surf and turf with lobster bisque. It's a small 4oz steak but it was cooked perfectly and topped with seasoned butter. I didn't really care for the mashed potatoes or lobster bisque. The lobster bisque didn't have much of a lobster taste but tasted more of a roasted red pepper soup. The food was average but the service was horrible. I'm not sure if it was short staffing and this particular server. It took them at least ten minutes to put just a drink order in. By then we were ready to order dinner as well. They brought my dish out but totally missed ringing up my partners dish. So I had my food all ready on the table and he had to wait for his to be rerung up. They at least gave us a round of drinks on the house. Hopefully we just caught them on a bad night because I would like to try this place again. read more

Great location with plenty of parking- major plus for me and friends who came for happy hour. Honestly, after looking over the menu I think the only options for Mallards is happy hour. Everything else seems very expensive and there are several other options in the area for great food at a reasonable cost. Happy hour wise you'll find great deals on drinks and food- but you wont find friendly service. I felt like the bartender was kind of rude, they didn't want to answer any of the questions and we felt more like a burden despite being paying customers. The sliders and fries are good, in fact all of the appetizers we had were tasty and again the price point for HH felt right. If we had better service I would have rated Mallards a 4/5 but the bartender rubbed me the wrong way and we haven't been back sense. read more

Drive by this place daily and finally gave it a go! All four of us agreed our food was really good! Corn chowder was creamy, and yummy! I got the Tennessee hot chicken sandwich and it was super good! I liked the pickles and slaw that came on it. A good level of spice as well! It's a big sandwich, too. My sister got the gluten free chocolate cake and of course I had to snag a bite! It is superrrr rich and more of a dark chocolate base. I LOVED it, but it was a bit too rich for my sisters liking. Our server was fantastic. We got seated right away at 6pm on a Saturday. I ordered to go and went to pick up. It's in the parking lot with a bunch of other things so a bit hectic to find parking up close. When I went in - there was no one at the host stand and the bartender saw me and asked how he could help. I let him know I had a to-go order so he told me to go to the scratch off stand. Now, I'm not sure what they have going on but looks fun - I've never been. But inside was kind of a cool sports bar fun vibe. I paid for my meal and was on my way. First, I did like that the butter was off to the side so I can control the amount used. The sandwich was a fair price for the amount of lobster was in it! I really enjoyed the sandwich. We came here for my birthday because I was feeling some tasty Cajun food and seafood. We have been regulars of Mallards in Bayport but have yet to try their newest location in Bloomington. I would say that this location is their new flagship. Trendy, modern nautical decor, lively cocktail menu, and solid southern inspired seafood menu blows anything that the Red Lobster down the street could muster. This is my new go to place for seafood and southern cuisine. I decided to treat myself and split a lobster roll and shrimp and grits. I have had the privilege to enjoy fresh Maine lobster rolls while in Portland, ME so how does it compare? Not bad, not as good as in Maine but for Minnesota, pretty darn tasty. I like how they blended both Maine and New England styles together in a butter/mayo mixture, which some people might throw a fit over but I always find hard to choose! The shrimp and grits was phenomenal. The grits were cheesy which is a must and it was topped with a deliciously rich bacon jam and savory cajun cream sauce. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and were seasoned very well. So good!!! We finally finished our meal with a slice of their light and bright key lime pie. Perfect ending to a great meal. Service was excellent and the waitress was great, very friendly and prompt. The staff treated us like family and made our night very special. This is a welcome to change to the Red Robin that was in this location before. The layout is better now than it was before, for when there are long wait times, but service and parking still leave a slight bit to be desired at times. And, while I will say it's not the best in its wheelhouse of offerings, it is pretty good-to-above average at it. I've got absolutely nothing to complain about with how my shrimp and grits were served. It's not the same consistency you'd expect down south, but this is Minnesota after all. And it tasted amazing. We had a unique experience at Mallard's. Not bad, just unique. Firstly, it was a total rainstorm while we were there, so it was pretty empty. The four of us got sat at a table for about 10 people which was...unexpected. We ordered drinks and the waiter appeared to be pretty young. We asked for a beer list and he pulled a very warm and crumpled piece of torn paper out of his back pocket and handed it to us. How appetizing! We ordered the walleye bites which were very yummy as well as some brussel sprouts. For my meal, I ordered the Seafood Canolli Pasta which was tasty but could've used quite a bit more seasoning. I knew it would be heavy when I ordered it, so no complaints there, but do know that going into it! Some of our party members decided to split a bottle of wine after learning there was a deal (almost one hour into the visit). They asked for two glasses, the waiter nodded, and brought three. Again it's not a huge deal at ALL, but we were all just super confused by the end of the night. It felt like the waiter's head was elsewhere and listen, I get it. My head is usually elsewhere, but it was kind of just one thing after another! I'd probably try Mallard's again, but not sure it would be my top recommendation for a visitor! read more

But try just the blackened cod if you don't wanna spend much. If there's 2 of you do the shrimp boil once. Average upper middle class place. Dead on a snowy Tuesday night but it was late so it was fine. Half of bottles of wine on Tuesday's - awesome! Except don't get a bottle over $50 because then you only get $25 off... thanks to my server for informing me of that (not!). Had the surf and turf. I liked the portion size so that was great and the steak and shrimp were good too. The only way to get any real vegetable side though is to order a salad so it is a bit lacking in that respect... fully a meat and potato kinda place. A colleague and I came to Mallards for lunch based on their good reviews. We both tried the Korean Fried Chicken Tacos, and shared Brussels Sprouts and Caesar Salad. I found each dish to be above average but nothing really jumped out as amazing. The Korean tacos were substantial and crispy but lacked sauce. The slaw was fresh and I enjoyed the pickled veggies on the tacos. I just wish the chicken had been coated in some type of gouchujang (sp?) or sweet spicy BBQ instead of the light drizzle they had. The Brussels Sprouts were quite good but a little undercooked. The flavor was there, and they had a nice sear. The Caesar was unfortunately too lightly dressed and lacked any real umami, thinking it was more of a bottled Caesar dressing. read more

We were in Bloomington on a weeknight evening and my son has been begging to try Mallard's and figured Tuesday is as good as any other day. Mallard's Bloomington is a fairly large restaurant, part of the building is semi-circle with large windows - quite appealing in my opinion. It's modern, lots of space and clean - including the bathrooms. You walk in and the bar is to your right and if you walk straight down you'll end up at the restaurant portion of Mallard's. Unfortunately we couldn't sit at one of the large windows due to our party being to large for a booth but I think a date night would be nice to sit there. We ordered fish and chips, smash burger and fries, and crispy lemon chicken. The fish was fried a perfect golden brown and flaked well when bitten into. The fries were your average fries. The small burger was cooked well but still juicy with a tasty garlic aioli. The crispy lemon chicken with mashed potatoes was was decent but odd. I think it might have been better if the chicken wasn't fried or perhaps the capers threw it off but it was different - not bad just different. I'm not sure I'd order it again. I'd like to try the crab fries and the shrimp and grit though. The waitress seated us quickly since it was slow. The waitress was attentive and quick with our needs.
