Chicken and snow peas
Kimberly F.

This was a good place to get a quick meal before a game at University of Minnesota. We were seated quickly. There were several tables already eating and more people came in the whole time we were there. It's not a huge place. We were offered hot tea and water as soon as we were seated. It was a cold day so we appreciated the warm drink. My husband and I had a cup of egg drop soup to start. I had chicken with snow peas and my husband had stir fried vegetables. They call their sauce gravy which is appropriate since it is on the thick side. The white rice was very nice. I wasn't a fan of the egg drop soup it was pretty bland. I would definitely try one of the others. The veggies were nice and crisp. The chicken was tender. The speed of service was good.

Cream cheese wontons

After seeing a lot of buzz on Yelp, I had to check this place out. Many people raved about the wontons, egg rolls, and orange chicken -- so my group tried all three, plus an extra dish: cashew chicken. First off, I have to give credit where it's due -- the portion sizes here are generous. Too often, spots skimp on rice, but not here. Both main dishes came out big, and definitely worth the price in terms of quantity. The wontons were tasty, with a thicker wrapper that made them heartier than usual. The egg rolls were decent -- enjoyable, but I've had better (especially at one standout spot I still think about). Still, they did the job. The cashew chicken was flavorful and balanced, but my personal favorite was the orange chicken. It stood out -- not overly sweet or artificial-tasting, and the pieces weren't overly breaded like at some places. Just solid, well-cooked chicken with a sauce that actually complemented it. The only downside? Parking. It's in Dinkytown, so if you're not familiar, be ready for a bit of a hunt. We showed up during a college bar crawl, which made things worse, and ended up paying over $5 just to park. Not the restaurant's fault, but something to plan for. Overall, the food delivered on most of the hype. I'd go back -- especially for the orange chicken.

Five spice crab, Chinese broccoli, beef chow fun, squid in container

The food here is always so good! Authentic Chinese food. Great place for dine in or take out. We did take out for a girls night and it was delicious. We got our favorites we usually order from Chinese restaurants. The Chinese broccoli, beef chow fun, squid and decided to splurge on five spice crab and everything was delicious. We ate every bite. Pick up was easy. They were very nice and gave us extra utensils and chili oil.

College area fast-food Chinese style restaurant. Jenny, super attentive and sweet did a great job taking care of us. She kindly made the egg drop soup without chicken broth, and the other entrees like the sesame tofu and cream cheese wontons were yummy! Note, "Chinese broccoli" is not the same as regular broccoli. I've been educated! It wasn't my cuppa, but was my error. Will visit again when in town!

Food hit the spot for what I was looking for and they have your standard staples for Chinese food which is probably why a lot of people seem to get takeout here! I found a little corner and ordered wonton soup and their egg foo young. I felt like the wonton soup was great and the soup wasn't as salty as some other places make it, but the egg foo young curry wasn't something I would necessarily go for again. Next time I would probably go for one of their seafood stir fried rice noodles, maybe the beef chow fun, or something different. Portion size was pretty great given the size though and I was able to take a bit home. Service was a little slow but quick overall. Per my rule of thumb for Chinese restaurants back in LA though, the service probably won't be the most prompt and might be a little curt (a little water was poured outside of my cup and wasn't even wiped away) but I think it definitely hits the spot and nostalgic in a way with the food and cooking style. In all honesty, it can't beat some of my fav hole in the walls in LA, but it hits the spot when you're homesick. Since it was in a college town the vibes were very college town. Parking is also difficult as a result. Overall though it seems quite popular and I'd be interested in getting takeout next time I'm in the cities with friends! :)

Lunch special: fish fillet with black bean sauce and cream cheese wontons

Food: tasty Service: quick and friendly Ambiance: feels somewhat like a mom and pop Chinese restaurant I ordered the fish fillet with black bean sauce lunch special with the cream cheese wontons and white rice. The fish was well cooked and tasted fresh! The veggies were crunchy, and the sauce had a good kick to it. As for the cream cheese wontons, they were fine/good. The shell was super crispy/crunchy and the inside was just plain cream cheese. I do wish they gave the Thai chili sauce instead of the duck sauce for them. That would make them even better!

5/5 - Fresh, Flavorful, and Consistently Delicious! If you're looking for truly great Chinese food, this place never disappoints. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor, and you can taste how fresh everything is. The ingredients are always high quality, the portions are generous, and the seasoning is spot-on--balanced, bold, and never oily or heavy. What I appreciate most is the consistency. Whether it's a classic favorite or something new on the menu, the food is always made fresh to order and arrives piping hot. You can tell the kitchen puts real care into every plate. Highly recommend for anyone craving flavorful, freshly made Chinese food. This spot has definitely earned a permanent place in my rotation!

Egg drop soup.

Delicious and Fast! The chicken fried rice was the best I've had in a long time. The egg drop soup was also the best I've had in forever!

Stopped here with my dad earlier today. Super cheap food. Especially with their lunch deals. I think we spent $23 total for him and I. The food was not the best but decent. Definitely recommend for a college vibe and for good portion sizes with great prices

Beef with preserved vegetable, bakes squid, pan fried noodles and shrimp, salty fish and chicken fried rice.

I have been coming for 25 years when the original owner ( older lady) ran " a super TIGHT" ship…read morebarking orders to staff, racing around full speed with her almost non stop orders especially on weekends. (Loved chatting with her, miss her.) Several times I saw whole HUGE beautifully roasted and decorated entire pigs sold out the door for private parties! EVERYONE came back then from EVERYWHERE! She was " famous" state wide for having the BEST DUCK. She had delicious big bowls of noodle duck soup too! Her roast duck and roast or barbecued pork were New York City Chinatown quality!!!!! ( I grew up & worked in NewYork for 40 years) Sadly she passed away and about 5 years ago I slowly saw the quality portion size cooking process and especially taste/flavor in the seasoning and marinating almost disappear. I wrote about this on my last trip from Florida where I moved 5 years ago. We permanently moved back to MN 1/26 and just returned to House of Wu today. OUTSTANDING.... Perfect Juicy. Just like in her original old days! Yay! Finally. Today the dining room was filled with 10 older and a few younger family and staff- - an EXCELLENT sign that her original recipes and wonderful care and quality of preparation HAVE RETURNED. Thank you. Thank you family.

This has always been our secret spot for good meat. Our favorites are the roast duck and bbq pork…read more Back in the day we would go to the back and just watch them chop up the meat and order back there. Now it's all to go orders. Easier to call ahead. Back when it was dine in there was barely anyone there. Taste has been consistent for many years. they are not friendly but the food makes up for it. Prices definitely went up but it's still the best deal around. We still order for our holiday parties. Lately we've just been ordering when we crave it. I've always loved how the restaurant actually looks like a house, makes me wonder if anyone is living upstairs.
