A great hole in the wall Chinese food place - love their cashew chicken! Always fast + warm. The lunch special is great!

Judging an Asian place by its Hot & Sour Soup can be hit or miss, but it worked here. The soup was nicely hot and pleasantly sour with plentiful veg and tofu. I slurped up every drop. The MuShu Chicken was also delicious although it was a little bland. Hoisin sauce rescued it and I ate every bit. The little pancakes were perfect brushed with hoisin and filled with the chicken. Finally, I ordered the Hot or Cold Sesame Noodles COLD, but they arrived hot. It was fine, I have a fridge. The sesame paste was much darker than I'd ever seen, but it was thick and robust and savory. I missed the cilantro and diced cucumber other places serve but I still enjoyed it. Over a decade for this place being my go to Chinese take out spot, and never disappointed. What separates them is consistency in food. Other takeout options in Minneapolis have been hit or miss, but this place spits out quality every time. Portions are also great for the price. No the neatest/cleanest restaurant I have ever walked into, but at least the food is quite good and spicy dishes can be spicy, which is better than a lot of strip mall Chinese restaurants. The online ordering system is almost great. Easy to use, easy to customize, easy to order extra meat or vegie fried rice instead of white (both of which cost more, which is fair). However on check out you get what is becoming the ubiquitous pop ups "you won, click here" things. Boo, although I appreciate trying to earn money. Food was ready very fast on a tuesday. Called it in, five minute drive, and it was ready. Food was very good also. Non greasy, lots of pork in the pork fried rice (did not order the extra meat), good vegie fried rice, and the Hot & Spicy Chicken (White meat chicken deep fried with onion and jalapeno) was very good - the chicken looked to dusted with flour or cornstarch, then deep fried - no thick breading, just meat, with onion and lots of fresh jalapenos - very good. The cheese wontons had two much cream cheese - the balance was just off. Definitely on the list for a return. Just dont look to close at the surroundings. read more

I wouldn't say it's the best food I ever had, but I do really love this place for their general tso 's combo plate, it's delicious. They deliver to some residences as well and the place is cheap. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a filling yet inexpensive Chinese place to dine. The combination platters are very filling and come with an egg roll and rice. The the staff were all working hard and kind. The place is tiny and for the amount of food they put through there daily it was clean. I grew up in South Mpls and went to Washburn High School. After 15 years this place is still a place for me to go to for Chinese fast food. My favorite is House Special Lomain because they use real Asian noodles and not the spaghetti kind which has no flavor. Their sweet and sour chicken is always fresh and crispy. I've been trying to find the best cheap Chinese in the Twin Cities for a while now, so I'm sharing some of my findings and will be reviewing them all! Recently gave Fresh Wok a shot again during Covid. Went with the General Tso's lunch special ($6.25) incredibly hot and spicy. The foot wasn't that spicy at all, but it was evident that the sauce was clearly house made and didn't come right from a bottle. Chicken was lightly breaded (my preference) and pork fried rice was quite standard. The hot and sour soup was very unique, as it was actually a bit sweet and far thicker than most places. It wasn't bad by any means, but lacked the spice that I typically desire in my soup. All in all, it's closer to 3.5 out of 5 (value considered), but they do offer great service and are super quick, which gets the extra half star in my eyes! This has been our go to Chinese takeout place for 20 years. We've always had a great meal delivered to us. When my kids were younger, they would want the sweet-and-sour sauce on top of their white rice. My kids are now older and my most recent orders have come with sweet-and-sour sauce even though I didn't order it which I think makes this place stand out. Even though it's a simple add on, I think for them to think that my previous orders of sweet-and-sour sauce container, not packets makes me really think that this restaurant thinks of their customers. I have been eating here since I lived in the hood 15 years ago and still stop back. The food is fresh, you can see it all cooked, and tasty! Really good prices and menu selection. I like the vegi egg rolls and spring rolls, mock duck with vegetables, lo mein and general tso chicken extra spicy! Call ahead and if they are not busy your food will be cooked fresh and done in 10 min, you can't beat that. read more

