Yesterday, while in Shakopee, Mn on errands I was craving Chinese food. Searched the web. Oh my gosh! Since 1986 the Dragon Cafe has been offering their customers the amazing Cantonese and Szechuan menu. I had the sweet/sour chicken/ fried rice and egg foo young. By far, the most delicious Chinese food I've had since the Nankin closed years ago. Vast menu to choose from. Polite/friendly staff. Very decent prices. My food was very nicely served. 952-445-9615. The cafe became very busy around noon ! Customers/phone calls for takeout. The facility was very clean with not a lot of clutter. Fast service. 576 Marschall Road, Shakopee, Mn. Solid spot for dinner! The food is always piping hot and fresh when I pick it up. Our takeout orders are always packaged well. The guy at the counter is friendly and answered my questions about the menu. Overall, a good place to support local and have a good meal. The value for the price is absolutely worth it, I always have at least two meals from one combination plate. And the hot and sour soup is great for kicking a cold or a nice comfort meal. Inside the restaurant is very homey, lots of tables to eat at and seems like a place you could have conversation over dinner (not too loud and no loud music). read more

We had the chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice and chicken lomein, all of which were very good. We also had the general sous chicken and I don't think I would order that again as some of the pieces were just very dry. I didn't have any expectations based on the very mixed reviews for this place. Based on my food I don't understand how there are bad reviews! I thought all my food was some of the best Chinese food I have had. The fried rice was the stand-out for me. Compatible to LeeAnn Chin fried rice in my opinion. It had wonderful flavors which you don't get with a lot of fried rices. The sprouts added a perfect onion crunch to it. There were also some small mushrooms and eggs in it, loved it. That's how fried rice should be. They have really cheap lunch combo specials and you get a fair amount of food for the price. The sesame chicken was also super good! Solid three stars. My server was very attentive and very polite. No complaints there. I ordered the "special combo" that came with garlic chicken, an egg roll, and fried rice. I also ordered a cup of hot and sour soup. The food is very, very Americanized. Expect that going in and you won't be disappointed, but if you want a more authentic experience, you're better off going somewhere else. The fried rice is almost brown due to the large amount of soy sauce used. I was pleased there were no carrots in the rice. A decent amount of egg and a very large portion of rice is served. The entree was decently solid given the environment. Nice cuts of broccoli were present. I ordered it "slightly spicier" than normal. It did not disappoint. Whenever my nose turns into a fire hydrant, I'm happy. The egg roll was a standard edition and certainly not outstanding. But I've had worse as well. Hot and sour soup was a little more hot than sour, but certainly a respectable effort. There was quite a few pork strands and lots of bamboo shoots. No mushrooms if that's your thing (I was happy there weren't any). There's duck sauce available on the table in a large squeeze bottle. Star deductions: 1.5 stars off for a dirty water glass. I've worked in a dishroom before and I know things get missed. It doesn't make it acceptable. Some kind of food particle was on the inside of the glass. The water isn't filtered either, so you get all kinds of Shakopee goodness. .5 star off for not having authentic hot mustard available. All in all, its a decent place to get some takeout if you want to support a local business. Had the dirty water glass not happened, I would have leaned towards a four. read more

Not good. We gave it a good try. Ordered 5 different things. Service was great and the people were very kind. Cream cheese puffs have no flavor and greasy dried out wrappers and no sauce unless u ask. Fried rice was super super oily. Shrimps were good in it. Kung pao was over sauced and slimy. Beef and broccoli was the best option but meat was gritty/questionable. Egg rolls had no flavor and just cabbage. I dont get how many people were in and out for takeout. read more

I'll preface this with the fact that I'm a transplant to minnesota, and have spent my 23 years here constantly searching for good Asian food. I usually just settle for something edible, and have been making dishes myself at home. I read the reviews for this place, and they are both wildly negative and positive. When I see tgat fit Asian places, I'm never sure if it's low/high expectations and pleasant/disappointing, or if it's just what Minnesotans are used to vs transplants. So always a heavy pinch of salt wrt relying on other reviews. So I decided to give this place a try after driving by it for 4 years. Im sorry to say that I'm solidly in the massively disappointed camp. Ordered egg rolls, pot stickers and Kung pao chicken; pretty standard order for me. The prices were higher than their online menu (by about 40%), not a huge surprise given the last couple of years, but the food is so so so not worth the price. The egg rolls and pot stickers were very oily (like they'd been fried at too low a temperature), and really bland- almost tasteless. Even the dumpling sauce was bland - didn't taste any vinegar or onions. The Kung pao chicken had spice to it (which was pleasing, since I'd pretty much given up on any place in minnesota actually believing I wanted it truly spicy), but the sauce had very little flavor (I ended up boosting it with a few dollops of PF Chang's sauce I had in the fridge), the chicken was cut so small it was practically mince, and not much of it (I often make it at home without any chicken at all, so it actually took me half the portion to realize I hadn't actually tasted/felt a bite of chicken) and there were very few peanuts (and I didn't have any at home to beef it up, unfortunately). Otherwise, it did have water chestnuts, bamboo shoots (were really fibrous though, unpleasantly chewy) and a lot of celery, didn't see any spring onions/scallions. I didn't see any peppers, so they might be using chili paste (as they should) or oil (no biggie) and at least it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet like I've also had it before. The weirdest thing though, was the super tiny portion of rice! It was maybe 1 cup - totally not enough to go with the standard-sized 1 quart portion of the Kung pao. Normally, I'll give a place a couple of tries before leaving a review, but I'm just totally not wanting to go back here. Nothing I got was worth trying again. read more

