Food here is wonderful. One of the few cozy buffets left. About a dozen high quality dished on the buffet, instead of those mega buffets where they have 100 dishes, but everything is bland. The food is good. I ordered to go. I asked for it to be ready at a certain time and I received an alert that it was ready 20 mins early. Also, I ordered rice without onions and they didn't honor that request. When I called they wanted me to bring it back. Didn't offer to refund me. 20 mins later now 8:00pm a woman called and said she was coming over to get the rice and bring me my $13. When I said no she argued with me. I was there for lunch and my party opted to do the lunch buffet. It was a small buffet consisting of 2 islands of food. Many of the pans were over 50% empty. I was a little bummed because one of the guests took only the beef in the beef and broccoli. The food was average at best. The customer service was amazing. Drinks were brought out right away. My water was never more than half empty at all times. Plates were cleared immediately which is rare at most buffets. When the check was presented they made a point to advise to enjoy as much as we'd like. The interior is a little dated but it just reminds me of the Chinese restaurants of my youth. Really good American-style Chinese food. And honestly the best time to come is for lunch when they have the buffet. It's great because you can try a little of lots of things and see what you like. The service is always really nice here and they take care that you get everything you need. I've never ordered take-away from here but it seems to be a thriving business because I see a lot of people picking up orders while I enjoy my meal. Hunan is like your typical chinese buffet, but the food is actually good! Most times when you go to a Chinese buffet there's plenty of options but they're all really mediocre. Hunan takes this concept and flips the script. There's a lot less options (still plenty though) but they're excel at all of them. I'm definitely going back next time I'm in the mood for a buffet! This past Christmas, my partner and I were looking for a new local Chinese restaurant. Growing up, one of our traditions was to order Chinese take out or go for Chinese food on Christmas Eve. It's been so long since I have done this tradition, but I'm glad I started again and chose Hunan Restaurant. I am not sure how crowded this place typically is, but it wasn't too crowded. There was maybe about 10 other tables. We visited on Christmas Eve. Could have been slower due to the holiday. It's a little low lighting in there, but light enough to enjoy your meal. We ordered the following: 1. Cream cheese wontons 2. Fried egg roll 3. Fried shrimp 4. Chicken fried rice 5. Walnut shrimp 6. General Tao All had great flavor, but what really stood out was the Walnut Shrimp. Some of the best I've had. It was crispy and served hot! Actually, all the food was served hot. Made for an enjoyable dinner. My suggestion is to try this hidden gem and order the Walnut Shrimp. You won't be disappointed. It's refreshing to receive speedy and efficient service. It is a bit hidden behind fast food offerings off the nearest main road but conveniently located near several shopping and grocery stores. I enjoy the food at Hunan Restaurant. I've visited at least 3 or 4x so far. I've tried beef fried rice, chicken wings, chicken skewers, white rice, fried rice side and I think I ordered beef chow mein by accident. Service is also enjoyable. Anytime I've stopped by to pick up my to-go order, I was greeted pleasantly, upon entry. He verified my order and I've watched him greet other patrons and sat them just as pleasantly. The ambiance is suuuper old skool. It doesn't give high end, it doesn't give hole in the wall either, but definitely gives this is same table, chair and wall decor that was here when it first opened, no matter how many owners it may have had. LOL So dated may be a better way to address that. It's a very small, Mom and Pop sized establishment. I have yet to dine in, but it seems to have steady flow of customers that stop by. The Hunan is a hidden gem. Hiding behind sonic drive-in, it's hard to spot. It is your average Chinese restaurant with a huge menu. What I really enjoyed about this place was their dine-in buffet. Unfortunately, it is closed until further notice, but I really hope they will bring it back soon. For now, they offer dine-in and take out. I tried the sesame chicken combo and the house lo mein. The combination platters come with your choice of rice and either an egg roll or cream cheese puff. It is noted that the sesame chicken is spicy on the menu but it has no spice whatsoever. I really enjoyed the sesame chicken. It had a perfect crunch and lovely taste. The egg roll had a cinnamon taste to it that weirded me out. I did not enjoy it at all. The fried rice was okay but had too much egg in it. That's all I really tasted was eggy rice. I thoroughly enjoyed the house lo mein. Huge portion