Not a bad spot for some seafood! I think it was a huge letdown that they wouldn't allow you to pick out your fish from the counter and have the chefs prepare it. Big miss in my book especially when numerous other fish market concepts do that. The food was okay overall -- nothing particularly stood out and a lot of the stuff was overcooked just a touch unfortunately. So (1) cook the products to perfection and (2) consider letting customers directly pick out fish that they want you to grill. They did have a nice deli/imported products section where I picked up some of the most insane iberico ham that I had ever seen.

This small kitchen at the back of the Coastal Seafood store may be tiny, with not much seating, but it sure is good! It's a quick service counter, and they bring your food to you. Quite a few options, including non seafood dishes. They've got soups, salads, hot and cold seafood options and is overall really delicious.

    My double smash. So good!!!!!

Probably the best smash burger you will ever find. Found this gem two years ago when visiting MN and had the BEST burger. Back in MN this weekend so had to pay another visit. Wow! Even better than I recall the last time. Honestly this place is a gem. Plus I picked up a few giant cooked shrimp to have on the side. Cannot recommend this place enough! It is awesome! If you find yourself in Minneapolis, don't miss this place. It is a gem! Service is great too. Everyone super nice and helpful.

IMHO We needed to find oysters for grandpa and discovered Coastal Seafoods. When you walk through the doors, you enter a bright world of seafood offerings from fresh fish to canned sardines, condiments, breads, oyster shuckers, etc. Oh, and there is a corner cafe in the back to order specialized fish sandwiches and other yummy things. If we hadn't already eaten a big lunch, I'd have loved to order some fish 'n chips! I'm a photo hobbyist and was a visitor to the area, so I was taking pictures to share on this Yelp review. There was no issue until one young employee showed his displeasure. Sorry. If you need fresh seafood and a wide variety, get thee to Coastal Seafoods! I'm sure you'll find almost anything you need.

    Fish and chips were fantastic!

This is THE place to get fresh seafood in the Twin Cities! We have bought oysters there several times and they are always amazing! The staff here is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable - just ask if you have any questions. Be sure to check out the small restaurant in the back. The lobster roll is fantastic and so are the fish and chips!

Thought the senior discount on Tuesday included the restaurant. It doesn't. Tried the fish and chips. They were ok.

I originally came here to purchase fresh fish for Sushi (which is incredible), but I didn't realize that there was a little restaurant in the corner. I ordered the fish tacos and they were cooked right in front of me! Mmm, you can hear the fish sizzle as you wait. It was a fantastic fish taco.

Coastal Seafoods is home of the best seafood in the Twin Cities without a doubt! Coastal is a restaurant and seafood market that is unparalleled in quality and selection. I have gone to the market part of it to get fish quite a number of times. I have purchased their Verlasso Salmon, King Ora Salmon, Ahi Tuna, and Crabcakes. The fish is all super fresh, super delicious, and a lot of them are even sashimi grade. I have used the salmon and tuna to make my own homemade sushi with my friends for a sushi night and it was a huge hit. I'd argue the fish here tastes way better and fresher than any of the sushi restaurants around town. Now onto the cafe, I finally had the chance to try the cafe a couple of months ago and was blown away. At the cafe, they turn a lot of the products they sell in the market side into the most delicious dishes. I decided to go with the Coastal Fish and Chips as I was really craving them after watching them post videos of making them on their Instagram. My friends got the Connecticut Style Lobster Roll. Let me just say, that may have been the best fish and chips I've ever had. The outside was crispy and flavorful, but the inside was so soft and tender. Paired with the tartar sauce, coleslaw, and fries and oh my god - you have one of the most delectable meals of all time. My friends somehow outdid me with their Connecticut style lobster roll - while I didn't get to try this, I can tell by their reactions that this was a life changing roll. By just looking at it, I can say it's one of the best, if not the best, in the Twin Cities. When (and it's when not if) I come back, I will need to try some more menu items - probably the Connecticut roll first - because everything sounded and looked absolutely phenomenal. The staff at the cafe and market are both very friendly and helpful. If you ask them to skin and debone your fish, they'll usually do it for you as well which can save a lot of time - just make sure to double check for bones because a lot of times there can be some missed sneaky ones. The cafe side is very small with just a few tables, but it wasn't too crowded when we were there and we could easily grab a table without issue. And while it was bad weather when we visited, they do have a large area outside with picnic tables that look perfect for soaking in the sun and enjoying a good lobster roll! The vibe is definitely casual, but it's extremely clean and everything in there is so pristine. Also just a fun note, but if you are planning to make sushi at home - grab some sashimi grade fish from Coastal and then head next door to United Noodles and get all of your other sushi needs (rice, nori, etc.)

Coastal seafoods is NOT just a market. They've also got food. First, their market seems great. Fresh and well chosen items. Friendly staff. Second, their food is incredible. I got the fish and chips and it truly stood out as some of the best fish and chips I've had. Perfectly fried and seasoned. Fries were also perfectly fried and seasoned. And of course great cole slaw and tartar sauce. I will be back. AMBIANCE: it's a small dining area with only a handful of tables but it is very clean and comfortable. Doesn't feel like just a "grocery store cafeteria". It's a big step up from that though it is small. PARKING: not a problem here. They've got a lot.

