I heard about this buffet about a year and a half ago, and I finally had the chance to check it out. My wife and I arrived and quickly noticed that parking could be a bit challenging. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, and most of the businesses in that strip mall have signs posted saying "No buffet parking," which limits the available spots unless you don't mind walking a short distance. We got there just before the dinner rush and managed to find a few open spaces. Inside, the restaurant was beautifully decorated. We went up to the front counter, told the gentleman how many were in our party, and paid for our meals. One thing that stood out was the tip process, when you choose to leave a tip during payment, they hand it to you in cash so you can personally give it to your server. I thought that was a really nice touch from Dragon Star. The buffet itself had an impressive variety of options, including a Hibachi station. What caught my attention about the Hibachi was how the two cooks used a round grill and long sticks to prepare the food, it was entertaining to watch and they made sure the food went neatly into each customers bowls. However, one thing I didn't like was that the pork and chicken were placed too close together and were touching, which isn't ideal for those of us who don't eat pork. On the plus side, the cooks kept the grill spotless between uses, which was great to see. They also offered plenty of desserts and had a ton of seating. Despite the limited parking, the buffet is reasonably priced, has a good selection of sushi, and offers a great dining experience overall. My wife and I definitely plan to return, next time we'll try to go before 4 p.m., since things get pretty hectic around 5, but that's to be expected with all the good things Dragon Star has to offer.
My family is a big fan of Asian food and my son loves buffets so while my parents where in town visiting, we looked for somewhere new to try. I've heard of Dragon Star Buffet and driven by it multiple times and always noticed a full parking lot (which must be a good sign) so decided to give this place a try. Inside, the interior and decor is beautiful. Large stained wooden beams line the dining area and a large indoor waterfall flowing into a koi fish pond gives it a luxurious feeling even though the room is lined with long tables designed for maximum capacity of buffet grazers. The place is big and can fit a lot of people so we did not have to wait to find a seat, although judging by the entrance design, it is intended to comfortably fit a big line of people waiting to get in. Drinks come with the buffet price and are brought by your server on a regular basis. The food selection is either in the form of ready to eat buffet selections or a teriyaki grill where you can pick what you want. Both had plenty of options, although I've been to places that had a much wider array of choice. I was able to find enough easily to fill my stomach. I also enjoyed that they had a wide array of sauces for your food, all in a tidy, one stop location. Super smart idea. Price point is a little on the higher side but they do offer some popular seafood dishes including crayfish, soft shell crab, and mussels. If it had crab legs, this would be one of the top places in the metro but alas, no crab. I do have to give credit to the staff and buffet attendants. Food on the line did not sit for very long. I noticed items being filled and swapped to maintain quality and freshness on a regular basis and it was never hard to find a hot, steaming tray of fresh food. There was even a guy whose job was to just go around and radio to the kitchen what was needed and basically counting down the clock on dishes. Everything was meticulously fresh, which is always hit or miss with buffets (it comes with the territory). All in all, we would go again if we were super hungry and wanting some decent Asian food. I'm knocking it just a bit because they did not have a couple common buffet dishes I love (Mongolian Beef being one of them). Although I guess I could make it myself on their grill so it basically evens out.
Currently In my top two asian buffets in the area. Other one being tokyo 23 buffet. Super packed on a sunday evening around six thirty. Twenty three nintey nine with drink; good price. Crawfish was great had just the right spice and in high demand today. Sushi was good salmon sashimi kicking butt n in high demand. One dish that was surprisingly good was the sesame chicken, Super crispy n fresh best I ever had, better than most resteraunts. Not feeling the mac n cheese, it lack flavor and the puddings were painfuly awful, bitter n disgusting, worst ever. Server was kool n attentive. Bathroom was a bit away, zig zagging to the back... They so pack there sometimes, there are signs outside for patrons to not park in some areas, lol... Great buffet overall, highly recommended.
so many items to choose from. Duck, fried tilapia, nice sushi selection, and hibachi. very clean and well kept. All the staff is very friendly. Most importantly the staff stays on top of the cleanliness of the food and you can tell they are constantly changing out the tongs. Huge plus especially in a buffet. I just wish they would chill their desserts shooters.
If you're looking for a good Ole Chinese buffet to stuff yourself to the brink at, there is no better than Dragon Star! We drive down from Golden Valley and it's worth it every time! They have a very large selection of all the classics, specialty items like crawfish and sushi, a salad and dessert bar, and a Mongolian grill build-your-own stir fry station! I think I counted 7 hot bars.. Crazy! There is a TON of seating-this place is huge! They have a water feature inside too, very cool. & 2 TVs. Service is good - food on the buffet stayed fresh and people walk around to replenish drinks. Dinner will run you about $22 a person, so eat up!
Relatively decent for a large dining capacity buffet. So great for large parties that want to sit together. Weekends are probably better selections but prices more than weekday dinners. I do like the roast duck option but one other time I went it was on the dry side. Also have Mongolian stir fry where you select your veggies and protein for them to cook. Weekday dinners and lunch probably more like 3 stars. Plenty of parking and located at strip mall.
Wow! The inside is absolutely beautiful. Very spacious, great for big groups. Love the koi pond as well. We went on a Thursday night, so the buffet was $20/person. They had a wide variety of foods. Crawfish, mussels, shrimp, sushi, salad bar, make your own station, French fries, soups, fried rice, chicken dishes, dessert bar. We tried quite a few things. The craw fish were just ok, very fishy tasting. The make your own station is good, but with they had some finishing sauces like teriyaki. It was quite dry, but tasted good. The sushi was my favorite part. They had quite a few rolls to choose from. Dessert was standard, fruit, a few pastries, ice cream. Not very good, but I don't go to a buffet for dessert. Service was good, attentive on bringing refills for drinks. A drink is included in the price. I do wish they had crab legs but no one seems to know when those come. I'll definitely be back! One of the best in the metro right now.
When you walk in, the size of the place is impressive. Almost every seat was taken, which is rare for most Chinese buffets post-pandemic. The food selection is typical, but the Mongolian grill uses sauces with an excessive amount of MSG. My tongue was sensitive for quite a while after eating it. Yes, it's a Chinese buffet, and MSG is common, but this was over the top. If you're in the mood for a good buffet, this is the spot.