size with plenty for leftovers! So, I rank restaurants by stars when you consider comparing them to similar restaurants - in a similar price point, so the review is appropriate to expectations. The fried rice had the best wok hei flavor I have had in a long time. The chef knew what he/she was doing, with the dark color rice one would assume it was drenched in soy sauce and very salty, and that was not the case at all - it was perfect with crunchy bean sprouts. The same "wok" comments apply on the moo goo gai pan. The sauce was better than I've eaten anywhere in the past. Vegetables were firm and the chicken had that soft velvet texture. The service was fast. The food was hot and I was checked on several times while eating. This is obviously a family owned small restaurant, proud of their food yet tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. It's a gem, so go eat here. read more

Well, here's the deal. The food here is very good. So why 3*? Came it at 1p for the Buffett. Stayed for 40 minutes and the only dish they refreshed was the sesame chicken. We always get the kung pao chicken and honey walnut chicken - both are AMAZING!! We also get the wontons every time we go which are my favorite! They're light, crispy, and subtly sweet. Just delish! Prior to Covid, this place was rocking during the lunch time. If you didn't get their early (for their buffet) you might wait 15-20 min as every table was taken. Fast forward to today.... Buffet is still not in service but we went anyway. 12:15pm and this place was quiet and dark. Four other tables....it was sad. The service was fast and the menu was fine but man, what a difference. All of the old buffet setup was still in the room but maybe they were hoping the lack of light would draw your eyes elsewhere. The food was fine....not impressive but fine. I've read new ownership on other reviews....maybe? It was just sad to see such a packed place (in a strip mall) have so little customers now. As we were walking out another customer came in and made their dissatisfaction known to the guy at the counter. This is what a Chinese restaurant is supposed to be. The food is fantastic, the service is friendly, prompt, attentive (Jimmy took great care of us), and the ambience is subtle and romantic. We ordered the chicken lo mein, the egg foo young, and the potstickers. The lo mein was rich and flavorful, the potstickers were good, but the egg foo yong was spectacular! I really like getting takeout from here while in town. Their product is pretty good although I do have a few issues and they are small. The typical difference between Gen Tso's chicken and sesame chicken is very little. Sesame seeds or a few chiles. However here they are very different. The general is pretty typical and pretty good. The sesame is simply sweet and sour chicken pieces with sauce on it and sesame seeds. It doesn't taste nearly as good. Also they put a small bit of shredded lettuce in the bottom as garnish which is awful. That lettuce is fully wilted from the heat and now adds an unwelcoming odor to the entire dish and it simply doesn't need to be there. The other items I've had have all been good and the service is quick and friendly. Be sure to ask for cutlery as they don't put it in the bag and even ignore requests for it when ordering delivery app. read more

The broccoli with garlic sauce ($10) is spicy and not over-cooked, keeping a nice snap to the broccoli. It's also not a gloopy or sweet sauce. The stir-fried green beans ($12) were okay, but slightly over-cooked. The mapo tofu (meatless) ($12) is spicy and not authentic per se (it has peas, carrots and mushrooms), but was still really savory and tasty. The tofu family style ($11) has nicely fried tofu with lightly cooked cabbage and lots of spice. I loved the color in this dish. Lastly, the vegetable chow fun ($12) was respectable. Been coming here for years, always been 5/5 stars until now. Definitely new staff, I asked if it was under new ownership, didn't get a response, he refused to answer. Went to order online, saw a credit card fee, service fee. Two items would have been $29. So I called it in, man on phone said it will be $30 even. After tax.. using menu online it came to $25.94. I addressed this when I went into the store. They charged me for fried rice which I didn't order. Food was just adequate compared to previous orders. Chicken in my Vegie dish, never happened before. Forgot to put peppers in my husbands Kung Pao Chicken. Previously, place would have 6-10 tables filled with customers, only saw one. We were the only take out order which is a first in twenty years! Somewhat disappointed in my Hunan Lamb order. I have ordered this dish for the past 40 years and it was my all time favorite. Now, in the past couple of years they seem to have forgotten the original recipe. It use to have a thicker sauce, was a bit spicier, and had a uniquely delicious flavor that really had a niche following that many people I know including me just craved.