Keep looking if you want Chinese food. Very disappointed. Ordered orange chicken and there was a ton of vegetables in it and barely any chicken. Ordered cream cheese wontons and egg roll and got a teeny micro sweet and sour container for all of that. What the? Why would you think that's sufficient? Come on people. The fried rice was not tasty at all. They wanted to do an up charge to remove the bean sprouts in the fried rice. The customer is always right and you do what the customer wants without trying to rip them off!! You want a thriving business? Run it right!! Also, this restaurant was by far serving the smallest portions of food they can get away with! Normally when I do reviews I try to say something positive and not keep it all negative but I have nothing for this place. This place is pathetic. Chinese restaurants are a hit or miss. If you happen to be traveling to Duluth, Mn, I highly recommend hitting up Golden Inn in Superior. Tried the Dragon Cafe last night for dinner. The wonton soup was very tasty, but the wontons were on the mushy side. The egg flower soup was delicious. Had to try both. We also ordered the shrimp in lobster sauce which was disappointing as it was served with a dark brown sauce rather than the white sauce that we have been accustomed to. The shrimp in lobster sauce was very flavorful, but don't think I will be ordering it again. Service was good, almond cookies were delicious. read more

Look, the Owners are wonderful and so is the wait staff. But that does not make the food phenomenal! We ordered chicken subgum chowmein... it was okay. The hot and sour soup was so thick and tasteless as if out of a tin can. The dumplings were dry and covered with flour!? Gross! Search for good Chinese is finally over. Under my nose the whole time, finally stopped into the Dragon Cafe today for lunch. Wife had the hot and sour soup and two egg rolls, and I had the Shrimp with garlic sauce. Kitchen has clearly perfected mind reading, as the food was on our table as fast as we could tell the waiter what we wanted. Hot and sour was very good, egg rolls clearly made in house, were delicious. Shrimp with garlic sauce was good as well, plenty of shrimp and veggies in a spicy brown sauce. Decor could use an update, classic strip mall Chinese, but you'll ignore it and concentrate on the food. Solid 4 stars for the food, definitely on my favorites list. read more

I'm on vacation from NYC and was on a search for fast Asian food. Homey environment and great service, and the cheese wontons are to die for. Could definitely live off of those and the chicken lo mein. I forgot what it was called but the dish with stir-fried zucchini is really good. i would not eat here again. I rode my bike here with my roommate and we stopped in to give it a shot. When we walked in, it seemed like a hassle for the girl to take our to-go order and never even shut off the movie she was watching on her phone at the front desk/host stand. We ordered, then told her we would be outside with the bikes (2 steps away, directly out the front door) then waited. About 15 minutes later, we were wondering where the heck our food was, so i ran in and checked. She was still there, watching the show on her phone, and never even stepped out to notify us that our food was done and ready. A little irritated, we rode to the park to eat it. In the to-go bag, they did not include any plastic utensils. real useful. now we had to treat it as finger food. I had about 2 bites, the chicken was not very high quality, some chunks of dark meat, inconsistent breading, and slimy, bad tasting sauce. All I have to say is deeeeeelicious! Have had sweet and sour chicken from many many places before and I have to admit, this is the best yet. Never have I had sweet and sour chicken that was so fresh and with such large chunks of white meat! The sauce also compliments it so well as it is perfectly sweetened and sour. Their cheese wontons are delicious too so don't forget to order that as well! Staff here is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is nice and cozy which makes my meal that much more enjoyable when I am in town. Good staff, the serving guy is not the friendliest person on earth but as a server he does a good job. Food is really good. You can buy lunch for around $6.50. The portion is really big for $6.50. I am fan of kung-pao chicken, garlic chicken and almond chicken. Chicken is really cooked tender as it should. I wouldn't say its a best place ever but you will never regret coming here.