This place has the best lobster roll I've had in MN. That's it, that's all. Not sure what more I can say? It's simply the best lobster roll, you have to try it yourself. When I visited, there's no sit-down area; it's all to go. They have other options on their menu too, so check that out. I only go for my lobster rolls and even though the price keeps going up, I will continue going back. Always worth it.

Already ate the fries. 9/10. Sandwich 9/10. The coleslaw was very unique 9/10. Perfect creamy slaw for seafood.

I will say the service was what tipped it from 4 star to 5 star. The employees behind the counter were great. The employees at the cafe were awesome and the gal who checked me out was very pleasant. I was a little disappointed on today's selection. I came here to get seafood to make cioppino. Didn't have fresh raw shrimp, small clams or crab. Maybe it's the time of year but found them at Lunds. The prices were much better than Lunds. I will be a regular here even though I had to drive from Lakeville. Keep up the best customer service!!!

The class was excellent. Very fun and educational. They provided the list of ingredients, equipment and recipe in advance so you could be prepared and prep in advance and cook along at the same pace as the chef and enjoy dinner afterwards. We mashed the beans (or you could use a food processor). And chopped the veggies. (chef used fresh, I sautéed mine first I just don't care for onion or raw garlic). Add spices (cumin, Hot paprika, pepper, salt, and sauce. We eat an egg ( or you can make Chia seed egg) and you could add breadcrumbs. We then mixed with our hands and formed patties. One can of black beans makes four burgers. As we cooked, host Lasked questions and also relayed our questions from the chat. Chef Jess provided her background and how she got into the cooking and being a personal chef now and trying to make healthy meals and promote wellness through food. She gave lots of suggestions on various summer meals and a variety of veggie burger combinations. And showed us how to chop the vegetables and provided the knife she prefers. She gave us tips on photographing food from above not the side (Check out my cool hands in the air photos) Made mine with black beans, poblano, peppers, carrots. onions, egg and buffalo sauce. (I sautéd the veggies with garlic and herbs) we baked the burgers in oven. Chef Jess used Sriracha. But she gave us lots of suggestions in how to make it your own. she gave alternates if you wanted to make it vegan or gluten-free or dairy free etc. (I am pescatarian). As far as assembling the burgers. I fried two eggs. And sliced an avocado, tomato and some radishes Topped with the buffalo sauce (use sour cream instead of mayo), avocados, radish, and tomato and served on mixed greens. You don't need no stinking bread. Yum. They turned out so good. And so filling. I'll be making again. Next time with garbanzo beans. Thank you Chef Jess! And thank you seaward community co-op /Lawson for hosting.

In…read morere-reading my reviews, I stand by everything I've said about the excellent consistent quality of the food, the service, and how much I enjoy coming to this restaurant. I truly hope they are around longer than I am. I would hate to find out this was one of the choices no longer available to us. Please read my previous reviews for a more inclusive view; this review focuses only on their lobster. I had previously mentioned that they prices of their lobsters (I love the version with black bean sauce) have gone up tremendously. While true, there seems to have been a subtle change in their pricing strategy. Previously (as of before the pandemic), the lobster was priced by the pound, which is the conventional way of doing it. However, they seem to have two lobster prices. The first one is called "Big Lobster" and they say it's between 2 and 2 and half pounds per lobster. The price of that (as of this review) is $56 dollars, or $28 per pound. That's not really a bad price at all. It's expensive, but reasonable. The other lobster is called "Live Lobster" and is priced $10 less at $46. So the real question is how much does this second version weigh? I ordered the Big Lobster, but they said they were out of it. I asked the weight of the "Live Lobster" but I didn't really get a straight answer, but he seemed to say "about two pounds" which doesn't really make sense because that's the price of the larger, more expensive lobster. But I decided to go for it anyway. As I stated in my last review, I'm guessing this lobster is at least two pounds, based on many years of eating lobster. For this review, I had ChatGPT translate the the Chinese on the menu, thinking it was secret code for "if you can read Chinese, save ten dollars by ordering this version" but AI says the Chinese means "lobster" so if you spoke Chinese, you'd still be mystified. So my recommendation is order the version that is ten dollars cheaper and you may (or may not) be paying $23 a pound. Price aside, I love this version of lobster and it is certainly a better deal than what you would pay at an American style seafood or steak restaurant in the Twin Cities.

It was nice visiting and enjoying some of our previously go-to dishes. The soft shell crab made with golden garlic style was as delicious as I remembered, although at a much higher price now ($44+) for the dish. The seafood soup was a nice start to our meal, would have been even better if they had red vinegar. The mapo tofu and eggplant dishes that we ordered ended up being very similar in taste/sauce/seasoning but still pretty good. The service was pretty fast and the staff was friendly.
