The restaurant was packed & very busy! Apparently everyone loves it here. Our experience was good. Since it was so busy, some food was not replenished as quickly as we hoped and they ran out of many things. I was not a fan of the cream cheese wontons, as the outside used was too thick. The servers were quick and accommodating to our drink requests & cleaning up our finished plates. Beverages are included which was nice. I love getting hot tea. Great spot for AYCE americanized asian food. Located in a strip mall, there is plenty of free parking available in a lot. You pay when you first arrive with cash or card (they only take visa and mastercard). Note that if you pay with a card and add a tip, they will just give you cash from the register for the tip amount to leave at your table when you leave. I would bring cash to tip your server with at your table. After paying, you can seat yourself anywhere and a server will come by and take your beverage order. The buffet includes unlimited soft drinks, drip coffee, and hot tea. Their Dr. Pepper is extra syrupy compared to normal fountain drinks, would recommend! Throughout the meal, the server will clear your empty plates and at the end of the meal they will drop off fortune cookies and towelettes. Crab days are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. During these days they serve lil crabs. There is also a build your own noodle station where you can choose your mix-ins and sauces, and they'll fry it up for you. I heard about this buffet about a year and a half ago, and I finally had the chance to check it out. My wife and I arrived and quickly noticed that parking could be a bit challenging. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, and most of the businesses in that strip mall have signs posted saying "No buffet parking," which limits the available spots unless you don't mind walking a short distance. We got there just before the dinner rush and managed to find a few open spaces. Inside, the restaurant was beautifully decorated. We went up to the front counter, told the gentleman how many were in our party, and paid for our meals. One thing that stood out was the tip process, when you choose to leave a tip during payment, they hand it to you in cash so you can personally give it to your server. I thought that was a really nice touch from Dragon Star. The buffet itself had an impressive variety of options, including a Hibachi station. What caught my attention about the Hibachi was how the two cooks used a round grill and long sticks to prepare the food, it was entertaining to watch and they made sure the food went neatly into each customers bowls. However, one thing I didn't like was that the pork and chicken were placed too close together and were touching, which isn't ideal for those of us who don't eat pork. On the plus side, the cooks kept the grill spotless between uses, which was great to see. They also offered plenty of desserts and had a ton of seating. Despite the limited parking, the buffet is reasonably priced, has a good selection of sushi, and offers a great dining experience overall. My wife and I definitely plan to return, next time we'll try to go before 4 p.m., since things get pretty hectic around 5, but that's to be expected with all the good things Dragon Star has to offer. read more

Because this place got it right initially and it's pretty popular, they always have mountain high piles of fresh food out. They're very consistent in the food quality as well. And the sushi is pretty good and plentiful as well. Don't sleep on the salad bar. The atmosphere is always clean and doesn't feel cheap at all, and the prices are actually fairly reasonable. Service is also consistent, they always get your drinks out to you and stop by to clean plates and do refills. Definitely a bi-weekly place for my family. read more

After being on a few too many cruises with buffets, I am repulsed by all you can eat places. Especially ones that allow customers to serve themselves. But, this place has renewed my enthusiasm! Yes, some people are simply gross and we'd rather not share a serving spoon with them. They were definitely at Dragon Star, but the taste and quality of the food honestly overshadowed their repulsiveness. I only got one plate of food during a weekday lunch buffet, but everything was outstanding. I did get some soft serve with a premade cheesecake dessert, too. Honestly, everything was really good and they offered a plethora of food for even the pickiest eaters. I'm not sure what the seasoning is here but I get home and I have a cloudy head, I get extremely bloated, and I feel nauseous. My family is a big fan of Asian food and my son loves buffets so while my parents where in town visiting, we looked for somewhere new to try. I've heard of Dragon Star Buffet and driven by it multiple times and always noticed a full parking lot (which must be a good sign) so decided to give this place a try. Inside, the interior and decor is