Not often any buffet receives a full 5 stars. However, I think this place is well deserved as they have a huge assortment of everything and anything you'd expect from a Chinese buffet and more. The staff is always rotating and refreshing the food. Pretty decent assortment of sushi and seafood as well as always being clean! The price is up there (around $20/person) however much worse buffets charge $17... so this is actually a pretty decent deal all things considered. read more
Great spot for AYCE americanized asian food. Located in a strip mall, there is plenty of free parking available in a lot. You pay when you first arrive with cash or card (they only take visa and mastercard). Note that if you pay with a card and add a tip, they will just give you cash from the register for the tip amount to leave at your table when you leave. I would bring cash to tip your server with at your table. After paying, you can seat yourself anywhere and a server will come by and take your beverage order. The buffet includes unlimited soft drinks, drip coffee, and hot tea. Their Dr. Pepper is extra syrupy compared to normal fountain drinks, would recommend! Throughout the meal, the server will clear your empty plates and at the end of the meal they will drop off fortune cookies and towelettes. Crab days are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. During these days they serve lil crabs. There is also a build your own noodle station where you can choose your mix-ins and sauces, and they'll fry it up for you. The fried rice is solid and the garlic toast is shockingly really good. Food is pretty fresh and warm, and there are people constantly refilling trays and cleaning the buffet. read more

Good spot for a lunch buffet! Food was warm, drinks were carbonated and yummy! The best part is the hibachi bar! Plate all your topping and they fry it on the grill for you! Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean! read more

Overall solid buffet. This place gets packed so be ready to wait in line but it moves pretty quick. From the very end to the front it may take 20 min or so. Great selection of asian inspired dishes mixed with some American influences and mongolian bbq in the corner. Service is quick and efficient. Their crawfish are the biggest hit in the place. You will see pounds of it leaving the buffet on people's plates. I am not a crawfish fan but apparently these are some of the best. I would say their fruit choices are lacking ( canned) and the salad bar is a little vanilla (minimal options for toppings) The focus here is on the main courses. Def avoid the Mac N Cheese it's quite bad. Aside from that it's worth a visit! read more

This is what I expect when coming to a Chinese buffet. The restaurant has a nice Chinese accented decor it is large and spacious. The staff is friendly and attentive. The choices are plentiful and refilled immediately so they are always available. They have made a good impression for my first visit. I will be back again. read more
This place was so busy on a Saturday night! We arrived around 6pm with a huge group (50+ppl) and the line went by pretty quickly, we waited around 15 mins to get seated. We were unable to sit next to each other but that was fine. There's a decent variety of food, like shrimp, mussels, crawfish, sushi and they even have a make your own hibachi station. The food was getting replenished pretty frequently and was fresh so I appreciated that. However, nothing stood out to me as delicious. Everything tasted mediocre, the dessert and fruit options were lacking as well. Service was quick, they refilled our drinks often and the tables were clean. The price was good for a weekend price per adult it was $21.99. I likely wouldn't want to come back again but it was good to try. read more

It's kinda weird... you say you don't like it, but your always here. That sums up this place. It's decent food, decent prices are on the average. Is there better out there? Sure... is there worse... sure. So why 4 stars? Cause, regardless of how mediocre there food is - the value and convenience shine through. There aren't to many places where you can get a decent meal for your family these days so a place like this definitely has its value. read more

The vast selection of dishes was outstanding. Sushi bar was great with a unique offering of sashimi. The crawfish was a highlight, they were enormous, almost the size of my palm and they were flavorful. The service was great. Drinks were refilled constantly. We will definitely come back for sure! read more

I must say I'm not a big fan of buffets but Dragon Star Buffet is now my favorite buffet! From the large venue and beautiful waterfall/pond. Our server always made sure we had a full drink! And the food was great I do recommend going to their hibachi like station very delicious. And their general tao chicken is my favorite, also having a nice selection of sushi. Don't forget to leave room for their desert some ice cream goes well! Will be coming back for sure. read more
I love bringing my family here. Good buffet for the right price. They have such great service and lots of sitting space. Even on days that it's really packed, there is always room, the place is HUGE. ok, one bad thing though, I went when it was really jam packed and the food never ran out but I think they were cooking it too fast and over cooking things. Anyway, catch them on a normal day and u have some good buffet food. I'll still go back. read more