A truly wonderful chinese takeout place. Their meals are cheap, their service is fast, and the food hits - what more do you need? We've ordered takeout during covid multiple times and have had no issues. The combination specials are about $8 and include fried rice, an egg roll and a generous portion of food! Their sides are cheap and well portioned as well. I'm a big fan of the General Tsao's chicken special and wonton egg drop soup. Yesterday was my first, and last, visit to (not so) Fresh Wok. The first thing I noticed is that the place is filthy. I asked for my order, and was greeted with complete confusion. One woman screeched out ten minutes, another said we are packing it up now. The screeching woman was on the phone, she wasn't taking orders. She was pacing and screaming nonstop. Another woman in the store was as appalled as I, and we openly discussed how bizarre the situation while the employees completely ignored us. A few minutes later screeching woman tossed a bag on the counter, a soda can fell onto the shelf below, she threw it back in the bag, and walked away screeching into the phone. About two minutes later the other woman walked up and told me it was my order...I didn't even bother asking for a new soda, or a refund. I threw the entire order in the trash. These people are completely nuts, and the place has got to be beneath any health code standards. I WILL NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS DUMP AGAIN! read more

Delicious!! I had the General Tso's chicken and my husband had the beef chow mei fun. Both were great but the chicken was definitely a stand out. The quality white meat was a bonus! The egg rolls and cream cheese wontons were also very good. The portions are good sized for the price point. I'm picky when it comes to Chinese since I think most places taste the same (boring and greasy). I'm glad we found Fresh Wok and I look forward to ordering again! read more

In terms of Chinese take out places in the Twin Cities, this is a pretty typical experience. What I really appreciate is that the staff are friendly at the counter and very quick at getting food out. The interior of the restaurant is quite small with only a few tables. Most of the business (that I'm aware of) consists of take out orders which there are a lot of here. During the busy times, there can be a good amount of traffic going in and out but like I said before, they are fast at fulfilling orders. My family has ordered from here many times and we have been happy with our food. The portion sizes are fairly large which allows for multiple meals to be made out of one order. I have not had experience with receiving delivery but just know that they do provide that service if you are within the area. read more

I was so excited to be back living in their delivery area again. Come to find out, I've been suffering needlessly for the last 15 months not ordering their yummies because I thought they didn't go east of Hiawatha. Apparently they do deliver there, it's just an extra $2. This is not a place to eat in. They have like 3 tables, and usually one of them is being used by the staff for side work because they are just that busy.But you should pick up an order at least once though because you'll get to see what makes this place special. Every ticket is cooked to order, when you order it. Your wontons and lo mein are not sitting in a warmer. Sure they prep popular things and par cook, but every restaurant does that. But, they don't actually prepare your dish until you call or send your online order. Fresh wok isn't just a catchy name, it's legit how they do things. Admittedly, I'm a fan of this kind of chow. I've had it in pretty much everywhere I've ever been - Maine, New York, Boston, Georgia, Kentucky, Arizona, and here. And I agree with so many of the other reviews. This is the best traditional american style chinese food in the Twin Cities, and the best I've ever had really anywhere ever (except the crab rangoons/wontons are better in Maine because duh, fresh crab). I call THEM an HOUR after they're supposed to be here, and the woman that answers the phone lies, telling me she tried to call 10 times. I filed a complaint with the BBB, and had the transaction voided with my bank. The food might be good, but it isn't worth getting stolen from. It's very good takeout Chinese food. Nothing too fancy, customer service doesn't often come with a smile, but the taste of the dishes make up for it. There are a couple of chairs to sit while you wait, but it's strictly set up for takeout. read more

Good Choice! It's what some people call, "Americanized Chinese Food", but who care's, it's damn good. The portions are huge and the food is better than Leeann Chin, plus they have on line ordering with delivery! we had Sesame Seed Chicken, Chefs Special I think with Chicken, Shrimp and Scallops, Egg Drop Soup and Steamed Dumplings which is literally 2-3 meals per person. The Dumplings are kind of unique, I would explain the stuffing as a Chorizo or something. Altogether an awesome choice for what you're getting and it's quick and easy! read more

I have returned several times to this restaurant since my first review and I have to say that I'm honestly unimpressed. It is typical American Chinese (which unlike) but it has -of late- done absolutely nothing new nor interesting. It's also not the cleanest of places. What's more is that the only table in the place is often taken up by the staff eating food that IS NOT on the menu(but looks delicious) or boxes of supplies. Ugh... no thanks.