beautiful. Large stained wooden beams line the dining area and a large indoor waterfall flowing into a koi fish pond gives it a luxurious feeling even though the room is lined with long tables designed for maximum capacity of buffet grazers. The place is big and can fit a lot of people so we did not have to wait to find a seat, although judging by the entrance design, it is intended to comfortably fit a big line of people waiting to get in. Drinks come with the buffet price and are brought by your server on a regular basis. The food selection is either in the form of ready to eat buffet selections or a teriyaki grill where you can pick what you want. Both had plenty of options, although I've been to places that had a much wider array of choice. I was able to find enough easily to fill my stomach. I also enjoyed that they had a wide array of sauces for your food, all in a tidy, one stop location. Super smart idea. Price point is a little on the higher side but they do offer some popular seafood dishes including crayfish, soft shell crab, and mussels. If it had crab legs, this would be one of the top places in the metro but alas, no crab. I do have to give credit to the staff and buffet attendants. Food on the line did not sit for very long. I noticed items being filled and swapped to maintain quality and freshness on a regular basis and it was never hard to find a hot, steaming tray of fresh food. There was even a guy whose job was to just go around and radio to the kitchen what was needed and basically counting down the clock on dishes. Everything was meticulously fresh, which is always hit or miss with buffets (it comes with the territory). All in all, we would go again if we were super hungry and wanting some decent Asian food. I'm knocking it just a bit because they did not have a couple common buffet dishes I love (Mongolian Beef being one of them). Currently In my top two asian buffets in the area. Other one being tokyo 23 buffet. Super packed on a sunday evening around six thirty. Twenty three nintey nine with drink; good price. Crawfish was great had just the right spice and in high demand today. Sushi was good salmon sashimi kicking butt n in high demand. One dish that was surprisingly good was the sesame chicken, Super crispy n fresh best I ever had, better than most resteraunts. Not feeling the mac n cheese, it lack flavor and the puddings were painfuly awful, bitter n disgusting, worst ever. Server was kool n attentive. Bathroom was a bit away, zig zagging to the back... Dragon Star Buffet is kind of like all the other Chinese buffets in the Twin Cities. It looks good, tastes alright and there's plenty of choices. Not a ton of flavor or spice at all, and most things were warm as they sat under the heating lamps. They have plenty of wait staff there to refill your drink, take away dirty plates and keep the buffet filled to the brim. The sushi was okay, the Mongolian grill section was fine, but none of the sauces were labeled, at least it came out nice and hot. The dining room is huge, and well kept and ornately decorated, from the outside of the building it doesn't look like much, but inside was well kept. I'd go back again, but it wont be anytime soon. They'll get a drink order from you and you can be on your merry way up to the amazing buffet of food. And wow, it is a buffet of food. So much to choose from!! I got to try a few things I haven't tried before - muscles was a first for me and it was pretty tasty. They also offer a stir fry that you can customize to your liking. They also added a few American foods: Mac n cheese and pizza, probably for the younger ones. Because the place is so big, there can be a lot of people crowding the food area. But the buffet tables were spread out and left plenty of space to get what you want fast. It all seemed fresh and clean too. Prices to me seemed cheap for a buffet -$24/person. The food was getting replenished pretty frequently and was fresh so I appreciated that. However, nothing stood out to me as delicious. Unlike other buffets, they will give you a utensil set and you go find your own table. This is kind of nice since you can pick wherever you want to sit. The buffet has a hibachi section, sushi, dessert, and typical buffet food. For Saturday dinner price there were NO crabs. They had shrimp, mussels, and crawfish. I'm guessing crabs might be offered on Sunday since it's all day dinner price? The sushi section did have some sashimi options like red tuna but didn't see any salmon. The hibachi section has a good selection of meat and veggies. It even has baby octopus. Wish there were more sauce options though. Overall, might be worthy to go for lunch but not much more for dinner price. May have to try Sunday to see if they have crabs. Even on days that it's really packed, there is always room, the place is HUGE. ok, one bad thing though, I went when it was really jam packed and the food never ran out but I think they were cooking it too fast and over cooking things.
